If this is how Republicans manage campaigns, think of how they would run the country, not on voluntary donations, but your tax dollars! YIKES!

RON PAUL, the only conservative in the running.

This article is very misleading. Any accountant can tell you that Assets = Liabilities + Shareholder Equity. Giuliani has a commanding leading in Net Assets which is what really matters, followed by a distant Romney, then Ron Paul less than a million behind him, then McCain trailing by 2 million.

By CNN's logic, I'm a suddenly a millionaire if I get approved for a $1,000,000 mortgage. Give me a break! The net assets ordering:
1) Giuliani 18M
2) Romney 3M
3) Ron Paul 2M
4) McCain 1M

At Romney's spending rate, Ron Paul is poised to take the #2 Net Assets slot in the third quarter. Giuliani should remain comfortably in the lead.

Hopefully McCain will drop out before the next Republican debate so we wont have to listen him drone on and on about absolutely nothing or hear him say "my friends" a hundred thousand times again.

If McCain can continue to raise some cash he may be able to stay the course. No great thing is accomplished without enduring great hardship.

Oh, and as an aside, the title does seem strange based on the fact that 1. Only $1.9 million of McCain's cash on hand can be used in the in his bid for the Republican nomination. 2. If all his debts were due immediately, he would have only $250,000.

Debts don't sound like much of a "warchest", and it's a long way until the General Election.

I like the way the writer of this article thinks...in terms of analyzing all numbers.

The numbers are indeed telling. I think if we look at the way the candidates manage money in a campaign, we will get some indication of their approach to finances in government. Some burn through money faster than they get it, some spend most of their money and count on receiving at least as much in the next quarter. Others (few) plan carefully and save enough to make sure they have money at the end.

We can consider what it is we want in a president, in that regard.

Odd that CNN considers Ron Paul a second-tier candidate when he shows such obvious growth in fundrasing. This article is a humorous microcosm of what kind of financial leadership to expect from each candidate. Paul spends only 20% of his quarterly income while others spend more than they broght in, just like they do when they are looting the treasury for their pet pork-barrel projects.
