Ten GOP candidates squared off Tuesday night.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Seen on board the 6 a.m. US Airways flight 1159 from Manchester, New Hampshire to Washington: No less than five GOP presidential candidates: Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, former Virginia Gov. James Gilmore, and Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas.

Four of the five candidates sat in coach.

The lucky candidate who flew first class? Ron Paul.

The candidates were all flying back after facing off Tuesday night in a spirited debate in Manchester, New Hampshire, sponsored by CNN, WMUR-TV, and the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Steve. S., Ont. Canada   June 6th, 2007 4:47 pm ET

The only candidate worthy of flying first class is Dr. Ron Paul! The other candidats need to sit in coach in order to get in touch with the American people. Ron Paul is already there. All you have to do is look at your own CNN polls to see that!

Daniel, Cape Girardeau, Missouri   June 6th, 2007 5:35 pm ET

Good for him. After arguing with the other blind candidates, he needs to relax and take it easy. RON PAUL IS THE HOPE FOR AMERICA!!

L. Brown   June 6th, 2007 5:43 pm ET

Well it doesn't surprise me that Ron Paul flew first class because he's the only "first class" republican candidate.

Carl Darby   June 6th, 2007 5:43 pm ET

Not too surprising. Of all of the candidates listed he is the only one that has any class.

Anthony Kurczewski, Ringwood, NJ   June 6th, 2007 5:44 pm ET

Ron Paul is something Americans haven't seen in a very long time. A Statesman, and an honest public servant.
He walks the walk of a true leader and patriot.
Check his record, then go to 'you tube' and see his clips.

San Juan, PR   June 6th, 2007 5:55 pm ET

I'm very proud of Ron Paul's true patriotism. In times of deceit, Ron Pauls talks about the truth that others doesn't even dare to mention. He is most def. the people's candidate. Finally i see HOPE in politics.

Anonymous   June 6th, 2007 5:55 pm ET

he was a doctor hes got the cash.

Ell Small, Houston TX   June 6th, 2007 5:59 pm ET

Are you kidding me? This is the best smear you can come up with against Dr Paul? Pathetic.

Kurt, Snook Texas   June 6th, 2007 6:08 pm ET

When you don’t fly private, corporate, special interest or PAC Jets, you have to fly on the commercial flights. When you do that all the time, like Ron Paul, you accumulate Frequent Flyer Miles. When you have enough you get free bumps to first class. Maybe Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, James Gilmore, Sam Brownback should fly commercial more often.. That is the worst you can find on Ron Paul…. Being Frugal and getting rewarded for it.. Please..

Sam, Illinois   June 6th, 2007 6:10 pm ET

So, does it really matter?

dlstreifel, vancouver, wash   June 6th, 2007 6:11 pm ET

so what's your point?

Rick Ryles Kansas City Kansas   June 6th, 2007 6:12 pm ET

Why is this a story? Why does it matter? Anyone making even decent mnoney can afford sitting first class. Are you insinuating it would be wrong for me to buy a mustang over a taurus?

Nick Birmingham, AL   June 6th, 2007 6:25 pm ET

Um, Ok. This story is significant why? Seems like Paul is the only smart guy out of the five. Why fly coach when you can fly first class. What a weird story.

JC Braithwaite   June 6th, 2007 6:35 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only Republican with any new ideas and who has a track record for upholding The Constitution…. you know that thing that our country was founded on?

If I were an airline employee Ron Paul is the only candidate that would deserve an upgrade!

All of his amazing points of views and fact based arguments and this tidbit is all CNN will report on?

Mike Rouse, Jacksonville, OR   June 6th, 2007 6:41 pm ET

What about the five other candidates? It would be interesting to see how many private jets there were, especially those provided by corporate "friends" for the price of a first-class ticket.

Karon Fair Oaks, CA   June 6th, 2007 7:05 pm ET

Ron Paul won the Debate. "When the people fear the government it is called Tryanny." When the government fear the people it is called Liberty!"

Ryan C., Austin, TX   June 6th, 2007 7:05 pm ET

Ok… cool?

Ron Paul supports free markets — good thing he supports private airline companies.

Jay, Fairfield CA   June 6th, 2007 7:07 pm ET

I donated money to his campaign so he can fly first class. If I could afford one, I would have him fly on a private jet.

CNN, why don't you write articles on how many top-tier candidates fly on corporate chartered jets?

Kyle, Houston TX   June 6th, 2007 7:10 pm ET

Yawn. Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani flies on a private jet.

Kandice, Norfolk VA   June 6th, 2007 7:14 pm ET

That's weird. Maybe he's been getting a lot of donations lately?

Nathan, Scottsdale, AZ   June 6th, 2007 7:14 pm ET

Guess that makes him Tier 1.5

Thor, Breckenridge, CO   June 6th, 2007 7:18 pm ET

How did the others fly?

Ted, Dayton OH   June 6th, 2007 7:19 pm ET

Lets attack a guy for flying first class while ignoring Hillary Clinton's ride on a corporate jet!! Whooo, rack another win up for CNN!!

Ian Johanson, Elkhart Lake, WI   June 6th, 2007 7:20 pm ET

So what? I guess whether a candidate flies first class or coach is more important than whether they support nuclear first strikes against countries that haven't attacked us, or not. Next hot CNN Topic of National Importance: how much their haircuts cost - stay tuned.

Max Vowel II, Edmond, OK   June 6th, 2007 7:20 pm ET

Hmm… And which of the candidates fly in private jets?

Dave, Pensacola FL   June 6th, 2007 7:23 pm ET

Wow, CNN finally gives Dr. Paul some coverage (after removing the viewer comments because they were pro Paul) and of course its negative.

Why should anyone pay attention to his convictions and vote in congress when they can just as easily focus on whether he flies first class or not!

Theo Roth, Birmingham AL   June 6th, 2007 7:23 pm ET

And Giuliani had a private jet. Who cares?

Marianne, Excelsior MN   June 6th, 2007 7:28 pm ET

Is this a serious post? No mention of which candidates fly in private jets?

Colin, Seattle WA   June 6th, 2007 7:28 pm ET

Could this be an early sign from God that Paul is now a Tier 1 candidate?

Kind of like Rudy almost getting struck by lighting while talking might be a sign for him to shut up and go back to consulting for the Saudi family and Newscorp.

jeff omaha NE   June 6th, 2007 7:31 pm ET

Why doesn't the article mention that most canidates travel on private jets?

Damon, Salt Lake City, Utah   June 6th, 2007 7:33 pm ET

Better then just flapping his arms like wings. Seriously, is this news? I am sure the others have flown first class or private jets. I also would bet that Ron Paul paid for his transportation.

Nancy, Austin Texas   June 6th, 2007 7:33 pm ET

That's because Ron Paul IS first class.

Eric, Anderson, South Carolina   June 6th, 2007 7:38 pm ET

Maybe the booking agent was a supporter?

Being the only candidate to speak the truth can have it's perks.

I doubt that Ron Paul would use campaign donations to upgrade to 1st class, either he has a ton of frequent flier miles or someone at UA likes him better than the other guys.

eb

Brian, Bennington VT   June 6th, 2007 7:38 pm ET

What candidate got the second least speaking time in the CNN debate last night?

Ron Paul.

The first time I posted this, CNN refused to post it in this thread. You know, because the thread is so cluttered with its 4 posts and everything.

Kurt from Pittsburgh   June 6th, 2007 7:38 pm ET

I have no problem with this. CNN's reporting practices have been shady. They clearly tried to ice Dr. Paul out of the debate last night. CNN Should be ashamed, and then running this unfounded story? Someone saw him in first class? I could say anything. "Someone saw Rudy crossdressing again." Oh wait, that actually happened.

Nancy, Austin Texas   June 6th, 2007 7:38 pm ET

It's called free "first class upgrades". The airlines give them to you for free if you are a frequent flier, which Dr. Paul most certainly is.

Dustin Dollar Moore, OK   June 6th, 2007 7:39 pm ET

Thanks for sharing that because it only makes you look bad CNN. Not Ron Paul

Jonathan, Folsom CA   June 6th, 2007 7:40 pm ET

Being that Dr. Paul has never taken a paid junket, I'm sure he racks up a lot of commercial frequent flyer miles. So, why wouldn't he be in first class?

Jen, Chicago Il.   June 6th, 2007 7:41 pm ET

Awesome. I upgrade every chance I get.

JIm, Old Lyme, CT   June 6th, 2007 7:41 pm ET

The real issue is did he pay extra for that first class seat? Anyone with any time on commercial carriers doesn't pay for a first class seat while travelling within the US.

Joy Henry, Stanford, CA   June 6th, 2007 7:44 pm ET

This is ridiculous. What is this supposed to insinuate? That Ron Paul isn't the "everyman" that these other candidates are? Ron Paul is the only one with millions of dollars from corporate backers. Let's be reasonable here, CNN.

Darren Tapp, West Lafayette IN   June 6th, 2007 7:46 pm ET

I think Ron Paul did very well.

Michael R. Conder   June 6th, 2007 7:47 pm ET

Might I add that the good doctor does not participate in the Congressional pension program meaning his retirement is not going to be finance by the American tax payer, so I think we can forgive him. Who knows, mabey he got a deal on priceline?

Michael R. Conder   June 6th, 2007 7:53 pm ET

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIP…itroom.02.html

A hundred thousand dollars, a private jet, not bad for a single speech. And that's just what some likely Republican presidential candidate — in this particular case, Rudy Giuliani — commands right now.

And to find out how the rest of the "first tier" travel…
http://www.wtop.com/?nid=213&sid=1133541

Joy Henry, Stanford, CA   June 6th, 2007 7:54 pm ET

Correction.

Ron Paul is the only one WITHOUT millions of dollars form corporate backers.

Let's be real here, CNN.

Don, Kenosha, WI   June 6th, 2007 7:55 pm ET

I think CNN wants to paint Ron Paul as "out of touch" so they won't have to deal with him anymore. Of course, anyone who has a personal jet would be more out-of-touch with the common man, right? But let's not say that–that's influencing the voters in a way that CNN doesn't want.

It's sick when a news agency has to attempt to marginalize someone like that.

Eddie, Statesboro GA   June 6th, 2007 7:57 pm ET

WHO CARES? Is that all you got? I'd rather talk about whos winning most of the online polls…rather talk about why that man is not getting the air time like the rest? Giuliani takes a private jet and this is what you print? RP 2008 get with the program

Will - Miami, FL   June 6th, 2007 8:07 pm ET

They "forget" to mention that his office RETURNS money every year, that he has always voted AGAINST congressional pay raises, and that he has NEVER taken a junket.

Big harry deal that he uses his own money to fly in a comfortable seat.

R.D. , Indianapolis, IN   June 6th, 2007 8:09 pm ET

Oh no not first class!!! How terrible of him to spring for a decent seat. Why should a man in his seventies spend his hard earned doctor's money on a comfortable roomy seat while us commoners read about it on the internets and hunger for better times when we might be able to afford a commercial flight! Obviously, he should've taken a Greyhound instead.

Susan Bell, Bloomington IL.   June 6th, 2007 8:10 pm ET

I think Ron Paul stands out from the crowd. His obedience and respect for the costitution is what this country needs.

Ronny, Modesto, CA   June 6th, 2007 8:15 pm ET

So Ron Paul flew first class…big deal. (1.) He WAS a doctor and (2.) Its like making a big deal when someone who is poor treats themselves to a Six Dollar Burger at Carls Jr. Whats life all about if you can't treat yourself well once in a while? Write articles about the issues and not petty things like this. Otherwise, I will start putting up posts how I eat ramen for lunch because CA cost of living is out of control thanks to big government. Jeez!

Ron Paul 2008!

Polly Tickle   June 6th, 2007 8:16 pm ET

That's OK, when he's President, he'll be flying in a nice 747, that I, for once in my life, will be happy to help provide for him.

Dave, Pensacola FL   June 6th, 2007 8:17 pm ET

Why was my comment removed? CNN gives Dr. Paul some negative coverage after removing the viewer comments that were very pro-paul.

We also know that CNN ordered everyone to not mention Paul, and "ice" him so he wouldn't get noticed.

R Swanson   June 6th, 2007 8:19 pm ET

Looks like US Airways are also Ron Paul supporters and they bumped him up to first class.

Joshua Richards, Suffolk VA   June 6th, 2007 8:20 pm ET

I know alot of self made men (i.e. Medical Doctors) who prefer to fly first class.

I'm extremely middle class, and I've been more than happy to pay the 200-300 fee to upgrade my ticket on long business trips.

It seems to me that to choose to fly back with the "common people" is simple posing.

Jerry Ellebell, GA   June 6th, 2007 8:22 pm ET

Giuliani took a private jet..LOL. Personally I'd truely like to hear more about the man…besides were he chooses to sit on airplanes. I've looked into the man and like what he has to say. Too bad he dosesn't get alot of press, dispite ALOT of public support.

Editor   June 6th, 2007 8:22 pm ET

It's fitting for Ron Paul to be in first class. He's a maverick among the GOP'ers. He's the only one who will get government off our backs and reinstate the Constitution…

Scott McDonnell, MI   June 6th, 2007 8:25 pm ET

Which candidate WORKS harder than any of others in thier personal and political careers?

Which candidate actually believes in the law of the land?

Which candidate IS first class?

Ron Paul.

Brandy Charleston SC   June 6th, 2007 8:27 pm ET

Most everyone loves the man…except the media

Jack, New York, NY   June 6th, 2007 8:35 pm ET

he should fly first clas, he won the debate even though you guys took down your own blog page about the winner!

Nathanael, Seoul Korea   June 6th, 2007 8:45 pm ET

I wish I could afford to fly first class.

Maybe if Ron Paul were president, I could.

Matt, Mobile, AL   June 6th, 2007 8:54 pm ET

CNN: always covering the important things about politics. Who flies first class? CNN's got it. What do you think GWB should do in your cabinet? CNN has got the answer. Should gays serve openly in the military? Got it. Why does Bin Laden hate us? Sorry. Will you balance the budget? Nope.

Connie, Reading, PA   June 6th, 2007 9:05 pm ET

And that is important why??? You are not gonna tell me the rest flew coach - that would be a lie!!

James Kong, Los Angeles, CA   June 6th, 2007 9:15 pm ET

He’s the only first class candidate out there anyway. The rest are just a bunch of suits. Meanwhile, the top 3 are those that the Commy News Network supports and has a clear bias towards.

Liberty Silver   June 6th, 2007 9:15 pm ET

He deserves it. He's first class all the way :).

Jacob Willmester   June 6th, 2007 9:23 pm ET

"He is the only one to fly first class"

Probably because he is the only first class candidate.

(And refuses to accept bribes like flying on corporate planes)

Jacob Bofferding, Minneapolis MN   June 6th, 2007 9:31 pm ET

How is this news worthly? Perhaps you could write about how Ron Paul differs on the ISSUES with other Republicans rather than flight preference. Because when it comes to the things that matter, CNN likes to pretend Mr. Paul does not exist.

Brian, Monroe, Ohio   June 6th, 2007 9:32 pm ET

Wow, I didnt realize CNN even knew Ron Paul was in the running. CNN's next story should be about how badly Ron Paul has beaten every candidate in post debate polls from the American people. It's funny how everyone knows how bad the Fox news slant is, but it seems they are all together when it comes to trying to smear Ron Paul. Ron Paul is growing bigger every hour of every day. Don't believe the corporate media, Ron Paul is very popular and only gets more popular when he opens his mouth and the truth spills out. American is "The Home of the Brave." Being scared is un-American. Be a Patriot, support Ron Paul.

Jon Hendry, Cambridge, MA   June 6th, 2007 9:33 pm ET

The others, no doubt flew on corporate jets provided by donor companies or lobbyists, with their sizable entourages.

You buried the lede!

Sammy, Princeton, NJ   June 6th, 2007 9:36 pm ET

Is this detail honestly important, at all? The guy can choose to fly in first class if he so chooses. It's not like hes flying in a private Jet (Giuliani). This is yet another attempt by the media to slander Ron Paul.

James, Gainesville, Texas   June 6th, 2007 9:44 pm ET

Wow, I hope CNN is enjoying those kickbacks for smearing Ron Paul. How about worrying about more important things? Like how the rest of the candidates want to run around torturing everyone?

Anonymous   June 6th, 2007 10:08 pm ET

Why is this news/politically relevant?

Patriot, CNN Sucks, State of Freedom   June 6th, 2007 10:15 pm ET

Well this is a stupid and pointless post.

Gee lets see which one of the lower funded candidates flied first class while not paying attention to the filthy rich ones who probably flew out in a private jet with their fake smiling face painted on the side.

Kronber, Omaha, NE   June 6th, 2007 10:20 pm ET

wow…. so by quoting what Ron Paul says and does, the news media (FOX, CNN…whoever) is committing slander??

I guess I'm confused, cause that sounds like reporting the news to me.

Mike Bellman, Columbia, MO   June 6th, 2007 10:24 pm ET

I am glad that they noticed Ron Paul on a plane I hope soon that they'll notice him on STAGE. Stop the censorship and bring honesty back to the political process.

Anish, Chattanooga, TN   June 6th, 2007 10:28 pm ET

Ron Paul was the best.

P Richie, Cleveland,OH   June 6th, 2007 10:50 pm ET

You have got to be kidding. A plane ride versus blatant corruption. OH wait I saw the debate. I forgot CNN is corrupt to.
Ron Paul for President. Even if he has a better travel agent.

P. Richie

William; Nashville, TN   June 6th, 2007 11:02 pm ET

This matters why? Frankly, if he in fact does fly home on most weekends as another person claimed in another comment, he's probably racked up enough frequent flier miles since he returned to Congress in 1998 to get free upgrades for life. So, why not use 'em, especially after listening to Wolf Blitzer and the Establishment Talking Heads for two hours?

CNN, in two days, you have apparently lost whatever journalistic integrity you've ever had.

John, Jericho Vermont   June 6th, 2007 11:08 pm ET

Great job CNN! Please keep providing us with these invaluable gems of journalistic reporting!

Mike, San Antonio TX   June 6th, 2007 11:14 pm ET

Unlike the other candidated I'm sure, Ron Paul RETURNS part of his congressional budget each year, and unlike the other candidates Ron Paul DOES NOT participate in the lucrative congressional pension program. As others said this is really the worst dirt you have?Maybe he got a seat upgrade, maybe coach was full…

Tim, Detroit Mi.   June 6th, 2007 11:14 pm ET

CNN thinks it is bad that he flew first class? I wonder how CNN and the mainsttream media will feel when he is flying Air Force One? Because if there is any Justice and Democracy left in this Country, that is excatly how he will be flying beginning in January 2009!

Ron Paul is officially Top Tier and will deliver his message First Class all the way to the White House and beyond!

Cameron   June 6th, 2007 11:16 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only Presidential candidate with any class, I'm glad he got to fly first class. CNN should be ashamed of itself, hyping and helping clowns like Romney, Giuliani, and McCain. No one else in the GOP would make a good President, even. Ron Paul will be a GREAT President. Funny how you can run a story on this, and not mention how he smoked everyone else in your online poll.

cesarz   June 6th, 2007 11:17 pm ET

OK Ron Paul flew first Class. does this disqualify him from presidency?
What a bunch of bull crap.

he should fly first class because he is a first class person.

Ian D. Eastham MA   June 7th, 2007 12:08 am ET

I'm not going to watch or read CNN if they don't start covering Ron Paul!

Paul, Boone NC   June 7th, 2007 1:03 am ET

The other guys had to sit in coach because they don't have THOUSANDS of PASSIONATE supporters who have donated MILLIONS of dollars to their campaigns.

First Class Seating is for First Class Candidates

Anonymous   June 7th, 2007 1:06 am ET

CNN "ICED" RON PAUL IN THE DEBATE. MEDIA CENSORSHIP SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED.

Anonymous   June 7th, 2007 2:34 am ET

What a crook! Shows what kind of waste Ron Paul has in store for this country. This guy is two-faced. He goes on and on about less government spending while increasing spending on himself. Looks like more of the same from Ron Paul.

Kyle, Portland Oregon   June 7th, 2007 3:27 am ET

A1 reporting there, that is some real important stuff.

If Ron was on my flight I would gladly give up my first class ticket for him, maybe you could write about that.

Megan, Dallas TX   June 7th, 2007 3:51 am ET

As Americans the reporters need to report and stop trying to make news. This is not news this is sad and pathetic. This makes me sick to my stomach that cnn would stoop to this level. He was on a commercial flight and wasn't flying on a private jet. He is also not an environmentalist he is smart older doctor. People who moderate this aren't you just a little embarrassed by this article? Have some journalistic pride or at least American pride.

Mike, Dayton, OH   June 7th, 2007 8:01 am ET

I love how people below are asking "why does this matter?" It's funny because is Sen. Clinton or any other dem. did that, they'd be all over it.

Deborah Mears   June 7th, 2007 8:12 am ET

So what? Do we live in a socialist country now? Ron Paul can sit wherever he wants to just like every other American.

Jeff Skjelver, Rugby ND   June 7th, 2007 9:00 am ET

Well, good for him. I support his candidacy. If other Republicans are wise, they will as well. If not, we can look forward to a Democrat occupying the White House in 2009.

DJ   June 7th, 2007 10:20 am ET

HAHAHA These posts are awesome. I can't really add anything that hasn't been said. Why not do a story on Giuliani making 50 million dollars of 911? Wouldn't that be more news worthy?

Ben   June 7th, 2007 11:03 am ET

Ridiculous article. I actually got vertigo from the spin. What can we do here? Obviously, we should be more selective about our news sites (is that going to get me deleted here?). What else can we do? Money talks, so donating to his campaign will certainly help. He needs money to get his name out there because the 'unbiased' media won't help. Please donate. A google search will bring you to the proper site.

Wow! What an important observation. What's your point?

The only 1st class candidate deserves a 1st class seat. Good for him, I say!

Aaron, Seoul, Korea   June 7th, 2007 1:46 pm ET

When you fly coach a lot you get frequent flyer upgrades. Do the others fly normal flights or ride corporate jets. Four of the five candidates, rode coach. There are ten candidates. Why wasn't the method of travel of those five mentioned?

Micah, Riverton, Utah   June 7th, 2007 2:02 pm ET

How much will it take for mainstream media to realize the Ron Paul Revolution is real?

Just accept it!!!!

John Port St. Lucie Florida   June 7th, 2007 2:35 pm ET

Good for Dr.Paul
He's a statesman and a man of honor. Rather than running a fluff story to paint him in a bad light, maybe you should run a story on why he's so different than the other candidates. This is about choosing a President, not who's best dressed, flies first class, etc, etc…

Gary Krichbaum, Fishersville VA   June 7th, 2007 3:19 pm ET

If I didn't already know how screwed up the media is, I'd think this was a joke. My response…SO WHAT!?

Like has been said, I don't have a problem with Ron Paul flying first class…he IS first class when it comes to presidential candidates. The man deserves a little comfort while travelling the country campaigning.

Give me break CNN.

Greg, Grand Rapids MI   June 7th, 2007 4:00 pm ET

Everytime you try and smear this good man it backfires and people recognize his good nature. You are all a bunch of idiots.

Kelly Hatch, Concrete, WA.   June 7th, 2007 4:27 pm ET

Ron Paul kicked ALL their butts! CNN is a tool for Rockefeller for rigging the event to give Ron Paul only 6 min of time to speak.

CNN is a tool for Rockefeller for avoiding only Ron Paul on the Health Care question. He was the ONLY MEDICAL DOCTOR ON THE STAGE! No one up there was more qualified to answer that question.

Tyler, Knoxville TN   June 7th, 2007 4:36 pm ET

Rofl, I love it!

Look at the support for Ron Paul! He's the only presidential candidate that is worthy of being the President of the United States and the People of this country know it!

Please, CNN.. report about how well he's loved.. not try and point out how he flies, when the others fly on personal jets. How ridiculous of you.

Michael, Kingston, NY   June 7th, 2007 5:16 pm ET

He got the $$ to fly first class from supporters like me. Soon we will give him enough for a private jet. Imagine that? A private jet acquired not from special interest money but solely through individual supporters.

Mark, Wappingers Falls, NY   June 7th, 2007 6:24 pm ET

Good he deserves to fly first class. He's a true American and this countries only hope.

Ken Benway St Petersburg Fl   June 7th, 2007 7:01 pm ET

Come on guys give poor CNN a break. At least they are letting us vent, or maybe they just havn't discovered the response yet.
Only time will tell.
Let's see if they restore the link to the comments from Tuesdays Circus Side Show.
Ron Paul, I love ya man!

Karen Sutton, Beaverton, Oregon   June 7th, 2007 7:38 pm ET

Well, as I see it: He deserves it! Ron Paul, being the fiscal conservative that he is chooses to spend his money wisely and refrains from running his campaign "in debt". So, basically, he doesn't spend money foolishly in the first place. In my opinion, I wish more politicians thought like Ron Paul. If the founding fathers were alive today, they would vote for Ron Paul. After all, he's the only candidate that seems to remember what the constitution is all about!

Go Ron Paul!

david, memphis, tennessee   June 7th, 2007 9:33 pm ET

I work for an airline, flying first class doesn't mean squat. If you are a member of their elite, gold, platinum or whatever the airline designates it is easy to get first class as a perk. The advantage is you pay meager membership fee upfront for the perk. Sure he went first class but did he spend his money or the airlines?

Diana Lea   June 8th, 2007 3:39 am ET

Ron Paul won the Republican debate. It is a very smart and clear speaker

Will Webber, Tennessee resident   June 8th, 2007 7:04 am ET

So What…Dr. Paul flew first class…just shows that CNN and the rest of the MSM are on a campaign to try and make Dr. Paul look bad…with this article about his flying first class…yet no mention of Giuliani's or McCain's travel arrangements-most likely in private chartered flights or private tour buses…I can't wait until the voting starts…CNN, et al will fall all over themselves trying to explain how the "internet" candidate emerges as the front runner rather than their self anointed front runners…

Josh Parsley, Madison WV   June 8th, 2007 1:40 pm ET

Come on, CNN. Most of the other candidates fly PRIVATE CORPERATE JETS. What you're trying to do here is painfully obvious.

Bob C, Glendale AZ   June 8th, 2007 1:44 pm ET

Oh for crying out loud — so what if he flew first class? How awful!

Give me a break, CNN! What is your problem?

Ken, Portland Oregon   June 8th, 2007 1:45 pm ET

Bwahahhahahahahaha!

Thats it? Thats all you've got? I'd get Ron Paul his own private 747 if I could. LOL! nice "news" story. Glad to see you're spending more time discussing the real issues plauging our country. This is almost as stupid as Wulf Blizkreigs ability to moderate a debate.

Fred, LA, California   June 8th, 2007 1:47 pm ET

Do the math stupid

First Class Candidate = First Class Seat

So is a ditzy little article going to be written when he starts flying Airforce One?

Nick, SA TX   June 8th, 2007 1:47 pm ET

This might not even be a bad article. I think that the general public is just so jaded with the media, they assume that this is a negative article.

After all, the American people have been robbed of real news for decades.

Thank god they're up-to-date in covering Paris Hilton

Angela Thornton, Chicago, IL   June 8th, 2007 1:48 pm ET

Nice CNN. Real nice.

The Democrats and Giuliani took private jets, paid for with corporate money, and this is what you report?

Next you'll be telling us that Fred Thompson is just a good 'ol boy, man of the people kinda guy.

Oh wait! You already are!

Davison, Arlington V.A.   June 8th, 2007 1:52 pm ET

There is a huge difference between someone who supports the free market and believes that someone who works hard is entitled to the fruits of their labor like Paul, and someone who advocates an egalitarian redistribution of wealth, let has multiple million dollar houses like John Edwards. Edwards is a hyprocrite, Paul contines to practice what he preaches.

Alex Atlanta, GA   June 8th, 2007 2:00 pm ET

Fantastic, CNN. I appreciate the inanity of your programming. Really, the state of public discourse is doing well with you watching over it.

How about you talk about his stance on the issues, or is that less relevant to his candidacy than what class he flies on an airline? Or how about his voting record as a congressman? You know, the one candidate with an unquestionably consistent voting record for the past ten years? It's too late for you to go back and give him equal representation in the debate. Why don't you talk about his stance on taxes? Or the War in Iraq? Or illegal immigration, perhaps?

Do your job. Report on the news. Report on what's relevant. I don't care what class he flies.

Jon Perez, LA, CA   June 8th, 2007 2:12 pm ET

Ron Paul is my man, but some of my fellow supporters just puzzle me…

First, they complain about Ron Paul not getting any coverage. Now when Ron Paul gets coverage, they whine about any coverage that is less than a paean to Paul.

GEEEEESSSHHHH….

Kevin American Fork, UT   June 8th, 2007 2:14 pm ET

I am not sure what point is trying to be made. Why not mention that Ron Paul does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension at taxpayer's expense? Why not mention that he returns a portion of his annual budget to the treasury every year?

The fact that you even print this merely shows the Mainstream Media's despearation to find anything that could be perceived as negative about RP. You only strengthen our resolve to wake up the sheeple in this country.

Brian, Fort Walton Beach, FL   June 8th, 2007 2:20 pm ET

This is liking saying Ron Paul ate at Olive Garden while the others ate at Denny's. Boy, he sure is lucky, isn't he!

So then, who ate at Masa? Hmm?

Tara, Fort Walton Beach, FL   June 8th, 2007 2:24 pm ET

Oh My No!! I guess this means he buys two-ply too?

Chris Kennedy, Warrensburg, MO   June 8th, 2007 2:24 pm ET

Hahaha, all I can say is you are so so funny CNN, like we really care about who flies first class. What about Giuliani and McCain on their private jets, the ones selling our country out to the Saudis and Big Corporations controlling the Media (like CNN).

Good Luck on your Crusade, maybe someday you will learn how to be loving and nice instead of creepy and sneaky.

NickT, San Antonio, TX   June 8th, 2007 2:28 pm ET

I really hope the money I donated went towards Ron Paul's first class ticket!! He deserves it!! :-)

Søren, Denmark   June 8th, 2007 2:32 pm ET

Maybe thats the reporters way of saying that Ron Paul is appoaching the Rudy McRomney bore. - as a contender for the primary win.

Or maybe he is just making fun with you guys ;)

Nate, Knoxville TN   June 8th, 2007 2:34 pm ET

"Why not mention that Ron Paul does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension at taxpayer’s expense? Why not mention that he returns a portion of his annual budget to the treasury every year?"

I think that pretty much is all that needs to be said. :)

Ann Dothan Alabama   June 8th, 2007 3:00 pm ET

Great point CNN, I really hadn't given much thought to the cost of travel for Dr. Paul. Quess this weekend will be a stay home weekend so I can send in another $100 to help with his next flight. Ann

Michael Holt, Austin Texas   June 8th, 2007 3:03 pm ET

The hardest working man in Washington deserves to fly first class :-) ***RON PAUL 2008***

Ronny Blitchton GA   June 8th, 2007 3:08 pm ET

You guys are at rock bottom, come up with nothing and have started in with the jackhammers. LOL. This is truely a peice of work…Please don't vote RP…he chooses to buy first class tickets. This is rich

meghan mccumbers, kalispell, montana   June 8th, 2007 3:11 pm ET

so uh what exactly do the flight habits of the candidates have to do with what kind of president they will be? maybe the media ought to start reporting real news? just a thought

Matt, Huntsville AL   June 8th, 2007 3:35 pm ET

Ron Paul is first class. Rudy McRomney probably each flew on a $100,000 corporate flight sponsored by an oil company.

Danny K. Orange, CA   June 8th, 2007 3:41 pm ET

Isn't Hilary and Obama taking corporate jets?

J. Stevens Houston, Texas   June 8th, 2007 3:45 pm ET

That's NEWS with capital letters, wow, you guys will have to do better to deceive the American people. My God, this is the lowest kick under the belt you guys have given Ron Paul so far, congratulations.

John, Salt Lake City Utah   June 8th, 2007 3:53 pm ET

Is this your attempt at trying to smear Ron Paul while Rudy McRomney flies all over the country in their private jets?

Tim, NJ   June 8th, 2007 4:06 pm ET

Hah! Maybe the rest of those candidates should take some lessons from Ron Paul on good fiscal policy and they too could ride in 1st class!

Seriously, as has been said elsewhere: I bet this has something to do with his frequent flyer miles from flying home to Texas EVERY weekend for years now.

steve, Brooklyn NY   June 8th, 2007 5:40 pm ET

My goodness. I am absolutely appalled and outraged at Ron for flying first class (the highest of all classes, no doubt). We should pass a law to prevent this sort of offensive behavior.

Aaron   June 8th, 2007 8:06 pm ET

So what was the point of this story?
Ron Paul in 08!

Mike   June 8th, 2007 8:15 pm ET

Dr. Paul has saved lives so he deserves every penny of his wealth.

Sal, Wellington, Florida   June 8th, 2007 8:17 pm ET

Since Ron Paul won the debate, they probably gave him the first class upgrade. I know I'd have given it to the winner as well…

Mike   June 8th, 2007 8:27 pm ET

Once Ron Paul eliminates the Federal Reserve, the inflation will go away and everyone will be able to afford 1st class. Simple really!

Jammie Alabama   June 8th, 2007 8:59 pm ET

Please stop….can't breath, can't stop laughing, first class…OH MY…Whats next? Don't tell me he had peanuts and coffee :O …I feel faint..This article just went off the charts on my dumbest attempt at a smear meter.

Jon Mangin, New Vernon, NJ   June 8th, 2007 9:15 pm ET

Nice try, CNN. Your attempt to make Ron Paul look bad backfired just as much as your decision to pull the comments section the other night.

Ron Paul I guess should not be in first class. He deserves a private plane with military escort.

Victor, CA   June 8th, 2007 10:26 pm ET

CNN. You are losing credibility every day. Not at FOX news level, but getting close.

Mrs. Holland, Gretna, La.   June 8th, 2007 10:28 pm ET

Yet somehow you forgot to mention the candidates who use corporate jets for their mode of transportation.

Mr. Ron Paul has my full support when flying first class, he deserves it!

Jive Dadson - San Jose CA   June 8th, 2007 10:44 pm ET

If that's how he chooses to spend his money, it's his business. If I could afford it, I would fly first class too. Ron Paul has yet to take a penny of campaign funds from corporations. Ask the others where they get their money. He gives back a portion of his House salary to the treasury. How many of the others do that? He declines to participate in the government pension fund. How many of the others do that? Let him sit where he wants to.

Jive Dadson - San Jose CA   June 8th, 2007 10:57 pm ET

But… I'm glad you are giving us Ron Paul supporters the opportunity to speak. How about doing the same for Dr. Paul? Give him as much time as the others, okay? The country will thank you - big time.

Nate, Spokane, Washington   June 8th, 2007 10:58 pm ET

Dang it people. I am a huge Ron Paul fan but stop kissing his arse. I expected to hear one person say that he IS first class, but 145 comments! Come on!

Sean, The Colony, TX   June 9th, 2007 2:29 am ET

Hey CNN can you tell me which candidate votes to spend less of my money? Guess what is Ron Paul.

ShaneC - Hampton Roads, VA   June 9th, 2007 7:04 am ET

That's absured! I thought I was the only one who was able to get a free bump to First Class!!!

saltmagic   June 9th, 2007 10:39 am ET

The question should be….. Which candidate flys..private "CORPORATE JETS"….but I guess that would imply truth to the corporate owned front runners, remember " It takes a village" of corruption to get your stooge in.

JB Clarksville Indiana   June 9th, 2007 11:51 am ET

Thats cool I'll be flying First class too when he gets rid of the IRS.

Tim, Melbourne, FL   June 9th, 2007 12:10 pm ET

Please explain what flying first class implies about a candidate. I had a chance to fly 1st class once - but I'm not sure what that is supposed to say about me…

Gary Johnson, New York, NY   June 9th, 2007 5:11 pm ET

Ron Paul has never taken a taxpayer funded junket, and his support comes from everyday people who don't have a corporate jet to spare. He deserves to fly First Class.

Robert, Orlando, Florida   June 10th, 2007 12:23 pm ET

Good for Him, oh wait, first class is going somewhere else..
I admire Ron Paul's Ideas, the respect for the constitution and for the people of this country. Hey maybe we should pay for the other candidates to sit next to him, something good may stick to them! ?

robert, orlando, florida   June 10th, 2007 12:27 pm ET

Maybe the first class passengers asked the pilot and the crew to remove the other 4 to coach. :-)

robert, orlando, florida   June 10th, 2007 12:32 pm ET

Hey, he may have book his seat ahead of time, instead of waiting for a corporate stand by, just maybe!!

Cindy, Tampa, Florida   June 10th, 2007 12:44 pm ET

This article made me actually donate to Ron Paul's campaign. Thanks CNN for driving home once again how Dr. Paul is the only candidate worthy of my vote.

Perhaps there is hope for our great nation? Perhaps y'all should get on broad with the rest of us? We see what you're trying to do and it doesn't make the mainstream media look very good.

Cordially,
A Democrat voting for Ron Paul

Robert, orlando, Florida   June 10th, 2007 1:06 pm ET

Hey Maybe the airline employee told them that whoever answers 1 question truthfully gets bump to frist class.
Just maybe!, Maybe she asked them who's country they are running for president, who knows maybe only one answered USA and the American People

Mark, Vancouver, B.c.   June 10th, 2007 1:09 pm ET

Good luck to Ron Paul, hope he stays alive long enough to win and get your country a little further away from the theocracy/corporatocracy that it has become since 1913.

patriot1776   June 10th, 2007 1:13 pm ET

ron paul is the only and final hope for the u.s., and by extension the rest of the world. if the pathocracy successfully stymie his presidential candidacy - either through their paid media whores or assassination, then it will be time for the second american revolution - a war against the traitors within and without. death to tyrants: liberty & justice for all.

Mike Stamper, Windsor, CT   June 10th, 2007 1:24 pm ET

Who cares what class Ron Paul flies in? I think he is terrific. My only advice to him would be to stay out of small planes (remember Paul Wellstone!).

s. schneider, boyers, pa   June 10th, 2007 1:42 pm ET

Good for CNN for pointing this out. They know, and all of us know, exactly what it means. Four candidates bravely made the woeful sacrifice of sitting in coach with the lowly unwashed masses to prove how frugal and everyman they are, after paying their handlers big bucks to calculate whether it would make "exactly the right impression." Mr. Paul either didn't worry about it, decided to go strictly business as usual, or deliberately made a point of not trying to manipulate his image. I'm sure the other candidates and their "people" wasted a lot more time and money agonizing over exactly the right shade of tie for the debate than Mr. Paul did on deciding how to fly. Come on, they would have paid EXTRA to fly coach if they had to. So they sat with their knees in their mouths while Mr. Paul rode in comfort and dignity — and up front. Very intelligent. Very honest. Very presidential.

Franklin, G.B., WI   June 10th, 2007 1:53 pm ET

Make it 146. Ron Paul is first class!

SW, Colorado Springs, CO   June 10th, 2007 2:11 pm ET

So, the socialist Hillary flies in a private aircraft. So does Rudy and Edwards…
And Ron Paul flies first-class…? What's the big deal? Pathetic corporate-controlled media.

Dan Cola, SC   June 10th, 2007 2:16 pm ET

Is it any wonder people are turning to blogs for news? Stories like this are exactly why.

Johannes, Mtl, Qc, Ca.   June 10th, 2007 2:16 pm ET

America on the brink. I won't make any guarantees that having Dr. Ron Paul as president will be enough to avoid the iceberg, but it's your only hope. Wake up.

PS: The pledge of allegiance should be replaced with a complete polygraph.

J Nelson Elkton, FL   June 10th, 2007 2:44 pm ET

Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that is for US. Does that scare the powers that be and the mainstream media? You betcha!

We need to elect him and another 535 like him in Congress. Maybe we'd get our country back.

rex   June 10th, 2007 2:52 pm ET

However you try to distort, I'm voting for Ron Paul, Mike Gravel or Denise Kucinich, or voting for none. The rest of the "candidates" are either good ol' proxies bent on promoting their military-industrial connections, or just a bunch of good ol' retards oblivious to the real problems of this country.

Brett, Mobile, Al   June 10th, 2007 3:08 pm ET

Ron Paul is the only worthy candidate running! Wake up America!!

G Pease   June 10th, 2007 3:14 pm ET

Great video. For those that want to keep their freedoms, Ron Paul is indeed the only choice. Unfortunately, money plays an extremely important part in the success of a presidential campaign. Please go to Ron Paul’s website, RonPaul2008(dot)com, and help in any way that you can. You no longer have to choose the lesser of two evils! JOIN THE REVOLUTION! VOTE DIFFERENT!

Blayne Tucker, San Antonio, TX   June 10th, 2007 3:36 pm ET

This is the worst dirt CNN can find about Ron Paul? The mainstream media is obviously desperate to discredit the only legitimate Republican candidate running for, and on behalf of, the hearts and minds of the American people.

Chris H. NEW JERSEY   June 10th, 2007 3:44 pm ET

first class today, air force one tomorrow.

Ray   June 10th, 2007 3:51 pm ET

After Ron Paul is elected, we will all be flying first class.

Mike, Sarasota Florida   June 10th, 2007 4:45 pm ET

OMG FIRST CLASS! How dare he do a thing like that. Haha.. Who cares?

Ahmad, Edmonton, Alberta   June 10th, 2007 4:46 pm ET

All the World is behind Ron Paul, including all of us 1.4 billion muslims. He is the only true candidate worthy to lead the republican party. We hope the American people can break the backs of the corporate media and find a way to elect him into power. It will make our lives much easier. Our enemies and the enemies of the American people are one and the same.

johnny_tech U.S.A.   June 10th, 2007 5:01 pm ET

I'll be glad when the people get back their country and send you along with the rest of them (straight) to (JAIL).

John, York PA   June 10th, 2007 5:16 pm ET

Could it be that Rep. Paul Has enough frequent flier points that he gets an upgrade? Perhaps your lame ass reporter might have asked that simple question.
I am sickened by the media's manipulation of this election. No wonder we wind up with worthless candidates.

Greg H, Victoria, Canada   June 10th, 2007 5:23 pm ET

Great investigative journalism CNN! If Ron Paul wants to use my campaign contribution to stretch his legs, have something to eat and try to get some sleep its fine by me.

Chuck Feney, Livingston, Montana Autonomous Region, NAU   June 10th, 2007 5:33 pm ET

Ron Paul is the class of the field and that includes both so-called parties. He is scaring the oil-soaked blood-stained mainstream media to death!

Marc Farner   June 10th, 2007 5:37 pm ET

This is pretty lame as an exercise in opinion-shaping. Ron Paul's momentum continues to grow, as more people absorb his message. He is the true American, and not a sell-out like the other pretenders. Serve the People, CNN, or be left in the dust.

CRYSTLE SALISBURY PENGILKLY, MN   June 10th, 2007 5:47 pm ET

WELL RON PAUL OBVIOUSLY STILL BELIEVES AND PRACTICES ONE OF OUR FREEDOM — THE FREEDOM OF CHOICE. HE IS A FIRST-CLASS CANDIDATE AND MADE THE CHOICE TO FLY FIRST-CLASS. GOOD FOR HIM!

Griffin, Seguin, Texas   June 10th, 2007 6:18 pm ET

You have got to be kidding!?! Ron Paul flew first class? The world is ending! Give it a break, just because someone can pay the fare for first class passage doesn't mean they are up to anything dirty. If I could afford it, I'd fly first class, too.

Roy Dobbs, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin   June 10th, 2007 6:47 pm ET

Mr. Paul is well worthy of flying first class and since when did that become a concern of any news report, people are dieing left and right in Iraq and all over the World and you people waste the publics time with nonsense like that, get a life. I gues it comes down to 'They smear those they fear". Roy Dobbs, Wisconsin

Stephen DeVoy, Burlington, VT   June 10th, 2007 8:35 pm ET

You go Ron Paul! If this is the best attack corporate media can make against Ron Paul, then Ron Paul wins.

(I wonder when the last time the CEO of CNN flew coach?)

Bill Clermont, Florida   June 10th, 2007 8:44 pm ET

I got some more dirt on Ron Paul…he once tipped a waitress more than 15%. What a Fat Cat!

Tom Rogers   June 10th, 2007 9:30 pm ET

Wow, Ron Paul is just like James Bond. Does he drive a Cadillac Cien? Go Ron!

After he disbands the IRS, maybe I might realize that dream , too.

All these taxes we pay and we have'nt got better health care? We don't even have an honest government. Just pirates like Hal Cheney.

Steven Darby - Alvin Tx.   June 10th, 2007 9:40 pm ET

This is supposed to be news?

What is up with you media stooges?

The American people love Ron Paul, he is my representative in congress as a matter of fact. I think all you phonys are scared to death by a true conservative, and constitutionalist.

I have donated hundreds of dollars to his campaign, and am not in the least upset by the "report" that he flew first class.

Now get back to reporting some real news.

nyc   June 10th, 2007 9:50 pm ET

the other four candidates should not have been allowed on the same plane as Dr. Ron Paul. Heck, they shouldn't even be allowed to carry his luggage. America first!

nyc   June 10th, 2007 9:52 pm ET

why not report on how Guiliani or McCain or Romney flew in private charter planes. mainstream media is a joke.

Steve Savage, Oklahoma City, OK   June 10th, 2007 10:31 pm ET

So its unamerican now to fly first class?
Was he caught sipping cognac instead of a coors beer? Does that make him an elitist?

CNN is desperate to get smear any candidate that isn't Romney or Guliani, doubly so because Paul is a legitimate threat to the Mad Mormon and Crossdressing Rudy. I guess corporate decided long ago who the viewers should vote for.

Tom Cleveland OH   June 11th, 2007 12:15 am ET

Shocking! George Bush never flew first class in his life!

Mike, Pueblo Colorado   June 11th, 2007 1:04 am ET

He deserves it.

John D. , New York, NY   June 11th, 2007 1:12 am ET

Whoop dee do. I don't know why this is "news". Maybe he got an upgrade.

The elites of this country hate Ron Paul because he will end the empire and restore the Republic. That's why us real Americans love the man.

Debra   June 11th, 2007 1:24 am ET

CNN LOL You've got to be kidding here. With an administration past & current with so much deceit, scandal, crimes & misdemeanors you're reporting this trite stuff? Flying First Class? This gentleman has class along w/ the right stuff to become President. Enuf said.

Aloysious, Anchorage, AK   June 11th, 2007 4:07 am ET

First class seating for the only first class candidate, Dem or Repub.

A.B.   June 11th, 2007 5:41 am ET

Aren't frequent flier first class upgrades great! I upgrade to first class whenever I can with my frequent flier miles!

SGT Kyle Sanders, Salem, OREGON ***** All you need is LOVE! ***   June 11th, 2007 5:44 am ET

Look at all the love for Dr. Paul. He is BELOVED!!

CNN, shame on you for trying to discredit such an honest, compassionate, intelligent person.

Ron Paul is gaining MASSIVE support because he stands for the truth. He deserves to ride in first class for the rest of his life.

Genio Meraviglio, New Jersey   June 11th, 2007 8:22 am ET

Is this REALLY news? Ron Paul's message has nothing to do with preventing people from achieving wealth. When Cheryl Crow demands that you use one square of toilet paper, she does it from her mansion. Al Gore asks that you drive a Yugo and Car Pool - while being limsuined to his private jet. Have you ever "Outed" Al Gore for using a Limosuine?

Robert   June 11th, 2007 10:35 am ET

CNN–Is this the best you can do? Gag me with a sock!!!

steve k, Manchester, England   June 11th, 2007 10:36 am ET

Even us British people admire Ron Paul, the BBC wrote an article saying he's the only worthwhile candidate! I think it's about time you reported the news OBJECTIVELY! since we don't really care for you're bias towards the Neo-cons….

Steven A. Smith, Woodbridge, NJ   June 11th, 2007 11:05 am ET

Ron Paul, do me a favor for next time… Fly coach!!! That way CNN and the mainstreem media won't use it against you… Don't worry, your First class all the way in my eyes and you got my vote!!!
Vote Ron Paul 2008 and win back the constitution and make this country the best and strongest country in the world!!!

Stacey, Tampa, FL   June 11th, 2007 11:31 am ET

So sorry he doesn't fly in his own private jet yet.

georgia   June 11th, 2007 1:07 pm ET

good to see that ron paul is flying on commercial airlines so he wont get "Wellstoned"

check out fromthewildernes.com's articles on the murder of senator paul wellstone

Okey Wagner, Cleburne TX   June 11th, 2007 1:16 pm ET

I'm sure all the "Other" candidates sitting in back had photographers back there with them. What a great publicity shot. Shows that they are "commoners"! CNN you continue to amaze me with your lack of REAL reporting skills. How about this one…"Ron Paul asks for EXTRA ketchup at McDonalds, while the other candidates had to eat dirt".
