Those who oppose gay marriage on the grounds that they are protecting "the sanctity of marriage" should wake up and look at themselves and the world around them. Do you know or have you known of heterosexuals who cheat on their spouses, who have a line of divorces to their credit, who have several families as a result of multiple marriages, who annul a previous marriage and bastardize the children from it in order to have a church wedding with their latest fling? Let's face it: Homosexual couples can't make the institution of marriage a bigger joke than some heterosexual couples have already made of it. In fact, by indicating that marriage is a desirable institution, gays might actually make it attractive to those heterosexuals who use coupling as a great indoor sport. As for the Conservative Republicans who preach about the sanctity of marriage and then prove themselves liars and hypocrites by their own adulteries: You talked the talk, so you better walk the walk. Otherwise, shut up and stop throwing stones while living in your own glass house.

I certainly have to agree with the person who brought up gays and the sanctity of marriage. I'd say heterosexual cheaters ruin a lot more marriages than the gay couple who lives down the street.

To answer you question Mr. Anonymous I don’t care what my politician does behind closed doors as long as it’s not illegal. As long as they do a good job concerning what he or she was elected for.

Affairs happen, go to counseling and move on. But condoning prostitution, rape and sexual harassment are different.

Americans tend to hold the Republicans, especially Conservative Republicans to a higher standard. This actually makes sense, if you think about it.

Conservative Republicans advocate societal principles which are more aligned with the Bible than anything else, quite honestly. So, when a Conservative Republican falls into sin, such as adultery, we should expect that Americans will want to rip into that politician.

However, while Conservative Republicans have a moral obligation to live a blameless life, in light of the political / social positions they take, let's all keep in mind that they are still human and still subject to sin and failure.

Personally, I am heart-broken to find out about what Senator Vitter did. I think he did a magnificent job, helping to defeat the immigration reform bill recently. He has done a magnificent job on other legislation too. So, it is disappointing to see this news, however, I do think in this instance, we should be graceful to him in our rhetoric. He sinned, yes. He repented, yes. He genuinely is humbled by this humiliating experience with the media reports.

Since we all, as humans, are subject to fall into sin if we are not prudent, we should think about the turmoil that he is personally enduring right now. I praise God that I've never done such wickedness, however, I can't imagine how bad he must feel right at this time.

I agree, Giuliani is an immoral man and as a Conservative Republican I do not support him at all. I can't understand any American supporting him, quite honestly. I also can't imagine Newt Gingrich running for President either, considering all of his marriages / re-marriages and adulteries. Is this the kind of moral majority he's advocating?

I pray that Senator Vitter can overcome this time in his life.

"Personal issue"!?! I'm no lawyer, but I thought soliciting sexual acts from a prostitute is illegal in the greater D.C. area. I can't believe that Sin. Vitter is going around saying, "It's all cool everybody, no need to look any further into this, I've talked to my wife and God, and they've forgiven me. Just go about your business and give me my personal space." I think he still needs to go in front of 12 of his peers and explain to them what he's been up to, and then after they've decided how they feel, he can go back to his constituency and explain things to them as well.

I can’t believe these republicans. Not just the ones in office who change hats based upon who receives the butt end of the deal, but even the ones on this site (Victor). All the "bashers" of republicans just want to see justice.

If you’re going to impeach a president for receiving sexual favors from a secretary than be upset when a senator spends $2 million on a hooker, oh excuse me “escort service”.

If you’re going to be mad at the fact that Bill lied about sex, just like any other married man would, then be mad when any president lies. If it was about principals then the rules apply to everyone.

Republicans started this game, but they become upset when democrats begin to participate.

Vitter was a co-author of the Federal Marriage Act and was a staunch supporter of Bill Clinton getting impeached and yet he cheats on his wife and everything's ok. Just because you say it was a sin that God forgave you for committing doesn't mean you're not a hypocrite in every sense of the word.

Everyone is flawed...not just Rudy and Vetter. No one is perfect and Rudy never professed to be. And besides, cheating on his wife is different from cheating by hiring a prostitute (which is illegal in DC and most of America). Such audacity to finger just the Republicans as being hypocrites! There are hypocrites on both sides!

So while that wasn't the best of moves by Vitter, it seems as if Giuliani could not be any stupider. Does he seriously think that people just completely forgot about his adultery? I just...don't understand it. It's not that I'm mad at him for being a hypocrite really. It's just...that either he is that colossally stupid, or he thinks the public is. Either way, it's infuriating.

Good quote by the Violent Femmes.

That makes 2 sinister characters working with Rudy...the SC treasurer who was dealing cocaine (large amounts by the way) on the side, now this jerk who is paying a hooker while attacking the left as being immormal.

The reality is that these chumps are just the few that have been caught. I'm sure there are dozens more that have not.

Gee..I bet everyone here who is bashing Rudy is squeaky clean, huh? Has everyone here never broken one of the 10 Commandments? Gee, the liberals out there, particularly the ones on this site, are so quick to bash Republicans but very quick to defend Democrats. I’m sure Bill Clinton wouldn’t have a problem with Vitter either.

Yeah and how many liberals, democrats, independants are puffing out their chests and claiming to be Strong Moral Leaders who want to "defend traditional marriage"? We could care less what the man does in his bedroom or the bedroom of his paid prostitute, it's the hypocrisy of claiming to support strong, traditional values, and run as a family man when he has skeletons like these in his closet.

Am I really the first Louisianian to comment on this....? Wow. That's depressing.

To answer Kevin from Norfolk, Yes, Vitter is one of "those family values Republicans". In fact he is the first Republican elected to the Senate from this state since Reconstruction, and now I imagine, the last for some time to come.

Impropriety and ethics aside, I think this only adds to the monumnetal problems facing the state as it is. We did not need William Jefferson's supposed wrongdoing, nor do we need this from Vitter. We are fighting an uphill battle in Washington to properly address serious ongoing needs after Katrina and Rita. The Bayou State's legacy of corrupt politicians already cripples needed credibility on The Hill, and, at this point, those in office serving this state have far more on the line than their political reputations. We are a good, hard working people, but obviously a people with bad judgement when it comes to our elected officials. Sadly, we as a state will likely pay a far greater price in the long run for his actions than he will.

I've spoken with the senator face to face on many occaisions. I will likely have many new things to ask him about next time I have the opportunity.

These Republicans are so hypocritical it's laughable. Keep in mind wingnuts, it isn't Democrats who are always talking about family values, morality and God. Our candidates aren't moral enough to be president but their's commit the same sins (or worse), get caught, come to Jesus and all is foregiven. How gullible can you be? There should be a movement to remove the wingnuts right to vote. They've demonstrated their inability to exercise that right responsibly. If it were up to them our government would be made up of Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Strickland, Jim Bakker, Duke Cunningham and Newt Gingrich, good loyal god loving patriotic Americans all.

Well, other than a few white lies, mostly when I was a child - YES, VICTOR, I AM SQUEEKY CLEAN. And a heck of a lot of people I know and associate with are and they are liberals. We don't lie, don't cheat, don't commit adultry or think about committing adultry, don't kill, disrespect my parents, take G-d's name in vain or any of the other top 10.

What a bunch of excrement - it's getting harder and harder to paint all liberals with the sin brush, isn't it? And in case you didn't know, there are a heck of a lot more sins than the 10 commandments? How about not thinking about buggering children? Or not lying to a Federal Grand Jury?

Get the picture, hypocrites? There are a heck of a lot of people who don't break any of the commandments. As far as the conservatives seem to be concerned, it's all about forgiveness, unless or until it's someone they don't like committing the sins, then THEY BRING UP JUNK FROM MORE THAN 10 YEARS AGO.

Earth to Victor of Lake Mary, Fl... it's not that Democrats are squeaky clean. We're all flawed because we're human. The problem is the continued hypocrisy of conservatives regarding this issue. It's an abomination when a loving and committed gay couple want to marry and a constitutional amendment is in order , but it's a mere "disappointment" when a Republican commits adultery. I cringe at the thought of Newt Gingrich sleeping around on his wife while prosecuting Clinton for dishonoring the Oval Office with a lie about oral sex. Then there's King George commuting Libby's sentence on a quid-pro-quo favor, scared that Libby might get bored in prison one day and take pen to paper to write the great Bush expose. The hypocrisy is mind-boggling!

Thrice married philanderer, who's 2nd wife had to get a restaining order in order to keep his mistress away from their children, is "disappointed" in his Southern Regional Chair for having an affair on his wife with a prostitute.
Of course, when you're Rudy Giuliani you have a long history of hiring felons with Mafia ties, cocaine dealers, bigots and now, philanderers.
You can see what a Giuliani cabinet would look like alot clearer now.

We should forgive him as well, however, he doesn't deserve to serve the people any longer. He might be more useful in the private sector. It's your decision LA citizens.

Maybe it's not his fault. Perhaps if people were allowed to do what they wanted with their bodies... like prostitution, it wouldn't be so bad.

What year are we living in? Is this a free country? If someone wants to sell their body for sex, how is that illegal?

If it were legal, it could be regulated, safe, and discrete. The industry works fine in Nevada.

Maybe it's not his problem as much as America's problem for not legalizing the oldest profession.

Rudy is an example of fear mongering. He THINKS he can pull victory in 2008 election by fear mongering! Do you know Rudy dressed up as a drag queen, and marched on the street of New York in during gay pride? Do you want your leader to dress like a drag queen? Do not get me wrong. I am not anti gay or anti drag queen, but I do not want my Preseident to dress up, like a drag queen, like Rudy did. Is it conservative? Do you call Rudy a conservative when he lives with bunch of males?

Umm, hypocrite much, Rudy?

Didn't we get to see the spectacle of you wanting to move your mistress into the mayor's mansion while your *wife* still lived there? And you are disappointed in the actions of someone else?

Pot call kettle black.

It seems like a lot of people disappoint him. Bernard Kerik, for one, his ex-wife, maybe even his children (who no longer speak to him). I wonder who's next. Maybe the American public if he is not elected President.

Agreed. Let's not forget that Vitter is vehemenently anti-gay marriage, saying that is ruins the sancitity of marriage. I think hiring a ho is ruining the sancitity of marriage a little more than two people of the same sex who might actually appreciate it.

LOL it's good to see the professed adulterer "disappointed" in Vitter's choice to um, commit adultery. Bravo.

It's amazing how when it is something like adultery or multiple divorces, that it is a "private matter" yet if a loving gay couple wants to marry, well that's call for a Constitutional amendment. What utter BS. If this crowd truly cares about the sanctity of marriage, they will make ADULTERY a crime. Put your money where your mouth is rather than giving it to a prostitute.
