Edwards says money not deciding factor in race.

MOULTONBOROUGH, N.H. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is downplaying the huge fund-raising advantage his chief rivals have amassed.

Hilary Clinton raised more than 22 (m) million dollars in the second quarter. Barack Obama came up with a whopping 32 and a-half (m) million.

The Edwards campaign pulled in nine (m) million dollars, but he says he's on target to have all it'll take to compete seriously in the early states where the nomination will likely be decided.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Edwards says money won't be the deciding factor. He says Democrats want to win the White House and will nominate somebody who can. As he puts it, "This is not an intellectual exercise."

Edwards and his family are taking a three-day break from the campaign. And they're doing it at a photo-op-perfect vacation cottage in New Hampshire, which is the first of the primary states. As Edwards notes, there's never a "complete break" in a presidential campaign. He says this is "about as relaxed as it can be."

Glad my child doesn’t attend UCLA, the brainwashing would be brutal.

Posting the same capital letter rant on every CNN blog is pure “genius”.

I doubt it would be brainwashing, more likely your child would be failing for disagreeing. I get the feeling our prof is one of those people who has to fail people who disagree with him to inflate his own sense of self worth, because hes clearly smarter than all of us…

John Edwards is really the only Democratic candidate with a chance to win the presidency. Obama and Clinton represent more of the same, style (not over but) without substance. With each passing debate, we learn more from Edwards about what can be done to improve the country rather than the host of platitudes regarding the war in Iraq, healthcare and racial pandering common amongst other serious contenders. Enjoy your vacation Mr. Edwards. The race for 2008 truly is a marathon for votes not a sprint for cash. Money corrupts the electoral process. It is good to know your priorities are in order.

FORGET EDWARDS….PRESIDENT BUSH JR. SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPEACHED 2 YEARS AGO OVER THE IRAQI 'W.M.D.' LIES. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN DONE BY THE DEMOCRATS WHEN REPUBLICANS PUT BILL CLINTON THOUGH THIS HELL FOR ONLY HAVING SEX WITH AN AIDE?? ARE THESE 2 PARTIES IN CAHOOTS? SOMETHING'S GONE VERY WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY TODAY!

Hell, at least he gets media attention. Ron Paul gets nothing although he's got the most grassroots support of any candidate, Democrat or Republican. Sorry, JE, they won't let you win if you want to bring up the subject of poverty…

It's good for Edwards supporters that the news media is playing up Obama and Clinton this far out. The burn out will come in due time. John Edwards should emerge as the clear cut choice by primary time.

too bad, edwards does not have much of either …

He's absolutely right, but in this country of Paris Hilton worship, those with the biggest celebrity status seem to win most of the time. I mean, seriously, couldn't the Republican party, for example, come up with some more intelligent candidates? And I like Hilary, Obama, and Edwards, but they have to play this celebrity game as well. I'm tired of the lesser of two evils. The two party system needs to change.

Every hair comment adds to my confidence that Edward really has the Republicans scared.

He keeps talking substance. And I love his lack of cynicism. He remains hopeful, active and thoughtful.

I don't know if Edwards can get the nomination but I know he would win, if nominated. That's also what the polls show. We're counting on you, Iowa. Keep this guy front and center.

Why no coverage of (10 term) Congressman Ron Paul (MD) winning the straw poll in New Hampshire yesterday?

If one of the MSM candidates would have won, you SURELY would have posted a story. Hell, you evern post stories about Rudy reading a book on NASCAR.

Will - Miami, FL   July 8th, 2007 1:23 pm ET

I don't see CNN posting articles like this related to Ron Paul. Why do you think that is?

He's the only HONEST patriot in politics. Check his 10 term Congressional voting record!
