Fred Thompson 2.0

Watch CNN's Abbi Tatton report on Thompson's Web site re-launch.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign may not be fully up and running, but his Web site certainly is.

Thompson’s non-campaign campaign Web site re-launched Tuesday with a host of new interactive features, a significant upgrade from the site’s sleek but stripped-down predecessor.

Along with “Fred Cast” Web video, Thompson’s “Fred File” blog, and a variety of volunteer tools, ImWithFred.com features a fundraising solicitation that acknowledges the campaign’s delayed entry into the presidential horserace.

“We are doing things a bit differently so we are off to a late start,” the site reads. “Help us hit the ground running by contributing today.”

Thompson’s exploratory committee raised $3.4 million in June, a figure that disappointed some political observers.

So, does the new-look Web site mean Thompson is ready to officially announce his candidacy?

“I think you should be reading into the Web site that we are trying to provide an interactive space for supporters to communicate with the senator, to learn more about what he’s up to and what he’s thinking,” Thompson spokesperson Linda Rozett told CNN.

It's easy for him to do a "Fred cam" campaign. He doesn't have to do the real leg work that other candidates are doing every day. He's just behind a camera, reading some lines.

Can this guy Fred Thompson possibly be for real?

Okay, for starters, he portrays himself as an outsider in the mold of Reagan, yet in reality he was a lobbyist for many years in Washington, status quo, and he lacks Reagan's ideology, ambition, passion, charisma AND HAIR.

He was also the guy that asked the question on a Senate committee circa 1970 that started the downfall of Nixon. He asked the question about the Nixon tapes, whether they exist. Great right? Wrong. He told the Nixon administration all about the question he was going to ask days earlier to give them warning and time to prepare a defense. He was a huge Nixon supporter and good buddy of Cheney who was also in that administration.

Then there's Vice President Cheney's current Chief of Staff Scooter Libby, whom Bush just pardoned for lying about Valerie Plame... Thompson has been Libby's biggest supporter and fund raiser for his "defense fund", which Libby is using to pay that 250,000 fine that Bush hasn't bothered to pardon him of yet.

Do we really want Fred, the guy that's leading the charge for lying, corporate corruption in Washington, to be our next President?

Well, maybe he's a hard worker, you say?

Uh, well, actually he is world famous for being the laziest Senator on record, and even more infamous for his constant procrastination and vacations, possibly even surpassing our current President in that regard.

Well, maybe he's well spoken, you say? Maybe he's tough on terror, you say?

Think again on both counts, I can sum it up in one quote from Fred Thompson I just found in Newsweek, "Twelve million illegal immigrants later, we are now living in a nation that is beset by people who are suicidal maniacs and want to kill countless innocent men, women and children around the world."

    Huh? Say What?

This dumbfoundingly confusing statement seems to be saying that the suicidal maniacs are here and want to kill innocents elsewhere. Not only is it garbled nonsense, it's also intended to provoke fear and combines two totally unrelated issues. He said it at a major speech.

The bottom line is... haven't we had enough of the same old fear mongering, nonsensical talk about nothing from a President constantly on vacation in a cowboy hat while faking a good ol' boy Texas twang already?

Do we really need another one?

Thompson's window of opportunity came and went while he was still performing his usual above-the-fray song and dance in the periphery. His reticence seemed calculated and shrewd at first, but it now seems nothing but cowardly.

Fred's not gonna run. The Ames straw poll is going to bury him bigtime.

Okay, out of sheer train wreck spectating, I just went and checked out Fred's site. I watched his incredibly inspiring (not)intro speech on Federalism... On Federalism? That's what he's bringing to the greatest election debate of our time... He sits in a cozy cigar room for five minutes, looking like he's on the set of LA LAW, espousing the definition of what federalism is, as if that somehow makes him a worthy candidate.

he says nothing in the speech about the state of union or what he'd do about it. He inspires no passion or thought, he simply gives me the same lecture on federalism i got in junior college from a hack professor who was more interested in banging the co-ed in front of me than teaching anything.

Frankly, in this educational video on federalism he looks tired and like he's reading lines. I thought that at least his acting training would give him some measure of conviction, but apparently I'm wrong.

He looks like a candidate without a good reason to run if you ask me.

Face it. NASCAR neandethals gotta have their dream. this guy is not going away. And there just enough ignorant pathetics to put him on the ticket. Do not dismiss this guy. Of all the candidates, or potential candidates, there are few as foul as this one. the Republicans could easily pick this guy, and the Democrats should be worried.

    Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson;
Before you all enter into/onto the trail of campaigning; Caution! Here are some words of wisdom. This is directed to CNN: Comments made are no more offensive or too smart; than the sign that “GOOD OLE BOY” Senator Lindsey Graham was holding on Tuesday 8/07/2007, so you’re producers and staff had better not delete US and our post? If you continue to stifle free speech as you may, you shall as well merge with the “F” network!

    Fred's a pretty decent actor, but he's a coward of a politician.
If he wants to run, then he pony up to the bar & do it. Quit hiding in the shadows avoiding facing the questions & scrutiny all the other legitimate candidates face every day. If he doesn't have the guts to ante up, then he should back down & go away.
His relationship to Dick Cheney & Scooter Libby would cancel him off my list pretty quick.
