The propaganda that the surge is working is an obvious attempt of the administrations attempt to continue to mislead the American people. Everything about the Iraq war is failed and a orderly withdrawal is the only intelligent course.

The surge is working! Shame on Nanci Palosi.
My great appreciation and respect are for the our soldiers. Respect is due for them, and shame for Palosi.
I am an evangelical Chistian and therefore a pacifist. But when something is obvious, then it should be state so.

This war was just plain wrong from the start... no threat to the U.S.... no connection to 9/11.... no weapons of mass destruction... we made the U.N. weapons inspectors leave Iraq so we could start bombing... no quada in Iraq until we had been there awhile... ANYBODY who can stop this killing for oil has my support!

You will always have a few low-lifes who make themselves visible. As in all, you can focus on the negative or you can focus on the positive while making a public example of the few who are haters.

Does anyone else find it funny that the Iraq war will be "front and center" after their vacation? I am now convinced that all parties are nothing more than rhetoric on the real issues in America. It took President Bush threatening to not let them leave before they put a passible law on his desk about eavesdropping or extended the current law.

While men and women are in harms way/illegal immigrants still cross the borders in massive numbers/and the healthcare system remains a joke, Congress will be enjoying their lifestyles for a month. How convenient.

How does Nancy Pelosi, (I refuse to call her madam anything after all her rhetoric when dems took over and since then nothing has been accomplished), how does she know more about the progress in Iraq than the ground commanders giving the report? Seems like a cheap attempt to raise their approval rating, oh yes which was the lowest in history, lower than President Bush who seems to be gaining a little again.

Or maybe she is getting the intel from Syria since she is such good friends with them.

Anyhow, where's ROSS PEROT when you need him?

As a dem, I really never liked Pelosi. More retoric than action.

She has provided no leadership to Congress and provided no plan of action. I do believe the current "troop surge" is neglible for the true underlying problem, but Pelosi continues to let the real problem go unchecked.

For all of the non-military/DoD folks reading - part of the so-called surge is the extention of troops already there to increase the force in the AOR. So its not technically a surge at all.

The only troop surge that will "win" the war would send the mid east into chaos (political and maybe militarily) - and thats an occupation force consisting of 150 to 200 thousand troops - a la WWII. If you really want that - get ready for a new draft.

Wouldn't it be nice to have some kind of 'BS' filter for anyone in Washington that opens their mouth? This gossip culture that we've fallen into is so detrimental to any hope of progress.
What metrics did she use for evaluation? Has there been time to assess the effectiveness?

Does she even have the expertise to make this proclamation?

I wonder why the State Department never went after her for this - she broke the law....and walks away scott free - lets enforce the law and let the liberals know there are bad people in the world.....there are people with background information and intelligence reports who know what they are doing - time for Nancy to go.

The Democrats are in a bit of a hard position here... First off they can't stop funding for the war because Bush would keep troops in Iraq as long as possible causing them to have little supplies and be prone to more attacks. By maintaining the funding the Democrats are showing that they support the troops NOT the war. This is going to be a huge misconception in the upcoming election. Republicans are going to say that Democrats had the opportunity to fix Iraq and they voted to keep spending on it as well as a "surge". Basically the Democrats are in darned if they do and darned if they don't. I do think our country is better run by Democrats than Republican however politics has a funny way of working out.

I think Nancy Pelosi is more of a threat to americans than any terrorists. She proved last week when they broke the law and changed a vote that she can't be trusted. We voted democrat last time it was a Mistake that we won't make Again

When you have a Minorty that do this , How do you win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people when a minorty of your Troops bring shame to all of the Coalition forces by doing this for fun ...

All this does is give ammunition and support to the insurgents and bin ladens followers ..

I'd suggest Speaker Pelosi et al do some deep thinking on caving in to Pres. Bush, once again, just before they all took off for vacation. Six months ago I had great expectations of Ms. Pelosi and the Democratically controlled congress. Now, her talk is about as cheap as Bush's. So, what do we have to look forward to? These are sad days in America.

I wish the politicians would stop being so negative and give our troops a chance. They are not even giving the military the time that Congress alotted before they are calling for withdrawal.

Good job CNN for censoring what was a semi-well thought out comment on this blog. Your powers of censorship and spin never cease to amaze me

A new political standard? Would this look anything like the civility and dignity the Democrats pledged to bring to the Congress?

Perhaps it would resemble the pledge by Congress to wait to act until after General Patraeus reports back to congress?

The bottom line is, no matter what the political party you still get a bunch of BS promises and excuses. The day there are true bi-partisan politics will probably be the same day hell freezes over.

Of course she will keep it on the agenda. She doesnt want the next dim Prez to take the hit for losing the war.

Think about it people. Its time for a 3rd party to unite the American middle and counter the status quo.

And why wasn't Iraq "front and center" back in January? I'd imagine we could have most of our men and women home by now.

The death toll will drop in Iraq as time goes on as things become more segregated and there are fewer sectarian enemies alive to kill each other.

That doesn't mean that the surge has worked, it just means that more people are dead.

The Iraqi parliment refuses to sign Bush's "oil law" which is the only benchmark that Bush cares about. If a foreign power was trying to steal 80% of my only valuable natural resource in the name of EXXON, MOBILE and BP, I'd be pretty reluctant to participate too.

What I want to know is why isn't CNN and the other media outlets reporting more about the reason Iraq's parliment keeps walking out.

Do the research and you'll see it's the oil law.

Nancy is correct. A successful surge would indicate that the Iraqis made the important political reconciliations while the surge, a temporary spiked force and security build up occurred. The Iraqis did practically nothing and the surge cannot continue indefinitely.

Keep up the pressure on Iraq--Work for Peace just as hard as we Work for War. When Winning = Peace then we all win and there are no enemies. Is Viet Nam our enemy?
We put terrorism into Iraq now we can learn how to put it out. When we put terrorism out with People seeking Peace then we will put terrorism out worldwide. :)

Madame Speaker should remember that old adage about throwing living in glass houses and throwing stones. Under her gentle tutelage, the US House didn't accomplish one single agenda item that swept the Democrats into power. Pelosi should focus on her own failure and nevermind the status of the surge. And frankly, when she becomes President, then she'll be in a position to second-guess the real thing. -USAPatriot

Wonder what "surge" she is talking about because MOST are now reporting that the surge is reaping benefits. The New York Times of all papers has recently suggested that the surge IS working and that the situation appears to be improving.

This is PROOF that Democratic leaders are not acting in the best interests of the American people. They are so focused on trying to win the presidential election that they are trying to poison the average American's impressions of the extremely important battle in Iraq.

THIS will come back to haunt the Democrats in the election because there can be NO doubt now that the Democrats have chosen selfish political interests over the health and well being of the American people.

DEPLORABLE!

What a suprise that Nancy Pelosi is decrying the surge as a failure, because she knows that when it does work, it will be a huge blow to the Democrats. This kind of negativitey is very harmful to our soldiers who see this and wonder if anyone in America actually supports them and thinks that they can do their jobs. Shame on her.
