HARTFORD, Connecticut (AP) — A spokeswoman for U.S. Senator Chris Dodd says someone broke into his Hartford office last night.

Jamie Radice says she's not sure what was taken and a police investigation is underway. She said the senator's office would have no further comment.

Police say the suspects apparently broke in through a second floor window at Dodd's office on Lewis Street and left evidence at the scene. Police are not saying what that evidence is or what was
stolen.

Authorities believe the burglary happened between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. last night.

Dodd has served in Congress for more than 30 years and is running for the Democratic nomination for president.

We don’t know what happened.

Those taking cheap partisan shots are not helping the American political process.

This is good newz for the Republicans.

Tom - Dedham, Mass   August 27th, 2007 9:03 am ET

This is way above what Democrats would do, as they prefer flattening the vans and bus tires on vehicles that were designated for elderly and handicapped Republican voters in the last two elections.

MSM must have missed that story.

This has the earmarks of Hillary, maybe his files will magically appear on a coffee table in her office. but as usual nobody will question it and it will be business as usual.

At least the Dems get people that are good at it, Nixon picked some real nitwits.

I suspect Dodd broke into his own office. It's was an act of desperation trying to keep his name in the news.

Right wing conspiracies ?

How about a 'vast leftie'. Check the box with those old Rose Law Firm billing records, maybe the stolen materials are there. If we could only locate that elusive box…

Naw, on the other hand, just count the cans of hairspray.

Drew Domalick, Green Bay, WI   August 27th, 2007 4:38 am ET

Don't forget these could just be petty theives…

More of the Clinton's dirty tricks. The Clinton mafia will stop at nothing to rule the world.

Pathetic. When your campaign's going nowhere and you need some free ink, burglarize yourself.

Some of the comments on here are just plain stupid. One person even suggested that "maybe someone is mad that he called another candidate's comments tasteless." Chris Dodd ranks so low in the polls that he probably broke into his office so that he could get some media coverage. Enough with the Hillary bashing.

With all the Watergate jokes it is aparent that many people here forget how many people who were part of the Nixon organization are now also (or were once) part of the Shrub organization - like Cheney, for instance.

Marty, Los Angeles, CA   August 26th, 2007 11:12 pm ET

This is probably something the Democrats staged to frame the GOP

Pat, NY NY   August 26th, 2007 9:57 pm ET

Especially clever, somewhat hilarious, and very sad would be if the Democrats staged this in order to frame the GOP!

Paula, Brentwood, MD   August 26th, 2007 9:49 pm ET

Maybe one of those waitresses got tired of being turned into a sandwich by Dodd and Kennedy.

Mike Dallas, TX   August 26th, 2007 9:28 pm ET

Or may be some people are mad because Dodd called their candidate "tasteless". ha ha ha

John, Dallas TX   August 26th, 2007 9:25 pm ET

Funny that they even bothered to try and snatch something to embarrass him, when he's just a minor footnote in the campaign (at least to CNN)!

KD, Dallas, TX   August 26th, 2007 9:15 pm ET

Sounds like history repeating itself. Wonder who the players are this time?

Jess Walker Saltsburg PA   August 26th, 2007 8:59 pm ET

well said John Edwards. We want a phased redeployment, which will give us the ability to strike hard and heavy in Afghanistan (remember, where the terrorists HQ is) The republicans are in a bubble, everytime they say something, they have to take it back. Listen to Edwards, we want a plan for a responsible withdrawal and to shift the responsibility to the Iraqis. Oh and get the contractors out of there too, they are like leaches on us taxpayers.

I am thinking the thieves just might have made off with his twelve (12) step program for anger management.

What was wrong with this post, CNN dose not have a sense of humor? I am finding out how mucked up CNN really is as they show there true colors. OK; delete my post again and prove it to our nation. Take away the only thing a person has a constitutional right to do. I have a question for the bright minds of CNN’s staff. What separates the upright two legged human animal from the four legged animal? I will speak elsewhere.

Looks like someone desperate wanted to obtain damaging information on a Democratic Senator, now running for President. They should ask G.Gordon Liddy where he was last night. Or rather, where his proteges were. 'Plumbers: The Next Generation'. Nothing changes.

Rob Santa Cruz, CA   August 26th, 2007 8:05 pm ET

Sounds fishy. Where were E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy last night?

The fly on the wall must of find something.
