Dodd is set to get a big endorsement.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – CNN has learned that Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd’s candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination will receive a boost in the form of an endorsement from the International Association of Firefighters.

The Association will endorse the presidential hopeful at a press conference on Wednesday in Washington.

Dodd, the author of both the FIRE (Fire Investment and Response Enhancement) and SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) acts, was warmly received at the firefighter union’s presidential forum in March. Both pieces of legislation have been responsible for supplying additional federal funds to firefighting units across the country.

The union has had a particularly contentious relationship with Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani. While the former New York City mayor is often lauded for his leadership in the wake of the September 11 attacks, the union’s leaders have argued that he mishandled the search-and-recovery effort at Manhattan’s “Ground Zero.”

Who? I didn't even know this guy was in the race. Ohhh…Dodd - one of the 2nd tier candidates.

I wonder if the firemen know CPR and can resurrect his campaign?

Dodd needs all the help he can get. His botched plan to frame the national GOP by burglarizing his own office was overshadowed by the Gonzales resignation, so he's desperate for anything to make him relevant in this campaign.

Interesting. Could this be a clue to which PAC funded the smeer campaign launched by the fire fighters union against Giuliani?

The International Association of Firefighters is a liberal/socialist union that has NEVER backed a Republican candidate for president. If you think this union speaks for any firefighters, let alone NYC firefighters, you are out of your mind.

steve in howard beach:

ps….IAFF member here, and the IAFF DOES INDEED "SPEAK FOR ME"
And a bunch of other folks as well.

Steve of Howard Beach, NY writes: “If you think this union speaks for any firefighters, let alone NYC firefighters, you are out of your mind.”

So you’re saying an organization composed entirely of firefighters, which exists for the explicit purpose of representing firefighters, doesn’t speak for firefighters, but you do?

I’m not sure we’re the ones who need mental help, Steve.

Watch the video and let the real heroes of 9/11 speak for themselves.

The IAFF really needs to quit endorsing Democrats who don't really care about First Responders and Public Safety. The IAFF certainly doesn't speak for me, just because it is made up of Firefighters doesn't mean it speaks for Firefighters, it speaks for its members, which I am not.

Some people just spew the most ignorant comments based on absolutely no truth at all. Do yourself a favor next time you go to post something Betty. Engage your brain first.

"A 48-year-old drifter who served more than a decade in prison for manslaughter was arrested Monday and charged with the weekend burglary of U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd's office in downtown Hartford.

Police said the suspect was looking for items he could sell to feed his drug habit and probably was unaware he was breaking into the office of a senator who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination."

Well, okay. It won't help him, but okay. Who is he and why is he running? I don't get the joke.
