Its about time someone stood up to this fraud for what he is: a guy who made a career after 9/11. Its one thing to give a guys some political leeway for just being the mayor at such a tragic time, but that by no means makes him a good leader like everyone says he is. People like him and Bush need to stop crying about 9/11 to pick up some votes.

I met his daughter once and she says he's a disgusting man.

Finally, someone realize that Giuliani is not a leader. Outside New York, he is only recognized for September 11. That is is only fuel igniting the fire. He never listened to the people of New York as a Mayor and he sure won't as a President. So many small business owners thriving to survive in New York lost their business because a voice that never understand the middle and lower class muffle their cries.

If any candidate in this race deserves
this, it's ex-Mayor Guiliani, tough on what...he wasn't around long enough to be tough on anything, except bums, and
graffiti. He failed on 9/11 and everyone that doesn't live in NYC should know it, he's got the people of Iowa, NH and SC fooled, now they know the truth about Rudy.

How drugged up and oblivious to FACT and REASON are some Americans?

Take Dorothy of Standish, Maine:

"Who in this country aside from the terrorists plotting this horrible attack, could ever have imagined such unspeakable horrors. No one was prepared for such an event".

Um, Dot, do you get all your news from Fox? The FBI, the CIA, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES all knew that there was the possibility of terrorists flying planes into buildings. Condy Rice showed Bush the memo while he took a month off to clear brush in Crawford. The memo said, "Bin Laden determined to attach..." and went on to describe how he might do it.

Rudy Giuliani has profited $100 million from his post-9/11 consultancy. Who cares if the firefighters are Dems are Republicans; the FACTS are clear that Rudy made critical mistakes that COST LIVES. He is an opportunist at best, at criminal at worst.

God Bless Rudy? He'll need a lot more than God's blessing when his judgment day comes.

Dot, get your head out of the sand already. It's been 6 years since 9/11; you need a reality check.

Apparently people aren't getting it. Firefighters advised the radios didn't work. Rudy and his boys took it upon themselves to buy new radios that still didn't work. No testing, no bidding, just push the radios out, Rudy knows best.

Rudy knew best and put his OEM office in the worst possible location no matter how much people who had to work there complained.

Before during and after Rudy's staff had to clear every press release that came out of any department no matter how small it may be. I was at several crime scenes where Rudy walked right in the middle of everything (even though he was told different) and ruin the scene. He is an ego maniac and will ruin this country worse than Bush has.

Why did Giuliani put the Emergency Management Center IN the World Trade Center? Does that sound like a smart idea considering that location was attacked in '93 and was a hot target for terrorists? Why are people so foolish to vote for Giuliani? Why do people let him scare them with his propaganda and fact-less statements?

The only claim to fame Giuliani has is running down the street screaming "Intruder Alert", Intruder Alert". The Fire Fighters, the true hero's, the ones who really know what happened, have spoken. That's good enough for me. I think we owe it to every American that fell that day to expose Giuliani for the cheap opportunist that he is.

What do you mean "New Yorkers don't like Rudy?" Are you kidding me? I suppose that's why he had a 60-40 lead over Hillary in the New York senate race before he withdrew for cancer.

You people really need to get your facts straight!

New Yorkers do not like Guliani. Why should the country? This guy left behind a complete mess in New York City, from the educational system to the budget deficit to the mess of the MTA transit system. His campaign is a joke, he doesn't even know we have partially socialized health care in the US. He had some soundbyte moments on 9/11 and is trying to cash in. Those of here remember him fondly as Wyatt Earp.

WOW, these comment pages really bring out the conspiracy theorists and flat-earthers!

On Rudy, the homeland security guru--I don't see him really running on much other than the fact that he happenned to be mayor at the moment the towers fell and ran down the street to see what happened--pretty thin stuff. Kind of like me holding myself out as a cardiologist because a man had a heart attack in my presence and I called 911.

I'd have to agree with those saying that Giulani gets recognition simply for being the mayor during the attacks. The only way for the mayor (or governor, or president) not to be a 'hero' following that would require a degree of incompetence unheard of from any functioning adult.

I don't want to look at my president and think, "Man, he'll know what to do if we get attacked." I want to look at my president and think, "He's not going to let us get attacked." Yes, it may be unfair to criticize him for not considering two planes crashing into the WTC. And since he's been out of office, he hasn't had the opportunity to prove that he knows how to stop an attack or minimize the damage of one. But in that case, he shouldn't spend all his airtime talking about how he can protect us from evil terrorists. His record doesn't support it. Maybe he should focus on other issues that would help the common American citizen.

Again, I want a president that knows how to keep us safe, not how to respond after we've lost American lives. And, in my opinion, that's not done by more wiretapping or secret prisons; it's done by getting the world to like us again. And if Giulani can't even admit that there is a rational explanation behind such hatred-the federal government's persistent intrusion into foreign countries and holy sites-then he seems incapable of making us safer.

As a New Yorker I just want to address those Red Staters who are asking why the Firemen waited 6 years to make these charges- we here in NYC have been hearing firemen make these complaints for over 5 years. Just because you've never heard them before doesn't mean they didn't exist.

Regardless of how well or how badly you think RG handled the events of 9-11, the point is that one event does not qualify you to be President. One needs to take a broader look at the person's political record and see how he/she has performed when it comes to the issues and leadership ability over the long term.

You should ask yourself what Giuliani's record was prior to 9/11; was he loved or hated by the people that elected him? Did he provide a vision for the city and move it forward or did he use his position to line his and his friend's pockets? What did he do for education, unemployment, crime? If you can't answer any of these questions, then do you really know if he would be a good choice to lead this country?

It's wrong to criticize the actions of anyone that was put in the position RG was during 9/11, it was a tragedy and no amount of preparation could have stopped it. However, it would be another tragedy to put that person in charge of our country based solely on the sympathy created from that same event.

RG was just a shmo in a place on 9/11 and he did a mediocre job at best. There seems to be a desire to paint him as some sort of a hero for God knows what reason. At the same time, his many flaws are beign glossed over. Clearly, if his performance on 9/11 is some sort of pillar on which his campaign is being built, its a one-legged stool with a weak leg.

Yeah I want to blame someone for 9/11!

The blame goes to Rudy Giuliani for his handling as New York Mayor of the devastation that followed.

We always knew it and no body could do anything about it until now. Rudy has the nerve to come out and ask for votes for President no less.

Granted, he is not a good person.

Rudy is not a good candidate for President.

Rudy does not support people...he expects people to support him.

well the public is now on to his game. No one supprots him and no one wnats him to run again.

What did David Dinkins say about this guy when he lost the first time?

New Yorkers knew then Dinkins was better than Giuliani.

Giuliani does not respect political parties chosing to be independent. Maybe if he was truly aligned with a political party eith rep or dem not so many firefighters would have died on 9/11?

Why can't the WTC be rebuilt? Look the same be the same and feel the same? Why does it have to be a tomb with lights? Rudy thats why.

Jon in Sacramento - If you think this is the first time this criticism has come from firefighters, you're very incorrect.

These criticisms have been spoken all along and have been amplified by his run at the presidency. It's too bad that you're just hearing about it for the first time. Obviously the "liberal media" isn't doing a good enough job. Here's one as an example from 2002. Just note that these "liberals" supported Bush in '04.

"Stephen J. Cassidy, the current president of Local 94 whose name appears on the press release endorsing Bush in 2004, has reportedly criticized Giuliani in the past. An October 12, 2002, Newsday article quoted Cassidy as saying that "[a]lthough Giuliani is 'the most despised man in America' among firefighters," they would not stage "an overt protest" at a memorial service that day. Instead, Cassidy told the paper, "We decided that this is a solemn day for our families and our fallen brothers so we decided to tell them they should sit on their hands," rather than having "uniformed firefighters stand and turn their backs on the former mayor."

If you had a criticism, wouldn't you vocalize it more now that the person who you felt let you down believes he can run the entire country?

So, am I correct to understand NYC firefighters DO NOT LIKE Rudy? Hmmm..

Could it be because they had no radios?

No fire protective suits?

Closed local firehouses for funding disputes?

Who ever heard of a man who parlays the death of more than 300 firemen into a Presidential race?

What has Rudy done anyway that supports President Bush or the American people?

Is Rudy really a Republican? Or just an opportunist?

I bet Rudy's big ego loves seeing all the outrage people are sending into CNN. He should remember all the pain and suffering that he could have done something about to at least soften the impact on NYC residents and workers.

Rudy chose to do nothing. He was too busy with his personal life and not his mayoral responsibilities.

GO AWAY RUUDY! What a disgrace.

For those few who defend "America's Mayor": Nobody blames Giuliani for the terrorist attack, but he's rightly condemned for profiting from the event. If it's really Rudy v. Hillary then the end of this country is not far away. And the people (or Diebold) is responsible for it.

No one is blaming Giuliani for 9/11, and only a few are criticizing his reaction to it immediately AFTER it happened. He is being criticized for preparation (not learning lessons from the original WTC attack) and for his seemking glee in using the event to further himself financially and politically. He appears to lack the necessary ethics, or any other qualification, that would make him a good choice for President. If the Republicans were smart they would get him out of the mix, because he can't win and will only steal the spotlight from more serious candidates.

On September 10, 2001, Rudy Giuliani was a lame-duck mayor and the punch-line of many late-nite talk show jokes. On September 11, as mayor of NYC, he basically did the job he was paid to do. A lot of people, including NYC firemen, dont appreciate that he has used the terrible events of that day to reshape his political image. He has also made a personal fortune based on the image constructed that day.

No chance JUDY can ever be considered a viable candidate for President. His claim to fame was 9/11, and quite frankly those tragic events saved his politic life.

I wanted to like Rudy, I really did. Especially after 9/11. But picture after picture kept coming out, and those Yankees games where he'd stand up and just look like he was just absorbing the adoration - looking like he was thinking "President Rudy...I like the sound of that..."

Not to mention the guy said in a speech in 2004 about how we "got the job done in Afghanistan," we were "taking care of business in Iraq," and (worst of all) "thank God George W. Bush is our president." Slimy...

Hopefully American voters will not fall again for the "only I can keep you safe" argument. Your country needs a person with vision and platforms beyond being in "the right place at the right time." One could hardly imagine ANY politician who wouldn't have risen to the occasion of the tragedy of 911. You voted for Bush for the same reason and the rest is history.

Americans and certainly the rest of the world do not deserve more of the same narrow view of the world.

“He’s running on 9/11, and it’s all a fallacy.”

The Deputy Cheif is 100% on the mark and it is painfully obvious that Rudy's entire campaign is based on the premise that he was a "leader" that helped NYC after the 9/11 attack. Yet even is that is true, it hardly qualifies him for President.

It's a shame that the Republicans seem intent on using FEAR-MONGERING and 9/11 as a crutch to get votes.

Americans, would any of you go into a burning high rise without any means to communicate with your central control to evacuate if the situation became life threatening? Probably not, but, firemen and policemen take that risk to save our lives willingly. In comparison, what risk or action did RG take to save even one life on 9/11? His duty was to ensure that the public servants saving lives in the twin towers and the surrounding area were equipped with the proper means and equipment to do so while they themselves had a fighting chance to also survive. We now know he did not fulfill that awesome responsibility. So, how does his action there, make him qualifed to be the leader of the United States. It comes down to trust America. Who do you trust to look after our backs? This leader did a poor job of looking after his most valued servants. I personally don't want me, my family or even you to be sacrifced for another person's mismanagement, financial or political gains. We have already sacrificed too many lifes for a misguided and mismanaged war. When the opposing citizens disagree with a postion 3 or 4 to 1, when does the 1 start to revisit their facts?

I find it ironic that Giuliani can maintain national stature based on 9/11 (in which his only real positive was get on T.V. before Bush, to advocate calm). He certainly has done little for the city since, and I don't think he even spends time here. Once the rest of the nation gets to know him better his campaign will fade. I mean what about 9/11 makes him a hero compared to the rest of us?
He even offered to stay as mayor past his term of office. How very dictatorial.

I guarantee every single one of you was praising Rudy a few years ago. Funny how this changes at election time. I'm not sure who I feel more sorry for -- you or the 'I'll-sell-my-soul-for-anything' firefighter union.

Also, no mention of the many terrorist attacks under Bill's watch. Funny how you libs forget the past. Hmmmm...who shoudl Bill pardon next?

And one more thing for those of you (99.99% filthy libs) who criticize Guiliani for "parlaying" 9/11 to his advantage - how can you say this about him and not say the same about Hillary? Seriously! Stop being pathetic! You're siding with a lying woman who is only a senator because her husband was president. That's the difference - she would be a no one if not for Bill.

Just like a bunch of politicians, try and discredit the working man for voicing his opinions. Shame on the Republicans for trying to smear the credibility of firefighters (aka America's 9/11 Heroes).

I urge everyone to read 102 Minutes by Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn. The facts are there and they are shocking. Rudy Giuliani comes out smelling criminally incompetent, or worse. Giuliani is the ultimate con-man and for him to base his bid for the presidency on anything having to do with 9-11 is not only ludicrous, it is immoral.

Why do I beleive the facts in the book?
Because the authors have excellent reputations, the facts are backed up in spades in the book, and Giuliani has never disputed them (at least not successfully).

Rudi Guliani has led all of us to believe that his presence and "leadership" after 9/11 is sufficient to make him a viable candidate for President of the United States. What did he do that any other Mayor of New York wouldn't have done after such a calamity? If he is the representative of the Republican Party in 2008 for our Country's highest office, he will and should lose.

Leave it to the guys who work like five days a month to run their mouths.

Firefighters are such pains in the ass. Just ask any city attorney who had to negotiate with them. The sense of entitlement they have is pathetic.

I will never understand why Rudy got the label "America's Mayor" and the accolades after 9/11. Would someone please explain any special act he took on 9/11. He went down to the site, went to Washington after, but I never saw him do anything anyone who was Mayor at the time would have done.

He didn't do anything special. He was just the guy in City Hall on that day.

To the people who are saying that this attack was impossible to forsee are forgetting about the failed plot to blow up the WTC before. 9/11 wasn't the first time the WTC has been targeted people. I'm not sure how much it was to lease floor space in the WTC but I know it wasn't cheap. Couldn't the mayor find cheaper office space in a building that didn't say "Target!" all over it? Not fiscally responsible. The WTC was a national & internatioal landmark, a symbol of our country. The intelligence community knew before 9/11 that national landmarks are prime targets for terrorists foriegn and domestic. I doubt Chicago has its Emergency Center in the Sears Tower, at least I hope so.
