WASHINGTON (CNN) - In the latest Race to '08 podcast, CNN's Dick Uliano talks with Niki Tsongas, Democratic candidate for Congress in Massachusetts. The widow of Senator Paul Tsongas is running for the 5th Congressional seat, which her late husband once held.
What makes the spouses of senators and congressmen qualified for taking over the position of their deceased loved one? I think they should only be allowed to take over the seat if they actually run in a general election ... no appointments.
To Rebecca Smith: This is exactly what it says, Niki Tsongas is RUNNING for the seat. He husband has not held this seat for a while. Come on, please read/listen before you make comments. Also, anyone can RUN for any office as long as they meet the requirements set out by the Constititution. There are and have been many people running for Congress who NEVER had political experience. They are probably the best people because they ususally work for the PEOPLE and not the special interests.
I agree–and that is what Mrs. Tsongas is doing, running for the congressional seat.
Niki has every right to run and not only that she is far more qualified and passionate than any of the other candidates. She is a valuable member of the community, a dean at one of Massachusetts' largest community colleges, and a mother of three.
She is also a military brat and has the most respect for our troops in Iraq than anyone else, wanting to make sure we take care of them when they return from that disastrous war.
Regarding John MCcain:
If he cares about protecting America so much, then how come two of our police officers(In Phoenix,Arizona )were murdered by illegal immigrants in one month two months ago??. How come Phoenix,Arizona has 19,000 homeless? Why is there grafitti and gangs all over my neighborhood in Sunnyslope,AZ?. Do you really care about us Americans or are you another warmonger? You will not get my vote as I am changing to Independent.
