Protester removed from Fred Thompson event

A protester questioned Thompson’s conservatism Wednesday.

HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) – A woman screaming “you’re not a real conservative, sir” was removed by police from a welcoming reception for likely GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson Wednesday morning. A second protester was also taken from the room.

Houston police officers escorted the woman — as well as a man — from the hangar at Hobby Airport, where Thompson was shaking hands with a crowd of supporters. They were not arrested.

The woman questioned Thompson as he talked to reporters. She asked him why he was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and noted that the organization supported the North American Union with Canada and Mexico.

After the woman interrupted Thompson by questioning his conservative credentials, the likely candidate said, “Don’t fuss at me. You asked me a question. Let me answer it.” He told the woman, “I try to learn as much as I can from all viewpoints.”

Later, she shouted at Thompson as the news conference ended. Police officers took her outside a fenced area near the hangar, and stood with her until the former Tennessee senator departed.

Editor’s Note: In the comments section below (#4), the woman has identified herself as a member of the group “Houston 9/11 Truth.” In a video of the incident linked on her blog, she is also heard charging the attack in New York on 9/11 was a “inside job.”

Nice. Thompson is no different from the other 'top tier' scumbags. I hope these traitors are getting used to people actually asking them real questions, unlike the softballs at 'debates'.

The CNN video shown here is poorly cut to the point past yellow-journalism, the video makes it look like she raised her voice which started the incident. The other video clearly shows she was being assaulted before she rightfully raised her voice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvMWGNX7HlI

This CNN blog also misrepresents the truth that her minor interruption was the catalyst for the outbreak. CNN reporters regularly cut off guests mid-sentence in interviews. Further, she was not a "protester" as the headline states, she was performing journalism until forced out. Starting this piece off with calling her a screaming woman is another clear smear.

Steve Brusk should be embarrassed for this discredit of truth, thank goodness for the internet where we can pick up the lies and spin right way. This is part of why the old media is losing all relevancy.

You wouldn't hire the guy does the voice of Homer Simpson to work at your nuclear power plant and you wouldn't Bill Cosby to be your doctor, so WHY would you let Fred Thompson be your President?

Count me in, I'm a FREDHEAD!!!!!

Fred once said 'America is the greatest beacon of hope for all freedom loving people around the world'

Posted By Mary M, Houston, TX: "The Republican party used to be the party for Christians. We’re taking it back."

According to ballot polls it was the Christian right that elected Mr. Bush in the first place. He pandered to the Christian right and you gobbled it up faster than a dog eating a hotdog. This just goes to show the Christian right can be manipulated just as easily as any other interest group. You fanaticism becomes your undoing.

You also assert that GW has tried to change the US Constitution and at the same time claim the republican party as Christian turf. The United States Constitution Article 6 section 3 states: "...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

Please tell me who is trying to change the constitution again?

I'm no Fred Thompson fan but I'm not about to burn him at the stake as some kind of conservative heretic. The woman screaming the question was being a jerk. The question itself is valid but Fred has no obligation to answer her. He has no obligation to even acknowlege her existance. She was escorted out of the building for causing a disturbance. She's no different than Cindy Sheehan screaming questions at George Bush.

Its funny to see all of you conservatives complain about GW. You idiots are the ones who voted him in. Not one but twice because you didnt look at facts. You voted because he claimed to be a conservative. If we educate ourselves and vote on things that regard business not personal or emotional BS, maybe you guys can make a good decision this time around.

    Lesson learned

" a screaming woman"?? Steve Brusk should lose his job for not even watching the entire video and learning the real truth of what happened to this concerned citizen.

The clip cnn is showing is obviously spliced and the true video is what should be shown

This is why "journalist" are lossing all respect in America because they change the facts to create sentionalism.

Using words like "screaming" instead of showing the questions asked and unanswered is typical of todays journalist

Get a back bone we need more people like her out there asking questions

Everyone loves a real movie star! Perhaps he will follow in the footsteps of Reagan and sell weapons to Iran!

What a tool! He's just there on behalf of CFR, to say "cause a distraction".
He is there for the "spectacle" of the Presidential Election. How fun it is to take part!

Liking America doesn't make one conservative.

This guy has no chance, but I can't wait for him to officially enter the race. We need more pro-war Republicans for neo-cons to split their vote on; let all the other conservative Republicans give their primary vote to Ron Paul.

Watch the entire 5 minute video clip to see what really happened and what CNN edited out, in order to apparently promote Thompson while attempting to make the person who asked a viable question, appear to be a nutball. Shame on you CNN, you're becoming as fair and balanced as Fox News. Good job!

I love the re-defining of the word "conservative" on this thread. One poster even goes so far to say "There are no more real conservatives. There are just the religious liberals who think God’s law and America’s law are one and the same and the Party Liners who do not care what your views are as long as you CLAIM to be republican."

What a CROCK. To echo the lovely Digby's words: "Movement conservatives are getting ready to write the history of this era as liberalism once again failing the people. Typically, the conservatives were screwed, as they always are. They must regroup and fight for conservatism, real conservatism, once again. Viva la revolucion!

There is no such thing as a bad conservative. "Conservative" is a magic word that applies to those who are in other conservatives' good graces. Until they aren't. At which point they are liberals.

Get used to the hearing about how the Republicans failed because they weren't true conservatives. Conservatism can never fail. It can only be failed by weak-minded souls who refuse to properly follow its tenets. It's a lot like communism that way."

It was YOUR movement that enabled this administration, that propped it up, and loudly supported its actions, whether they were illegal or not. Only NOW with Nixonian approval levels, do you begin to distance yourselves from it.

If you watch the video from her camera, she actually isn't doing or saying anything when they start dragging her out. She had asked her question and then was quiet while Thompson was talking to someone else. She only started yelling after they grabbed her. This article has completely twisted the facts. How pathetic!

The lady is permitted to ask a question, naturally, but when you're shouting it and not allowing the person to respond, don't expect sympathy to your "there goes the first amendment" argument. You asked the question to get a rise out of him, which it did, so you win there. You're probably elated that you were detained for a brief period.

Some of you on the far, far, right are as bad as the far, far left. And in case you missed the explanation of not entering the race officially at this point, he cannot do so without harming the Law And Order Shows that are airing thru August. He has had to give notice for his ABC Radio commentaries, etc. Name another mainline Republican candidate (and I don't mean Ron Paul)who is pro-life, pro-tax cuts and a serious thinker.

"Trophy Wife" seems to bother a few of these "Posters" for some reason. If that is the best you can do before Fred actually gets out into the public it says a lot about snap judgments.
Lets let him get into the fray then maybe you can set aside your problem dealing with a young and beautiful wife who would look very well wandering the White House rather then having another Clinton stalking it.

    Republicans. Hear Me.

I am a Republican; and I can tell you one thing. The American public will not elect a pro-war Canadite in 2008.

If Republicans truly believe in lower taxes, less govermnment... the only chance we have at keeping those values is to elect Ron Paul.

He is the only canadite who has a chance at the Independent votes, the Libertarian, votes, and he even has Democratic members registering Republican.

    -Concerned Republican.

    RON PAUL 08'!

As I read some of these comments it's very obvious that those looney lefties are out again. It must be a full moon or something.

You can't say I disagree or come up with something original. Nope, just a rehash of bashing anyone and everyone who isn't a left wing moron.

Keep at it. The more you idiots talk the more the whole world sees just how stupid you really are.

    Keep it up.

Ok people, you want to sound serious when you attack Fred Thompson?

Then quit talking about the North American Union.

THERE IS NO NORTH AMERICAN UNION, there are no plans for it, no one supports it, so quit sounding like kooks and please engage in real debate.

You know conservatives are for smaller government period. Somehow since GW everyone thinks that a conservative is a republican. That's not really true. A conservative doesn't have to be a christian or even "pro-life". Realistically a conservative doesn't want government to do anything bu the bare minimum to ensure that we can do what we want. A true conserative doesn't care about gay marriage, abortion, etc because these are issues that shouldn't be decided by the government as they don't have any say.
If you think Ron Paul has any shot you apparently didn't watch the debates. Terrorists don't attack the US because we have a base in the middle east they attack because we are a threat and we don't believe what they want us to. Ron's idea to pull up the draw bridge sounds good but won't work in the long run.
All and all politics are just out of hand. Here is an idea instead of making this a job why don't we go back to making it a service. Term limit every politician, cut their pay to a normal amount, and end the life time pension.
