I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Bush has commuted the prison term of former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who faced 30 months in prison after his March conviction on federal charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators.

Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted in March of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to
investigators probing the 2003 disclosure of CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson's identity. A federal judge in Washington sentenced Libby to prison in June, and a federal appeals court rejected the ex-official's bid to remain free while appealing his conviction earlier Monday.

In a written statement issued hours after that ruling, Bush called 30-month term "excessive." But he also rejected calls for a pardon for Libby, and said the onetime adviser will still have to pay a $250,000 fine and remain on probation for two years.

"The consequences of his felony conviction on his former life as a lawyer, public servant, and private citizen will be long-lasting," Bush said. But he said Libby was given "a harsh sentence based in part on allegations never presented to the jury."

Suzanne Malvoe stated last night that Susan MacDonald was given a pardon by President Clinton. What Suzanne neglected to state was that Ms. MacDonald was sent to jail by Kenneth Starr because she would not lie about the Clintons. This is what Kenneth Starr wanted her to do. She did not commit perjury like Libby.

Why don't you try getting the facts straight and tell the story honestly.

George W. Bush:
Pardons: 113
Commutations: 4 (including Libby)

Bill Clinton:
Pardons: 396
Commutations: 61

All you Clinton lovers (he had many) have nothing to say about these numbers that include Mark Rich who was is an international commodities trader. He fled the United States in 1983 to live in Switzerland while being prosecuted on charges of tax evasion and illegally making oil deals with Iran during the hostage crisis?

He received a presidential pardon from United States President Bill Clinton in 2001, which required him to pay a $100 million fine before the charges would be dropped.

He also gave a million dolars to the Clinton library, hows that for someone being pardoned (not commuted) under phony circumstance who was implicit with our ENEMY?

If Valerie Plame want's to discuss why she requested Joe Wilson to be part of the Niger investigation, lets do it, and he can explain why MUCH of what he reported was proven FALSE.

Can we go after the guy (who hates Bush by the way) who really leaked the name of this "supposed" CIA operative.

Bush is an idiot, but Clinton (in spite of the Clinton News Network) was no better.

Why should any of our corrupt politicians 'worry about the grand jury'? Clinton set that precedent during his term. It’s actually quite funny reading all the outrage on these boards – exactly like a flashback when Bubba did his share of impeachment quality behavior. We’ve got corrupt so-called “leaders”. We need a NEW DEAL, not one that already tried and failed (bubba / she-bubba). Oh yeah, I’d say people comparing Clinton (our PRESIDENT at the time) LYING to a Grand Jury and the American Public is just as bad and/or worse than Libby being as big of an idiot.

Shawnie - Grants Pass, OR   July 3rd, 2007 8:23 am ET

Libby's sentence was unusually harsh and there is no justice in handing one man a sentence many times what previous transgressors have received for like crimes.

I believe Libby should pay for his crimes, but can see he already has, to the extent of what his crimes really were.

He still has to pay $250,000, the felony stays on his record and his reputation and ability to work as he has done in the past is shattered.

I am not a Bush fan, but Bush has only 1/3 the pardons that Clinton had and the only other president with fewer pardons is Bush's father. Clearly, he is the least abusive of such a president's privilege, if a case can be made that he abused this power at all.

On this issue, I keep hearing it being minimized by people speaking about the Clinton Admin. Please note; The Clinton Admin has not been in charge since 2000. Regardless of Bill Clinton's shinanigans, the Bush problem is here, now, and in our face.

Well GB has shown again what it means to be an American in the eyes of the world. He has made us all look like fools. I would not believe a word of what he may say or do for the rest of his term or any republican as far as that goes. Everyone was dragged down this path to war by the white house and all of the republicans push and pushed. Well I would bet that now that Libby is retired he will receive a pension of sorts.

Blatant disregard for ‘rule of law’ and Constitutional checks and balances is the downfall of a democracy. When our leaders act in this way, it sends the message that anything is ‘ok’ providing that you can get away with it. The holding on of power is clearly more important than integrity and the greater good of the nation. This is a sad, dark time for the United States of America.

Rachel, San Diego CA   July 3rd, 2007 6:09 am ET

It's sad to see so many fools in one room. You people want so badly to find Libby guilty when Valerie Plame was never even undercover to begin with. Then, to go on and say that it's worse than what Clinton did? That's idiotic. Everyone who cries and whines about this needs to get a clue.

As govenor of Texas, George W Bush could have commuted the sentences of dozens of persons on death row, but because they showed no remorse for their crimes, he signed their executions. Now as president he commutes a 30 month sentence of a man who has shown no remorse for the crimes he committed against our country. Is that our country's idea of justice? How can this man still be our president?

Jamaal F, Los Angeles CA   July 3rd, 2007 3:06 am ET

You know part of me wants to say the hell with free speech The only reason I say that is because we have been hearing you conservative idiots (not all conservatives are idiots, but most of the ones that appear on Fox are) show unwavering support for a President and adminstration that has lied, stole, embezzled and put our best young troops on the frontline of a war that the American People never supported. The media, including this organization, would show all of the protest from over seas during the early stages of the war, but their was protest right here in the states that received little political coverage. Politicians that stood up against the war were vilified as terrorist supporters and unpatriotic americans, while they might have been the strongest americans that our political system held. And now in the face of a blatant slap to the justice system and to the history of America, Bush commutes a sentence for someone who has committed the gravest of crimes, treason upon our state. Now I know he wasn't charged with treason, that would be too much like right, but any man that puts the lives of our C.I.A. agents at risk for political gain, is guilty of treason in my book. Who knows how many agents covers were blown because of this political vendetta orchestrated by Karl Rove and Dick Cheney. And for what, because an ambassador who was doing his job and scrutinizing evidence instead of just accepting everything the administration has told us, went against Dick Cheney and Bush? I am just disgusted with politics in general, I find my only comfort in knowing that it can't get any worst then this, unless of course Guliani or Newt Gingrich becomes president. And before you 'pundits' start your unwaivering defense of Scooter, let me remind you, that nobody lost their life over Clintons alleged crime, while thousands of soldiers have died in a war that is unjust, underfunded and not well thought out. Can somebody tell me how in the world we can afford to give Haliburton billions of dollars, but can not afford to give our troops proper body armor to fight 'Bush's' war? This is not a war on terror, it is a war on our constitution. Steal an election, mislead the american people about 9/11, commit purgery, cherry pick a justice system that will rule in your favor, take away 'the peoples' rights with an '(Un)Patriot Act'. The list goes on and on. If Paris can go to jail for a suspended license, then Scooter Libby should be doing some time, not probation and a fine that he won't even pay. And Karl Rove and Cheney need to be next. Maybe now that Scooter is out, and his public career is over, maybe he can audition for the next season of Prison Break on Fox!!!!

Because of Bush and his administration I feel that America is now a scarey place to live. I am embarrassed that America has such a criminal for a President. Bush has no idea on how to be a good President. He cares absolutely nothing for the little people and it just disgusts me. He starts this war for no reason and so many young men died and never had a chance to live and it really gets me mad. Look at all the families that have to live without there sons or daughters because of him. He really never worries about Americas problems. It's always all the other countries that he worries about and the war. Our country is going to pot because of him. This man needs to be IMPEACHED immediately. I don't think we can survive another 16 months with him. Shame on the people who voted him in office.

Bob Brilliant, Sarasota, Florida   July 3rd, 2007 2:42 am ET

In all seriousness, what is the difference between the American People and other Countries run by Dictators ? Answer ? the American people have the right and the power to IMPEACH Mr. Bush for this political, under-handed manuvear. and in my Opinion, we should immediately send a message to the rest of the world that his actions are unacceptable to our so-called, Greatest Democracy in this World. Richard Milhouse Nixkon resigned over far less aggregess behavior. Why ? Because in those days Politicians knew right from wrong without having to read e-mails. or read Polls. Shouldn't Mr. Bush do the right thing now, himself, and spare the county of an IMPEACHMENT ORDEAL. So to speak, Fall on the sword, and do us all a favor.
This country needs a moral compass, not another crooked politcial manuvear.
Goodbye Bush, one way or the other. Don't you or your friends come back. Honestly, we've had enough. Do you get the message ?

OJ Simpson probably needs a job – I think he would be right at home with this administration. They are all shining examples of who you know and how much money you have getting you ANYTHING! I think everyone should fly their flags half staff on the fourth to show their disgust with this outrageous decision! It is a dark day for our country when the President (and I use that term loosely) can excuse his FRIEND just because he can.
Send e-mails to the White House and show them your anger. You can even send e-mail directly to Mr. Cheney – although you can probably reach him easier at Halliburton – that's where the money is. Anyway – here is the e-mail for whoever wants it. GOOD LUCK GETTING SOMEONE WHO CARES!! vice_president@ whitehouse.gov

Year after year Republicans have screamed for the head of those who leak the identies of CIA agents etc. Libby was convicted of obstructing a investigation into the most recent leak. A leak most likely done in revenge by the Bush Administration for the agents' husbands comments on a proven mistatement by Bush and Chaney. A agent who was usering her already developed connections to investigate Iran's nuclear programs. We lost a scource of information.
and the good old boy 's of the GOP go free of jail time that a lesser person would have never evaded. Just proves justice takes connections or excuse me avoiding justice takes connection. Got to love Republican values.

Big Deal
We had a president that lied to court, was fined and lost his law license. This President served no jail time why should Libby. His fine and law license is still valid and if not pardoned will not be re-gain his law license as he is still consideres a felon. He did not not out the CIA agent and was not charged with that.

I wonder if Victor Rita (who served 24 years in the Marine Corps, had tours of duty in Vietnam and the first Gulf war, received over 35 military metals and awards) will get his 33-month sentence commuted? Somehow I doubt it, since Bush's Department of Justice recently took that case all the way to the Supreme Court – and won. Victor Rita won't be seeing a get out of jail free card. Well, it seems to me that CNN is leaving out the most important part of this:

By commuting Libby's sentence–but not pardoning him–Libby still has fifth amendment protection. So if, say, Congress wanted to ask Libby about Bush and Cheney, Scooter can take the fifth. If Libby was pardoned, he would (ahem) have to tell the truth.

Come on CNN. Mentioning that Bush and Cheney have protected themselves quite nicely by communting Libby's sentence is a really, really, basic part of the story. Why did Scooter lie in the first place? I mean, duh.

Democrat hypocrisy.

It is unbelievable to me that there are people out there so blindly partisan that they are applauding this. I don’t care how conservative one is- these guys (Libby and his higher-ups) exposed a CIA operative during war time. If Libby had been a Democrat he would have been executed as a traitor. Bush has made our country so fiercely partisan the way he has politicized war and science and everything. Very scary.

I don't get it. Yet B.P. agents Ramos & Campeon rot in prison? C'mon. Talk about your excessive sentences! Libby lies and flies. Ramos & Campeon, two American Hispanic blue collar guys w/ kids & wives, convicted on the testemony of a Mexican drug dealer granted immunity (who then got caught AGAIN smuggling drugs) do time?!! In their case Bush said he was confident in the jury's decision. I suppose it all comes down to who your friends are.

Unfortunately, this is just what I have come to expect from the Bush Administration.

Mr. Bush clearly feels that he and his are above both the law and popular opinion, and feels that he can do what he wants. This will, I think, spell death for the Republican's hopes in the next election, as the backlash from the Libby fiasco will echo for years.

David Westin, Dallas, Texas   July 2nd, 2007 11:58 pm ET

I wish I could say this is surprising. This is just another example of the Bush administration’s lack of respect for the importance of ethics, justice, and integrity. When will congress finally begin talking about impeachment?

Jeff G., Portland, Maine   July 2nd, 2007 11:47 pm ET

George W Bush has provided another example of why the US is declining as a world leading democracy and example to the rest of the world – blowing the cover of a government agent who operated covertly for the US, her work and network of contacts. How many people have been hurt or possibly killed by this.

Question – Why should government agencies or the military defend a country that is an empty shell of it's former self?

Answer – Don't bother.

Joyce, Dayton Ohio   July 2nd, 2007 11:34 pm ET

I am disgusted. The President has turned it all upside down: America doesn't even mean the same thing any more. Justice? How about bald-faced favoritism? What about justice for the people who spend their lives in secret service, in defense of the country? Do we pardon actions that may have contributed to an anonymous star on the wall? Does it matter?

Bush's pardon of Libby is another example that there are two sets of laws i.e. one for those with power and those with friends in power and another for the ordinary citizens.
It pays to have freinds in high places.
Thus the US President has no moral right when his example is followed by other countries' leaders in ignoring the illegal acts of their friends who may be guilty of criminal acts or major frauds.

By the president commuting the sentence of Libby, is like laughing at our entire justice system. It should not matter what our social, economic, or political rank is in our society, we all have to follow that laws that are place in this country. If any other man or woman were to be charged with the crimes that Libby was convicted of, they went be sent to prison without hesitation. This just goes to show that when you have friends in high places that they will cover for you. Maybe our President should review the laws that were written and base some of his own decisions in how he runs this country. I highly doubt this will get him anywhere in the polls, but to the very bottom.

Two men who deserve pardons are sitting in federal prisons right now and that is Boarder Patrol Agents Ramos & Compean. Wasn’t it just 160 days ago, that Bush said he would only consider pardons for anyone after they completed their time. Everyone must have their cases fully reviewed by the DOJ and he would act on their recommendation.

These two men of honor shot a drug smuggling illegal alien and have spent 160 days so far in Federal Prison. Both of these men were public servants who had no priors. They have support of congressional representatives and senators from both sides, but Bush does not care because they are not the rich elite.

President Bush must go. He has no clue what the people of the country want; better yet, I agree he doesn’t care. I agree Libby should at least serve the same amount of time that the agents have spent in jail so far.

Another reason to hate George W. Bush.

The sentence wasn't EXCESSIVE, it was within the guidelines. What kind of message does this send? That it is OK to lie to a grand jury – did he also commute the sentences of other inmates convicted of the same crime who are serving similar sentences? He gives one man his freedom but did he think to do the same of the others? Oh I forgot, they weren't an insider working in the office of the criminal Vice President.

Libby was not the leaker and much like your beloved Bill Clinton, guilty of a bad memory.

Which is more believable, someone forgetting a meaningless conversation or someone forgetting having sex with an intern?

How many crooks/friends did Clinton pardon on the way out the door?

Mark Rich paid a million dollars to the library after Billy boy pardoned him.

This is not a full pardon, 2 years probation and a hefty, hefty fine.

Rich   July 2nd, 2007 9:02 pm ET

Scooter Libby was a scapegoat and did not deserve to spend one single day in prison.

Unfortunatley the US Government can make a scapegoat out of any citizen it chooses. Sad commentary.

Madame Dufarge   July 2nd, 2007 8:52 pm ET

Just checked out whitehouse.org.
At least W (Wimp) had the grace not to put Scooter's dilemnna on news there.
Or should I say, the shame not to...

P. Parsons, Seattle, WA   July 2nd, 2007 8:49 pm ET

I am glad he got off my only problem is can President Bush help me with my no seatbelt ticket?
Power to the corrupt!

Eugene Dunn, Arlington Washington   July 2nd, 2007 8:43 pm ET

I have never been a fan of George Bush, but this is the first time I have been moved to call him contemptible. The law should be changed so that no President may pardon his own administration's present or past members. This was an egregious abuse of authority, and the President deserves to be booed in public for it.

Bill W, Coatesville, PA   July 2nd, 2007 8:33 pm ET

I seem to recall another CNN article that was posted in the past couple of weeks, where John Edwards talked about "2 Americas" – and was knocked for it. Well, are there "2 Americas"? What do you think NOW?

philip barry miami florida   July 2nd, 2007 8:28 pm ET

This is an abomination! We as a people need to organize and march on DC.
Not since the Nixon era has so much injustice been slapped in the faces of the American people. The legacy of George Bush will be his dishonesty. His administration has ruined the reputation of all Americans.

MCD, San Francisco, CA   July 2nd, 2007 8:26 pm ET

I can't believe that anybody with a brain would compare what Scooter lied about to what Clinton lied about. That has to be one of the dumbest arguments I have ever heard!

Bob, San Francisco, CA   July 2nd, 2007 8:25 pm ET

Only an idiot would compare Clinton's sexual/personal matter with one of national security (the same people who compare 9/11 as a justification for invading Iraq?). I mean, we all know Libby was only a fall guy, but c'mon! I used to teach American civics proudly as a teacher, but these days I feel like an unbeliever in a church, if you know what I mean.
What are we going to do about this? Nothing, I bet. Just shut up and see what Paris Hilton is doing next!

Bruce Kidder, Grafield,NJ   July 2nd, 2007 7:58 pm ET

spirhed33, SF CA   July 2nd, 2007 7:58 pm ET

Do you really think the executive branch would have cared about Libby's sentence if the incident didn't have roots from higher up? It shouldn't surprise anyone that this administration is trying so desparately to keep things under wraps.

$10 says Bush pardon's Cheney, Libby, and Rove a couple of days before he's supposed to leave the White House. Then he resigns to leave Cheney as president for those last days. Cheney will usher in the Apocolypse shortly before pardoning Bush for everything he's done wrong. Then the term will be over. Good luck next term Mr/Mrs. Next-President!!!

Ann Hoppes, Apple Valley, California   July 2nd, 2007 7:52 pm ET

OK GEORGE BUSH, NOW, THAT YOU PARDONED A RICH POLITICIAN BUDDY GIVE A COMPLETE PARDON TO THE TWO TEXAS BORDER PATROL AGENTS YOU HELPED SEND TO PRISON FOR 11 YEARS FOR DOING THEIR JOB OF PROTECTING AMERICA FROM ILLEGALS AND TERRORISTS INVADING OUR COUNTRY ALONG THE TEXAS BORDER, GEORGE, THAT IS YOUR STATE!!!! I AM BEGINNING TO WONDER IF YOU HAVE SOME MONETARY INTEREST IN ALL THE ILLEGALS AND DRUG DEALERS AND RUNNERS COMING ACROSS OUR BORDERS. GOT A LITTLE BUSINESS GOING ON THE SIDE????? TIME FOR A REVOLUTION AND THE OUSTER OF AN IMCOMPETENT BUSHWACKER PRESIDENT. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN. IMPEACHMENT SHOULD BE THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA!!!

Adam, San Francisco, CA   July 2nd, 2007 7:51 pm ET

This is just another example of how stupid W is – remember this when you want to vote for a Republican!!!!

Anita, Fayetteville, N.C.   July 2nd, 2007 7:48 pm ET

It seems that once again this administration has ignored the people who elected it (and those that did not as well) in favor of their favorite game - we have the ball and if you don't like it, too bad.
To commute Scooter Libby's sentence is one more sneer at America.

Niquie, Westlake Village, CA   July 2nd, 2007 7:48 pm ET

IMPEACH!!

Sue, Newberry, SC   July 2nd, 2007 7:44 pm ET

This move proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bush/Cheney authorized the leak.
Karl Rove still works for the White House–
Wondering, how much money did Scooter require for his silence?
Sad to say, within a year he will be appearing on Fox for his "fair reporting" on politics.
This day is more than disgraceful, it is frightening.
Shame on you, George Bush–
No, I will no longer dignify your name with the respected title of president.
Heaven help us all...

Nancy P, Madison WI   July 2nd, 2007 7:43 pm ET

Big freaking deal... Clinton still got to be President and he lied. Scooter's life is forever changed due to having a felony. He did not need to go to prison for what happened (if it really happened.) He can no longer be a lawyer and his reputation is destroyed and he is still young yet. Get over it and move on. Just like Reid or Pelosi said "It was a glimmer of accountability.." you know darn well then that Scooter was a scapegoat to at least get someone for something and not caring that the penalty was too stiff. I can't stand Bush anymore myself, but no way on God's green earth are the Dems and Libs any better. So, check your own doorstep.

Berkeley, CA   July 2nd, 2007 7:29 pm ET

America, your anger must be translated into action. They lied to us about the war in Iraq and now this. We don't have to take it anymore! Here, no one should be above the law. We must not let these criminals continue to wreak havoc on our democracy without legal consequences. Its time for a better America – one that is responsible and respectable in the world and shows care for its citizens. Take action and impeach now. Make your representatives accountable for what they do! Use your voice! Get creative and make it happen!

Joe B Peoria AZ   July 2nd, 2007 7:28 pm ET

I can't believe that some STILL support this administration. SAD.

Jean Cowsert   July 2nd, 2007 7:23 pm ET

This is just another slap in the face to Justice in our country.

I wonder where are represenatives are when these kind of actions are taken. Under their desks? Stand up and fight this man before he completely destroys this country. It is on the very edge as it is due to him.

We citizens scream for equal justice for the executive branch as much as for the general population.

This action is another of his crimes and misameaners. He should be impeached as soon as posibble.

Just Disgusted, North Hollywood, CA   July 2nd, 2007 7:20 pm ET

No wonder Laura wants to get rid of George – he is an idiot! He is sure a lame duck President but it also seems that he has no regard for his other Republicans either. Selfish guy. We can't get rid of him soon enough. Laura should file for divorce NOW.

Diane L., New Port Richey, FL   July 2nd, 2007 7:06 pm ET

It's about time that Libby was commuted by Mr. Bush. I still believe Libby should have been pardoned. By the way, what ever happened with any charges, convictions or sentences brought against Sandy Berger for his actual theft of confidential/classified government documents?? Let Washington think about that one, while they're fuming over Libby's commute!

Ben Byrd - Jacksonville, Florida   July 2nd, 2007 7:04 pm ET

The commutation of Scooter Libby is just another example of arrogance of power that has been permeated this administration since their ascension to power. I am a life-long Goldwater Republican and I voted for this current bunch SOB's, one time only, and for that I humbly ask the countries forgiveness. Not only did they falsify data to justify the war in Irag, but now the Cheney/Bush presidency has now crowned itself with the power to disregard our court system and the vote of the jury. Why not disband Congress, shut down the courts and let the Cheney/Bush presidency make all the decisions without review. It seems they have already assumed the mantle of old royalty.
Goldwater would be ashamed to be called a Republican.

Jack, Livermore, Ca   July 2nd, 2007 7:04 pm ET

George Bush just sent a signal to all others in his corrupt administration – don't worry about the Grand Jury's and Courts – just lie like "Scotter" and I'll let you go free! And you'll all get a pardon just before I leave!

Impeach Dick and George NOW!

Ryan, Studio City, CA   July 2nd, 2007 7:02 pm ET

Hard to compare Clintons problem with lying about a National Security matter; and with a Republican Judge. To all of you who think it is the same as Clinton – shame on you. They are not one in the same and certainly if you think so – darn – wish you gone to school to learn how to think.

Jeff , San Francisco, CA   July 2nd, 2007 6:58 pm ET

This whole gang live outside the law and consider themselves above it. Shameless!

Blue Crab Boulevard » Bush Commutes Libby Jail Sentence   July 2nd, 2007 6:56 pm ET

West Columbia, SC   July 2nd, 2007 6:53 pm ET

"I won't talk, if you get me out of jail..."

David, Tallahassee FL   July 2nd, 2007 6:52 pm ET

Unbelievable.
It this "character matters, unless you're a Republican" attitude that drove me away from the Republican party, which I had been a member.
At to the apologists who claim, "Well, Clinton did it too," Clinton was disbarred, and can no longer practice law (among other punishments) and thus was punished for his actions.
Our judicial system is a joke.

Anne, North Hollywood, CA   July 2nd, 2007 6:44 pm ET

This stinks! This President is out of control. Fair sentencing for the crimes Mr. Libby was found guilty of have been commuted because of who Libby knew and was covering for. Shame on President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. They should both be removed from Office because of the lies and maniputations they have done. I worry that these United States will be irreparably harmed by further decisions made and implemented by Bush and Cheney.

P J Evans   July 2nd, 2007 6:44 pm ET

@#$%^&*(!!!

I want Libby to serve at least a day.

I want Gonzales, Cheney, and Bush impeached, in that order, preceedings to start ASAP.

Glenn, Birmingham   July 2nd, 2007 6:42 pm ET

This seems a correct way to solve this overblown problem.I think a full pardon would have been wrong.

Bill W, Coatesville, PA   July 2nd, 2007 6:39 pm ET

What an outright crock of s**t!

Once again, Bush and his buddies are above the law.

I sincerely hope this motivates the Democrats to reconsider impeaching this SOB!!

Bob Earl, Miami, Florida   July 2nd, 2007 6:38 pm ET

Dear President Bush,
ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS NOT GIVING A DAMN ABOUT OUR COUNTRY OR ITS CITIZENS.
THIS IS WHY OUR BORDERS REMAIN UNPROTECTED FROM TERROISTS.
WATCH CNN FOR THE NEXT REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRAT STORY ABOUT NOT CARING ABOUT ALL OF US. THERE ARE NUMEROUS EXAMPLES EVERY DAY.
Time for a rEVOLution!
STOP BAD GOVERNMENT! NOW!!

Brad, Carlisle PA   July 2nd, 2007 6:35 pm ET

So how many millions of dollars were spent on this trial? Wouldn't it have been more economical for Bush to just step in right at the beginning and say "I know he is guilty but even if you convict I am never goin' let it stick. Save some money"
What is the purpose of the justice system if verdicts can be overturned on the whim of a lame duck president who is only concerned with himself, his ego and his friends?

josh, austin, tx   July 2nd, 2007 6:34 pm ET

Good! He lied under oath. That is what all this is about. Bill Clinton did the exact same thing when he said he "never had sexual relations with that woman" only to find out later that he lied, and he had actually given Monica a pearl necklace in the oval office. So Clinton purjured himself, just like Libby, yet got no fine, no jail time... nothing. So I'll agree that Libby should be in jail if Bill Clinton agrees to do the same thing.

Ernie Alessi, Port St. Lucie, Fl   July 2nd, 2007 6:30 pm ET

Just another example of how the rich and powerful can break the law, and get away with it.It's no wonder the citizens are fully disgusted with our leaders, and lawmakers. The system is never going to change until we get the incumbents out, and clear the decks of the filth and greed. If we don't get organized, it will never change. Wake up people!

Seattle, WA   July 2nd, 2007 6:27 pm ET

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face, It’s just a @!?* piece of paper!”

George W. Bush

Jerry Hill, Templeton, CA   July 2nd, 2007 6:26 pm ET

I am a republican and this makes me sick. Why does the regular Joe go to jail and some get this special treatment. If I was ever to get charged with perjury I expect Bush to do the same for me. Makes you wonder if Bush was afraid he would start talking about other crimes and people connected if he had to do time.

Mike Timmons Seattle   July 2nd, 2007 6:21 pm ET

Now that we have a President that in full view has fulfilled his part of the Valerie Plame bargain.

GWB is driving the getaway car for outing a covert CIA agent in charge of finding loose nukes during a time of war.

If the Democratic Party does not impeach him now, they will NEVER in my lifetime get my vote.

No quid pro quo my gluteas maximus!

Wade, Wilmington NC   July 2nd, 2007 6:20 pm ET

Why hasn’t anyone made the observation that Pres. Bush can still pardon Scotter at the end of his term, and that this way he can avoid most of the flak he and the republicans would receive with a pardon at this time?

Keith , Omaha Nebraska   July 2nd, 2007 6:19 pm ET

What a joke.. This administration is by far the worse in history. George Bush has showed that his friends come first and that everything else comes next.. What about the two border patrol officers whos sentences were not commuted. Those men were actually serving our country. 2008 cant come fast enough, we need new Leadership that cares and enforces the current laws. George has showed disrespect for the courts as well..

Michael, Fort Worth, TX   July 2nd, 2007 6:18 pm ET

What can be said of a sad situation . . . not pardoned but not punished. The fine is inconsequential to a man with money and the personal embarrassment is little with the support of your fellow cronies. While he will not serve again in public life, he will continue to live free and pay no more than lip service to laws of this nation.

Bush is a fool being led helter skelter by a legion of fools.

Pat, San Diego CA   July 2nd, 2007 6:18 pm ET

I am completely disgusted. Not since Clinton pardoned all of his wifes campaign donators, days before the end of his term as president have I see such arrogance. Why on earth do we have judges if your powerful best friends can just step in and make it all go away. $250,000 bucks is nothing. Gee Prez. Are we feeling just a wee bit guilty. Couldn't go through with it could you. I mean send a man to jail for what you and your cronies are responsible for. Even though he still broke the law and lied about it. I wish Libby would come clean and tell what he actually knows. That would be a refreshing day in the King George's kingdom!
