Vice President Dick Cheney.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Bush will undergo a routine colonoscopy Saturday, and will transfer power to Vice President Dick Cheney during the procedure, expected to take about two and a half hours, the chief White House spokesman said.

Tony Snow said Friday that the procedure, during which a doctor looks for any signs of cancer, will be carried out at Camp David, Maryland, and the president will be placed under anesthesia.

Bush's last colonoscopy was in June 2002, and no abnormalities were found, Snow said.

Here's Bush's exit plan! Question is will Darth Cheney give up the power since the Constitution has been shredded? I'm betting not!

Cheney as President? Even if it is only for two and a half hours, it will be plenty of time for Dick to conjure up some of his lawyers and have plenty of pardons typed up for all of his minion friends. I wonder how long it will take him to conjure up a pardon for Hitler in hell so they can talk strategy about Iraq.

Mike, Chicago, IL   July 20th, 2007 12:44 pm ET

With Cheney as president for a few hours, which executive privileges will he abuse? My guess is all of them.

For the record, Mr. Akbar, just because a person thinks that the Bush/Cheney administration is the worst in this nation's history doesn't necessarily mean that they're a 'liberal,' it means they're a concerned, educated, attentive, free-thinking American concerned with our country's past, present and future being tarnished by such brazen acts of political negligence under the guise of patriotism.

Sarah Meltzer, Orlando FL   July 20th, 2007 1:05 pm ET

From it's refusal to take responsibility for it's actions (unethical and otherwise), removal of the line between church and state, proposing discriminatory amendments, to it's "money grows on trees, who needs the middle class" spending habits, and ending with refusal to acknowledge checks and balance.. I had thought nothing more this administration did could scare me. However, knowing that our Vice President, who changes legislative branches like a squirrel, will be President even for a few hours is truly frightening.

Debra, Navarre, KS   July 20th, 2007 1:14 pm ET

As someone who recently had a colonoscopy…I can only wish the preparations are just as "pleasant" for the Shrub as they were for me. He certainly deserves it…had I known he would have followed in my footsteps, it would have made the evening much more tolerable!

Ted Dosei - Iowa   July 20th, 2007 1:14 pm ET

Umm… what is political about this story? Why is this on a 'political ticker.' "The CNN Political Ticker provides the latest political news." Isn't this just standard operating procedure. News… OK. Political? I don't think so. And you wonder why CNN gets the biased slant thrown at it…. so sad.

Joseph Wayne   July 20th, 2007 1:15 pm ET

If I was other countries around the world, I'd have my military on high alert because ol Cheney might just have fun invading another country and trying to find those WMD's!

Bush under anesthesia. Cheney in charge… How is this different than every other day at the White House?

Chris, St. Paul, MN   July 20th, 2007 1:19 pm ET

Section 3 of the 25th Amendment: "Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President."

Point: Bush regains power when he wants. Cheney cannot hold on to it. Don't you people watch West Wing?!?!?! ; )

Michael - Stamford, CT   July 20th, 2007 1:20 pm ET

If anything both Dick Cheney and President Bush should be impeached over Iraq. Bill Clinton lied about having sex while Bush and Cheney lied about the reasons for going to war with Iraq. Which is worse? It's a shame this congress hasn't held them accountable. It's also a national disgrace how this administration refuses to pardon our border control agents as they sit in jail for doing their job to protect the American people. This administration is going to go down as the worst in the history of the country!

Jeff Pfeffer Hanover MD .   July 20th, 2007 1:22 pm ET

The end of humanity has come. Tricky Dicky will push the price of gas above $4.00 a gallon so Haliburton's stock price will soar and he will be even richer.

Eric R. , Green Bay, WI   July 20th, 2007 1:23 pm ET

Look up the 25th Amendment on Wikipedia if you really want to be scared. Cheny can keep power for up to 27 days by convincing the Cabinet that Bush is incapable of being President. The war in Iran could be over and lost by that point.

Joe Chiaffitelli-Oklahoma City, OK   July 20th, 2007 1:24 pm ET

If Cheney wants to do anything useful as temp. president of the United States, he should actually address the Global Poverty issue on an executive level. According to the Borgen Project, 78% favor helping poor countries develop their economies as a way to fight terrorism. If he listens, the people would definitely appreciate it.

Sarah, Orlando FL   July 20th, 2007 2:11 pm ET

How can anyone defend either one of these men? They ignore the constitution, promote discrimination on a governmental level, spend billions on a war to get soldiers killed for oil (btw with that money Americans could have free health care for life), and scandal after scandal say they support whoever is the scapegoat, then do whatever it takes to keep those involved from answering for their actions, and then finally say they had no idea what was going on. Bush has poor policy on every front, and Cheney.. Well evil evil.. I don't care how "moral" people think Bush is, the guy used the religious right to get elected, protested a hand count (which he had promoted when a TX was in question) and then somehow reelected! Are you seriously saying this guy is a good president?!? Hopefully history isn't blind to the immoral and anti-American BS of this Administration. While the Dr's are up there can we request they insert a brain?

BTW wanting the troops out doesn't mean I don't support the troops.. it means I support their right not to leave their families and put their lives in danger unless it is for a good (and real) reason.

I do realize that "only" 30% of American citizen are behind this administration, which is still amazing. Unfortunately, the all country has to wait until 2009 to see new faces.

On another note, Stephen Harper, our relatively new prime minister in Canada is also moving our country in the wrong directions on all important issues (environment, Medicare and social security).

Remember the 2000 elections? I do, and what stands out in my mind the most is the scene when the Congressional Black Caucus walked out of chambers in protests of the ratification of the election results, which was marred by the thousands of African-Americans who's votes were thrown out. Now America, you got what you wanted…a den of vipers in the White House. Review what has happened to America and its good will that took most of the 20th century to develop. The blood spilled for profit, heads of state assassinated via CIA (Remember Mosedeq in Iran overthrown by CIA and replaced with Sha Rezza), now you have a band of sicko's who need blood for profit in the white house. And to think, some 'Americans' are OK with that. YOU BROUGHT THIS ON YOURSELVES! Reminds me of the fall of Rome, but this time the barbarians ARE in the gate and running the show. Fat, comfortable American public, enjoying sick sit-coms on TV while their country went to hell. You had a chance to be a REAL American then and stand up for what was right, but since those disenfranchised had darker hued skin it was acceptable. Now look at your country. You snooze, you loose!

Paul, GCPDM, Canada   July 20th, 2007 2:40 pm ET

Dear "REDSTATE : July 20, 2007 1:56 pm"

I guess you are among the 30% of Americans who are either putting lots of $$$ in their pockets or retarded. If you are not retarded you better protect your wealth by buying some GOLD.
Bush for 6 years was enough to put the final nail on the coffin of the dollar - this government betrayed its citizens for its own interests. When the Chinese or Japanese stop recycling their surpluses in your country the US will be officially BANKRUPT.

Stop watching Fox News and switch to Lou Dobbs for a month

Michael, Cambridge, New York   July 20th, 2007 2:51 pm ET

Maybe while they're in there, then can work on Bush's brain.

Mike Soul, Seattle, WA   July 20th, 2007 2:57 pm ET

This just like the Harry Potter book issue. The doctor's just want a sneak preview of Bush's IRAQ exit strategy. And no fear about Cheney having supreme executive powers, by his own admission he isn't part of the Executive Branch. Only in America…

Pamela, Columbus OH   July 20th, 2007 2:57 pm ET

The moron will probably declare war on Iran, Syria and North Korea simultaneously.
The moron who wrote that comment apparently never read the US Constitution.

Cheney you the man in Wicthia KS   July 20th, 2007 3:03 pm ET

This time around they will probably find a cancer cell (aka Billary) a cancer that will spread far and wide, until the whole country is infected with its liberal stink.

Ann, Des Moines, Iowa   July 20th, 2007 3:15 pm ET

God help us, alright - from the people that suffer so severely from BDS that they spew childish venom on boards like this. Grow up people!

REDSTATE   July 20th, 2007 3:19 pm ET

"Cheney you the man in Wicthia KS" -

Ditto to that!

Liberals - Should we send you a "fax" to give you the President's health status? Oooops, my bad, your legislators don't read them - that's right. haaaaaa

Kevin, Nashville Tn   July 20th, 2007 3:27 pm ET

Wow, the three guys who actually support Cheney made a comment. I didn't know in anyone like that really existed or if there were people who really are that naive and stupid to actually still support this moron and Bush.

REDSTATE   July 20th, 2007 3:37 pm ET

To "Paul, GCPDM, Canada:"

FYI - Because I work 40 hours a week and on top of that, raise a family, all while not blaming President Bush for my own fiscal responsibility, I don't watch much t.v., Mr. Canada. However, when I do, I watch ALL of the news channels - even though all of them cater to liberals like you. Unlike people like you, I don't stick to one man to get my "facts". Gee, Lou Dobbs is so non-partisan. And also, be careful criticizing another country's president lest you find yourself up against the wrath of Congress like Hugo Chavez did. We don't like our President criticized by other countries - he's still OUR President!

John, Ca.   July 20th, 2007 3:41 pm ET

To the "dingbat" that posted the Senate vote:

THE MAJORITY OF DEMOCRATS IN THE HOUSE VOTED AGAINST THE WAR RESOLUTION!

and more Democrats, in total, from the House and Senate voted against the measure.

We won't even get into the fact that it was suppose to be a last resort after the Imperial President went back to the UN for another vote.

He never went back to the UN for that vote!

The Republic Party needs to stop filibustering the will of the people!!

Mike, HI   July 20th, 2007 3:50 pm ET

DEMSDUH, neither of my senators voted for the president to go to war. Does that mean I can still blame the president? :)

Colin Lee, Lakeville, MN   July 20th, 2007 3:51 pm ET

Aha! Al Qaeda's secret plan is to work at Blue Cross and deny the President's insurance claims until he dies of colon cancer. They really have learned true terror from Americans, but I guess they didn't learn that the President doesn't have to suffer at the hands of his own private insurance companies with all the government-paid doctors he gets.

Denise, WICHITA KS   July 20th, 2007 4:22 pm ET

Cheney you the man:
Wicthia KS? Where is that?

First, learn to spell the name of your own city. Then you can work on politics.

medusa'sbigO, Houston TX   July 20th, 2007 4:33 pm ET

Add some E85 by-products like formaldehyde and acetate, or carcinogenic refinery run-off like benzyne, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, and lead to his anesthesia mix so he knows how it feels to breathe in Texas. Maybe the doctors will locate the $12 billion missing in government money contracted at Halliburton.

Cheney the man in Wichitia ks   July 20th, 2007 4:42 pm ET

One thing is for certain once the biased media gets the liberals in complete control of DC the insurance premiums will go up. After all hard someone is going to have to pay for ther "universal healthcare"

Kris, Minneapolis, MN   July 20th, 2007 4:42 pm ET

In responce to the list of senator's who voted to go to war, didn't like 9 of them read the report about the pro's and con's of going to war in the first place? Unless one of the under dog's with no finacial backing somehow wins the next election were going to end up w/ more of the same people in Washington not doing their jobs.

John, Ca.   July 20th, 2007 4:43 pm ET

Regarding the Senate vote:

The majority of Democrats in the House, and a majority of all Democrats combined voted against the war resolution.

A resolution that war would be used as a last resort after the Imperial President went back to the UN for a second vote.

He never went back for that second vote.

The Republic Party needs to stop filibustering the will of the American people, and choose national interest over the politics of backing Dumbya and his failed policy in Iraq.

Mike, Atlanta, GA   July 20th, 2007 4:45 pm ET

Posted By DEMSDUH : July 20, 2007 3:01 pm

Yes, we do blame the President and his administration, because they gave FABRICATED EVIDENCE to Congress in order to gather enough support for his declaration of war. It's too bad no one on the right side of the aisle was smart enough to see past that and vote "nay".

B Clay, Farmington, New Mexico   July 20th, 2007 4:48 pm ET

Welcome to the United States of Haliburton! If you have any oil, we will take it.

Now don't quote me and I'm sure this is nothing, but the bible does say the people will give the devil all authority for a hour to commit destruction. I'm not calling Cheney the devil, but this world is really hosed and this just adds to the interest in revelations. Intersting.

Denise, WICHITA KS   July 20th, 2007 5:16 pm ET

Hm. I love how Bush advocates cancer screening, but most Americans can't even afford it because they don't have health insurance. That's why it's the 2nd most common cancer in America. That's why a lot of people die in America. Nice work Bush. Nice work.

Paul, GCPDM, Canada   July 20th, 2007 7:00 pm ET

Dear "REDSTATE : July 20, 2007 3:37 pm"

Of course nobody likes when its President is criticized/insulted - The President of a country is supposed to represent the best image of its people and the logic would be the election of an intelligent individual (right or left wing) not someone that did not know before invading Iraq that there were Shiite and Sunny Muslims!! Or someone that cannot talk by himself without saying anything stupid unless he reads a speech. Having G.W. Bush as President sure makes all of you look dumb – On the other hand, Cheney is far from being stupid (but he is a fascist).

I would like to insist that it is often not the American people being insulted/criticized by the outside world but your government and its foreign policies of spreading freedom – somehow, you have to show the world that 70% of you are against killing people for oil, or you could ask your government why they doesn’t “spread democracy” to Saudi Arabia or Kuwait.

When the governments of Canada, France or Germany refuse to invade a sovereign country in 2003, the US media where making fun of the French, showing people dumping wine on the street in New York and calling French Fries “Freedom Fries”. Four years later who made the best choice.

J.P.Wagner, Wichita, Ks.   July 23rd, 2007 7:32 pm ET

Maybe with the title, President Cheney will have an epiphany, learn from his mistakes, and start thinking much further ahead than how to stuff a few more dollars in a special interest pocket. I don't expect that soon. Mission Accomplished Indeed. Balderdash!

There is no hope; but I could be wrong.

2.5 hours… just enough time to shred the Constitution, declare war on 14 different countries and shuttle Alberto Gonzales across the U.S.-Canadian border.
