(CNN) - When asked if he could pick any Republican to be his running mate, democratic presidential candidate John Edwards named Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel.

The same Republican Joe Biden had picked immediately prior to Edwards' turn.

But Edwards also used the question to immediately enter a slightly different area with his response.

"If you listen to these questions, they all have exactly the same [theme], which is 'how do we bring about big change?'" Edwards said.

"I think the people who are powerful in Washington–big insurance companies, big drug companies, big oil companies–they are not going to negotiate," Edwards continued. "The only way they're going to give away their power is if we take it away from them.

[...] It is Hillary Clinton's nomination to lose. She didn't lose it Monday night. Chuck Hagel is the GOP's only hope. The GOP has no hope. [...]

I think Sen. Edwards just hit the bullseye regarding every issue that challenges every American from the middle class to the lower class. The main issue in this election should not be about the Iraq War. It should be about affordable health care, controlling energy costs and controlling costs of insuring durables (homes, cars, life, etc).
The Iraq War will play out to a redeployment regardless of which party wins in '08. The candidate that can come up with a plan to address these three issues without being called a communist or a socialist will win the nomination and the White House.
