Huckabee ran a 5K road race in Little Rock, Arkansas earlier this month.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Mike Huckabee raised $764,000 for his presidential campaign from April through June and had $437,000 cash on hand at the end of last month, according to financial reports filed Sunday.

The former Arkansas governor spent nearly $703,000 during those three months. More than half went for payroll, travel, and media and fundraising consultants.

Huckabee has tried to court conservatives to establish himself as an alternative to the leading Republicans in the field — Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. Still, Huckabee's report shows him as a distant contender in the race for contributors.

Arkansas was his most generous state, with donors there providing $3 of every $8 he raised. He also raised nearly $118,000 in Texas.

Overall, Huckabee has raised $1.3 million for the year. He listed $31,000 in debts and obligations.

Huckabee should drop out of the presidential race and run for the senate.

To Max and the other Paul supporters: Didn't say Paul was angry. Just said I preferred my candidates less angry and that's one of the reasons I'm interested in Huckabee.

And yes, I've done my research on Dr. Paul and find that his message is not without some merit. I disagree with some of his positions and agree with others. It's unfortunate, but it's unlikely either candidate will wind up getting the nomination.

I was hoping to hear some discussion of Huckabee on this posting, not a Paul rally.

not calling people who have cell phones is ignoring one of the largest educated segments of the population..

I think ron paul's support is skewed in the polls but i'm not sure what cnn's incentive to ignore his overwhelming jump in support is

Ron Paul is not an ISOLATIONIST, and if you think other wise you need to educate yourself. Trade with all and a strong national defense is not being and isolationist, unless you are so very used to the idea of starting wars everywhere in the world. Get a clue!

"I prefer my candidates less angry."

Dr. Paul isn't very angry. If you would actually do some research on the candidates you will notice that he has one of the most positive campaign messages. Freedom is a positive message.

"The surrender party is not the Republican party"

It sure isn't. I don't like surrendering my freedoms to a distant government power. I also would like to chase terrorists that have hit our country and I do not want our soldiers getting killed in a fight that isn't ours. Let the Iraqi people build their own government, and let us focus on America.

"His popularity is consistantly at about 2% nationwide."

Polling right now is mainly name recognition. Not many people are too informed about the candidates yet.

As for Huckabee, I liked him. Not as much as Dr. Paul, but I still liked him. He is one of the better candidates in my eyes. It's a little disappointing that he raised so little.

Ron Paul has 18,259 volunteers working in 508 Meetup.com groups nationwide, with an additional 3,688 additional volunteers looking to start their own Meetup volunteer group.

Huckabee has 0 volunteers in 0 Meetup Groups.

Ron Paul has more volunteers than all other Democratic AND Republican presidential nominees COMBINED.

That alone is worth hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign contributions by corrupt special interest groups.

The polls mean nothing this early in the race. And furthermore, the polls are not typically calling cell phones, and Ron Paul is especially attractive to the younger voting population that often does not have land lines.

Ron Paul is Bill Maher's "new hero"

'Nuff said.

Dan,W,VT   July 15th, 2007 5:13 pm ET

Enough of the Ron Paul love in. His popularity is consistantly at about 2% nationwide.

Jeff S., San Francisco, CA   July 15th, 2007 5:09 pm ET

Ron Paul is the candidate of love, and his supporters love him! Freedom is the message of love. Freedom is the message of peace. Freedom is the message of abundance. Freedom is the message of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Go Ron Paul 2008!!!

No one is following Ron Paul because Ron Paul is running the same campaign as Pat Buchanan. Paul is a classical conservative. He's for ending the war because America should be an isolationist. Ron Paul's supporters are the type of supporters that would only support Ron Paul. Folks who would vote for Mike Huckabee would probably consider voting for Fred Thompson or Sam Brownback. They are trying to pick between them because they have similar Republican beliefs. While Paul may be a classical conservative, he doesn't necessarilly fit into the parameters of a current Reaganesque Republican. So if everyone drops out of the campaign except Thompson and Ron Paul, Ron Paul would have pretty much the same percentage as the he does now, while Thompson would have nearly all of McCain's, Romney's, Huckabee's. It's not supposed to be a two party system, but it is one. The surrender party is not the Republican party, so Paul will probably not win no matter how much press he gets. Thanks for you time.

Garrett Indianapolis, IN   July 15th, 2007 3:55 pm ET

Boy it would be nice if you gave Ron Paul the attention that you give Huckabee. CNN even had readers chime in on how they can avoid blacklisting Ron in the future. Guess they didn't really care what we had to say. Maybe it's time to give up on mainstream media altogether. If that's the only way you can keep Dr. No down, then we'll find another route. Thanks for your time, and GO RON PAUL

Bruce, Franklin, TN   July 15th, 2007 3:17 pm ET

Actually, Huckabee is the man for me. I prefer my candidates less angry.

bret, atl, ga   July 15th, 2007 3:04 pm ET

The Message of Liberty is optimistic and hopeful. It is not easy, though. If you want someone to tell you everything is peachy-keen and gonna be just fine, then feel free to keep hanging out with people who will never get you anywhere. If you are ready to face the hard truth and move forward, in a positive way, then Ron Paul is the man for you.

Bruce, Franklin, TN   July 15th, 2007 2:58 pm ET

Huckabee is the only candidate I've heard that has an optimistic and positive message. That includes Ron Paul.

Michael, Buffalo, New York   July 15th, 2007 2:25 pm ET

Ron Paul is once again showing the old establishment media he is the story of this campaign…Yet you still continue to ignore him…except to say he can't win here and there.

No wonder your ratings are dropping on the TV news networks when you won't report on what your viewers want. Newspaper readership is down…Yet the new indepent online media is growing by leaps and bounds!

Also look how Ron Paul truly IS a conservative who practices what he preaches. No debt on his campaign unlike Rudy McRomney. Ron Paul is about or last chance for a balanced budget!

Merrill Keith, Little Rock, AR   July 15th, 2007 1:58 pm ET

The people have spoken CNN, with their money, we want Ron Paul! Now please cover him.

In the mean time, I urge all supporters of McCain, Huckabee, Brownback, Gilmore, Tancredo and T. Thompson to seek out info on your own about Ron Paul.

Matt, Huntsville AL   July 15th, 2007 1:37 pm ET

So that leaves Ron Paul far ahead of him in terms of money raising and money management. I don't particularly like the money race, but the media makes the rules we have to play by. I know I've given my first donation to a political candidate (Ron Paul).

BRUTUS   July 15th, 2007 1:34 pm ET

Please post the same information for all the other candidates. Why the focus on Huckabee? If any Republican is turning out to be an alternative, it is obviously Ron Paul (who has more money on hand than McCain! Why isn't that a story?)

Andrew, Short Hills, NJ   July 15th, 2007 1:27 pm ET

and Ron Paul pulls into the lead in the money raised among 2nd tier candidates.

And since he has more cash on hand than McCain, McCain should be counted as a 2nd tier candidate, and Paul should be counted as a front runner

Matt Phoenix Arizona   July 15th, 2007 1:25 pm ET

And yet the media still ignores Ron Paul…who is raising more on line than any other candidate…and he hasn't used his own money to prop up his figures… Google Ron Paul, and you will be able to prove to yourself that Ron is the single most honest politician in America!

Bill, Norfolk Virginia   July 15th, 2007 1:24 pm ET

Well, the media was pumping up huckabee as the top of the "second-tier" but it looks like that didnt translate into any real donations or support. I think you'll have to keep an eye on Ron Paul, he raised almost 4 times as much as huckabee is the true principled conservative in the vien of goldwater and reagan in this race. I predict in the coming weeks Ron Paul will start to be a very viable alternative to Rudy McRomneyson.

Jeff S., San Francisco, CA   July 15th, 2007 1:21 pm ET

It looks like Ron Paul has not only outshined John McCain in end of June cash on hand, with over $2 million cash on hand, but has trounced Mike Huckabee who has less than one fourth the cash on hand as Ron Paul. Given that Ron Paul outshines all of the so-called "second tier" by a wide margin in both fundraising and grassroots support such as number of volunteers, when is the mainstream media going to acknowledge that Ron Paul is no longer "obscure" and no longer a "long shot" but is looking every day more and more like a real contender and "top tier" candidate?
