Which GOP candidate flies first class?

Ten GOP candidates squared off Tuesday night.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Seen on board the 6 a.m. US Airways flight 1159 from Manchester, New Hampshire to Washington: No less than five GOP presidential candidates: Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, former Virginia Gov. James Gilmore, and Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas.

Four of the five candidates sat in coach.

The lucky candidate who flew first class? Ron Paul.

The candidates were all flying back after facing off Tuesday night in a spirited debate in Manchester, New Hampshire, sponsored by CNN, WMUR-TV, and the New Hampshire Union Leader.

The only candidate worthy of flying first class is Dr. Ron Paul! The other candidats need to sit in coach in order to get in touch with the American people. Ron Paul is already there. All you have to do is look at your own CNN polls to see that!

Good for him. After arguing with the other blind candidates, he needs to relax and take it easy. RON PAUL IS THE HOPE FOR AMERICA!!

Well it doesn't surprise me that Ron Paul flew first class because he's the only "first class" republican candidate.

Not too surprising. Of all of the candidates listed he is the only one that has any class.

Ron Paul is something Americans haven't seen in a very long time. A Statesman, and an honest public servant.
He walks the walk of a true leader and patriot.
Check his record, then go to 'you tube' and see his clips.

I'm very proud of Ron Paul's true patriotism. In times of deceit, Ron Pauls talks about the truth that others doesn't even dare to mention. He is most def. the people's candidate. Finally i see HOPE in politics.

When you don’t fly private, corporate, special interest or PAC Jets, you have to fly on the commercial flights. When you do that all the time, like Ron Paul, you accumulate Frequent Flyer Miles. When you have enough you get free bumps to first class. Maybe Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, James Gilmore, Sam Brownback should fly commercial more often.. That is the worst you can find on Ron Paul…. Being Frugal and getting rewarded for it.. Please..

Why is this a story? Why does it matter? Anyone making even decent mnoney can afford sitting first class. Are you insinuating it would be wrong for me to buy a mustang over a taurus?

Um, Ok. This story is significant why? Seems like Paul is the only smart guy out of the five. Why fly coach when you can fly first class. What a weird story.

Ron Paul is the only Republican with any new ideas and who has a track record for upholding The Constitution.... you know that thing that our country was founded on?

If I were an airline employee Ron Paul is the only candidate that would deserve an upgrade!

All of his amazing points of views and fact based arguments and this tidbit is all CNN will report on?

What about the five other candidates? It would be interesting to see how many private jets there were, especially those provided by corporate "friends" for the price of a first-class ticket.

I donated money to his campaign so he can fly first class. If I could afford one, I would have him fly on a private jet.

CNN, why don't you write articles on how many top-tier candidates fly on corporate chartered jets?

    June 6, 2007 07:07 pm at 7:07 pm |

Yawn. Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani flies on a private jet.

Wow, CNN finally gives Dr. Paul some coverage (after removing the viewer comments because they were pro Paul) and of course its negative.

Why should anyone pay attention to his convictions and vote in congress when they can just as easily focus on whether he flies first class or not!

Maybe the booking agent was a supporter?

Being the only candidate to speak the truth can have it's perks.

I doubt that Ron Paul would use campaign donations to upgrade to 1st class, either he has a ton of frequent flier miles or someone at UA likes him better than the other guys.

What candidate got the second least speaking time in the CNN debate last night?

    Ron Paul.

The first time I posted this, CNN refused to post it in this thread. You know, because the thread is so cluttered with its 4 posts and everything.

  35. Kurt from Pittsburgh

I have no problem with this. CNN's reporting practices have been shady. They clearly tried to ice Dr. Paul out of the debate last night. CNN Should be ashamed, and then running this unfounded story? Someone saw him in first class? I could say anything. "Someone saw Rudy crossdressing again." Oh wait, that actually happened.

    June 6, 2007 07:38 pm at 7:38 pm |
  36. Nancy, Austin Texas

It's called free "first class upgrades". The airlines give them to you for free if you are a frequent flier, which Dr. Paul most certainly is.

Being that Dr. Paul has never taken a paid junket, I'm sure he racks up a lot of commercial frequent flyer miles. So, why wouldn't he be in first class?

This is ridiculous. What is this supposed to insinuate? That Ron Paul isn't the "everyman" that these other candidates are? Ron Paul is the only one with millions of dollars from corporate backers. Let's be reasonable here, CNN.

A hundred thousand dollars, a private jet, not bad for a single speech. And that's just what some likely Republican presidential candidate - in this particular case, Rudy Giuliani - commands right now.

And to find out how the rest of the "first tier" travel...

I think CNN wants to paint Ron Paul as "out of touch" so they won't have to deal with him anymore. Of course, anyone who has a personal jet would be more out-of-touch with the common man, right? But let's not say that–that's influencing the voters in a way that CNN doesn't want.

It's sick when a news agency has to attempt to marginalize someone like that.

WHO CARES? Is that all you got? I'd rather talk about whos winning most of the online polls...rather talk about why that man is not getting the air time like the rest? Giuliani takes a private jet and this is what you print? RP 2008 get with the program

They "forget" to mention that his office RETURNS money every year, that he has always voted AGAINST congressional pay raises, and that he has NEVER taken a junket.

Big harry deal that he uses his own money to fly in a comfortable seat.

  49. R.D. , Indianapolis, IN

Oh no not first class!!! How terrible of him to spring for a decent seat. Why should a man in his seventies spend his hard earned doctor's money on a comfortable roomy seat while us commoners read about it on the internets and hunger for better times when we might be able to afford a commercial flight! Obviously, he should've taken a Greyhound instead.

So Ron Paul flew first class...big deal. (1.) He WAS a doctor and (2.) Its like making a big deal when someone who is poor treats themselves to a Six Dollar Burger at Carls Jr. Whats life all about if you can't treat yourself well once in a while? Write articles about the issues and not petty things like this. Otherwise, I will start putting up posts how I eat ramen for lunch because CA cost of living is out of control thanks to big government. Jeez!

I know alot of self made men (i.e. Medical Doctors) who prefer to fly first class.

I'm extremely middle class, and I've been more than happy to pay the 200-300 fee to upgrade my ticket on long business trips.

It seems to me that to choose to fly back with the "common people" is simple posing.

How is this news worthly? Perhaps you could write about how Ron Paul differs on the ISSUES with other Republicans rather than flight preference. Because when it comes to the things that matter, CNN likes to pretend Mr. Paul does not exist.

  68. Brian, Monroe, Ohio

Wow, I didnt realize CNN even knew Ron Paul was in the running. CNN's next story should be about how badly Ron Paul has beaten every candidate in post debate polls from the American people. It's funny how everyone knows how bad the Fox news slant is, but it seems they are all together when it comes to trying to smear Ron Paul. Ron Paul is growing bigger every hour of every day. Don't believe the corporate media, Ron Paul is very popular and only gets more popular when he opens his mouth and the truth spills out. American is "The Home of the Brave." Being scared is un-American. Be a Patriot, support Ron Paul.

This matters why? Frankly, if he in fact does fly home on most weekends as another person claimed in another comment, he's probably racked up enough frequent flier miles since he returned to Congress in 1998 to get free upgrades for life. So, why not use 'em, especially after listening to Wolf Blitzer and the Establishment Talking Heads for two hours?

As Americans the reporters need to report and stop trying to make news. This is not news this is sad and pathetic. This makes me sick to my stomach that cnn would stoop to this level. He was on a commercial flight and wasn't flying on a private jet. He is also not an environmentalist he is smart older doctor. People who moderate this aren't you just a little embarrassed by this article? Have some journalistic pride or at least American pride.

Well, good for him. I support his candidacy. If other Republicans are wise, they will as well. If not, we can look forward to a Democrat occupying the White House in 2009.

HAHAHA These posts are awesome. I can't really add anything that hasn't been said. Why not do a story on Giuliani making 50 million dollars of 911? Wouldn't that be more news worthy?

Ridiculous article. I actually got vertigo from the spin. What can we do here? Obviously, we should be more selective about our news sites (is that going to get me deleted here?). What else can we do? Money talks, so donating to his campaign will certainly help. He needs money to get his name out there because the 'unbiased' media won't help. Please donate. A google search will bring you to the proper site.

When you fly coach a lot you get frequent flyer upgrades. Do the others fly normal flights or ride corporate jets. Four of the five candidates, rode coach. There are ten candidates. Why wasn't the method of travel of those five mentioned?

    Good for Dr.Paul
He's a statesman and a man of honor. Rather than running a fluff story to paint him in a bad light, maybe you should run a story on why he's so different than the other candidates. This is about choosing a President, not who's best dressed, flies first class, etc, etc...

If I didn't already know how screwed up the media is, I'd think this was a joke. My response...SO WHAT!?

Like has been said, I don't have a problem with Ron Paul flying first class...he IS first class when it comes to presidential candidates. The man deserves a little comfort while travelling the country campaigning.

Ron Paul kicked ALL their butts! CNN is a tool for Rockefeller for rigging the event to give Ron Paul only 6 min of time to speak.

CNN is a tool for Rockefeller for avoiding only Ron Paul on the Health Care question. He was the ONLY MEDICAL DOCTOR ON THE STAGE! No one up there was more qualified to answer that question.

    Rofl, I love it!

Look at the support for Ron Paul! He's the only presidential candidate that is worthy of being the President of the United States and the People of this country know it!

Please, CNN.. report about how well he's loved.. not try and point out how he flies, when the others fly on personal jets. How ridiculous of you.

He got the $$ to fly first class from supporters like me. Soon we will give him enough for a private jet. Imagine that? A private jet acquired not from special interest money but solely through individual supporters.

Well, as I see it: He deserves it! Ron Paul, being the fiscal conservative that he is chooses to spend his money wisely and refrains from running his campaign "in debt". So, basically, he doesn't spend money foolishly in the first place. In my opinion, I wish more politicians thought like Ron Paul. If the founding fathers were alive today, they would vote for Ron Paul. After all, he's the only candidate that seems to remember what the constitution is all about!

    Go Ron Paul!

I work for an airline, flying first class doesn't mean squat. If you are a member of their elite, gold, platinum or whatever the airline designates it is easy to get first class as a perk. The advantage is you pay meager membership fee upfront for the perk. Sure he went first class but did he spend his money or the airlines?

So What...Dr. Paul flew first class...just shows that CNN and the rest of the MSM are on a campaign to try and make Dr. Paul look bad...with this article about his flying first class...yet no mention of Giuliani's or McCain's travel arrangements-most likely in private chartered flights or private tour buses...I can't wait until the voting starts...CNN, et al will fall all over themselves trying to explain how the "internet" candidate emerges as the front runner rather than their self anointed front runners...

There is a huge difference between someone who supports the free market and believes that someone who works hard is entitled to the fruits of their labor like Paul, and someone who advocates an egalitarian redistribution of wealth, let has multiple million dollar houses like John Edwards. Edwards is a hyprocrite, Paul contines to practice what he preaches.

Fantastic, CNN. I appreciate the inanity of your programming. Really, the state of public discourse is doing well with you watching over it.

How about you talk about his stance on the issues, or is that less relevant to his candidacy than what class he flies on an airline? Or how about his voting record as a congressman? You know, the one candidate with an unquestionably consistent voting record for the past ten years? It's too late for you to go back and give him equal representation in the debate. Why don't you talk about his stance on taxes? Or the War in Iraq? Or illegal immigration, perhaps?

Do your job. Report on the news. Report on what's relevant. I don't care what class he flies.

I am not sure what point is trying to be made. Why not mention that Ron Paul does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension at taxpayer's expense? Why not mention that he returns a portion of his annual budget to the treasury every year?

The fact that you even print this merely shows the Mainstream Media's despearation to find anything that could be perceived as negative about RP. You only strengthen our resolve to wake up the sheeple in this country.

Hah! Maybe the rest of those candidates should take some lessons from Ron Paul on good fiscal policy and they too could ride in 1st class!

If that's how he chooses to spend his money, it's his business. If I could afford it, I would fly first class too. Ron Paul has yet to take a penny of campaign funds from corporations. Ask the others where they get their money. He gives back a portion of his House salary to the treasury. How many of the others do that? He declines to participate in the government pension fund. How many of the others do that? Let him sit where he wants to.

Good for CNN for pointing this out. They know, and all of us know, exactly what it means. Four candidates bravely made the woeful sacrifice of sitting in coach with the lowly unwashed masses to prove how frugal and everyman they are, after paying their handlers big bucks to calculate whether it would make "exactly the right impression." Mr. Paul either didn't worry about it, decided to go strictly business as usual, or deliberately made a point of not trying to manipulate his image. I'm sure the other candidates and their "people" wasted a lot more time and money agonizing over exactly the right shade of tie for the debate than Mr. Paul did on deciding how to fly. Come on, they would have paid EXTRA to fly coach if they had to. So they sat with their knees in their mouths while Mr. Paul rode in comfort and dignity - and up front. Very intelligent. Very honest. Very presidential.

All the World is behind Ron Paul, including all of us 1.4 billion muslims. He is the only true candidate worthy to lead the republican party. We hope the American people can break the backs of the corporate media and find a way to elect him into power. It will make our lives much easier. Our enemies and the enemies of the American people are one and the same.

Could it be that Rep. Paul Has enough frequent flier points that he gets an upgrade? Perhaps your lame ass reporter might have asked that simple question.
I am sickened by the media's manipulation of this election. No wonder we wind up with worthless candidates.

Great investigative journalism CNN! If Ron Paul wants to use my campaign contribution to stretch his legs, have something to eat and try to get some sleep its fine by me.

Ron Paul is the class of the field and that includes both so-called parties. He is scaring the oil-soaked blood-stained mainstream media to death!

  179. Marc Farner

This is pretty lame as an exercise in opinion-shaping. Ron Paul's momentum continues to grow, as more people absorb his message. He is the true American, and not a sell-out like the other pretenders. Serve the People, CNN, or be left in the dust.

You have got to be kidding!?! Ron Paul flew first class? The world is ending! Give it a break, just because someone can pay the fare for first class passage doesn't mean they are up to anything dirty. If I could afford it, I'd fly first class, too.

Mr. Paul is well worthy of flying first class and since when did that become a concern of any news report, people are dieing left and right in Iraq and all over the World and you people waste the publics time with nonsense like that, get a life. Wow, Ron Paul is just like James Bond. Does he drive a Cadillac Cien? Go Ron!

After he disbands the IRS, maybe I might realize that dream , too.

What is up with you media stooges?

The American people love Ron Paul, he is my representative in congress as a matter of fact. I think all you phonys are scared to death by a true conservative, and constitutionalist.

I have donated hundreds of dollars to his campaign, and am not in the least upset by the "report" that he flew first class.

So its unamerican now to fly first class?
Was he caught sipping cognac instead of a coors beer? Does that make him an elitist?

CNN is desperate to get smear any candidate that isn't Romney or Guliani, doubly so because Paul is a legitimate threat to the Mad Mormon and Crossdressing Rudy. I guess corporate decided long ago who the viewers should vote for.

Is this REALLY news? Ron Paul's message has nothing to do with preventing people from achieving wealth. When Cheryl Crow demands that you use one square of toilet paper, she does it from her mansion. Al Gore asks that you drive a Yugo and Car Pool – while being limsuined to his private jet. Have you ever "Outed" Al Gore for using a Limosuine?

I'm sure all the "Other" candidates sitting in back had photographers back there with them. What a great publicity shot. Shows that they are "commoners"! CNN you continue to amaze me with your lack of REAL reporting skills. How about this one..."Ron Paul asks for EXTRA ketchup at McDonalds, while the other candidates had to eat dirt".

CNN is this all you can report about the leading candidate!!, how about some real issues like Constitutional Liberty, which there is an immense lack of in the mainstream. This deliberate smear campaign only shows the media's true backing, it is truly disgusting. All I can say, wow.

    June 11, 2007 01:26 pm at 1:26 pm |
  205. Matt, Brownstown, MI

Instead of trying to slam him for something as trivial as this, why not cover something important about him like the message he's bringing to America? This seems very petty.

    June 11, 2007 02:02 pm at 2:02 pm |
  206. SK, Orlando, FL

So what's your point? Is this your idea of a smear tactic? People who believe in individual liberty do not play class warfare - on the contrary, they admire and support those who have legitmately gained success for themselves! Ron Paul is first class all the way and has my vote no matter what seat he flies in!!!

    June 11, 2007 02:16 pm at 2:16 pm |
  207. Todd Whiting, san dimas CA

Any candidate with a VOTING RECORD that looks like this has my permission to fly first class.
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

It is amazing how you ignore Ron Paul generally but you are able to find something as trivial as flying 1st class vs coach to smear him about. Ron Paul is a first class candidate who deserves to fly first class.

    June 11, 2007 03:12 pm at 3:12 pm |
  210. Kevin, The Big Apple, NY

CNN... And yet, another cheap and irrelevant shot at Dr. Paul. Did you check Dr. Paul's ticket for this insightful report? Did you ever think that because the man has flown constantly he might be entitled to an upgrade to first class? Who gives a crap if he flew first class, were you paying for it? Is this brainless blurb to show that Dr. Paul is an elitist because he flies first class? How stupid! You folks just continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel and are closely earning the title to your new name: CNN – Contains No News. Get with it.

What kind of journalism is this, CNN? Why don't you find a better use of our time, like exploring the actual positions of the candidates, or how the media is trying to pretend that Dr. Paul is a 'gadfly' when in fact he's the only candidate of *any* integrity and truthfulness.

  218. H Mahmoud, Richmond, VA

CNN can try to pretend Ron Paul is a long shot all they want. All I know is that for the first time in my life I am considering casting a vote for a Republican. And I consider myself pretty liberal. But on the most pressing issues - foreign policy, upholding the Constitution, etc. Ron Paul is the only one (who actually has a chance of getting a nomination from either party) I could trust to do the right thing. I never thought I'd ever vote Republican - but I know a vote for Obama or Clinton would be a sham since they don't seem to mind the status quo.

CNN is just showing its hand by trying too hard. I think it will actually work in Ron Paul's favor. After all, if defenders of the status quo dislike him this much - he has got to be the real deal.

Unbelievable that CNN would think this is worthy of the time to type it. I work with guys who fly all the time and fly 1st because THEY GET UPGRADED! Either way, he's the only one of this bunch who gives part of his congressional budget BACK EVERY YEAR! Who fiscally conservative and who not? Why not ask that question!

    June 11, 2007 04:59 pm at 4:59 pm |

Ron Paul has made enough money that he can afford to fly however he wishes.

He is the only 'first class' candidate we have!
He is keeping up with his duties in the Congress as well as campaigning so anything that makes him comfortable is alright with me!

And who is to say that he is not paying for these flights out of pocket? We're not talking millions here...as some of the D's have spent so far!

I think CNN is just running little stories with Ron Pauls name in the story to see how many responses they will get. Maybe they will realize that covering Dr Paul will draw a large audience because he tells the truth. Please vote in primaries. A liberal for Ron Paul

Who cares! I do not see any reference to "el Duce" Giuliani, "$400 haircut" Edwards, or any of the other so called "front runners" and their true lavish spending on themselves from their campaign finds! CNN should report the NEWS, not show your lame bias. GO RON PAUL!

    I agree, H Mahmoud.
Why would anybody waste time going after the man if his views have no merit?
In truth, Ron Paul speaks truth instead of manipulating the public for personal gain.

Oh yes forgot to add, you do get upgraded if you fly a lot, but you also can spend more money when your contributions have more than quadrupled!

CNN has a tendency to spin by leaving out information such as their publication of the ONE photo of the rally goers. It COMPLETELY cut out about 250 sign holders for Ron, when he had more supporters present than any other candidate! The press also were invited to the after-party where 300-400 people broke code laws in one bar just to see Ron. Most of you have seen the videos of that I'm sure. Yet, no coverage! Thank God for YouTube! CNN can no longer control who sees what.

The owner said even Obama's party, held there, was not as good.

RP's got my OK to spend campaign cash–yes, I contributed–on seat upgrades. You ever fly coach on AmWest/USAir? Yuck. Anyway, what if his frequent flyer status gave him an automatic upgrade?

At least he isn't flying a private jet.

This does not bother me, sounds like part of my contribution to his campaign has gone to good use, and planning to contribute more.. This man cannot be bought by lobbies, that alone should make you think,... oh...that's right, we are not supposed to to think any more, my bad. Try to create some some lame smear CNN and see what happens, back in your face....Idiots..

"To confirm this report, FMNN called sources close to the Gilmore campaign. These sources indicated that Jim Gilmore – who always flies coach – had indeed been "bumped up" to first class. He may in fact have been seated in front of Ron Paul, as FMNN feedbacker Dave indicates.

CNN seems to owe viewers a clarification. "

I don't think CNN hates Ron Paul, I think they hate the fact that the Internet is making the old media distribution system obsolete.

10 years ago Ron Paul would simply not have a voice because CNN could just ignore him. But Ron Paul is a greased pig in an increasingly relevant series of tubes.

Wow... now this is just unforgivable. The one candidate who ISN'T in the pocket of special interests, the mob, or psychotic government worshiping "patriots" is bad because he spends his OWN money on a first class ticket.

As others have said, if this is the worst you can really come up with to smear Dr. Paul you'll have to resort to fiction soon enough.

First of all, this is a stupid story.

Maybe he got an upgrade as a frequent flyer?

Besides, what about our American politicos who just attended the secretive Bilderberg meeting in Istanbul? Will they give the American people an accounting of what they spent there? Why don't you CNN investigative goofs do a story on that?

Ron Paul flew first class. He needs to rest after explaining thousands of times to brain-dead Americans what it really means to have a Constitutional Republic. This requires some thinking on his part as to how to explain it to a populace dumbed-down by public-school education and delivered over to the mind-numbing platitudes of the other candidates. It takes energy to teach the ABCs to adults. Rest, Ron Paul, rest. You have a lot of traveling to do across this country. I am sending you another contribution so you can continue to fly first class and conserve your energy.

Are you kidding me CNN? Is this the best you can do? There are already attempts to link him to Ed & Elaine Brown, and you keep spinning Dr. Paul's performances in the debates as "unscientific". We already know that it is you, the media, that chooses for us whom we will vote for. That is why we, supporters of Ron Paul, have been so relentless in calling you, the media, out in your dimwitted attempts to smear he who would be the next President of the U.S., if you would just let the people have their say. But we also know that you are scared to death if the actual rule of law was enforced against those in high places who break those laws, because that would include you, the media, in perpetuating the lies of the current war in Iraq. So uh, yeah, good luck with that. Tell Wolf I said "hi", I'm sure he will try to spin Dr. Paul as a holocaust denier at some point...

I see what the problem is! Presidential candidates, all of whom are rich enough to buy a fleet of private jets, are expected to pretend, that they are ornery middle-class folks like you and me!

Sorry CNN, in case you didn't notice, Ron Paul don't go for humbug much. If he can afford to fly first class he does. He isn't ashamed of his right to the pursuit of happiness.

Within a June of 2004 USA Today article, it says that the Air Force estimates the cost per hour of operating Air Force One is 56,800 dollars. When the President takes trivial trips abroad to countries such as Albania, his trip is financed by the taxpayer. Do the math and the amount adds up. But CNN tells us that this is irrelevant, we should be irate when the only logical choice for President in 2008 spends an extra hundred dollars of his own money(which is not coercively taken) on an airline ticket.

Ron Paul flies first class - what does it mean? A few possibilities:

    1. Frequent travel/free upgrade, no big deal.

    2. He's a doctor and a Congressman, so he can afford to fly first class if he wants to.

    3. He's raising a lot more money than Huckabee, Brownback, Gilmore, and Duncan, so it's not surprising that he can afford better seats.

    4. He had knee surgery a while ago (which is why he wears sneakers with his suits.) Maybe he needs the extra leg room.

You know CNN, I gave you the benefit of the doubt when you practically shut Ron out of the debate and when you censored his supporters after the debate. However, this time you are absolutely transparent and pathetic. Why would you post a misleading article like this when you know the guy flies out of his own pocket, unlike your chosen ones.

  255. Joe Osborne, Denver Colorado

If Ron Paul can afford to sit in first class then so be it. I have read that his Presidential contributions have at least doubled since the second debate.

Ron Paul has new ideas and a great message overall and that is what voters want. Maybe, Ron Paul flying in first class is a reflection of that trend. It might also be wise for the other candidates to fly coach and save their money. Since Ron Paul is on a roll they are going to need all the money they can get! Ron Paul definately has my vote!

  256. Rudy G, New York, NY

IHateRonPaul.com – he gets to sit in first class. Heck...if Thomas Jefferson or Patrick Henry were flying on that plane, I'd put him in first class too. A first class act deserves a first class seat.

How shameful. A transparent class-war comment made about the most frugal and liberty loving candidate of them all. CNN should be embarrassed to have actually posted such a story. To claim that Ron Paul is improperly spending his money is laughable given the spending habits of other candidates. This is the kind of low brow stuff I would not expect form a top tier news organization.

after CNN's atrocious censorship of Ron Paul during and after the debate i have boycott the network and informed everyone i know that even pays attention to the news to do the same. This is the first news i have heard from CNN since doing so and to call this story 'laughable' is too high of an accord.

If I had to put in as much flying as this guy does, explaining the ideas of freedom and resonsibility, I'd fly first class too. Unlike the other candidates, Ron Paul doesn't get much in the way corp donations or private jets. I wonder why?

Gimme a break CNN!!! If you guys are serious about the news or, for that matter, the future of this country you would know that Ron Paul has been one of the lone voices in Congress since 1976 to speak out against the waste, abuses, incompetence and absurdities within this government. He has saved taxpayers for more money than any other Congressman and he probably paid for that first class seat himself. Whose business is it anyway if he did fly first class. Why don't you guys still to the important issues that face this country? My God, we face so many threats, most of which Dr. Paul warned against back in his speech to the House on Sept. 19th, 1984. Do your home work and then report the Truth about Dr. Paul to the citizens of this rapidly fading Republic which has suffered at the hands of the inept Republicans and Democrats for far too long.

    What about Jim Gilmore?

    He flew first class too.

Not that it matters, but if CNN doesn't "clarify" its story, then how can we trust anything they report?

Rep. Paul uses his frequent flyer miles to upgrade. Big Deal.

Isn't that part of the reason why the airlines give them away?

This is nothing but a lame attempt to smear the only worthy candidate in the race.

The only question left to ask is why?

I wonder how Paris is doing. Let me turn to CNN to find out. CNN, all Paris, all the time.

If this article were accurate, I would agree with the rest of the commenters that even posting the article is pathetic and lame. But the story isn't even correct – Jim Gilmore also flew first class after the debate. At least get your pointless gossip correct! http://www.freemarketnews.com/WorldNews.asp?nid=43506
Not that it matters in the first place. The bigger question is why haven't the mainstream media at least covered the fact that Dr. Paul's campaign is the most significant grassroots effort since Ross Perot? America loves underdogs, and you would think that angle would be newsworthy. There isn't much else to discuss about the Republicans. I don't understand how every other Republican candidate can support the war and actually think they stand a chance at getting elected.

so is your next article going to tell us how the other 5 candidates got home? i bet giuliani would get disowned if people found out he had lowered himself enough to fly first class.

How distorted can you get in your news reporting CNN? This article is extremely biased, innaccurate, and leaves out related information (like how Rudy Ghouliani flew on a corporate sponsored jet, but only paid first class price instead of the $9000 cost).

What has happened to reporting unbiased informative news? Articles like this illustrate how far old media has strayed down the path of propaganda and corruption.

Well, that's it for me. I'm removing CNN from my bookmarks and replacing it with freemarket news.com. CNN has become (or always has been?) as bad as FOX at warping news into entertainment (Actually, 60 Minutes started the trend back in the '70s). It's all blathering pundits, spin, and political football with no attention to the issues that would help Americans understand their world, be a part of it, and make a difference.

No thanks CNN, I'll go to E! Online or The Hollywood Reporter for entertainment.

CNN is really getting sad. I hope they choose to make some kind of clarifying statement about why Ron Paul is a totally irrelevant long shot candidate, but why it's somehow important that he flew first class...

Nevermind that CNN lied about him being the only one.

Nevermind that Clinton, Edwards, Obama, McCaine, Giuliani, and Romney all flew on Private Jets...

Nevermind that Ron Paul used his frequent flyer status to upgrade to first class.

Nevermind that nobody would care if he was "rich" anyway. Never mind that he has proven over and over again that money is not why he's in politics (he takes the LEAST money from special interest groups in the ENTIRE congress)...

    CNN is really plummeting...

So why focus on Doctor Ron Paul flying on a commercial flight in first class? Why is there no mention that Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, John Edwards, Christopher Dodd, John McCain and Barack Obama have all been using corporate jets to flit around the country. This causes an obvious conflict of interests and gives the opportunity for corporate interests to easily gain favor with future Presidents.
