From the majority of the comments posted on this site, it's easy to see that America is in deep trouble. Not one of the Democratic candidates had anything to say about returning this country to the Constitutional Republic that it is supposed to be. America is NOT supposed to be a Democracy, even though most "voters" have been brainwashed into believing that it is.
Sadly, I believe that Americans, in general, are going to get the "government" we deserve.

Rob, Raleigh, NC   June 6th, 2007 8:15 am ET

Ron Paul won!

Tom   June 6th, 2007 8:08 am ET

Ron Paul clearly won the debate...AGAIN!The Mainstream media is in denial..... all they want to talk about is Rudy Mc Romney while at the same time failing to admit that the so called 2nd tier candidate namely, Ron Paul is the most searched for candidate in Google and Youtube BARNONE... This is a fact!!and  here is the proof...Conservative Americans want a true conservative republican on their ballot... And Ron Paul fits this description to the T...<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NuXCxCVD6iI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NuXCxCVD6iI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

RON PAUL WON THE DEBATE BY FAR.

Michael Ciulla   June 6th, 2007 7:14 am ET

Ron Paul is the only logical, intelligent choice. He is the sole candidate speaking the truth and offering us the only workable solutions to our problems. We will all be far better off with Ron Paul as President.

Michael Albert, Bradenton, FL   June 6th, 2007 6:54 am ET

Honestly the only guy up there who will not be out to continue to screw the American people and this is especially true when it comes to the ILLEGAL Federal Income Tax. Ron Paul would do all he could to stop the madness. Stop letting the Banker's run the country and the world, We The People need to take the power back.

John Conway   June 6th, 2007 6:30 am ET

Ron was as good as ever. What I took from this debate is how the media is actually against the people and our liberty along with the established political system. I have never seen such blatant bias.
If Ron has done nothing else, he has exposed the system to all who can see. The other candidates looked looked cardboard cut out marionetts.
Our government is afraid of Ron, and it is obvious. They're rolling out Fred Thompson hoping he will challenge Ron.

Buddy-Rey Stallings, North Carolina   June 6th, 2007 4:28 am ET

Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich were the very essence of character and integrity. I wouldn't trust any of the others to housesit my cat.

Michael Tucson Arizona   June 6th, 2007 4:24 am ET

Ron Paul! You're own poll shows that!
Does your disclaimer give you credo not to post Ron Paul supporters comments?
Good day.

Dominic Réamonn, La Plaine, GE   June 6th, 2007 3:19 am ET

Ron Paul. He actually seems to know something.
People seem to go for tag lines and demagoguery, but come on—we're not voting for our favourite TV show here.

johnson, dallas texas   June 6th, 2007 2:38 am ET

What the? Why is the Republican debate ticker showing us the democratic debate results????????????

Anways

Ron Paul had very sound policies!!

Ron Paul 2008

woohoo!!!

Michael Launitz, Carmichael, CA   June 6th, 2007 2:16 am ET

Ron Paul won hands down.

Kevin D Hansen salem oregon   June 6th, 2007 2:07 am ET

Kucinich is the only one for peace..all the others are war mungors and liers...they all want a national ID card and are for the north American union..and if you dont know anything about those two issue's then you need not make a comment on anything!...you are lost and un-informed!

Douglass, Indianapolis, IN   June 6th, 2007 2:03 am ET

Dennis Kucinich by a long shot. The media will never give him the credit, because he is too hard on in the insurance companies and other corporations. This man prioritizes people over corporations on EVERY issue. He is consistent on important issues like opposing the war. When American lives are on the line, he fights without compromise. When no one else will speak up, he writes the legislation so that it is forced into debate. Hillary and Obama have shown – and it was pointed out in the debate – that they are followers. But Dennis Kucinich is a leader.

Anonymous   June 6th, 2007 1:53 am ET

Mark Buraglio, Champaign, IL   June 6th, 2007 1:40 am ET

DENNIS KUCINICH!! When are you gonna start talking about his "NO" votes on the war?? He votes no EVERYTIME and nobody says a thing. But your beloved hillary and obama vote no one time and that's all u can talk about! EQUAL COVERAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monroe Jeffrey   June 6th, 2007 1:25 am ET

Well, Congressman Ron Paul does it again!!

Unfortunately he suggests that the U.S. entered the Iraq conflict subsequent to a mandate of enforcing a UN resolution, which is not quiet accurate. Nor does he acknowledge the 'NUCLEAR' Holocaust aspects of the conflict.
But, overall. he was more right-on than any of the other candidates!

Tommy.Luciferi   June 6th, 2007 1:25 am ET

Hillary Clinton already is 'chosen' to be the next president for 2009......so why even have a debate?

james salem, nh   June 6th, 2007 12:41 am ET

Ron Paul the only one that speaks from the heart. peace

Mark Owens, Spring Lake, MI   June 6th, 2007 12:40 am ET

Mike Gravel spoke the truth.

Nick Honolulu Hawaii   June 6th, 2007 12:40 am ET

I like Ron Paul and OBAMA

I go with OBAMA

Tom L., Tampa, Florida   June 6th, 2007 12:27 am ET

RON PAUL is the Winner Hands Down!

He is a True – Real – American who stands for the People, by the People, and for and by the Constitution the way it was written by our Founding Fathers according to the Law of the Land.

He wants to do away with the Federal Reserve which is no more Federal then Federal Express. He also wants to do away with the Central Banking System which is run "NOT the US Government" but the Wealthy Elite of the World. It's Big Business who runs this country with "Their Money"... NOT OUR MONEY or the US Government's Money and it's our Taxes that pays down their debt for printing these fiat dollars.

He wants to bring back the Gold and Silver Standard since our money is not back by anything... not gold nor silver. It's just paper backed by nothing! Paper IOU's!!

He wants to abolish the IRS which is a total scam. Where are the laws or codes that prove that we American's should pay tax for our employment?

He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.

He voted against regulating the Internet.

He voted against the Iraq war.

He is for the People by the People.

VOTE FOR DR RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT!

Jamie, Fort Sill OK   June 5th, 2007 6:56 pm ET

Clinton won my vote she was on top of all the issues!

Donnie, Zanesville, Ohio   June 5th, 2007 5:56 pm ET

John Edwards.

He showed that he has the right basic idea, it's about leadership! He has the knowledge of how things work in the political process from the inside, as well as the perspective and vision of an outsider. It truly takes both of these to be able to do what is right by the American people.

Adis   June 5th, 2007 5:36 pm ET

I think Joe Biden won the debate clearly, he is the only character who really backs up everything he says. He has the experience. All other puppets showed they have pockets of intelegence. Sadly Biden does not have the money to win and lets not forget our american credo "those who have money have the power". I am glad that he showed anger because the issues are really close to him and so is his frustration.

amerikan4truth   June 5th, 2007 5:14 pm ET

It does not matter who won the debate last night or tonight. Hillary is going to win. She has the money, the democratic vote, the anti-war vote, the female vote, the black vote, and it has already been predetermined by the powers that be! You people actually think that the Diebold voting machines actually count your vote? They have'nt for the last two elections, so why would they this coming year? Reagan/Bush, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton is how it's going to go down. Wake up, we live under two crime families that have divided us by working together...shut up, go home, and enjoy your freedom! The war will not end, they are building 14 permanent bases and the worlds largest embassy in Iraq. Look it up before our empire falls...

truth out...

william m. shaw, fairbanks,in   June 5th, 2007 4:42 pm ET

I would like to know why everyone of the democrats could not answer the questions the first time without beating around the bush before acually answering the question if they ever did. Like Richardson and genocide: He never did answer the question. This is the best the dems can offer? Hail to Obamma for being the only one that sounded Presidential and intelligent and I am a republican.

Ben Demeter, Monument, CO   June 5th, 2007 4:23 pm ET

Kucinich obviously realizes the average family faces bankruptcy if health Insurance remains in the hands of the Insurance Industry

Kate NYC, NY   June 5th, 2007 3:40 pm ET

Edwards was weak. I can't understand why people continue to support him ($400 haircuts that could have been done at Cost Cutters in 15 minutes for $10.00!!!) He seems out of touch and seemed to have a problem directly answering questions.

Hilary-I like her. I do. But she needs to work on her public speaking manner. She can appear mean spirited at times. It's a shame that in 2007, people are actually intimidated by an accomplished, ambitious woman.

Richardson-good answers at times. Good points at times. Concise answers-not once.

Kucinich-poor little guy. But he keeps popping up year after year. He answered well, but I don't think he has a chance.

Gravel-eh. I wasn't moved.

OBAMA-Excellent public speaker. Has the ability to understand the people's wants and needs. I think with the right administration, he can improve the world's view of the United States and motivate younger generations in our country to concern themselves with politics. I think he proved himself to be the most "in touch" with the public.

Blitzer was awful. And the questions were terrible. They allowed for too much "drivel" time with some of the candidates. When it came time for the people to ask their questions, it was clear who this election belongs to. We're taking back our country and forcing our government to work for us.

OBAMA!!!!

Gretta Collins, Houston TX   June 5th, 2007 3:35 pm ET

I keep on plugging for Biden. Wish he had more time and money. Hillary was great, though. All made me proud and hopeful as a dem.

Brian, Columbus, Ohio   June 5th, 2007 2:35 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich framed the first debate and easily won. Barack Obama came back from an off night last time and won this one.

Edward, Dallas, TX   June 5th, 2007 1:53 pm ET

Joe Biden (even though I am officially a Barack Obama supporter). I felt Joe Biden was clear, concise, articulate, and aggressive. He flexed his knowledge from the years of experience he has in the Senate.

Jim Cook   June 5th, 2007 1:29 pm ET

The Rebublicans!

Michael Connors, New York, NY   June 5th, 2007 1:26 pm ET

Not sure, but I think Edwards benefited the most.

Chris, Lake Elmo, Minnesota   June 5th, 2007 1:24 pm ET

Obama won. He explained his position on the issues well. Biden, Clinton, Dodd, and Edwards must have just received their degrees from the George Dubya School of Spin. They are "sorry" for voting for the war but they are against it...now. Why would you ask someone that got us into this mess (the war) to try to get us out of it?

Sandy, Minneapolis, MN   June 5th, 2007 12:44 pm ET

Joe Biden! How refreshing to hear someone so well informed, who is both passionate and pragmatic. Biden-Obama '08!

Ace, Laguna Niguel California   June 5th, 2007 12:29 pm ET

Enough!

I know the media has a love-fest with Clinton and Obama but enough is enough. Watch the debate and you'll see that Edwards won, he came out attacking and his answers were not full of rhetoric but ...UM...ANSWERED THE QUESTION!

The only other perosn that can be said to have won the debate would be Joe Biden even though I don't like the guy, he also owned every answer. Obama...Clinton GIVE ME A BREAK!

Robert Laczak, Greene, New York   June 5th, 2007 12:00 pm ET

Who would I hire to lead my country out of the dung pile created by this current administration and restore our place as the leader in the free world? Who will address national health care reform and the host of other domestic issues facing us? Who has the experience to get the job done? Clinton stands alone.

SARA TACOMA,WA   June 5th, 2007 11:52 am ET

I THINK OBAMA WON THE DEBATE. HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO LOOKED AND ACTED PRESIDENTIALLY. I THOUGHT CLINTON SEEMED AMUSED AND DISINTERESTED. I WAS GREATLY DISAPPOINTED WITH HER PERFORMANCE.

Dale Gross Melbourne, Fl   June 5th, 2007 11:41 am ET

Dennis Kucinich and Mr. Gravel. Hands down

Remi, Lagos Nigeria   June 5th, 2007 11:36 am ET

Hilary won. She was actually very presidential and left no body in doubt of who was in charge

William Stokes   June 5th, 2007 11:28 am ET

Don't know who won, but viewers lost.
You can't compare candidates unless each one of them answers each question.
I didn't like the format.

Reuben, Charlottesville, VA   June 5th, 2007 10:35 am ET

John Edwards

Roland, Austria   June 5th, 2007 10:19 am ET

Obama and Clinton both did a good job.

One of them will be elected President next year in a tough race against either Fred Thompson or Rudy Giuliani.

All others don´t have enough appeal.

Barack Obama Won The Debate Hands Down

Baltimore, MD   June 5th, 2007 6:52 am ET

I don't know which debate you watched but Hillary played it so down the center, til it was a joke, the only 2 guys who took a chance was OBAMA and BIDEN, the dude from Ohio is a nut...John Edwards got OWNED..period..Chris Dodd well nice try Hillary is a joke she was so calculating till it was a joke, Obama talked straight talked honest and defended what he needed, and they all came gunning and he shot em back..next president of the United States

Florida   June 5th, 2007 6:29 am ET

Hillary Clinton won "big"!!

Jennifer, Providence, RI   June 5th, 2007 4:06 am ET

Hillary nabbed it for me.
I understand that Edwards needed to go on the attack to raise his poll numbers, but Hillary was able to diffuse the situation so well that he came off looking defensive. I was very impressed.
Kudos to all on that stage.

David, Northridge, CA   June 5th, 2007 4:05 am ET

RICHARDSON easily. Only one who talked non-politico speak and had specific answers for problems. I agree that the format was clearly rigged Edwards, Clinton, and Obama (regarding the seating and mic time given). He deserved more from Blitzer as did some of the other candidates. The only thing I did not agree with him on is the boycotting the Olympics. There's no room for politics in the Olympics. It was a failed policy by Carter in 1980 and it would fail again. I'm still for him. Liked Richardson on the talk shows before I even knew who he was. He speaks straight and is by far the most broadly experienced man on the stage and deserves the chair in the oval office... much more than any of the other candidates.

Anthony, Los Angeles CA   June 5th, 2007 3:57 am ET

The 3 front runners DID NOT win the debate, in fact it was Richardson, Biden, and Kucinich who stole the show. They are the only ones with nothing to lose and everything to gain. It's unfortunate these debates won't leave a dent on the outcomes of the election, but they are interesting nonetheless. I have to say I was most impressed with Richardson. Biden was effective at first, but he came across as way too emotional and out of control.

Anonymous   June 5th, 2007 2:09 am ET

john edwards won!!

Lee, Palo Alto CA   June 5th, 2007 2:07 am ET

Mike Gravel won hands down. Dennis Kucinich came in second and would make a great vice president.

Thank you for allowing these men to speak. Gravel and Kucinich should get the most time to speak instead of the least because the other candidates have nothing to offer but worn political posturing.

Anonymous   June 5th, 2007 1:34 am ET

Bradley Davis, Morristown,TN   June 5th, 2007 12:51 am ET

Barack Obama 4 Sure!!!

Jeff Steege   June 5th, 2007 12:34 am ET

Kucinich- For the same reason others have pointed out. He is the only candidate who does not endorse the killing of innocent civilians to fulfill the futile revenge fantasy of 9/11. He also understands that healthcare will never be affordable until we take the profits out of the healthcare system and make it a public endeavor like police and fire services.

Jonathan Cedarville, OH   June 5th, 2007 12:18 am ET

I would have to say Kucinich hands down. Clinton, Obama and Edwards just put on a PR show. I am a staunch conservative but Kucinich really impressed me. He was very straight forward and honest. I really think the democrats are lacking identity in these debates. Besides Kucinich, no one really stands out and separates themselves from the rest of the field.

Korey Kaczynski, Omaha, NE   June 4th, 2007 11:48 pm ET

Ariane, I am a Ron Paul supporter. He's the only republican candidate against the Iraq War, and was against it from the onset.

Dan Yates, Utica NY   June 4th, 2007 11:11 pm ET

John Edwards clearly and intelligently answered his questions in an honest and sincere manner. He was assertive and the most presidential one in the debate. He was better informed and the most well spoken debater present. I'll vote for him anytime.

Pat Sellers Glenmoore, pa.   June 4th, 2007 9:06 pm ET

Gravel

Craig   June 4th, 2007 8:48 pm ET

Hillary Clinton. She is clearly presidential material, everyone was looking to her to lead discussion, and she proved she has what it takes. I was all for Obama until this debate – I am unimpressed with his performance. However, John Edwards will never get my vote. He was a mess.

Susan, New York   June 4th, 2007 8:47 pm ET

John Edwards

JR Santiago, Bronx, NY   June 4th, 2007 8:43 pm ET

Kucinich is the only candidate who shows vision and reason. As President, he will surround himself with doers for peace and the general welfare of all US citizens. He will eradicate the empire and return to the democratic spirit of the 60's that made this nation a world leader. He has been right on the war since day one and he is right today. The right choice.

Brendan, Allentown, New Jersey   June 4th, 2007 8:40 pm ET

Kucinich, Edwards, and Gravel. Yay for the far left!

Mark   June 4th, 2007 8:17 pm ET

Great job Wolf! Kucinich won. As Jeremy from San Jose said, the only one who wouldn't murder innocents to get Bin Laden. It was amusing to see the "frontrunners" falling all over themselves to play tough guy. It's easy to be brave if you're an armchair warrior risking other people's lives.

Belinda, Belvidere, IL   June 4th, 2007 8:04 pm ET

Gravel without a doubt. Gotta love his passion and honesty!

Jeremy Canton IL   June 4th, 2007 7:46 pm ET

Could someone cue the Circus Music...........Fred Thompson won this week.

Diane Sampson, Bridgewater, NJ   June 4th, 2007 7:40 pm ET

Barack Obama won the debate.

Obama demonstrated he has the qualities of a true uniter.

I was also impressed with Joe Biden and his handle on foreign affairs.

Hillary Clinton continued to attempt to wiggle her way out of her huge error of judgement when she voted to invade Iraq, meanwhile she never read the necessary supplement materials.

Sam, Ann Arbor, MI   June 4th, 2007 7:30 pm ET

Mike Gravel. Really.

Nancy Wehrell Winter Park Florida   June 4th, 2007 6:42 pm ET

Any one of them (besides Gravel)could be a vast improvement over the mess we have in the White House. More and more I feel that Hillary is probably the most qualifed to clean up the disasters the current administration has created.

I wish Bill Richardson would stop answering questions like he his reading his resume.

S. Smith, Louisville Kentucky   June 4th, 2007 6:20 pm ET

John Edwards gave the most honest answers of all the candidates. He actually debated the issues where everyone else just wanted to pat eachother and make nice. Hilary kept saying the differences between then were small, but if they don't have any differences than what does it matter who gets the nomination.

Edwards was the winner hands down, with Biden a close second.

Miriam   June 4th, 2007 6:13 pm ET

Joe Biden. Senator Biden showed is incredible knowledge of the issues and put forth actual ideas and plans to resolve the problems. He has worked hard on legislation, spoken up and made his positions clear, and has shown his leadership skills over and over again while in the Senate. I don't think we could ask for better than Senator Biden.

David Springfirld, Massachusetts   June 4th, 2007 5:59 pm ET

Hillary Clinton won and I hope she chooses Bill Richardson as a running mate.

Seth, Bedford, NH   June 4th, 2007 5:58 pm ET

Senator Joseph Biden came across as determined, confidant, and most importantly, dead honest. His comments, while aggresive, were realistic and true, not sugar-coated like the other candidates.

marie, richmond, va   June 4th, 2007 5:57 pm ET

barack Obama won. Edwards totally turned me off. How can you possibly insult the one person on panel who spoke out on this war. Obama spoke out and explain exactly what would go wrong and he was right. edward is such a fraud, fake and full it. whenever he speak out on an issue its where most of america stands it turns my stomach. when Obama spoke out against this war it was not the popular idea. It was pretty scary during that time. Obama also explain we have to be careful getting out unlike the way we went in carelessly. Obama is very thoughtful and precise in his decisions. We don't need a poll chaser like Edwards. to think in the very begining I was thinking of voting for him.

Kim Morrison Homosassa Florida   June 4th, 2007 5:40 pm ET

I think it is a toss up betwen Biden, and Kucinich. Kucinich was cooler and his answers appeared slightly more reasoned out than the others. I felt Biden responded the same way, but he leaves a impact better. Clinton has been taking debate lessons from her husband because she was smooth. Obama needs to find away to answer a question without going "Aa.." first, and John Edwards needs to find some new phrases because he has wore a few out, and "moral authority" is a head of the list. Dodd also did very well. It is a shame they didn't let him speak more. CNN should drop those hypothetical questions because seeking an answer to a situation, or issue that has yet to arise is utterly stupid. Clinton was the smart one for calling you on them.

Miha,Ohio,Cleveland   June 4th, 2007 5:15 pm ET

Obama

Scott, Corvallis Oregon   June 4th, 2007 4:58 pm ET

John Edwards won the debate based on showing termendous leadership skills. Obama and Clinton talked about how they joined other in voting this way or that; Edwards talked about what he can do and what he will do as President. Leaders take responsibility. Obama says Edwards is 4 years late? Where was Obama 4 years ago? How can he say ANYTHING about anyone who did or did not vote for the war? It's easy to sit here and sya I would have voted for it, but if I were there with the lies the administration was putting in front of them, I am not sure how I would have voted honestly.

Nick, The Woodlands, TX   June 4th, 2007 4:47 pm ET

I'm surprised by how few people give Edwards credit for his performance. If you want to talk about winning the debate in terms of who can expect the biggest poll bump, it's Edwards, hands down. If they were all on a level playing field, an argument could be made that Kucinich and Biden had won the debate, but no one will take the two of them seriously. Edwards did what he needed to do, and in a creative and forceful way.
It's a shame that Obama has proven somewhat inept as a debater as he is such a great public speaker. The energy just seems to disappear when he's on stage with his opponents. Hillary came off as somewhat snotty, bearing her equivalent of the unfortunate GWB smirk. Richardson never comes off well in public, always appearing very self-centered.
Thanks to Edwards cutting down Clinton and Obama, Al Gore didn't do too badly last night either.

Suzanne, Stafford, VA   June 4th, 2007 4:35 pm ET

Senator Hillary Clinton was, by far, the most presidential of the group. I would say that Edwards finished a strong second behind her and that the rest of the candidates were a disappointment.

karen brooklyn, ny   June 4th, 2007 4:34 pm ET

hillary clinton. she never stopped amazing me. She can carry herself well, gives her speech well...and although she may be silent at times she is doing what a woman does best, and that is to be a listener. America needs to be heard. And so does all the third world countries around the globe. we all want to be heard. I believe she has the best presidential experience (frm former Clinton) and will also have the most biggest potential to clean up bush's dirt once again.

Steve Milt, Plymouth, Massachusetts 02360   June 4th, 2007 4:32 pm ET

I don't know who won the debate but in my book Hillary Clinton goes to the bottom of the list. As an independent voter, I feel that running Hillary Clinton as the Democratic candidate is a good way to insure another four years of a Republican White House.

Cara, San Diego, California   June 4th, 2007 4:28 pm ET

Hillary won the debate and is spectacular!

John Edwards is unbelievable as to what he would do in the first hundred days: Travel the world to restore our name–we have and always will have a good name. Is he looking to be an ambassador? To just take off like that in the first 100 days when the U.S. needs a president to manage this country, is like George Bush's vacations. Nobody picked up on this point!

Ramona, Cottage Grove, MN   June 4th, 2007 4:11 pm ET

Hillary Clinton. She presented herself as someone completely in charge...as a commande-in-chief should.

Anne Jacobson, Richmond, CA   June 4th, 2007 4:07 pm ET

Biden stood out as the most forthcoming, reasoned, practical, and knowledgeable candidate.

Dabo Dikibo, Stafford, Texas   June 4th, 2007 4:05 pm ET

Biden – I was glad to see that this candidate stands for immediate US action in stopping the genocide in Darfur.

Andy Sylvia, Merrimack, NH   June 4th, 2007 3:09 pm ET

You can't win a Presidential Debate as they currently are, you can only not lose them.

Nobody lost anything last night, as expected.

Ed, New York, NY   June 4th, 2007 3:05 pm ET

First of all I would have preferred a more equal distribution of time to the candidates. It was unfair to the likes of Biden and Richardson which I had wished that I could learn more about them.

That being said, between the "big 3" I liked Clinton's performance the best. She was steady, very calm, informed, forceful and held her ground. I did not think she provided too many exciting sound bites, but solid work by the Senator. Some of the posters above also pointed out an extremely important fact: that she's the only female in the crowd yet she's the front runner. That's quite extraordinary!

Edwards tried to impress but he tried too hard. He deserves to be second because he seemed more confident on the issues but tried to hard to differentiate himself from the flock. I do not think he scored any extra points by doing so.

Obama, I thought was not very good. He stuttered a lot with his answers, and his comments all seem to lack "depth," reinforcing the notion that he lacked experience.

Of the second tier group. I thought Richardson did very well. He showed poise, knowledge and experience. Biden showed strength, but I found him too "angry." Brings back memories of Howard Dean circa 2004.

Dodd wasn't memorable, Kucinich was too much of a liberal renegade, and the gentleman from Alaska (what's his name again?) seemed obsolete and detached.

I would love to see a Clinton-Richardson ticket. First female – first Latino/minority ticket. This would be a glorious day for America.

Sen. Clinton won hands down...
“You don’t have to be straight to shoot straight!!”

Ray, Ft. Worth, Texas   June 4th, 2007 2:38 pm ET

Biden – well informed, feisty, gave great expainations about why things aren't working and has practical solutions for todays problems – clearly the winner.
Edwards lost big in my book. Its hard to take someone serious who spouts how much he wants to help the poor and under privildged while at the same time pays $400 for a hair cut. I pay $13.95, maybe he should try that and give the other $386.05 to charity! I had high hopes for him, even in 2004, but have completely lost faith.

The biggest question should have spanned more time-TERRORISM AROUND THE WORLD???

So little time and concern was spent on this topic!!!!!!

tom, yeehaw texas   June 4th, 2007 2:23 pm ET

Kucinich and Gravel.

They are the only two that assumed their audience was intelligent instead of the reverse.

We'll see how correct they were soon enough.

Slim Thug, Houston, TX   June 4th, 2007 2:12 pm ET

if the dems are smart, they will put Clinton-Edwards on the ticket for this election, and groom Obama for the next ticket (in 8 years, hopefully).

M. J. Marsalek Bel Air, Maryland   June 4th, 2007 2:07 pm ET

Only former Senator Mike Gravel was willing to say that English should be the official language of the U.S. All other contenders including the front-runners refused to say so. On this basis alone, none are qualified to be president.

Jennifer, St. Petersburg, FL   June 4th, 2007 1:44 pm ET

Hillary and Joe Biden came across as the most knowledgeable, and frankly, the most realistic candidates on the floor. Obama was a real disappointment. I think he tried to redirect the debate too much and went off topic often. He never answered half the questions. I agree that Edwards did himself in.

Hillary won the debate, though not hands down. Biden and Dodd both came across very well to me. They would make great VP candidates in my opinion.

Hillary Clinton

Gil Guerra, Houston, Texas   June 4th, 2007 1:20 pm ET

I think Senator Clinton really helped herself. She was very commanding and took charge as to what questions would and would not be asked. ("We are not going to answer hypotheticals") She seemed like a leader. I believe she clearly won and I am a Richardson supporter!

I think Edwards and Obama clearly lost some points. (Wasn't Edwards a little negative, and didn't he run on the total opposite platform in 04'???) Richardson did ok as did Biden.

Donald, Viera, Florida   June 4th, 2007 1:20 pm ET

John Edwards did exactly what was expected of him: he successfully drew the lines of distinction between him and the others, especially the other two in the top tier. Obama made no attempt at this and Clinton didn't need to.

Linda P., Valparaiso, Indiana   June 4th, 2007 1:16 pm ET

Hillary Clinton. I think the rest of them are auditioning for VP.

Scott, Bogota, NJ   June 4th, 2007 1:11 pm ET

Second Place – John Edwards
Third Place – Barak Obama

Sean, Portland, Oregon   June 4th, 2007 1:09 pm ET

Mike Gravel Followed By Kucinich – even thought CNN literally marginalized them at the edges and only gave them each around 2 minutes to speak, while Clinton And Obama each had around 9 minutes each to say nothing new. Shameful CNN. Seriously.

Benjamin Truax, Schenectady NY   June 4th, 2007 1:00 pm ET

I believe Kucinich one the debate last night. Even though he was given considerably less questions to answer and time to respond. He wants us out of NAFTA which is taking big business out of this country and bring illagel workers in in droves. He also wants us out of the war and was the only candidate to speak the truth about us being able to get out of the war right now just by not passing a funding bill. Obama and Hillary are really clones of each other, there really is no difference.

Now for some critiques on the debate last night. While Obama, Clinton and Edwards spoke for more than 16 min a piece the other candidates spoke for an average of only 9 minutes a piece. Then there was the problem of how the candidates were positioned on stage. Clinton and Obama were center stage while Kucinich was shown far left and Mike was far right. Do you think CNN is playing favorites! To there defense I suppose they aren't the only ones FOX has there prefered candidates who get more free face time than other GOP candidates. The polotics of media sickens me! I hope CNN does a far better job with the GOP candidates Tuesday.

M. H. McLetchie, New Orleans, LA   June 4th, 2007 12:50 pm ET

Sen Biden won the debate. He gave the most direct and realistic answers to difficult issues, instead of engaging in generalities and political pontificating.

Micah Lexington Ky   June 4th, 2007 12:23 pm ET

Dennis Kuncinich.

Billy, student at Missouri State University, in Springfield   June 4th, 2007 11:51 am ET

OBAMA! I think he was very clear and concise in his responses. I think Richardson avoided directly responding, and his idea about boycotting the Olympics was ridiculous. Gravel and Kucinich are way to out there, irradical and emotional to be an effective president. Dodd, doesnt seem to have an effective grasp and Biden seems to angry. Clinton would make a great vice president.

Pete, Chicago IL   June 4th, 2007 11:45 am ET

Obama won with his retorts to Edwards on the war and health care. Many of Hillary's stronger points had to do with comparing her husband's administration to GWB's administration (e.g., balanced budget, use of diplomacy). That may work with some people, but I'm not interested in continuing the Bush-Clinton double dynasties.

Mayra, San Francisco, CA   June 4th, 2007 11:32 am ET

The winner of the debate for me is still a toss up, although I think Edwards did himself in as far as I'm concerned. He was smug, arrogant, and frankly, righteous, like a smart alecky kid in class who thought he knew all the answers.

My bigger concern was CNN and Wolf Blitzer's line of questioning. Did you think only the tabloids were picking up the story this morning? Too many of the questions were petty, sensational, and insulting to the American intellect's public. You played it to the lowest common denominator. Shame on you. You had an opportunity to raise the bar of the debates and you didn't. Instead you played it small and superficial. You can and should do better than that. At least the candidates called you on it (Hilary, Obama) and they were right to do so. And if you can't get out of your own way, with your attempts at stoking petty fires and asking inane questions, then maybe you should leave the debates to a more capable news source.

Cole, Manchester, NH   June 4th, 2007 11:09 am ET

Hillary Clinton won by far

D. Barton, Gainesville, Ga.   June 4th, 2007 11:07 am ET

Well I think that Hillary and Kucinich were the strongest. But Kucinich was my final choice because he chose not to kill innocent people, to assinate a terrorists. War only brings war. I'm still torn between Clinton and Kucinich.

Jessica Madisonville, KY   June 4th, 2007 11:00 am ET

BARACK OBAMA by far!

Nate, Lansing, Michigan   June 4th, 2007 10:56 am ET

I think they all lost when every candidate on stage failed to give the Bush administration credit for no terrorist attacks since 9/11. I don't support the war Iraq, I just know you can't deny some success when we have avoided several plotted attacks since 9/11. I don't support the war, but I don't support a divided America also. I feel if any of these candidates win, that's exactly what we will see.

Madelaine, Miami, Florida   June 4th, 2007 10:53 am ET

John Beland   June 4th, 2007 10:50 am ET

Stupid questions by a lame host. Anderson Cooper should have hosted the debate, as Wolf Blitzer was as absolutely embarrassing as the questions he asked.
CNN, with all it's bimbo newscasters and dramatic background music, has been rolling downhill ever since Turner let it go. UGH!
BTW...I was impressed with Biden.
John Beland

Pete, West Hartford, CT   June 4th, 2007 10:47 am ET

Biden won the debate.

Dodd and Biden are the most qualified for the job, we need more participation from these "second tier" candidates.

I am not sold on any of "The Top Tier". Richardson is imploding. Gravel and Kucinich could help everyone by staying home next time.

CNN did better than MSNBC but that's not saying much. I think we need Jim Lehrer, Gwen Ifill and PBS to have a balanced debate. Come on Wolf, you're supposed to help keep us informed, not sell us something!

Jeremy, Littleton NH   June 4th, 2007 10:41 am ET

Clinton showed poise and leadership.

Biden showed knowledge and passion.

Obama and Edwards were dissapointing.

The others fell by the wayside.

Winner: Clinton.

Mark , Dallas , Tx   June 4th, 2007 10:32 am ET

You Can really tell who was a Clinton supporter before this debate because they thought she won... It was obvious that Biden and Sen K. were the co winners of this debate.....even if K's ideas on the military are a little naive

Lynne, Bedford, New Hampshire   June 4th, 2007 10:30 am ET

Biden was honest, knowledgeable, realistic, forceful, & consistent. He took the high road early on, declining to criticize his fellow candidates. I’m registered independent & now lean toward voting for Biden in the primary (we NH independent voters can vote in either the Rep. or Dem. primary).
Where are the questions about the environment? If we mess that up, nothing else will matter. Dodd got that right in his answer to the stupid ? about gas prices; Gravel had a good point too, that adding in war costs, gas is a lot more than $3/gal. Lose the “Raise your hand if” ?’s – they’re irrelevant & harmful. And who do you think you are, positioning Edwards, Clinton, & Obama in the center & giving them more time than anyone else?

Larry, Delmar, NY   June 4th, 2007 10:20 am ET

Senator Clinton clearly won the debate. Her knowledge of the issues, confidence in her position and ability to convey her message was impressive. Sen. Obama needs to consider whether his hand gestures are off-putting. Sen. Biden was the most surprising and candid. While I think he could make a good president, I think he would be an awesome Secretary of State no matter who become President.

By far Bill Richardson, he went to the root of the problems. Obama at times stumbled in his responses, as with the VA clinics, he did not directly address the woman's question.

M.L. Square   June 4th, 2007 10:11 am ET

Barak Obama stood out as the clear winner.
He is the next president.

Jamie Brooks Pike, NH   June 4th, 2007 10:05 am ET

Obama. Shame on Wolf for acting as though there are only three candidates for the Democratic nomination (Clinton, Obama, Edwards). If CNN is going to invite all of the candidates, Wolf should at least try to give them equal time. Very unfair and the voters suffered for it.

David, Atlanta GA   June 4th, 2007 10:00 am ET

I would just like to point out that Hillary Clinton made a false statement regarding the Republican candidates due to debate on Tuesday. Clinton said that all the Republican candidates are for the Iraq war, however, candidate Ron Paul has been against the Iraq war from the very beginning which is more than I can say about Clinton or Edwards and the like.
I just want viewers to know that Clinton's statement was false, and I hope that CNN allows Ron Paul to speak at length on his position since no correction was made at the time of the debate even though Wolf Blitzer has interviewed Ron Paul and knows his position on Iraq.

Bebe, Los Angeles, CA   June 4th, 2007 9:52 am ET

I felt that Joe Biden came across as most knowledgeable and presidential.

Hillary did well, but I always get the feeling that she's playing the odds rather than speaking straight.

I really like John Edwards, and he did well during the first half; but in this situation, I think he looked uncomfortable sitting down.

Barack Obama is interesting, but comes across to me as aloof. I'm afraid that the Republicans will eat him alive because he doesn't like to engage in debate.

I'm glad that Dennis Kucinich was there. He brought up some good points.

Al, Ottawa, Ontario   June 4th, 2007 9:47 am ET

Hillary Clinton won the debate.

She came into the debate as a winner and left the debate as a winner. She was "presidential" during the evening. When she questioned Wolf's questioning, all others looked at her as a bunch of school kids admiring their teacher. Edwards was a too critical of his fellow democratics and a blamer.

Hilary has had a good leader all these months as a presidential candidates, even though she has been under a microscope for decades. The other canadidates may perish in the polls if they are under a microscope. Familarity breeds contempt and distance lends enchantment.

Hillary rocks! Hillary, our 2008 president, yeah!

Rich, New York City   June 4th, 2007 9:47 am ET

Barack Obama - hands down.

What was with Clinton invoking her husband that many times. He is old hat - we want new hat!

Also - what was with that fake wicked witch of the west cackle she had going on?

Harry Stoner, Peoria, IL   June 4th, 2007 9:45 am ET

Barack Obama - easily.

Barnaba Bienkowski, Rochester NY   June 4th, 2007 9:40 am ET

Every time I hear Clinton speak I learn something new. Nobody I've ever heard can recall relevant facts with such ease.

John - Manchester NH   June 4th, 2007 9:34 am ET

First: Biden – passionate; articulate; knowledgeable.
Second: Obama – great comeback on edwards (Iraq issue).
Third: Dodd – Stong on the issues.
Fourth: Richardson
Fifth: Clinton – Iraq vote still haunts.
Six: Kusinich
Seventh: Edwards – His efforts to confront Clinton/Obama missed and the question on "first 100 days" he was completely caught napping ..."my brain just came on".
Eighth – Gravel...yikes.

Lewis C. Atkins, Sydney, NSW, Australia   June 4th, 2007 9:11 am ET

Obama won even more points with me, he won hands down!

Jason, Starkville, MS   June 4th, 2007 9:10 am ET

Biden clearly won and looked most presidential. Yes, Kucinich and Gravel had good honest answers but neither presented themselves as presidential.

Winners: Biden, Edwards, Obama, Clinton

The next debate should only consist of the above 4. I'm all for access and a fair shake to guys like Gravel and Kucinich but it's time to narrow this thing down so some real discussions, and not one-liners, can be had.

Anonymous   June 4th, 2007 9:00 am ET

CARL WON

John, Park Ridge, IL   June 4th, 2007 8:20 am ET

Nobody won the debate, but the biggest losers were primary voters for listening to the garbage that Wolf Blitzer put forward, proving once again that the moniker "best political team" is as manufactured as Chris Dodd's answers. Not once were the questions insightful, and, in fact, Hillary Clinton got a great pot-shot in on Mr. Blitzer, once going so far as to verbally smack him upside the head for his constant hypothetical questioning. How disappointing, CNN, that even Fox News held a better, more professional debate than you. Do you know how that makes me, as a Democrat, feel? I'm terribly disappointed in CNN's coverage. I only hope that the Republican debate is hosted by someone with a modicum of intelligence. This was useless.

And anyone who thinks Obama won the debate needs to listen to it sans the surrounding rhetoric from Blitzer, Cooper, and the CNN politicos. Obama had an awful debate, sparring with Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich on several occasions. If Obama is a front-runner, he, like Hillary, should be debating as if he's already won this thing. Edwards, meanwhile, sidestepped Obama and went straight for Hillary, instinctively showing he didn't consider Obama a threat. He, not Biden, gained the most from the debate.

Anonymous   June 4th, 2007 8:08 am ET

obama won much better than the last debate.

A.S. Linde, Washingtin DC   June 4th, 2007 8:08 am ET

Wolf Blitzer was the loser – his search for headline making responses and McAnswers reduced riveting dialogs to bubble gum politics. The raise your hand if you 1) Bomb Iran, 2) Boycott Olympics, 3) Shoot Osama Bin Laden if you had the chance was a sophomoric reduction of complex questions to head line grabbing answers.

I trust he will not be asked to moderate a debate of intelligent people again in the future.

Doug, Conyers Georgia   June 4th, 2007 8:00 am ET

BARACK OBAMA!!! He was decisive and demonstarted his vision agian! Tell yo' Mama its OBAMA!!!!

Pam, Lapel, Indiana, US   June 4th, 2007 7:57 am ET

There was no clear winner.

Several of the candidates, notably Edwards, Obama and Biden, had very good nights. I am supporting one candidate but would be happy to have any one of six as the next POTUS.

This is the strongest field of primary candidates for either party in at least 40 years, perhaps ever.

Lee Adams, Santa Cruz, California   June 4th, 2007 6:39 am ET

Hilary Clinton won the debate!!!

Erik, Irvine CA   June 4th, 2007 5:56 am ET

I agree with the comments that Wolf Blitzer did a poor job - he kept jumping in, making little noises and saying half-words to tell the candidates they needed to stop talking. The other networks are using a light system with a bell - why can't CNN? It was also absurdly clear that they favored the top three, placing them side by side in the front on stage and relegating everyone else to the corner. So much for "fair and balanced". Oh, wait–

I think Gravel and Biden won the debate. They had the most passion and honesty. Gravel really would give power back to the people; Biden is the only one who can stand up to a "tough Republican". I'm a Republican, so just a word of advice to Democrat primary voters: don't pick Hillary. If she wins, she'll be a more divisive candidate than George W. Bush or Bill Clinton ever were.

Victoria, Stockton, CA   June 4th, 2007 5:39 am ET

Obama won hands-down. He's what America needs right now else we'll regret again as has happened electing George Bush against Kerry!!!

Don, Bow NH   June 4th, 2007 4:58 am ET

Biden seemed to be the most decisive and has the most common sense. Don't leave your troops defenseless. I want a strong president that will stand up for what is right and not necessarily politically correct. Edwards is second and the rest are last

Erik John in Holland, Mich   June 4th, 2007 4:52 am ET

Sen. Mike Gravel and Rep. Dennis Kucinich continue to display the most fundamental and sensible Progressive platform. Kucinich is the only one talking about single payer and Gravel was spot on in exposing some of the so called front runners who are flat out not doing their jobs. His proposal for earning college tuition through civil service is dynamite. I'm very inspired by these two they are making the most of what little time they are given to speak and both display tremendous leadership qualities.

Craig Cooper, Thayer, MO   June 4th, 2007 3:50 am ET

Hillary Clinton, hands down. She is the most experience, articulate candidate in the field by a long shot.

Obama impressed me, and I feel that this was a great improvement over his initial performance in the MSNBC debate. He's a great speaker, but debates are a challenge to him. However, substantively, he's getting there.

I also loved Biden's passion. I think he did a lot for his candidacy tonight.

Richardson was a complete disappointment... this was not a good night for him, and coupled with his awful MTP interview, he may have hammered the last nail in the coffin of his campaign.

Also, Edwards blew it. He came off as a whining idiot who was completely insincere.

As for Gravel and Kucinich... must we really invite them to the party? Puh-lease.

Dodd did well, but didn't get enough talk-time and didn't really stand-out.

Michael, Cambridge, NY   June 4th, 2007 3:22 am ET

Hillary Clinton. Mike Gravel is a loudmouth baby and Richardson and Kucinich are idiots. I loved Hillary's jab at Cheney.

j, houston, tx   June 4th, 2007 3:00 am ET

gravel from alaska is the most honest...too bad they gave him the least amount of camera time (just as in the last debate)...he should be given a cabinet position with the next democratic president (hopefully al gore!)

Adnan NY   June 4th, 2007 2:54 am ET

Obama did it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Randy Orlando Florida   June 4th, 2007 2:42 am ET

Biden is the clear obvious choice. He has more experience than all others combined.

Obama is a lightweight. If he would have read the intelligence report to vote to give bush the authority to start a war, he too might have voted for it.

Nobody voted to go to war, they voted to give bush the ability to go to war. They did not expect him to pull the inspectors out and go to war.

Terry, New York, NY   June 4th, 2007 2:41 am ET

I don't think there was a clear "winner" of the debate. Each of the candidates showed strengths and weaknesses in their performance tonight. In fact, it wasn't really a true debate, as every candidate did not have the opportunity to address each question. I would like to hear the the views of ALL of the candidates. Too many of the questions were skewed to the media-appointed "front runners", Clinton, Obama and Edwards. We'll never get to know the views of all the candidates unless the media stops playing favorites.

Andrew Berquist, Pago Pago, American Samoa   June 4th, 2007 2:34 am ET

First: Awesome that CNN uses wordpress. Kudo's to them on that.

Second: I was disappointed with the debate (maybe because my cable box kept messing up) but more or less, I saw people getting cut off before they could prove a point. I felt Richardson and Biden were both strong in defending themselves, however Richardson constantly got cut off by Wolf, which was a huge disappointment to me. On another note the 'underdogs' so to speak were pretty much ignored. I'm not a fan of Dodd, but I do like to see what Dennis and Mike have to say. Both of them were ignored, along with Richardson. I was disappointed that CNN could not separate itself from the other TV networks. Their political analysts also need to realize they don't need to 'stick with the mainstream' when picking a 'winner'. Be brave.

eric flagstaff az   June 4th, 2007 2:16 am ET

biden clinton in that order...obama...big dissapointment, what did he do that seems to have everyone so impressed?

Lynn, San Diego, CA   June 4th, 2007 2:11 am ET

I liked Clinton tonight. I always like her in debates. No issue or question flusters her, and when you ask her a question that is not mainstream, she throws out specifics so you know she is not only aware of, but understands the issue. I feel a president should always have "command" of all of the issues.

I also feel that Biden had a good night.

Sujata Ghosh,Walnut,California   June 4th, 2007 2:04 am ET

Clearly Obama! The only one who portrayed confidence backed by complete grasp of issues , and a clear plan to resolve.

Nathan, Tempe, AZ   June 4th, 2007 2:04 am ET

Mike Gravel without a doubt. Anyone who voted for the funding for Iraq is not a candidate you want.

CNN didn't give him anywhere near the time to talk, and still managed to have more content than anyone else.

Sharma, Lubbock, TX   June 4th, 2007 1:58 am ET

Barack Obama certainly made his stand very clear and remained focused on the points raised. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton did not come out as passionate about the issues.

Wendy, Tenn.   June 4th, 2007 1:55 am ET

She's in to win, and that she did - Hillary rocked this debate!

Love her or hate her (I happen to be of the former), you have to admit there was that defining moment when she took charge of the debate by demanding that the candidates weren't answering hypothetical, useless questions - and EVERY SINGLE candidate up on the stage with her let her do it.

Hillary is the cream of the cream, so to speak, and she comprises all the qualities America needs in a president right now.

Go Hillary!

Hugh Schintzius, Asheville, NC   June 4th, 2007 1:42 am ET

Barack Obama won!!!
His answers were calm, thoughtful, collected and on the mark.
Watch the debate again, and look at Hillary when she is not speaking. She looked like a tired and drained politician. And I don't get where Hillary has all this "experience over Barrack. Twelve years as the wife of a govenor, 8 years as the wife of a president, sorry... that is not leadership. Barack has been a leader more years than Hillary.

Joe, San Francisco, CA   June 4th, 2007 1:35 am ET

GRAVEL hands down. He is the only candidate here that has consistently provided a straight answer to the questions asked. I feel that he has the experience and attitude needed to whip Washington politics into line and regain the respect of the world and the trust of the American people.

Leo, New Brunswick, NJ   June 4th, 2007 1:30 am ET

BILL RICHARDSON won the debate. I disagree with CNN's so called "analysts". It's very interesting that searching this blog, and the interviews they made with people, real people, not hired "analysts", that viewed the NM governor as a potential "winner". He was the only one that talked the language of the people about the daily issues that surrounds us, with clear solutions and real proposals to the problems, not "just-another-candidate" talking.

Daniel, Surf City, NC   June 4th, 2007 1:29 am ET

Edwards showed by far the best leadership and seemed to me to offer the best ideas. It was a shame he got cut off a few times before getting to answer his questions in the second half. I would have liked to have heard the answers

Patrick S, Los Angeles, CA   June 4th, 2007 1:29 am ET

I am so proud of all the candidates, but JOHN EDWARDS was most direct & true. He won me over

John White, Ozone Park, New York   June 4th, 2007 1:13 am ET

Biden appears to be the only Democrat with a commanding grasp of all the issues. I think we could all feel safe with him in the White House, opposed to "polished" candidates like Edwards and Obama.

I really don't thing that north americans wants a president that say something today and tomorrow another. Edward is the man. If mrs clinton or obama won , I'll go with the republicans.

Greensburg, PA   June 4th, 2007 12:51 am ET

Barack Obama

:He lived up to the hype, as his strong policy resonated throughout the night. He was constantly attacked by Sen. Edwards who attmepted to create a live smear campaign of both Obama and Clinton, but Obama seemed to prevail. Sen. Clinton performed well on some issues, but appeared shakey on other's she has to be more honest with the american people and not hide her humility.

Seamus, Bellingham, WA   June 4th, 2007 12:47 am ET

Richardson gave really strong answers, often bringing in issues (education, Guantanamo Bay) that were ignored by both the other candidates and the questioners. Obama stumbled too many answers to really make a positive impression.

Elaine Thomas, Norton, Ohio   June 4th, 2007 12:44 am ET

I think Edwards won. I glad he brought that up about Clinton and Obama waiting to cast their vote. I was for Clinton but now I am going to take a closer look at the other candidates. I was disappointed in Obama but I think Biden did great.

Yam, Las Cruces, NM   June 4th, 2007 12:35 am ET

I think Obama won the debate because he was clear and confident on the issues.

John Isocoff, Birmingham, AL   June 4th, 2007 12:22 am ET

Mark Barritt, I'm surprised you turned from FOX long enough to even see the debate. That's okay...just keep drinking the Cool-Aid.
More importantly, I think Hillary won tonight. She's going to continue to take it hard from the right, but I think she's up for the task. This is certainly her race to win or lose, and I think tonight she won it.

Bonnie, Toledo, OH   June 4th, 2007 12:19 am ET

1. Biden – Leadership with heart
2. Kucinich – Courage to stand up for his beliefs
3. Clinton – Overall grip on the world
8. Edwards – We have a bully in office already!

Michael, Huntington, W.Va.   June 4th, 2007 12:12 am ET

SENATOR CLINTON is the obvious winner. She was poignantly presidential. I agree with many of the analysts that she went in the front runner and came out the front runner. In my opinion, she even picked up a point or two in the polls.

Nunayer Beezwax, Duluth, MN   June 4th, 2007 12:05 am ET

Joe Biden far and away won this debate, he appears to be the most intelligent, forceful, confident, and presidential of the Democratic candidates. I dearly hope he at least gets chosen as the Vice, as he probably won't get the nomination.

Anybody else salivating over the fantasy ticket of Gore/Biden?

Gravel is clearly ignorant and borderline crazy...Kucinich is far too passive and peacenik...Dodd is an empty suit and far too much of a politician...Richardson is an egotistical gasbag whose self-destruction has only begun...Obama appears childish and ignorant...Clinton comes across as angry and defensive...Edwards is too much of a slick lawyer...Biden is clearly the strongest of the candidates and unless Gore gets into the race, he is the Democrats' best hope.

marie, richmond,va   June 3rd, 2007 11:49 pm ET

Jether, Charlotte, NC   June 3rd, 2007 11:44 pm ET

In my opinion, Sen. Obama won the debate because he was very calm and concise with his responses. He also seemed to be very genuine and to the point on subjects that were raised. Obama looked presidential too!

Sted, New Orleans, Louisiana   June 3rd, 2007 11:44 pm ET

Hilary Clinton was dynamic and has the air of dignity our presidency needs. Remember the US needs someone to remake the image of America after the Bush Regime, and surely she has shown her allegiance to her country, whilst respecting humanity, for many many years now. Obama is playing too much on the black card and 'trying' to sound and 'look' confident, he just seems to affected, and has not the experience to redirect our country unlike Hilary Clinton. As a Black American man, Hilary will get my vote!

Glenn, Wauconda IL   June 3rd, 2007 11:32 pm ET

1. Hillary-I am sorry to say, she was poised and wouldn't let the other candidates paint her into a corner on her iraq vote, and at times she was controlling the debate. Don't get me wrong, I am still supporting Obama, but no doubt Hillary maintained her front-runner status.
2. Obama-He looked pretty smooth and polished and I was happy to see him call out edwards on his Iraq leadership, I aslo thought it took courage to say he would not be afraid to use the military against Bin Laden. As i said above, ih ew wants to win he needs to start calling out hillary on Iraq, where she is most vulnerable.
3. Biden, clearly placed himself at the top of the 2nd teir had some strong answers and wasn't afraid to get a little loud.
4. Edwards, he is starting to go beyond looking boyish and into kind of whiney, His answers sounded too scripted.
5. Richardson, clealry has done a lot of good as New Mexico govenor, but didn't cite the cost of brinig those programs to the federal level. Also wasa too soft spoken. I think he would be a good VP.
6. Chris Dodd, Didn't do anything to distingush himself from the other candidates, he should be out soon.
7. Dennis Kucinich. Clealry has some good ideas, but looks like an idiot while presenting them and is clealry way too liberal to ever get elected.
8. Mike Gravel, looking like a doddering fool who knows nothing about politics.

Montana Miller, Perrysburg, Ohio   June 3rd, 2007 11:24 pm ET

Edwards, Obama, and Clinton all did very well, but I thought Edwards was the most impressive. He won me over completely. I'd love to see him on a ticket with either one of the other two!

Kaitlin, Manchester, New Hampshire   June 3rd, 2007 11:20 pm ET

Biden won me over & the debate.. Edwards second & Dodd needed more talk time.

Gail Huntley, Duluth, MN 55803   June 3rd, 2007 11:17 pm ET

Good format. All did well, but the most electable was John Edwards. How many more of these are we going to have to watch. By primary time we all will be able to give their stump speeches. Hope the American public is paying attention, not just us political hacks.

John, Groton, CT   June 3rd, 2007 11:16 pm ET

Joe Biden impressed me the most concerning Darfur. I sensed his ability to "Give a Damn" about poor people without a lot of oil. They bleed just like the abused born in oil rich countries with internal conflicts.

Jamie Jonesville, VA   June 3rd, 2007 11:16 pm ET

I was horribly disappointed in Hillary Clinton. At the beginning of the evening, I was leaning towards Clinton, now, after watching her and listening to her answers, I'm nearly certain I couldn't vote for her. This is sad as I dearly DEARLY wanted to vote for a woman for president. However, I refuse to vote for her simply because she IS a woman.

I believe Edwards did wonderfully, I was thankful for his honesty and a bit surprised by how active a role he took in the debate. He seems extremely educated and passionate. Very nice.

Obama was also great, maybe more so for what he didn't say than what he did. He didn't try to attack Hillary, he didn't try to trash the Bush administration (not that they don't deserve it!) he did however seem cool, concise, and educated about the issues. It's nice to know that there is a politician that is capable of being all these things.

I was also impressed with what Richardson said. While not the best speaker, what he actually said was refreshing.

It's still too early for me to pick my favorite, but this debate did help me form more solid opinions.

Debby K. Hill   June 3rd, 2007 11:07 pm ET

I think that John Edwards won this debate, he showed leadership and a strength of character that we need in our presidents, and something we have been missing since G.W. took office.

Mike San Diego,CA   June 3rd, 2007 11:07 pm ET

BILL RICHARDSON!!

Mark Barritt, Tampa, Florida   June 3rd, 2007 11:05 pm ET

None of them won. They're all pigs at the feeding trough, ready to pit people of different socio-economic backgrounds against one another. Let's get real here and understand that aside from Kucinich (whom I don't agree politically with AT ALL, but who expresses new ideas) they are all spewing the same rhetoric, waiting to institute SOCIALISM in its purest form as soon as they're given the opportunity. At a time when most in Europe even are turning away from leftist ideals, this motley crew continues to plot a path towards apathy, ignorance, and non-productivity for our entire nation. I couldn't believe what I was hearing from Barack Hussein Obama and his plan to REQUIRE veterans to be treated at veteran's hospitals. My father is a veteran, has private health insurance, and has been treated at a variety of private hospitals. I'm quite surprised that Hillary didn't bring up her quote from before whereby she suggested that "we're going to take those profits (referring to oil companies)." Who in the hell is she to tell a private business venture that she's going to come in and set what is acceptable for a profit margin? Thanks, but I'll take my health care private, my marketplace free of useless leftist regulation, and my taxes low.

Kimberly, Raleigh, NC   June 3rd, 2007 11:00 pm ET

OBAMA WON THIS ONE!!! I find it interesting that in the post-debate review, several of the panelists with Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer felt that Obama didn't go after Hilary more because it's not in his nature – that's what the country needs! Unity, not division! Even though Hilary may be making some good moves, how can we realistically elect a 'team' as president, much less a 'team' still under a cloud of controversy due to Whitewater?
OBAMA '08

Rachel, St. Louis, MO   June 3rd, 2007 10:57 pm ET

I am a Democrat still unsure about who I will vote for in the primaries. Yet, tonight it was clear that Hillary Clinton would make a poised, assertive, intelligent, and well reasoned President. She definitely won the debate, even calling out Wolf Blitzer on his attempt (with the hand raising) to garner ratings with overblown hypotheticals. Obama had a very very off night. Really disappointing. Other than that, all of Biden's responses were clear and to the point (which I appreciated). The rest of the candidates were blah.
Great Job Hillary!!

Jeremy, Gastonia , NC   June 3rd, 2007 10:57 pm ET

John Edwards for sure. With the Iraq issue particularly.

Anonymous   June 3rd, 2007 10:53 pm ET

Hilary Clinton. No question in my mind.

Eileen, Maplewood, NJ   June 3rd, 2007 10:49 pm ET

Without a doubt, Clinton continues to be seen as Presedential.

David Erlichman, Harrisburg, PA   June 3rd, 2007 10:47 pm ET

I'm so sick and tired of Wolf Blitzer that it's sickening to listen to anything he says. He'a HORRIBLE moderator as he loves to hear himself more than the Presidential candidate's answer (as if he is on the same ego status as them) and constantly forced the candidtates to hold up their hands like school children as he blatently gave the medica's "front's runners" more time than the other candidates. Why invite the other candidates if the entire process is rigged against them?
How could Edwards avoid answering any questions on his $500,000 salary from the "off shore tax shelter" (for doing nothing), his $55,000 speaking fee from a state university on "poverty" and the O'Reilly report showing that his neighbors (across the street from his 30,000 sqaure foot palace absolutely hate him.) Blitzer need to fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst debate I've ever seen, although with his 7 minutes of total time Biden was the clear winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matthew, Ann Arbor, MI   June 3rd, 2007 10:47 pm ET

Despite what I would consider irresponsible coverage by CNN (i.e. giving the most air time to the three "front runners" and having put them together in the prime seats for convenient viewing) I would have to say Bill Richardson convinced me that he has the most experience in affairs, both foreign and domestic. He demonstrated, more than any of the other candidates, that he has the knowledge and ability to tackle this country's most important issues. I still consider myself a supporter of Obama, but Richardson has gained significant ground.

Kyu Reisch, Radcliff, Kentucky   June 3rd, 2007 10:46 pm ET

Definitely Hillary Clinton. Obama's Health Care is from the Hillary's(14 Years ago) basically also every answer was hesitating and unclear. Edwards is shaky, he doesn't answer his point always use other candidate's name and explain, he is vulgar, I can't trust him. Hillary was very calm, respect others, answered clearly and conquared the all of candidates, she showed the leadership, they paid attention to Hillary, she controlled the debate tonight.

Mitch Henry, Des Moines, Iowa   June 3rd, 2007 10:44 pm ET

OBAMA

Juan Nieto, M.D., Austin, Texas   June 3rd, 2007 10:43 pm ET

Kudos for Congressman Kucinich for making this a real debate...his ideas on healthcare are the best! He is obviously the most conscientious and sincere candidate with no fear. As a physician, I believe that his approach is the only real solution to a national crisis. I invite all the other candidates to my ER to see how their plans would make a difference!

James Selinski, Buffalo NY   June 3rd, 2007 10:41 pm ET

I think Hillary clearly won the debate, but Obama showed great vision and a natural tendency to think at a higher level. I'm pretty much undecided between those two right now.

Regardless of which individual was the winner, the Democratic parter was the biggest winner. It was a very good debate, perhaps the best I've ever seen.

Dennis Perkins, Livingston, TX   June 3rd, 2007 10:40 pm ET

Biden won hands down. Richardson was my man until he advocated not breaking up illegal immigrant families.
English only for voting is right and proper. If you understand English, and speak it, then there shouldn't be a problem. I have worked overseas, and my international shot record was a must. We have to control our borders!
An illegal immigrant epidemic carrier will show us the error of our policy.

sri kolli,chesterfeild,mo   June 3rd, 2007 10:39 pm ET

Elvis Caines   June 3rd, 2007 10:38 pm ET

Senator Clinton showed courage, strength, leadership and knowledge.

Deborah Kiracofe   June 3rd, 2007 10:37 pm ET

Edwards won the debate.

Dave--LA--CA   June 3rd, 2007 10:37 pm ET

I support Edwards, but–Hilary won!!

Kim, Babbitt, MN   June 3rd, 2007 10:36 pm ET

Joe Biden won

Thomas, Manhattan NY   June 3rd, 2007 10:36 pm ET

HRC stood above the rest again, her grasp of all the issues presented to her is always astounding, she really knows her stuff. HRC won.

Biden also came across very well, strong on several issues, a straight shooter.

Obama reminds me of cotton candy at a festival; as a kid cotton candy always looked really good and tempting, but each time I got some bit into it, I was always disappointed because there was a lot of fluff but almost no substance. Obama, to me, is a cotton candy candidate – looks good but no substance.

I want to see a Hillary (P)/Biden (VP) ticket. Good job Hillary.

Curt Sigler westminster, COLORADO   June 3rd, 2007 10:35 pm ET

John Edwards did the best and improved himself overall in ratings I think.

Kucinitch I think won the debate n my opinion and views, I am a Independent Conservative Constitutionalist. I support the Constitution and Liberty, Kucinitch is the closest to my views.

Obama I think failed miserably. He had to at least maintain his front 2-3 status and in my opinion heshould be about 5-6 now.

CNN and America I LOVED the format and I think America got a good debatecompared o the ones jheld so far, and I can not wait until tuesday to see Dr. Ron Paul in this format.

Yes I am a Ron Paul supporter,an the only person who could get my vote over him is Jesus himself.

Believe it or not I am objective about this, I do not like Bush or Clinton administrations and blame all 3 for the position America is in now, my only hope is that the American peple have awoken to our situation and that DieBold doesn't count the votes in 08.

Great job Wolf and CNN from an Independent Conservative...

Guillermo I. Castillo-Feliu, 1041 Pinecrest Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29732   June 3rd, 2007 10:35 pm ET

It is too early to make a definitive judgment but, to my mind, Clinton, Edwards, Biden, and Dodd seemed to stand out somewhat. Richardson is certainly presidential material as well. Obama seemed somewhat less definitive than I would have liked. All of the above could receive my support.

Randy, Houston Tx   June 3rd, 2007 10:33 pm ET

Hillary is a corporate whore and Obama belongs to Israel, not America.

Kurt, Norman, OK   June 3rd, 2007 10:33 pm ET

Obama, Edwards, Biden, and Dodd seemed to do a very good job tonight. I was disappointed that Obama and Clinton got almost twice as much time as Biden or Dodd.

La Rae, Sacramento, CA   June 3rd, 2007 10:32 pm ET

I think Hillary did very well, and Obama held his own, too. But I think Edwards showed real guts. He's also very likeable. I am surprised that he doesn't have more support. I see his strong appeal, and I am a black woman...

Gene Mellott, Fayetteville, NC   June 3rd, 2007 10:31 pm ET

Won? Well if we go by the amount of time allowed each candidate...Clinton, Obama, Edwards and Biden. If you go by what they had to say -1. Kucinich (except he really blew the Bin Laden question)2. Obama (articulate, quick and well spoken)3. Edwards (a little too plastic, but getting there) 4. Clinton (center stage CNN) 5. Gravel (could be so much better received if he could get his arms around his enthusiasm). 6. Richardson – quit preaching his success stories – to self serving. 7. Biden – no comment. Dodd...dud

Douglas, Bennettsville South Carolina   June 3rd, 2007 10:31 pm ET

Joe Biden distinguished himself as the best candidate tonight. He passionately voiced his concerns over Iraq and the genocide in Darfur and his pursuit of ending them both.

Steve Berg, Sausalito, CA   June 3rd, 2007 10:30 pm ET

Hillary, Obama and Biden came in in that order. I believe we will see a Clinton/Obama ticket. And the Repuplicans better run for the hills.

MIKE BEASON   June 3rd, 2007 10:29 pm ET

CLINTON WON TONIGHTS DEBATE, DECISIVE, CONCISE, AND HER ANSWERS WERE TO THE PEOPLE CONCERNED ABOUT MY COUNTRY AND WHERE BUSH HAS FAILED ME/YOU OVER THE PAST 61/2 YEARS. SHE WAS ALSO RIGHT ABOUT QUESTIONS THAT WERE HYPOTHETICAL. NO ANSWER OR DECISION BY ME, YOU, OR A POTENTIAL PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE CAN BE GIVEN BASE ON HYPOTHESIS. CNN WAS WRONG TO ASK THESE TYPES QUESTIONS.

Dr. Brennan Purtzer, Kaunakakai, HI   June 3rd, 2007 10:29 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich, as in the previous debate, separated himself as a man with more innovative ideas in addressing real problems other candidates won't touch.

Janet Wise, Alpharetta, GA   June 3rd, 2007 10:28 pm ET

An unfair question because all candidates were not given equal time and opportunity to express their views.

Bill Richardson was strong when allowed to speak. His response on immigration, Darfur (China), 'deauthorizing the war in Iraq and getting out of Iraq, and diplomacy, diplomacy, diplomacy.

Dennis Kucinich continually shows his integrity, and high level of understanding of issues.

John Edwards was aggressive in an honest manner, that I thought served him well.

I give Wolf Blitzer bottom score. His attempt to capture 'gotcha' soundbites with his hypothetical ultimatum questions was thumbs down.

Dakota, Lake Stevens, WA   June 3rd, 2007 10:26 pm ET

Is this the best the Democrats or the Republicans can come up with for presidential candidates?

Good grief...!!

Surely there must be someone who is reasonably intelligent; who is capable of developing goals; who has budgeting experience; who has leadership and management skills.

Maybe someone from the private sector?

We need a leader!

Lee Iacocca is spot-on right when he states, "Where have all the Leaders Gone?"

Andria, Streetsboro, Oh   June 3rd, 2007 10:26 pm ET

Clinton, she was quick on her feet to provide straight forward answers. She did not stutter nor hesitate she knew her response and anticipated your next question. This proves that she is experienced and knows what she is talking about. She speaks eloquently and yet elegant with sincerity.

donna, San Diego, CA   June 3rd, 2007 10:25 pm ET

Barack Obama won the debate, the only candidate with foresight, pure intellect and works at consensus with class and dignity!!!

Daniel Marino, Methuen MA   June 3rd, 2007 10:22 pm ET

Edwards was clear, concise and Presidential

Billy Bob   June 3rd, 2007 10:22 pm ET

Edwards won, definitely

Stephan -- Sarasota, Florida   June 3rd, 2007 10:21 pm ET

Joe Biden won, hands down.

Craig, Dallas, Tx   June 3rd, 2007 10:21 pm ET

Kucinich had the best answers (in my far left opinion), but due to the limited amount of time did not get a chance to truly "win" the debate. I also that Bill Richardson presented himself really well and definitely has a penchant for getting a clear answer out in a minimal amount of time.

Out of the three candidates that CNN likes, I thought Edwards did a little better, but all were pretty close to me. I think Edwards being on the offensive was a positive, as Hilary wants all voters to believe the candidates are the same when the are not.

Gudrun Scott , Abndeover, NY 14806   June 3rd, 2007 10:21 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich is the one who said we could end the war now if we all really wanted to and he is right.

Dennis is the only one who had the guts to say he would NOT order a strike onto Osama Bin laden and instead he would arrest and try him in a legal court- much better method and avoid backlash from terrorists let alone killing again innocent civilians who might be more likely killed and who knows if Osama is even there- all the other candidates said they would order a killing with 15 minutes of notice- all kinds of things could be wrong with doing such a fast acting decision- these folks are watching too much "24" !! I go with reality and that is a peaceful world -peace is more prosperous as well as slowing glboal pollution and warming from burning oil fires. Be sensible, Go for peace!

Michael, Baltimore, MD   June 3rd, 2007 10:21 pm ET

I believe that Kucinich won the debate, simply because he was honest and practical in his answers. It is too bad that he isn't taken more seriously as a candidate for the presidency. Albeit, if I had to vote tomorrow, I'd cast my ballot for him.

Ryan, Newmarket, NH   June 3rd, 2007 10:21 pm ET

Biden gained my support tonight. He was the only candidate on stage that was clear, consice, and most importantly – HONEST! Sen. Biden was spot on in his assessment with funding our troops. He is the only candidate (with maybe the exception of Gravel) that refrains from pandering to the extreme left for political gain.

Randy , Houston Tx   June 3rd, 2007 10:20 pm ET

You can tell who the REAL Democrats are. Blitzer showed himself to be a Republican shill as he was clearly prejudiced against Kucinich and Gravel and favoring Billary, Obama and Edwards. IF the debate had been run faily then it would have been obvious that Kucinich is the best candidate.

Laura, Littleton, CO   June 3rd, 2007 10:20 pm ET

Edwards won. He is the one that understands the difference betweeen "leading and legislating." He talked about plans for universal health care, college and for solving gas prices. I have confidence in his ability to represent Americans as a moral and strong people

EricD   June 3rd, 2007 10:20 pm ET

In the limited opportunity provided, 11:42, Edwards seemed the most on point and differentiated himself from the positions of his opponents, even though they share many general views. Obama was given the most time, 16:00, and thus had more opportunity to expound.

denis, Inwood WV   June 3rd, 2007 10:19 pm ET

No clear winner, except those of us who like to see & hear candidates instead of political reporters telling us what THEY think about what a candidate said. I guess I was watching a different debate than the talking head brigade. Clinton wasn't the overwhelming presence they thought she was, nor was Richardson the dweeb they made him out to be. If Biden was too forceful for them, if he and other "second tier" candidates got equal consideration perhaps he wouldn't have to be so forceful to ensure he got to finish making a point. Clearly the "journalists" want Clinton or Obama – probably because then they can take it easy and just do puff pieces on personality instead of educating voters on candidate's positions.

Btw, why didn't anyone pick up (during the English question) on Ms. Clinton's concerns about not being able to print ballots in other languages? Silly me – I have the antiquated notion that if you are a citizen you are supposed to speak and write ENGLISH! If you can't be bothered to learn it, maybe you shouldn't be voting!

Tom Lowe, Havertown, PA   June 3rd, 2007 10:18 pm ET

I support Obama, but I felt that John Edwards was the slight winner tonight. I'd say Obama came in 2nd and Hillary in 3rd - even though she did very little to do so.

I think Dodd and Biden did OK within their tier. There really only needs to be one candidate who is on the Democratic Party's fringe and Gravel makes for one too many. Richardson has performed very poorly and, to me, has become the most underwhelming 'serious' candidate of the bunch.

On a side note, I believe that those who talk about this on TV are truly out of touch with how real Americans see the winners and losers of this debate. While most of the talking heads have dubbed Hillary the 'winner' of these first two debates, I would bet the house that an online poll would not support their opinion.

Dr. Kristin Olson Rao, Olney, MD   June 3rd, 2007 10:18 pm ET

Hillary Clinton won the debate.

Julia, Boston, Massachusetts   June 3rd, 2007 10:15 pm ET

John Edwards

C, Pgh, PA   June 3rd, 2007 10:15 pm ET

What debate were you people watching?

Who won? In order: Biden, Dodd, Edwards, Kucinich.

Biden was forceful and showed leadership, as did Dodd. Edwards pointed out differences between himself and Clinton/Obama in a convincing and articulate manner. Kucinich just because he is telling what he truly feels and believes, whether you like it or not. (So does Gravel, but he didn't get to speak much.)

Who lost? Richardson, Clinton.

While I believe that Richardson is intelligent and has depth, he just doesn't come across that way, just like he didn't come across that way on Russert a couple weeks ago. He was terrible again tonight.

Clinton lost because she has the most to lose.

Kelly K   June 3rd, 2007 10:15 pm ET

I think they were ALL fantastic compared to the current president we have! I'm an "anybody but Bush" person. I think the best ticket would include Bill Richardson, but not as the frontrunner, as the vice president because he has great ideas and was an ambassador, so would be great in foreign relations, etc. Hilary/Richardson, Obama/Richardson or Edwards/Richardson would be great tickets!!

M Gress, Cyril, OK   June 3rd, 2007 10:14 pm ET

I was thoroughly impressed with the performance by Sen. Joseph Biden and Rep. Dennis Kucinich in the Presidential debate held this evening. Biden spoke with sincerity and passion; Kucinich debated with coherency and well thought out points (especially the topics including NAFTA and WTO). While I didn't necessarily agree with the two candidates on every issue, I must submit the expectation to see their numbers in the polls to rise.

JLH, Japan   June 3rd, 2007 10:12 pm ET

i think Hilary Clinton won tonight. Edwards sounds like a moaning old woman when he talks, criticising his colleagues. He speaks down to voters as if they do not understand politics and the difficult decisions that are made... I know what I believe and how I would vote but actually being in that position is much more difficult and more complicated. Voters understand that. Obama, i like but he is all too clean for me...he hasnt gotten his hands dirty in politics yet, therefore I cant see how he would react in a tight position and make etremly difficult or unpopular decisions. Obama needs to run next time. I think he is too young and inexpericenced and 'looks tooo good' to be taken seriously.

H. clinton is best equipped for this most difficult but rewarding job. the others just arent steping up to the plate. The US needs a strong President and I dont think the others are ready for this job yet or have the guts to take the US forward!

Dennis, Sarasota, Florida   June 3rd, 2007 10:12 pm ET

Biden was the winner based on his leadership , decisiveness and willingness to at least answer the questions posed to him.

Gladys Wigen, Missoula MT   June 3rd, 2007 10:12 pm ET

Kucinich.

Alex Luthor, Madison, WI   June 3rd, 2007 10:12 pm ET

Biden, but I won't vote for him.

Gravel made the top 3-even though he was given the least amount of time of anyone. 5 minutes, 37 seconds? I want CNN to give EQUAL time to ALL the candidates. Ask one question and have every candidate answer it.

Mike, Silver Spring, MD   June 3rd, 2007 10:11 pm ET

Obama

william, stone mountain, ga   June 3rd, 2007 10:11 pm ET

biden and edwards helped themselves - clinton and obama are falling.

Risa Miller   June 3rd, 2007 10:11 pm ET

Can't wait to have a Clinton back in the White House- does that answer the question- she gets it, she owns it , and she has lived it her whole life!

Maureen Gehrig, Washington, DC   June 3rd, 2007 10:09 pm ET

Senator Clinton handled herself as a true stateswoman and without a doubt the candidate most qualified to be president. YOU GO GIRL! You make all women proud :-) Being a 1970's feminist, I've waited a long time for this moment in history.

Neale Walsch, Ashland, Oregon   June 3rd, 2007 10:09 pm ET

This is a tough call. Overall, I think Clinton won. She was forceful, extremely well informed, comes off as polished, intelligent, and clear. Obama seems less decisive. I like Kucinich on several issues. He, too, is clear and direct. Edwards speaks well, but I would vote for Clinton or Obama...even Kucinich, before Edwards. Can't tell you why. The others just seem to have more substance, more personal power. I was impressed with Joe Biden tonight. He came in a STRONG third in my ratings, behind Hillary and Barack.

Melanie E., Indiana   June 3rd, 2007 10:08 pm ET

Overall Kucinich won. Out of the top three Barack Obama won hands down!

elle, manchester, nh   June 3rd, 2007 10:08 pm ET

Hilary. Obama was a disappointment.

John , Baltimore, md   June 3rd, 2007 10:08 pm ET

Bill Richardson, John Edwards, were the winners. Gravel and Kucinich, did well.

Bonny, Watson, Louisiana   June 3rd, 2007 10:08 pm ET

Senator Clinton. We watched the debate and was not to impressed with Senator Obama–he looked like he was trying to please to many people. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Hillary Clinton. I was not convinced until tonight that I would actually vote for a female for president but she settled any doubts I had!!!!

The Republicans. The Dems showed their true red colors:bigger gov. will solve all the worlds problems.

Aaron Bear, DE   June 3rd, 2007 10:07 pm ET

Joe Biden was the strongest and most realistic candidate in tonight's debate! He get right to the point and was very direct and clear on his answers. It was refreshing to see that in a debate! John Edwards to me seems too polished and into himself. Hillary was a force to be reckened with and showed some great leadership and control. Obama didn't grab as much tonight as in the last debate. He seemed to stumble on his words and his answers were powerful like usual. Joe Biden seemed the most presidential in this debate tonight and that was a great surprise!! Hillary comes in a close second.

Hilary

Lane Kelemen   June 3rd, 2007 10:06 pm ET

Edwards was poised and convincing. He did what Toobin and Blitzer later said politicians never do, he admitted a mistake. He did so eloquently and forthrightly. He didn't seem mistaken on much tonight. He did seem very friendly with Obama. A real mutual admiration society.

Judi, Columbus, OH   June 3rd, 2007 10:06 pm ET

Hillary, In my opinion the other candidates looked to her for leadership in the debate. We all saw toinght that will be our next President.

Rachel, Lake Oswego, Oregon   June 3rd, 2007 10:06 pm ET

Definitely a close call between Obama and Clinton. They both came off as very strong and knowledgeable, and Clinton won points in my eyes. Obama has already won my respect however and it remains that way after tonight as well.

Terry Hollywood Florida   June 3rd, 2007 10:06 pm ET

Hillary Clinton all the way!

Jacob, Toledo, Ohio   June 3rd, 2007 10:06 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich is the only one on that stage that answers the questions honestly and is actually in tune with what Americans want. Well those Americans that care about the country and don't buy into the "American Idol" part of the election.

Most Americans want an end to the war, job growth and job safety including jobs staying in America and not being outsourced to Mexico or China, health care for all Americans, education for all, and a more environmentally healthy world. These are the issues that Kucinich has talked about repeatedly through these debates.

That's why he won this debate, hands down!

Betty, North Carolina   June 3rd, 2007 10:05 pm ET

John Edwards won this debate.

Mary, Amherst, NY   June 3rd, 2007 10:05 pm ET

Richardson is outstanding. He gets my vote. But CNN did not give him the coverage he should have had. I am tired of always hearing from the big Three – though they are good. Richardson has the most practical, thoughtful ideas and he has DONE IT!
If he doesn't get the nod, whoever does would be very smart to ask him to be VP.

Lee House, York Pa   June 3rd, 2007 10:05 pm ET

MOST definetly HILLARY!!
She is the best prepared for the job!

Richard Apple, Sarasota FL USA   June 3rd, 2007 10:04 pm ET

This was the first time that I have seen the second tier candidates come front and center, and it shows that there is as much experience, skill, and talent among the second tier as the first. I did not like Joe Biden since his first presidential run many years ago because I thought he a long-winded smart alec, but I must admit that tonight he was by far the most presidential and reassuring. Maybe he has matured in a good way. politically speaking. I will have to reconsider him. I also thought John Edwards went a long way toward shaking the "phoney" label tonight, especially when he came front and center and candidly admitted he made a mistake on Iraq. Hillary seemed lost in the pack, even though Wolf kept trying to save her by calling on her more than anyone else. Bottom line is I think Biden won, and I think he needs to stress his experience and knowledge.

Barry Gates, Ann Arbor, Michigan   June 3rd, 2007 10:03 pm ET

Obama

JC Collier, Fayetteville, AR   June 3rd, 2007 10:02 pm ET

Don't care what you think of Clinton, by far she is THE MOST informed and gave the most thoughtful answers. Would make a strong President. Edwards was a strong second it's tough, but definitely second. Obama kept giving ok sound bites but was basically an empty suit in the long run. The other candidates raised Obama to heights he could not rise to himself, couldn't believe the other candidates would give him such press – he isn't that much of a threat, I hope.

Amanda, Atlanta, GA   June 3rd, 2007 10:02 pm ET

Of the three front-runners, I felt Obama had the best responses. Overall though, I was very impressed by Richardson's honesty.

Randy Nicholas, RockHill SC   June 3rd, 2007 10:01 pm ET

kucinich, he seems to be the most trustworthy besides Gravel, who seems like he is to seasoned to put up with the bull. Also both of them should have had more time. Wolf could have asked the second tier candidates more questions first.

Greg, Cambridge, MA   June 3rd, 2007 9:58 pm ET

Obama and Richardson, in that order.

Ariane, Brazil   June 3rd, 2007 9:58 pm ET

Korey Kaczynski, I'm curious. Do you approve the war in Iraq? I'm only asking because you pointed out that Kucinich and Gravel made a good impression on you and as a foreigner looking in, they impressed me as well, but they were basically attacking the top 3 candidates, especially the ones who are currently in the Senate because they don't have anything to lose. So if you are a conservative and "don't want either in the White House", how do you think voting Republican is going to help?

Gray, Monterey, CA   June 3rd, 2007 9:57 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich

Michael Zack Chicago IL   June 3rd, 2007 9:56 pm ET

Mrs. Clinton ! She showed her knlowdge on all issues. Mr. Obama did better then he had in the past, but not up to Mrs. Clinton standards

Carl, Brooklyn, NY   June 3rd, 2007 9:56 pm ET

Obama won this one. He did even better than the previous one. That's because he is direct.

Cory-Jeanne Houck-Cox, Alexandria, VA   June 3rd, 2007 9:56 pm ET

I feel that considering the amount of time that candidates were or were not given, Governor Bill Richardson did the best.

Jacob Holt, Knoxville, TN   June 3rd, 2007 9:55 pm ET

I think Obama was the best in the first half and Edwards did the best in the second half. I think Richardson put in a solid performance and did a good job talking about the job experiance he has that would make him a good President. I think the others did okay, Hillary probably hurt herself the most because she is s top contender and more is expected from her. Also, I think her unwillingness to admit mistakes, especially when compared to Edwards, could cause her problems. The overall winner I would have to say is Obama, even though I would like to say Edwards since I support him.

Jennifer, Houston, TX   June 3rd, 2007 9:55 pm ET

Edwards won.

Jordan Buren, Sioux Falls, South Dakota   June 3rd, 2007 9:54 pm ET

Clinton Won Hands Down! I would love to see a Clinton-Obama or a Clinton-Richardson ticket but i wouldn't have anybody but Clinton as the President. but i sure do wish Tom Daschle would run.

Mark, Foothill Ranch, CA   June 3rd, 2007 9:54 pm ET

Obama

Matt Walker   June 3rd, 2007 9:53 pm ET

This is the best field any party has ever assembled. There were five winners tonight, any of whom would make a fine president, alphabetically: Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Obama.

Anonymous   June 3rd, 2007 9:53 pm ET

I think Bill Richardson won the debate, Edwards did a very good job aswell, so hes in for 2nd place

Dean, Page, Arizona   June 3rd, 2007 9:53 pm ET

Hillery won hands down, we look forward to beating her in the General.

Dave   June 3rd, 2007 9:53 pm ET

Obama won by far

Danna Hailfinger, Manchester PA   June 3rd, 2007 9:52 pm ET

For me, Edwards and Richardson stood out because of how they covered the questions.

I also have to commend Biden, Clinton, and Obama. Everyone did well, but Edwards gained the most points with me.

John, Fort Walton Beach, FL   June 3rd, 2007 9:52 pm ET

Senator Obama won. It's that simple.

Callie, Silver Spring, MD   June 3rd, 2007 9:51 pm ET

Clinton won the debate hands down! She ROCKED!

The VAST Right Wing Conspiracy

Myra //Pensacola,Fl   June 3rd, 2007 9:51 pm ET

I think Hillary Clinton won the debate. She was forceful, intelligent and said if elected president she would end the war in her first move. It took guts to be up there among all that testosterone. Go get 'em Hillary!

Lisa Sartin, Austin, TX   June 3rd, 2007 9:51 pm ET

canned. Obama won.

The first female leader of the free world.

G. Schraff , Manassas, VA.   June 3rd, 2007 9:51 pm ET

John Edwards seeemed the most well informed and had his facts correct. Overall, a very good debate.

Kevin, San Francisco   June 3rd, 2007 9:50 pm ET

Hilary won for sure! She spoke in an articulate educated manner and showed she was in control and au fait with all issues. It was amazing to see this woman debate along side several men with such confidence and vigor! Bravo!
However, Obama seems to be playing too much on trying to 'look' like a good 'would-be President', as opposed to actually being a good candidate! He seems a little simplistic and overshadowed by Hilary's years of experience.

RV Crowley 28086   June 3rd, 2007 9:50 pm ET

Andrew Clark, Savannah, GA   June 3rd, 2007 9:50 pm ET

Obama clearly won the debate. I keep waiting for Edwards to break out, but no dice.

Kelli Burton   June 3rd, 2007 9:50 pm ET

I think Hilary Clinton won the debate tonight. She took charge at certain points while the others looked on and she looked presidential. I was disappointed in Senator Obama. I think all the fluff has worn off and we see even though he is smart he seems to be weak on policy.

John, Chapel Hill, NC   June 3rd, 2007 9:50 pm ET

John Edwards came on strong but faded in the second half. Obama and Clinton maintained. Biden moved up, Richardson down.
JB

Dee Anna, Green Bat Wisconsin   June 3rd, 2007 9:50 pm ET

Barack Obama came through strong. He didn't play politics. He was real and authentic and that's what made him stand out in my eyes.

Bryan, Milwaukee, WI   June 3rd, 2007 9:49 pm ET

I have to give Edwards the debate, because he was on the offensive. However, not saying there is a global war on terror is irresponsible, I thought Hillary held her own, Obama looked uncertain in the first half of the debate, I like him and his message but if he get's the nomination the GOP will eat him up like they did John Kerry. Finally can we get rid of Mike Gravel, he is a senile crazy man, and was accusing all the other candidates on earmarks like a conspiracy, he's nuts.

Jason Kendy, Tokyo, Japan   June 3rd, 2007 9:49 pm ET

Edwards for sure. Most informed, most direct. Can see him being president.

Bob & Nancy Huffines Bradenton Florida   June 3rd, 2007 9:49 pm ET

Edwards, Clinton, Richardson, Obama & in that order. BTW, who were the two guys on the ends?

roxanne taylor, bowie, md   June 3rd, 2007 9:49 pm ET

Obama won – his answers were concise.

Biden had some good points. Loved the gentleman from Alaska.
I disagree completely with all re the immigrant question.

Tony   June 3rd, 2007 9:47 pm ET

Richardson clearly had the most substantive ideas and least rhetoric. Too bad Wolf cut him off more often.

billy-bayou,Covington, LA   June 3rd, 2007 9:47 pm ET

there was no debate to win. It was a wild eyed liberal knee jerk photo op.

Isaac Barrientes, Pharr, Texas   June 3rd, 2007 9:46 pm ET

Sen. Clinton :) "You don't have to be straight to shoot straight!!" :D

Thom, Golden, CO   June 3rd, 2007 9:46 pm ET

I think the America People won the debate. Every Democrat on that stage had a better idea of what the future of America looked like than any Republican candidate. They certainly have a better direction for the United States than the current administration.

Franklin Nathan Roseville, ca   June 3rd, 2007 9:46 pm ET

Kucinich had nothing to lose. He won the debate. Mike Gravell was also okay, but Kucinich, with his answer about Bin Laden had the most honest answers. No one gives him any credit. He's ignored by the pundits, but I think Kucinich has my vote.

Kyle Chapman, Buffalo, WV   June 3rd, 2007 9:46 pm ET

Hillary Clinton

Rachel, Chicago, IL   June 3rd, 2007 9:45 pm ET

I think Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden were the leaders in this night. John Edwards lost points with me.

RAFAEL - GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO   June 3rd, 2007 9:45 pm ET

RICHARDSON ATTACKED PROBLEMS IN THE ROOT.

Jake McCook, Fort Worth, TX   June 3rd, 2007 9:45 pm ET

CNN – you did a terrible job with that debate! The questions were weak, divisive, ignorant, unfair and unrealistic. If it weren't for the great people of New Hampshire I would have turned it off. And you CLEARLY favored the top three candidates – Obama, Edwards and Clinton – giving them more then enough time to talk about everything under the sun and actually cutting OFF other candidates like Bill Richardson who were trying to make important, clear statements. Wolf Blitzer is the worst moderator I have ever seen – next time please let Anderson Cooper take the reigns!!!

Arlen, Hanover, New Hampshire   June 3rd, 2007 9:44 pm ET

I think it was a really great debate, and most of the candidates did well.

I think Obama did particularly well tonight, not just because he had the most talking time (which he did, according to the Dodd campaign’s chart). He did a great job of engaging the other candidates, responding to their criticisms of him and at several points he praised his fellow candidates, which looked very, very good. Seemed to have somewhat of a rapport with Edwards in that the two lobbed soft criticisms of each other, but never failed to note that they agreed more than they disagreed on the topics discussed, and praised each other’s plans on various things such as health care.

Other than that, Clinton did okay, Edwards did well as did Dodd, Richardson did all right, Kucinich was Kucinich, I think Gravel kind of faltered, and Biden... well Biden just seemed pretty angry throughout the whole debate.

Jeremy, San Jose, California   June 3rd, 2007 9:44 pm ET

I think Kucinich won the debate because he is the only one who said he wouldn't murder innocent people to kill Osama Bin Laden. What if Bin Laden was in an elementary school in America filled with students. Would you bomb the school to get Bin Laden. We need to lead the world by example and stand up for our principles and murder of innocent civilians is wrong. The ends never justify the means.

Marsha Kelly, Woodbury MN   June 3rd, 2007 9:44 pm ET

I think Bill Richardson won the debate. He was the only candidate who was specific on the actions he would take as President, and illustrated with examples from his tenure as Governor. It's a shame Blitzer didn't give him more time. Unfortunately the lion's share of the questions and time went to Clinton, Edwards and Obama, who were conveniently seated together so the cameras could get all three of the media-proclaimed "frontrunners" in one shot.

Jeffrey Balkind   June 3rd, 2007 9:44 pm ET

Obama won.

Luis, Hawthorne, NJ   June 3rd, 2007 9:43 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich and Mr. Gravel. Hands down.

Korey Kaczynski, Omaha, NE   June 3rd, 2007 9:43 pm ET

The winner, by far, was Kucinich; he came off as the most professional while maintaining honesty. Gravel was second, as he came across as a man of integrity and took the democrats up to task.

I'm a conservative and don't want either in the White House, but those two impressed me above all others.
