Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - By an overwhelming vote, the Senate Thursday approved an amendment saying detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, should not be moved to facilities inside the United States.

The amendment, authored by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, passed on a 94-3 vote. It states that detainees "including senior members of al Qaeda, should not be released to American society" or transferred into "facilities in American communities and neighborhoods."

"Some in Congress have actually proposed that we require the president to move terrorist detainees held at Guantanamo Bay to the continental United States and keep them here," said McConnell, R-Kentucky.

"That means moving them into facilities in cities and small towns across America in states like California and Illinois and Kentucky. Well, I can guarantee you that my constituents don't want terrorists housed in their backyards in Fort Knox, Fort Wright or anywhere else within the Commonwealth. I know I don't."

The amendment does not offer an opinion on the closure of Guantanamo Bay or prohibit moving terrorists elsewhere, according to a statement released by McConnell's office.

Tom, it sounds to me like you just can't handle just a wee bit of sarcasm? By the way, I said absolutey nothing about dishonoring the troops, so there's no reason for you to start getting emotional now. As to your comment about Corpus Christi, that was 'down right lame!'

I completely support the troops, and I understand having served in the military myself, and far from the comforts of Texas, that active duty servicemen/women, cannot voice their political opinions in public. I know very well what it means to comply with the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Now, as to the civilian elected government that continues to send the troops over there; I have absolutely "0" support for them; the 'Bush Doctrine' is NOT the solution, but the problem! As to the troops, the majority are 'TRUE HEROS' But anyone with half a brain, knows that Rumsfeld and gang, brought great disgrace upon the US, with Gitmo, and Abu Gharaib, that has completely tarnished our image as a law-abiding and respectful country. I sincerely hope that one day, we do get that respect back!

Unlike yourself, the rest of the liberals and the MSM, I choose to honor the thousands of good men and women who serve (like I did,) and the VERY FEW individuals that did anything wrong, were prosecuted. Period.

Let's report on the food, clothing, and handsprings we are doing to appease these "people" who by the way were not pulled off of the streets of Corpus Christi but on the battlegrounds in Iraq etc, etc.

Move Gitmo to Kentucky, and get Lindy England and her bf Grainor to run the place! Keep the rednecks happy!

Donald Rumsfeld as the gate keeper?

Kumbya......

The British terrorists where processed through the courts, found guilty and sentenced. We are talking about our allies, creators of the Star Chamber, and reason for the Declaration of Independence.

If they are found on a battlefield as a combatant, then keep them in Iraq or Afghanistan as a POW. If they're found here, lock em up here in solitary.

Hell, Israel deals with worse on a daily basis and they just released 250 to Fatah, which is right next door!

We didn't throw Tim McVeigh in Cuba. We tried him in the court of law and then executed him.

"It’s not rocket science Mitch. If WE fly them to Cuba from the Mid-East than why the hell would we “release” them on U.S. soil in the first place?

If they are found not guilty, return them back to their home country which is in a different hemisphere."

So – DO they have rights as US citizens (trial here in the US)? OR are they enemy combatants and strictly held accountable to the Military and Tribunals?

Funny how the bleeding-heart liberals want to afford our enemies constitutional rights – yet "not in my town" as the 94-3 vote suggests.

These prisoners are enemy combatants – not in uniform or affiliated with a sovereign nation's defense force. They are NOT US citizens and should be subject to Military Tribunals. If you disagree – by all means open your home, put a fresh copy of the Koran in the nightstand, and sleep comfortably knowing you made the world a better place by attempting to help Osama's friends.

Duh...McConnell is a tool. What a complete waste of time.

It's not rocket science Mitch. If WE fly them to Cuba from the Mid-East than why the hell would we "release" them on U.S. soil in the first place?

If they are found not guilty, return them back to their home country which is in a different hemisphere.

Typical Republican fear-mongering.

Moving Gitmo detainees to US soil would rather clearly give them the habeus corpus rights which Bush has tried to deny them. Congressman Moran must be releived that they won't be dumped on the Marines in Quantico.

But Senator, these are all good people that according to Rosie are Mom's and Dad's just like us.

Underwear on heads , barking dogs, loud music and a little water boarding and the Kumbya, boo-hoo crowd is all up in arms.

Anyone that did abuse anyone, got prosecuted, that's how this country works.

If a little minor persuasion saves one life, I am all for it, even if the life is kumya singing liberal.

I know it didn't get much press with the exception of course being that biased Fox news, do anyone see recently the torture chambers that they uncovered in Iraq complete with manuals on how to torture our soldiers? Not pretty.

The MSM must have been showing the daily Paris Hilton news instead.

PLEASE PEOPLE — go this website and sign the petition for Michael Vick’s suspension (not a release until he has had his day in court, but a suspension for sure!) The indictment states that he abused and slaughtered dogs and if we don’t stop him he’s going to get away with it! Let the NFL and other sport’s organizations know that this abuse will not be tolerated! Stop these million $ professional THUGS! Go here to sign with The Animal Humane Society https://community.hsus.org/campaign/US_2007_dogfighting_nfl2?qp_source=gaba6w
