Vitter emails supporters

WASHINGTON (CNN) - CNN has obtained an e-mail written by embattled Sen. David Vitter to supporters on Tuesday, the day after he admitted that his telephone number turned up in the phone records of an escort service run by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, dubbed the ‘D.C. Madam.’

Dear Friend,

I write with great sadness, as well as great affection and respect for you as a friend, about disclosures that are appearing today in the media.

I have addressed this matter very directly (referring to the statement given to reporters), and deeply apologize again for letting you and others down. I also write today to say three other things.

First, thank you again for all the love and support you've always offered Wendy and myself. It is one of the greatest gifts we've been blessed with.

Second, our family will be fine, though we certainly appreciate your continuing thoughts and prayers. Those are a great comfort to all of us.

And third, I will live every day always striving to fully honor that friendship and those prayers.

David

Edwards is a loathsome slug, so this kind of backroom comments are par for him. I did, however, expect Hillary would take a higher road. In addition, don't politicians realize that they are ALWAYS on camera or mike? Sheesh. Wake up pols!

    Dear Mr. Vitter:

You are a real jerk. Please do the nation a favor and resign.

Yet another crooked lying 2-faced politician.

Perhaps if we could all admit that we are all human and make mistakes and if people weren't so quick to point fingers, we could avoid all of this nonsense.

I don't know much about Sen. Vitter, but I'm not sure how private sexual matters affect his job performance. Of course this is what open-minded people argued in defense of the witch hunt against Bill Clinton, too. Back then, we were simply dismissed as godless liberals with no values.

    Who claims values now?

It seems the Giuliani campaign has a lockdown on the blow, but the McCain campaign has all the hooker action. Amusing. Maybe they could get together, it'd be a heck of a party.

Par for the course. These guys aren't leaders, they're frat brothers. Washington DC (and NYC, too) needs a cleansing, in a big way.

Who Senator Vitters has sex with is of no interest to me nor do I pass judgment. That's between him and his wife. However, I do take exception to his self righteous, puritanical denouncement of others who do the same thing. He is a hypocrite of the greatest order along with Newt Gingrich and the rest of the right wing touters of moral values.

I THINK THIS CARRYING ON ABOUT DAVID
VITTER IS JUST RIDICULOUS. WE HAVE
MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES TO BE CONCERNED
WITH THAN HIS PRIVATE SEX LIFE. HE DID
A SLIMY THING AS FAR AS CHEATING ON HIS
WIFE, BUT IF WE GOT RID OF EVERY POLITICIAN THAT SLEPT AROUND, WASHINGTON WOULD BE A GHOSTOWN. THEY
ALL DO THINGS THAT ARE WRONG AND THAT
WILL NEVER CHANGE. YOU HAVE TO BE A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR TO BE A POLITICIAN,
    UNFORTUNATLEY WE THE PUBLIC CONTINUE
TO BE STUPID ENOUGH TO BELIEVE WHAT
    THEY SAY.

Of course, there are more important things to focus on, but I'm really tired of people saying this is part of his private life. It's not. Vitter took an oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the US. He paid a prostitute. That act is illegal, so he violated his oath. That is grounds for impeachment. It doesn't matter if anyone forgives him. It doesn't matter whether you agree that prostitution should be illegal. His hypocrisy doesn't even matter. It is the CRIME that matters. He clearly committed the crime and he needs to take responsibility and resign.

I don't care who Vitter has sexual relations with. That is a matter for Vitter and his wife to resolve. Frankly, Vitter's recent public comments re. the failure of the Senate's illegal alien amnesty bill were dead-on. I wonder how many people could escape embarassment if their personal lives were given close scrutiny or private matters deliberately made public. I am more disgusted by the media's willingness to report on sexual escapades of adults than I am by anything Vitter did years age. This whole episode is shameful - for the American news media. Paris Hilton and now this...

Please don't forget the fact that the Hooker was paid. Where did that payment come from? Vitter's personal checking account? Maybe a lobbist treated him to a night of glory. Did the payment come from his pac-money? Someone please anwser this question.

I believe this occurred prior to his becoming a senator. That being said, I still think he's a hypocrite.

The issue is not his private sex life, but his Hypocrisy. Vitters has always presented himself as a Family Values candidate. He has campaigned to "protect" marriage from homosexuals. When Clinton's extramarital affair was revealed, Vitters declared Clinton "Morally Unfit" to govern.

If Clinton was morally unfit, what is Vitters? And if marriage needs protection, should Vitters be the one to protect it?

This past week we not only learned that LA. U.S. Senator David Vitter's name appeared on a D.C. call-girl list of phone numbers but that he is also alleged to have done business with a prostitution business right in his own home state. This Bible thumping, family values hypocrite ran on a campaign of moral values, knowing that he himself, was living a deceitful lie and it's time for him to go!

Enough of these lies from dirty, low down people that pass laws and judgment of other people...laws that often send people to jail or prison and destroy careers & families.

Senator David Vitter must go! And we have placed an online petition demanding that he resign.

Please pass this petition link on to anyone you know that can add their name to the list of those demanding he pack his bags and go back home and pray his wife doesn't do the Lorena Bobbit routine she promised if "her husband" ever pulled a stunt like this!

Sign the petition and please pass it on to every individual you know whether Democrat, Republican, or Independent.

The petition can be found at:

    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ResignNow/index.html

In the interest of honest, fair disclosure & to protect myself from reprisal, I am using an alias name (AKA) because I am involved in other political causes. I have considered running for public office many times and have come to the conclusion that a few misdemeanors on my own record would be a barrier to public service. Rather than run, I direct my energies to helping others with more distinguished records get elected. If public office is beyond the reach of some of us with not-so-perfect records, surely lying, cheating, two-faced hypocrites like Senator Vitter should have the common decency to step down when caught.

I ask you to help me ratchet up the pressure this week and put the heat on Vitter to Resign Now!

    Thank you,
    David Jacobsen

I also take exception to Vitters self righteous, puritanical denouncement of others who do the same thing. David Vitter spends all his time in DC preaching moral values rather than helping solve the problems of middle class America – HE SHOULD RESIGN NOW!

I sincerely doubt the great senator even wrote that himself. Typical D.C. scum. Both sides of the House and Senate are in dire need of an enema.

    >I wonder how many people could escape embarrassment if their personal lives were given close scrutiny or private matters deliberately made public

I could, but then again I'm just a self righteous atheist.

Perhaps with this (and other events) people will wake up and see there is no connection between religion and morality. Religion is just a control structure to indoctrinate youth ensuring they will follow with out question.

What Sen Vitter did was illegal. Certainly we could debate immorality or whether someone's private life impacts his/her fitness to govern, but I'm pretty sure elected officials always have to uphold the law and there is no wiggle room there.
