Kucinich was admitted to the hospital for food poisoning Monday.

(CNN) — Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich remains hospitalized Wednesday in Ohio after aides say he suffered a severe case of food poisoning.

Kucinich spokesman Andy Juniewicz said the Ohio congressman started feeling ill Sunday before flying to Florida for a campaign appearance. He became sicker in Florida, and was forced to cut the trip short to return to Cleveland.

Juniewicz said he was admitted to a Cleveland-area hospital Monday afternoon, and is being treated for “severe symptoms consistent with food poisoning.”

He said Kucinich was improving, but may remain in the hospital another day or two.

Juniewicz said Kucinich missed votes in the House Monday and Tuesday, but did not have any campaign appearances scheduled. His next planned event is this weekend.

I love how the only VEGAN candidate gets food poisoning. As a vegan myself, I'm almost positive it's near impossible to get food poisoning.

P Klonfas, New Paltz NY   August 7th, 2007 1:08 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich is the only presidential candidate who is a long-time supporter of the programs and policies most Americans say they want—and most corporations oppose. That's why he doesn't have an overflowing campaign war-chest and MSM coverage out the wazoo. (Well, that, plus he's not 'sexy'.) But, you'd think Americans would finally catch on that substance is a bit more important than style!

Chris, Moncton, NB   July 24th, 2007 8:08 pm ET

Dennis is the only serious candidate besides Gravel. He speaks the Truth like Ron Paul so it doesn't surprise me that he was poisoned. Thats what happens to honest politicians in the US>

Since when was "he can't win" a legitimate reason to vote against someone. Voting is the only power given to the people by the constitution, and if we use it to vote for people we only half-heartedly support because they can win then we truly have no power. Vote your heart, not your head. And don't let your head get brainwashed by the people with money(i.e. the press–all mainstream press outlets in America are owned by only six corporations) who try to tell you who can win and who is just "comic releif". If candidates were running on just issues Kucinich would win the dem. primary hands down. But we are too cowardly as a party and too beholden to private interests to put forward a candidate that supports our platform. We're more concerned about power than policy. And that's why we will fail.

We the people need you, Dennis! We love you, Dennis! This kind of thing usually only happens to meat eaters not vegans, what happenned? This is serious now, you need to have a personal chef everywhere you go, people will understand, especially after this incident! fresh organic fruit only hand picked by your people!

Rocky, Sherman Oaks, CA   July 19th, 2007 10:47 pm ET

I would love to see a man like him, with integrity and good ideas for our nation…everyone in the nation…to prosper; instead of just a few priviledged people riding on the backs and by the lives of our soldiers and taxpayers. He is a man of principle and has not taken money from corporate interests who own all of the other candidates. Go Dennis

WKYC is saying now: "Congressman and presidential candidate, Dennis Kucinich, was headed back to Washington after being released from a Cleveland hospital Wednesday morning."

Don't forget Paul Wellstone, whom Cheney threatened shortly before his death. I don't suspect Clinton or Edwards, though I'm fully aware of Vince Foster's spotless white sleeve, gun and hand that supposedly shot him in the mouth, per the official photo.

No, this was HR333, and equally Dennis's dazzling speech on the floor against the Hydrocarbon Law, the only "benchmark" that matters to the Junta.

If it passes, it will be the greatest armed robbery in the history of the world. Live long and prosper, Dennis. We will fight on, regardless!

Who got the anthrax letters? Daschle and Leahy who were trying to stop the Patriot Act.

Now Kucinich starts impeachment talk and questions 9/11, and he suddenly gets "symptoms related to food poisoning"

Don't live in a little shell, your government wants to forcefeed you its neolib/neocon false choices.

Thoughtcrime Rising, Manchester, NH   July 19th, 2007 7:23 am ET

The other candidates had nothing to do with this, most importantly because none are that ruthless. The true masters are backstage. If Kucinich was poisoned, it wasn't meant to kill him: it was meant to turn up the heat and provide more material for setting up the tinfoil-hat club for embarrasment.

Noble American   July 19th, 2007 5:28 am ET

Yep is there nothing that this corrupt government won't do?

Dennis please watch out for the evil ones trying to poison you.

What next?-Ron Paul.hummmm……please be careful.

Chauncy Gardner   July 19th, 2007 4:23 am ET

People think Kucinich "can't win" because MSM keeps spewing out that he can't win. Corporate America is concerned about Edwards plans, Kucinich scares the bushit out of them. He did NOT vote for the war. He had the courage to bring articles of impeachment against Cheney. Dennis is for We The People and that scares corporate America and the greedy. If more ppl knew his positions instead of listening to what MSM wants US to know he would be top tier. But no, MSM would rather US consider candidates hair cuts. Has anyone seen any attack on Kucinich that wasn't ad hominem?

Perry, Dallas, Texas   July 19th, 2007 1:26 am ET

Hey, Johnny & Hitlery…..guess thats one way to narrow the field.

Bobbie Savitz Portland O   July 19th, 2007 1:22 am ET

Whatever a "Romulin" is, I want one. Plus, I grew in Long Beach. Tell me where in LB you live and if you went to LB Poly.

Asher   July 19th, 2007 12:44 am ET

I gotta wonder… the senator who opposed sought to impeach the Federal Reserve board for moving us to fiat currancy died of food poisoning, after getting it three times in the span of a week, starting the week after decalring his intent to impeach the Federal reserve board.

John, Kansas City, MO   July 19th, 2007 12:22 am ET

I wish him well. I agree he does bring comic relief. At least each party has someone that is a little looney with Ron Paul on the Republican side and Dennis Kucinich for the Democrats. They both bring comic relief to their respective party debates. Neither can or should be taken seriously.

Sally   July 18th, 2007 11:00 pm ET

I wish the candidate a speedy recovery but I am skeptical of the cover story. As someone who has had just regular old food poisoning — I wasn't able to leave the bathroom for more than a half hour at a time much less travel from FL to OH, even on a private jet. It would have been pure hell.

Independent, Roseville, CA   July 18th, 2007 10:51 pm ET

Dan in Baltimore:

You are on the right page, but are looking at the wrong people. Kucinich is the sponsor of HR 333, the impeachment of Richard Bruce Cheney.

In my opinion, this was a botched hit attempt by Cheney. We'll see if others got sick.

Ellen, Cincinnati, OH   July 18th, 2007 8:38 pm ET

No doubt poisoned!

To send someone to the hospital–that is very suspicious!

Of course, Kucinich is trying to get the evil and deserving VP Cheney impeached with the Resolution he offered. Enough said.

Kucinich has guts out the wazoo! And that's more than I can say about most people in this country!

As a fellow Ohioan, I commend and thank Dennis for his fearless, unflinching idealism and honesty!

Bill (San Diego, CA)   July 18th, 2007 8:30 pm ET

Oh my. Lucky for Dennis that the Foster gun is still in the evidence locker.

linda, houston, tx   July 18th, 2007 7:48 pm ET

Get well soon, Dennis!!

Robert Worthington, Garland Texas   July 18th, 2007 5:19 pm ET

This candidate has my full support. I truly believe that America needs a Dennis Kucinich to hold the Presidency, and I favor his stance on the issues over the other candidates.

David, Nashville, TN   July 18th, 2007 3:01 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich is strange. In the photo above, he claims the sky is falling.

But I wish him a full recovery, since he brings comic relief to this presidential campaign.

Mrs. America   July 18th, 2007 2:57 pm ET

Get well soon, Congressman. I'm looking forward to seeing you on the CNN/YouTube debate. I know your chances of winning the primary are nil, but you're a great foil for the top tier candidates.

Terry Gloege (Kansas)   July 18th, 2007 2:47 pm ET

He'll be missed by many. One of but a few candidates unafraid of the truth.

Chantelle, Rochester Minnesota   July 18th, 2007 2:44 pm ET

Kucinich probably got food poising CNN has been showing enough about how unprotected our food is. Blame the FDA not other political canidates

Pete, T.S. FL   July 18th, 2007 2:43 pm ET

Probably had something from CHINA!

John Schaaf, Long Beach, Ca.   July 18th, 2007 2:34 pm ET

LOL. That Romulin better not have paid more than $5 for that 'little boys' haircut!

Jon, Sacramento ~ Ca   July 18th, 2007 2:05 pm ET

Clinton and Edwards admitted on open-mic of wanting to thin out the field… but going to the point of poisoning another candidate is a bit too far! Must have been Hillary's idea. Edwards voted for giving Kucinich a bad hair cut – so I hear.

Dan (Baltimore, MD)   July 18th, 2007 1:53 pm ET

Hmm…Kucinich criticizes Clinton and Edwards and right afterwards gets poisoned. I wonder how they did it…Kucinich better start sleeping with one eye open…
