WASHINGTON (CNN) - Right before he addresses the VFW National Convention Tuesday, Sen. Barack Obama will announce that Pennsylvania Rep. Patrick Murphy is backing his presidential bid, a well placed source tells CNN.

Murphy, an Iraq war veteran, was elected to Congress in November 2006 and his victory was one of many that helped propel House Democrats into the majority.

Obama, an Illinois Democrat, is scheduled to speak at 12 p.m. ET to the VFW conference, which is taking place in Kansas City, Missouri. The Murphy endorsement will be unveiled during a 11 a.m. conference call.

Dear John; Why don't you write Notable Hillary supporters? Because Obama has only two notable supporters? Don't make people laugh at you, people already know who endorsed Hillary. Sorry, John.

Murphy is an honorable veteran who represents an aging, conservative Rust Belt state that sent Rick Santorum to Congress. Oafrah is hardly an authority on anything other than girl talk to housewives. Not much gravitas.

Paul, New Orleans, LA   August 21st, 2007 2:39 pm ET

He should be supporting RON PAUL. He is the only one who fully understands foreign policy. Why you say??? Because he is on the foreign relations committee in Congress and the financial one as well. No candidate can match that! Everyone of the hopefuls fails to recognize that the US installed its own ruler in Iran in 1953. RON PAUL has the been only one to call this out as one of the many reasons.

Pretty much! Even OJ is voting for hillary wow what a stand up guy he turned out to be. And thats the last guy you want supporting you. Oh no is the juice loose again! lol

John in Chicago,

What a silly comparison. If I were to say OJ Simpson or Paris Hilton support Obama (just a hypothetical) would you say it's fair to say that Obama appelas to a double murderer or a spoiled brat? I am sure there are people with disgusting backrounds supporting ALL of the candidates, but it does not affect the candidate himself/herself.

By the way, an Oprah endorsement turns off more people than it turns on.

Cable King Pittsburgh Pa   August 21st, 2007 1:00 pm ET

Murphy is an impressive, almost progressive representative. His support will help Obama, but not enough to win. In my opinion the posting about "notable supporters is profoundly silly."

Hey John, what kind of cheap shot is that against Hillary???

You must know well enough that she has picked up many endorsements. If some of them come from the porn industry, so what? Remember that the Democratic party is inclusive and these people have a right to vote just the same as any other citizen. Support Obama all you want, but there's no need to attack Hillary implying that there's a correlation between her and the porn industry.

This is great news!
Notable Obama Supporters:

Oprah Winfrey, the most successful, influential African-American female in the world.

Rep. Patrick Murphy, noted Veteran, congressman.

Hilary Clinton Supporters:

Heidi Fleiss- purveyor of 'legal' prostitution.

Jenna Jameson- most successful adult film star in America.

Jesus, are American's really that blind. CNN? Are you too? Jeeze, I never realized what money had the power to do; completely make formerly sensible people nuts.
