Delay said Wednesday the charges are "politically motivated."

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Texas Court of Appeals ruled against reinstating a dropped conspiracy charge against former Rep. Tom DeLay Wednesday, but one Democratic-leaning watchdog group is making sure people know "serious criminal charges remain."

"No one should be confused, Tom DeLay remains under indictment for serious criminal activity," Lone Star Project Director Matt Angle said in a statement. "DeLay’s very name has become shorthand for a corrupt public official. If justice is done, Tom DeLay’s future blog postings will be done behind bars."

The Lone Star project says on its Web site that it is unaffiliated with the Democratic Party, but describes itself as a watchdog group on the Texas GOP.

The former House majority leader had been charged with conspiracy to violate the state's election laws in the 2002 election cycle, but a judge threw out the charge after DeLay's defense attorneys successfully argued that the law he was accused of violating was not written until 2003. On Wednesday, the Texas court held up the decision in a 5-4 vote.

In a post on his blog reacting to the ruling, DeLay lashed out at Texas prosecutor Ronnie Earl for raising the charges.

"Ronnie Earle’s politically motivated indictments cost Republicans the leader of their choice, and my family hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees," he wrote. "The damage he has done to my family and my career cannot be rectified, but the courts have recognized a significant portion of the injustice and ruled accordingly."

The Texas Republican, who resigned from Congress last June, still faces criminal charges in association with money laundering.

WHAT A SHAME ON AUSTIN, TEXAS TO HAVE A DA LIKE RONNIE EARLE NIFONG. HE WASTED PUBLIC MONEY TO PROSECUTE A GOOD MAN LIKE TOM DELAY. HE USED HIS OFFICE TO GET REVENGE ON A REPUBLICAN LIKE HE HAS DONE IN THE PAST. WHAT DEMOCRAT HAS HE PROSECUTED RECENTLY, NONE. A RUNAWAY DEMOCRAT DA USING HIS OFFICE FOR THE DEMOCRATS

"Jefferson also did not stand trial yet, but we all know he is guilty."

Delay was NOT "caught red handed", yet he has already been convicted in the Media... which is where you get your foolish comments.

Jefferson, on the other hand, WAS CAUGHT RED HANDED hiding $90,000 in his office freezer, yet is still in office... If Jefferson was a republican he would have been crucified by the media and booted a long time ago.

And BTW, I stand by my comments, which is why I don't mind adding my name.

Yet another Republican blaming the media for another corrupt politician.

He was caught red handed...money laundering is just one of the charges. Though if you look up his bio he has a long track record of doing underhaned shady deals.

I bet Josh Embry also thinks that Duke Cunningham did not do anything wrong.

Jefferson also did not stand trial yet, but we all know he is guilty.

Quit defending your crooked politician and blaming the media.

How can DeLay's name "be short hand for 'a corrupt public official'" when he hasn't even had a trial yet? What happened to innocent until proven guilty. I guess he's already been tried and hanged by the media. Thanks Clinton News Network (CNN).

Ronnie Earle sounds like the Texas version of Mike Nifong.

I feel disgraced to be from the same state Tom Delay is from. Texas is firmly in the "Bible Belt," and these people such as Delay, ( Bush also) feel ordained by God, that they can do no wrong! It's more than shameful!

This guy is a bad joke. Republicans are fools for supporting him and should have had the decency to ask him to step down a long long time ago. People forget what these people are supposed to be doing. Do not forgive such filth.

Tom Delay is a corrupt politician and he needs to quit blaming everyone else for what he did. I hope that he has to
serve time or has to pay a huge fine..

If he had nothing to hide and didn't do anything wrong, why did he resign? It's not like it would've been hard to find somebody to pay for his flights back and forth between DC and Texas to fight his case. I'm just sad I never got to take part in voting him out...

I do think the majority of politicians are crooked and I am in the process of writing a song about this very subject. " Going up is heaven but coming down is hell".

Gretchen, Plymouth, MN   June 27th, 2007 6:56 pm ET

Delay sounds like Paris Hilton. It's always someone else's fault. If he weren't commiting crimes by abusing his power, he wouldn't be where he is today. How much of the thousands of dollars he's spending on defense did he make illegaly? Probably all of it. We reap what we sow.

Jefferson and DeLay share 1 thing in common in that they are both in denial.

Both of these guys are thugs that have no business serving as elected officials.

Let them rot – quit trying to hide behind your lies and fess up.
