Protester removed from Fred Thompson event

A protester questioned Thompson’s conservatism Wednesday.

HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) – A woman screaming “you’re not a real conservative, sir” was removed by police from a welcoming reception for likely GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson Wednesday morning. A second protester was also taken from the room.

Houston police officers escorted the woman — as well as a man — from the hangar at Hobby Airport, where Thompson was shaking hands with a crowd of supporters. They were not arrested.

The woman questioned Thompson as he talked to reporters. She asked him why he was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and noted that the organization supported the North American Union with Canada and Mexico.

After the woman interrupted Thompson by questioning his conservative credentials, the likely candidate said, “Don’t fuss at me. You asked me a question. Let me answer it.” He told the woman, “I try to learn as much as I can from all viewpoints.”

Later, she shouted at Thompson as the news conference ended. Police officers took her outside a fenced area near the hangar, and stood with her until the former Tennessee senator departed.

Editor’s Note: In the comments section below (#4), the woman has identified herself as a member of the group “Houston 9/11 Truth.” In a video of the incident linked on her blog, she is also heard charging the attack in New York on 9/11 was a “inside job.”

You didn't report that the woman was a 9/11 truther. Why? Did that not fit in with the "Real conservatives turn against Fred" talking point you're working to establish?

Good Job Fred. This woman was a neo-lib with an agenda.

It seems like the real reason she thinks he isn't a real conservative is that he doesn't believe in "9/11 truth." Whatever, next please.

I have a few criticisms of Thompson myself (basically, I'm not convinced that he's up to the huge task of fixing and downsizing our government, the way Romney is), but her criticism is pretty lame.

If this were a conservative heckeling Hillary it would not even make the back page of the Podunk Free Press.
Wake up, we need a leader who can stand up to a very hostile world that is not going to hold hands and sing Kum Ba Ya with us regardless of who we elect. The only Democrat that even comes close is Biden followed by Hillary. Forget this Liberal, excuse me, progressive vs. conservative BS. Personally I would rather have a President who would blow cigar smoke in Chavez's face. The only difference between Fred Thompson and Ronald Regan is that Thompson was a better actor.

Mary M. in Houston is not in any position to “take anything back” because she didn't "own" the party in the first place. Her noisy, arrogant, anti-Republican minority never "owned" the Republican Party, and the threat of waging war against the Republican Party will be met by further exclusion of her overwrought minority.

Mary sounds like many other former Democrats who came over after Jimmy Carter, but never assimilated to Republican philosophy. Instead, they claimed that “they” were in charge, and began making demands. They completely misinterpreted the good manners of the lifelong Republicans for weakness. The Republicans believed that, in time, the vulgar newcomers would calm down and assimilate into the Republican Party.

However, folks like Mary, REMAINED DEMOCRATS and demanded government support for their positions. Disagree with Mary and be told, “get out of the Party, it’s ours now."

Mary’s demands are not Republican in nature, principle, or philosophy. The PRIMARY philosophy of conservatism is THE RIGHT OF THE INDIVIDUAL TO LIVE THEIR LIVES AS THEY SEE FIT, FREE OF GOVERNMENT INTRUSION. Mary fails that test and is not a conservative. “Christians” are not due greater deference by the Republican Party. [Our former national chair was Jewish.]

Also, "conservatives" and "Christians" are NOTORIOUSLY CHEAP. They remit a $15 check and then brag that they support the party while making never-ending demands, yet, the lifelong Republicans donate thousands of dollars every single year, year in and year out, and ask for NO FAVORS in return.

Always remember and never forget: MOST CONSERVATIVES ARE REPUBLICANS, BUT MOST REPUBLICANS ARE NOT CONSERVATIVE. Anyone who has taken even a freshman course in economics understands that anyone who wants control had better have power. Power doesn’t come in $15 checks or in taking pot shots at the leader of the Party. IOW, Mary has a better chance at forming her own party, than “taking back” the Republican Party. I’m now going to be on the look out for any anti-Republican [militant] “Christian” or “conservative” complainers in my constituency, and if they exhibit the least reluctance about pulling their weight, I’m cutting them loose. In other words, if any of them exhibit any Mary behavior, I’m cutting them out completely. I need Republicans who support us, not those who are “at war” with us.

The woman who was escorted out was shouting about World Trade Center Seven. She's a 'truther'. Part of the one quarter of Americans that think the 9/11 attacks were an "inside job" carried out by the US government.

Why wasn't this info detailed in CNN's report?

FOX leans to the right, CNN to the left.

What happened at the event? Someone screamed and acted like a moron and CNN thinks that is all that should be reported? CNN, get a life. Do any journalist still work at CNN?

If I stalk Clinton or McCain and scream at them, will you give me this kind of coverage?

I like the ron paul supporters who claim he's a "true" conservative. HE doesn't even claim he is. Although, libertarians and conservatives share many views there are many important differences and PLEASE give it up he will never be the nominee he's a bit loony and he joins the left with his "blame America first" rhetoric.

I watched her video. Clearly, she did what CNN and the rest of the propaganda cabal should be doing, which is asking real questions of these criminals and demanding that they give real answers. Bravo for her. Phooey on CNN. You're becoming less relevant by the day.

Looks like another 911 "truther" nutjob trying to find another conspiracy theory. Maybe she should go check out the grassy knoll. And this is news? A Presidential contender makes a speech, we don't care what he says, but some "Looser" runs off at the mouth and CNN publishes her every word? Get a grip on reality, people, and forget about these Lefty "news" channels!

So George Bush isn't a conservative. I guess it's a total coincidence that the moron idiot conservatives put him in office, bowed to his every whim in Congress, enabled him at every step of the way, not only accepted, but elaborated and vehemently defended his never-ending stream of lies, and accused anyone who disagreed with him of being a traitor and a terrorist.

    Is that it?

And I suppose it's also a total coincidence that he appointed two certified conservatives who are the next thing to Nazis to the Supreme Court. Right?

Everybody but the delusional conservatives knows what George Bush is, and in addition to being a wanna-be dictator and the bitter enemy of the Constitution, he is the apotheosis of conservative.

I find it strange that CNN mentioned the "you're not a real conservative line" but failed to mention her 911 conspiracy nuttery. Why mention one and not the other?

While you guys argue about how conservative someone is or is not, the Bill and Hillary Socialist show moves toward the White House. You are better off focusing on the big picture and the real danger for this election.

Ron Paul is about as electable as Michael Moore. I can't understand why the "real conservatives" don't seem to get this? It's not about who agrees with you on every issue, it's about who can get elected in the general election that best fits your value system. Ronald Reagan understood this and his language and communication style reflected this. This woman was just another nut. If you she really wants answers about a candidate all she has to do is look at the voting record and read about what the candidate stands for and against. Shouting questions at a meet and greet like you're Sam Donaldson is rude and unproductive. Why bother to show up at an event like this if you already had your mind made up about the candidate? With this women this was clearly the case. Thompson did the right thing and so did the police who removed this nut job.

What a bad video and copy from CNN. She didn't start yelling until Thompson had goons manhadle her. You wouldn't know that from the CNN copy nor their video. But I saw another video of it on youtube and she got booted for asking a tough question and making him look bad. What a joke Fred Thompson is. Has to have goons manhandle a girl because she asked about one of his rich boys clubs...

Typical cops, she has a right to protest and she wasn't causing harm to anyone. These politicians are more often hiding behind the aprons of law enforcement.

Why wasn't the question shown. She was scared at the end since she didn't know what was going on. She asked the question long before they started to escort her out.

She wasn't yelling or screaming before she was taken out. Yellow-journalism at it's best CNN!

Fred is a real conservative. He is strong and stands for what is right. I have read many of his posts and after much research, he has a great chance of winning. For those of you who don't have a lot of time to do your research, just support the republican candidates that the left hates.

Hillary is scared and so is the left about Thompson.

Please don't take one issue where he hasn't had a chance to explain where he stands on it, and then run with it and get all emotional and crazy.. That is just nuts! SO what if he is on that Council of foreign relations.. Does that mean he agrees with everything that council has put forth??? What if he doesn't like the idea of erasing our borders with Canada and Mexico!

Just give him a chance to explain.. That lady didn't.. She went in there trying to punish him for being on the council and didn't give him a chance to explain.

heh, http://www.CFR.org, the Council of Foreign relations is not a "leftwing or rightwing" group it is a conglomerate of all types of political leanings in order to get as many view points on subjects that related to American foreign policy. People seriously need to get a clue in and stop believing that EVERYTHING is a conspiracy theory in the making and all of this black helicopter crap. Fred Thompson is HIGHLY conservative. Do a google on the internet for Fred Thompsons voting record as a senator, if that isn't conservative enough for you then there is not much anyone in the USA can do for you.

What gives with this word 'neo con'? Do you people even know what it means?
Webster has two definitions for 'neo conservative' as follows: 1) a former liberal espousing political conservatism 2) a conservative who advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and United States national interest in international affairs including through military means.
