Bush commutes Libby sentence

I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Bush has commuted the prison term of former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who faced 30 months in prison after his March conviction on federal charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators.

Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted in March of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to
investigators probing the 2003 disclosure of CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson's identity. A federal judge in Washington sentenced Libby to prison in June, and a federal appeals court rejected the ex-official's bid to remain free while appealing his conviction earlier Monday.

In a written statement issued hours after that ruling, Bush called 30-month term "excessive." But he also rejected calls for a pardon for Libby, and said the onetime adviser will still have to pay a $250,000 fine and remain on probation for two years.

"The consequences of his felony conviction on his former life as a lawyer, public servant, and private citizen will be long-lasting," Bush said. But he said Libby was given "a harsh sentence based in part on allegations never presented to the jury."

This stinks! This President is out of control. Fair sentencing for the crimes Mr. Libby was found guilty of have been commuted because of who Libby knew and was covering for. Shame on President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. They should both be removed from Office because of the lies and maniputations they have done. I worry that these United States will be irreparably harmed by further decisions made and implemented by Bush and Cheney.

    Unbelievable.
It this "character matters, unless you're a Republican" attitude that drove me away from the Republican party, which I had been a member.
At to the apologists who claim, "Well, Clinton did it too," Clinton was disbarred, and can no longer practice law (among other punishments) and thus was punished for his actions.
Our judicial system is a joke.

Hard to compare Clintons problem with lying about a National Security matter; and with a Republican Judge. To all of you who think it is the same as Clinton – shame on you. They are not one in the same and certainly if you think so – darn – wish you gone to school to learn how to think.

George Bush just sent a signal to all others in his corrupt administration – don't worry about the Grand Jury's and Courts – just lie like "Scotter" and I'll let you go free! And you'll all get a pardon just before I leave!

    Impeach Dick and George NOW!

The commutation of Scooter Libby is just another example of arrogance of power that has been permeated this administration since their ascension to power. I am a life-long Goldwater Republican and I voted for this current bunch SOB's, one time only, and for that I humbly ask the countries forgiveness. Not only did they falsify data to justify the war in Irag, but now the Cheney/Bush presidency has now crowned itself with the power to disregard our court system and the vote of the jury. Why not disband Congress, shut down the courts and let the Cheney/Bush presidency make all the decisions without review. It seems they have already assumed the mantle of old royalty.
Goldwater would be ashamed to be called a Republican.

It's about time that Libby was commuted by Mr. Bush. I still believe Libby should have been pardoned. By the way, what ever happened with any charges, convictions or sentences brought against Sandy Berger for his actual theft of confidential/classified government documents?? Let Washington think about that one, while they're fuming over Libby's commute!

No wonder Laura wants to get rid of George – he is an idiot! He is sure a lame duck President but it also seems that he has no regard for his other Republicans either. Selfish guy. We can't get rid of him soon enough. Laura should file for divorce NOW.

This is just another slap in the face to Justice in our country.

I wonder where are represenatives are when these kind of actions are taken. Under their desks? Stand up and fight this man before he completely destroys this country. It is on the very edge as it is due to him.

We citizens scream for equal justice for the executive branch as much as for the general population.

This action is another of his crimes and misameaners. He should be impeached as soon as posibble.

America, your anger must be translated into action. They lied to us about the war in Iraq and now this. We don't have to take it anymore! Here, no one should be above the law. We must not let these criminals continue to wreak havoc on our democracy without legal consequences. Its time for a better America – one that is responsible and respectable in the world and shows care for its citizens. Take action and impeach now. Make your representatives accountable for what they do! Use your voice! Get creative and make it happen!

Big freaking deal... Clinton still got to be President and he lied. Scooter's life is forever changed due to having a felony. He did not need to go to prison for what happened (if it really happened.) He can no longer be a lawyer and his reputation is destroyed and he is still young yet. Get over it and move on. Just like Reid or Pelosi said "It was a glimmer of accountability.." you know darn well then that Scooter was a scapegoat to at least get someone for something and not caring that the penalty was too stiff. I can't stand Bush anymore myself, but no way on God's green earth are the Dems and Libs any better. So, check your own doorstep.

This move proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bush/Cheney authorized the leak.
Karl Rove still works for the White House–
Wondering, how much money did Scooter require for his silence?
Sad to say, within a year he will be appearing on Fox for his "fair reporting" on politics.
This day is more than disgraceful, it is frightening.
    Shame on you, George Bush–
No, I will no longer dignify your name with the respected title of president.
    Heaven help us all...

It seems that once again this administration has ignored the people who elected it (and those that did not as well) in favor of their favorite game - we have the ball and if you don't like it, too bad.
To commute Scooter Libby's sentence is one more sneer at America.

Do you really think the executive branch would have cared about Libby's sentence if the incident didn't have roots from higher up? It shouldn't surprise anyone that this administration is trying so desparately to keep things under wraps.

$10 says Bush pardon's Cheney, Libby, and Rove a couple of days before he's supposed to leave the White House. Then he resigns to leave Cheney as president for those last days. Cheney will usher in the Apocolypse shortly before pardoning Bush for everything he's done wrong. Then the term will be over. Good luck next term Mr/Mrs. Next-President!!!

Only an idiot would compare Clinton's sexual/personal matter with one of national security (the same people who compare 9/11 as a justification for invading Iraq?). I mean, we all know Libby was only a fall guy, but c'mon! I used to teach American civics proudly as a teacher, but these days I feel like an unbeliever in a church, if you know what I mean.
What are we going to do about this? Nothing, I bet. Just shut up and see what Paris Hilton is doing next!
