WASHINGTON (CNN) - Alberto Gonzales' last day as attorney general will be Sept. 16, a senior administration official said Monday.

Paul Clement, Solicitor General of the United States, will be the acting Attorney General.

Gonzales was never more than a "gofer" for the president and had no idea how to conduct his job. It appears that he had no concept of what the constitution is all about. His resignation is good news for the American people.

Usually the Solicitor General is a top-notch nonpolitical officer, but SG Clement has pimped for the Bushies contrary to agencies' recommendations, and is a suspect choice for AG. Example: the SEC staff position favoring investors was overruled in the Stoneridge securities case now before the Supreme Court, where Clement argues against investors.
