I think this is great ... those leaping on the bandwagon for Elizabeth Edwards, supporting an honorable "stop the personal attacks" (which I support) and, in the same breath, launching into one of their own on Anne Coulter (her appearance, etc.). I don't hear the same when you same folks personally attack our President – why the double standard?

Ya can't have it both ways, folks!

I'm not a huge Coulter fan, but we certainly need her unique though consistent perspective. And we need people like her, who can point out the hypocrisy and idiocy (on both sides) that is a part of every campaign and within these forums. She just may be too high brow for her critics, who either can't understand or appreciate her points of comaprison. I think her against-the-grain perspective beautifully contrasts some of those self-righteous few, who readily wrap themselves in free speech to denigrate our Commander-in-Chief, our on-going warfighting efforts, and our national will to win though steadfastly claim themselves as "patriots." Why can't they now tolerate a little of that same patriotism?

Long live Anne and those like her … on both sides. And to those fuming – try not to take any of them too seriously. Get outside and live a good life.

That's what opinion editorial columnists do - express their opinions. That's the foundation of America - the privilege to express our opinions, as many of us have done here. Ann's opinions are shared by a lot of people in this country who don't have a venue from which to air them. Ann did not attack Edwards and the loss of a child does not exempt one from criticism. Ann criticized Edwards for using his son's death to generate sympathy as political support - which is obviously his major strategy since he is using sympathy over being criticized by Ann to increase his donations. The man is a manipulator and not very stable emotionally, if not borderline sociopathic. But that's just my opinion based on gut instinct. How does one person's opinion inhibit conversation? Obviously that hasn't been the case on this site. The constitutional protection of political speech, especially at the grass roots level, is vital to the survival of American democracy. Ann Coulter has the right to express her opinions publically the same as you and I.

I emailed Chris Matthews at MSNBC and I will type the same to CNN as I typed to him. Ann Coulter should never wish or state anything about wishing any person, let alone John Edwards, to be killed in a terrorist attack. You might as well say others would die at the hand of terrorist. After what our country went through during 911 and what we are fighting for in Iraq, Ann Coulter should apologize to the Edwards family first of all. She is the one making money off the comments she made towards the Edwards family. She is a mean spirited person and does not deserve to be in the media. If Imus is taken off the air for his comments, then no broadcast should invite her back to state her absurd opinons. I know I will never watch any broadcast that has her on the air.

It's interesting that the article doesn't mention that Maher's comments were actually just reiterating the hypothetical that some OTHER person had suggested; he didn't actually wish that Cheney were dead. I thought journalism articles were supposed to contain the COMPLETE set of facts on the substance of the article. When the article notes that "[Coulter] claimed..." it should have also pointed out what ACTUALLY was the case so as to present an actual piece of journalism; left as is the article is slanted to favor the slanderous comment from Coulter.

The United States is in a difficult time in our history. Politics has the country very divided on individual opinions and issues that are trying to control others lives. I think the American people in time will work through these issue and learn greater respect for others views. What this country first needs to come to grips with is the likes of people like Ann Coulter. This woman is very much crazy just like John Edwards said, and I don’t even support John Edwards. Coulter is a hate monger and has nothing to offer this country but discord. It is unfortunate that the ratings of Hardball are so low that Chris Mathews finds it necessary to give her an hour of his show. I think MSNBC needs to rethink how they can regain their viewers. The less we give Coulter primetime to talk the better it will be for this nation.

In the interests of disclosure, I do not support John Edwards candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President in '08. However, the recent exchange between Elizabeth Edwards and Ann Coulter on MSNBC was one of the most important dialogues the media has shown in years. It crystallizes the unfortunate level to which political discourse has sunk in recent times. Independent of whether one's leanings are right wing or left, conservative or liberal, Coulter's venomous attacks on political leaders, candidates and their families has relegated political discussion to a level that few bother to consider.
Watch Coulter's body language and incessant brushing back of her hair during the interview with Edwards and Chris Matthews. It is obvious that the discussion struck a chord which she would prefer to avoid. Her retorts to the allegations of vicious attacks on Edwards and even his deceased son were evasive as she merely sought to alter the dicussion to the unrelated topic of fundraising speeches. It was especially disconcerting that many of the young audience at the interview enjoyed her comments and seemed to adopt her inconsiderate negativity even when the topic was the death of
Edwards' child.
Hopefully, the media will further publicize the exchange between Elizabeth Edwards and Anne Coulter and make it more than a one day topic of discussion. Analysis of the level to which Coulter has taken political commentary merits more dialogue and debate than the duration of incarceration for Paris Hilton.

I don't personally like or agree with a good chunk of what Ann Coulter says, but people, please do your research on John Edwards and Elizabeth Edwards. I am originally from NC, and he has done very little for the state in recent memory, especially when he was our Senator. He used his Senate race to catapult his Presidential campaign as far back as '97. This guy is an opportunist in the worst way. The News and Observer, the local paper in Raleigh, NC, did a piece on his poverty institute which was little more than a tax shelter for his presidential campaign.

I am throwing my support behind Barack Obama as I feel like he does his research about the issues , will work with both parties to achieve great things, and is not so motivated by the glamour and prestige of the Presidency or feels that he is owed this honor.

As stated in the article, no one seemed to care when Maher said VP Cheney should be killed. Mrs. Edwards did not care. The media did not care. So why now, and why not last march?

We all know why...because Maher is a liberal, left leaning, anti-Bushie. If you fall into that category you can say anything you want w/o repercussion.

If Maher can say it, so to can Coulter. Get over it Edwards camp and stop profitting from it! Your side has Michael Moore, we have Coulter. Overall the points she makes are far more intelligent than Moore and filled with fact, not lies.

I personally don't like John Edwards, but I think that Anne Coulter has a lot of issues. She criticizes people for the way they look; I think that she needs to make fun of her ugly ears. She dresses like a whore, and that shows the lack of self confidence. I have never seen Ann wearing any modest clothes. All her clothes are beyond revealing. Ann needs to stop the name calling.
I have been trying to teach my 6 years old daughter to not call people bad names, but I think that Ann can benefit from some discipline as well.
