Bill Clinton reaches out to supporters at a Democratic Party fundraiser in Newark, New Jersey, on June 8.

NEW YORK (AP) — Bubba's back.

Bill Clinton used to be a stealth presence in his wife's presidential campaign, raising money and schmoozing supporters largely out of the public eye.

This week, the former president stepped into the spotlight, from his humorous turn in a new Web video to the announcement that he will join Hillary Clinton on high-profile campaign visits to Iowa and New Hampshire.

Aides say Bill Clinton has long planned to campaign publicly for his wife, and Hillary Clinton often promises audiences they'll see a lot more of him.

Hillary is a surrogate for her husband.

linda, vista, ca   November 4th, 2007 11:26 am ET

Why doesnt Hillary stand on her own? Next, Bill will be doing her debating.

Linda, Oceanside, Ca   November 4th, 2007 11:23 am ET

Hillary would still be an Arkansas lawyer without Bill. I should vote for her because she married Bill. That seems to be her only credentials. No way would I vote for someone because they are someones spouse. Its like Bill is running again and wanting us to vote him in, and Hillary is his surrogate.

Bush then Clinton then Bush then Clinton again? This is America, we need a new last name in the White House.

Ann Brunswick ME   June 24th, 2007 1:34 pm ET

How come Hilary can't stand on her own like the rest of the dems. What a "girl."

Shawnie Cannon, Grants Pass OR   June 21st, 2007 10:43 pm ET

Clinton has charisma, he is a natural for the spotlight. He is not White House material, he is better employed elsewhere.

Kyu Reisch, Radcliff, Kentucky   June 21st, 2007 10:24 pm ET

Bill Clinton was the best President in our history, Hillary married him, they are husband and wife, family. Can you find any couple is like The Clintons in this world? Husband and wife are brilliant and wonderful human being, how nice to see they go back to White House. I don't want million dollars, I want Hillary Clinton makes our next President. She will be a better President than any one of former Presidents. I am proud of her and supporting her, you will be proud of yourself if you support her.

Should we start making a list of all of Dubya's lies? How many characters will this thing even allow me to type?

Bill W, Coatesville, PA   June 21st, 2007 5:25 pm ET

I thought 8 years of the Clintons was more than enough - too much, in fact.

Granted, the Bush years have been awful. But that's no reason to be in a hurry to run from one bad president to 4 or even 8 years of yet another bad president.

Like Lewis Black says - "If you were inspired by either George Bush or Bill Clinton, then you were probably inspired by your high school principal. And that's pretty sad." Bush and Clinton were both awful, in different ways.

I think its time we stopped recycling the same tired candidates over and over. I think its time to go with somebody new. And I know this country can do better than to bring the Clintons back again for 4 more years.

David, Gilbert Arizona   June 21st, 2007 3:53 pm ET

You don't see any candidate use Mr. Bush in their campaigns.

Bill is an asset and Hilary would be doing her campaign a disservice if she did not use him. He is charismatic and people like him.

You can throw up the "I did not have sexual relations" quote and Bill's indiscression all you like. Bill isn't running for office. Hilary is. We aren't electing Bill to the high office. If she is elected the presidency will belong to Hilary.

If you cast your vote for Hilary thinking you will have Bill as president again I believe you will be sadly awakened to the reality of your efforts.

Matt, Austin, Texas   June 21st, 2007 12:53 pm ET

There are plenty of people in Texas who remember president Clinton fondly, but thanks for only adhering to stereotypes.

Of course she's using Bill to help her campaign. They keep asking ALL of the candidates how they would use Bill if they were the president, so of course people expect Hillary to use Bill. Since it seems you haven't been reading carefully, Bill has been going around doing fundraisers and giving speeches on his own, it just hasn't been well publicized. He's in the media more now because of that dumb video on Hillary's website, but he's always been actively helping her campaign.

Does anyone remember the statement "I did not have sexual relations with that woman"? It was Bill Clinton on national TV talking to the American public, denying the Monica scandal. Amazing, that people would want to fondly remember Bill Clinton after that. I don't respect someone who has that dubious of a moral code/ethics. I would like someone who can show more restraint than that. Having lived through the Clinton era, I don't recall any "Golden Age" as earlier posters have commented. Maybe I should be reading those revised history books that have Clinton actually accomplishing anything.

Quote "I did NOT have sexual relations with that woman".

Austin, Evergreen Park, IL   June 21st, 2007 11:34 am ET

I should also add, I just noticed that if the comments so far are any indication, there are two kinds of Americans: those who remember the Clinton presidency fondly, and those who are from Texas.

Coincidence?

Austin, Evergreen Park, IL   June 21st, 2007 11:30 am ET

I'm with Providence. Bill Clinton's presidency will be remembered as a Golden Age, and this is as close as we'll ever get to being able to repeat it. 4 more Clinton Years? 8 more? Where do I sign up?

Michele Soltero, Phoenix, AZ   June 21st, 2007 11:05 am ET

I'd vote for Hillary because I think she was Bill's successes and downfalls. And because I love Bill!!!

Providence, RI   June 21st, 2007 10:32 am ET

Bill Clinton is the best president that we ever had. His leadership was excellent. I do not care about his personal life (Monica). The whole world loved America during Clinton era. The whole world perceived America as a role model during Clinton era. God bless both Clintons! I am certain that people will love him him even more.

Matt Houston, Texas   June 21st, 2007 10:31 am ET

I guess Hillary is realizing that she has no chance of winning on her own and is hoping to ride her husband into the presidency.

josh embry, austin, tx   June 21st, 2007 10:28 am ET

I thought Mr. Clinton had already been president???
