Bush hosts Putin in Maine, tries to revive rapport

Watch CNN's Ed Henry report on Putin's arrival to the United States.

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (Reuters) - President Bush sought to rekindle the rapport he once had with Vladimir Putin on Sunday, as he hosted the Russian president at his family's oceanfront home for talks on Iran, a proposed U.S. missile shield and independence for Kosovo.

A few hours before Putin arrived, more than a thousand protesters rallied near the Kennebunkport summer house of Bush's father, former President George H.W. Bush, to vent anger over the Iraq war and U.S. foreign policy.

Ties between the United States and Russia have become badly frayed over issues such as a U.S. plan to base a missile shield in Eastern Europe and Washington's accusations that Russia is rolling back democratic reforms.

Is there a requirement that this money be publicly accounted for and will the donors names be published?

GEE another Nation that decided to disagree with the Bush Administration's arrogance!

What was Putin thinking? Gosh I thought everyone knew "Bush is the Decider." He decides what every Nation every around the world is going to do and then each Nation is JUST SUPPOSED TO DO WHAT HE HAS DECIDED FOR THEM!!

Bush wants – to base a missile shield in Eastern Europe. How dare anyone stand in his way of progress! Poor Georgie. Putin should have known, every Nation around the world is supposed to KowTow to Bush's every desire! If your not with him your against him remember! Sadly there seems to be many more Nations against him than with him presently!

If his effort to rekindle the rapport (he once had) with Putin succeeds it will be the only success at rekindling anything he will be able to claim victory on!

I know, I know, CNN won't keep this comment because it doesn't agree with what they want to hear. However, I believe Bush will accomplish much in this atmosphere with Putin. You know, maybe I'm just old, but a little respect in these comments would go a long way in giving the impression we were an educated people. But alas, Dems do not spawn intelligent thought processes.
