Romney is out with a new ad in South Carolina.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, trailing in polls here among Republicans, will become the first 2008 presidential candidate to run post-Labor Day television ads in South Carolina.

The advertisement "Leadership," which hit the airwaves in Iowa and New Hampshire last week, will begin running in South Carolina on Wednesday.

The ads show Romney jogging briskly on a sunny road in running shorts while the narrator intones: "Mitt Romney. The energy and experience to turn around Washington."

More ads will be thrown into the rotation in the future.

Romney's South Carolina Communications Director Will Holley did not provide details on media strategy, but said "this is a significant buy." He also said the campaign had a "very light" ad buy on cable in South Carolina back in June.

Romney is already running television ads in Iowa and New Hampshire, where he is leading other Republican candidates in recent polls.

He's such a phony, it's probably just HIS head!

More like Mitt "more of the same ol Bush" Romney...

This is an excellent ad – depicts him as a strong and experienced leader.

Run, Governor, run. The nation is rooting for you.

Mitt Romney is a winner in life, whether or not he spends time leading our country. He doesn't need this, but it will be the pinnacle of his life. His ego and esteem are not dependent up people loving him. He's going to surprise a lot of people in the coming months because he's articulate, clear, a fiscal hawk, and a patriotic American. Religious bigots will come out in attack; people ignorant of the new Mormon will attack but Mitt Romney is already head and shoulders above most people, and I wish I could have a sliver of the success he has achieved.

Actually Pat (NY) if Mitt wins the Presidency there might be some ACTUAL education on Mormon beliefs – as opposed to the second hand half-truths you've posted.

Mormons CAN drink whatever they want – milk, tea, beer, water. They are counseled, by scripture, to avoid substances that are habit-forming (tea, coffee, cigarettes, etc). This, for Mormons, is a higher spiritual law deriving from the belief if your body is addicted to something you're not free to fully give yourself to God.

Buddhists take a vow to protect ALL life (bugs, animals, etc). Would you insult a Buddhist monk for his beliefs too?

Roman Catholics believe the Eucharist (bread and wine) ACTUALLY become the body and blood of Christ once the elements enter the body of a believer. Would you insult a devout Catholic for this belief?

Correction:

I meant to say Mitt has barrelled as far RIGHT as possible on the issues in question. Sorry about that!

I guess his first amendment rights don't matter? Bag on the guy because he's Mormon, that's weak. It's shows as much class as those who criticize Barney Frank, not for his decisions, but because he's special.

Romney actually formulated a bi-partisan plan while guv of Massachusetts that provides private insurance for ALL. I haven't been able to do all the research necessary to have a clear understanding of all facets of the program.

It's also too early to tell how effective the program will be, but he has made the effort which was passed by a majority Democratic state legislature.

I also wouldn't mind having him as my banker or investment consultant, he seems pretty capable there.

Pat, both your comments about shorts and caffeine are in error. I'm going to bet that most of your understanding of that religion is based on urban myths....Lighten up, he's a good guy.

Is Mr. Romney running towards the White House or away from it?

Steven in Charleston, SC   September 5th, 2007 3:20 pm ET

As a resident of South Carolina, I am watching Mitt's emerging presence here with a great deal of interest.

On the one hand, ever since starting to run, Mr. Romney has barrelled as far left as he can on issues such as Abortion, Gay Rights, and Immigration, adopting the same knee-jerk stances held by most Republicans in the state.

On the other hand, he is a member of a church regularly sneered at and villified by the so-called "Christian" majority here.

It will be interesting to see which category of ignorance and bigotry wins out.

RUN MITT RUN....All the way off of the political landscape

Pat, Huntington, NY   September 5th, 2007 2:32 pm ET

If he wins the presidency, at least the white house can save money on coffee since mormons are not allowed to consume caffiene.

New Bern, NC   September 5th, 2007 2:19 pm ET

people who pick on mormons will soon find out that our heavenly father loves them just like he loves everybody else...and yes PAT mormons can run in shorts lol – I should no I was a Marine MORMON...

Pat, Huntington, NY   September 5th, 2007 2:00 pm ET

Are mormons allowed to run in shorts? No. He's unfit for president.

David, Gilbert Arizona   September 5th, 2007 1:44 pm ET

President Bush jogs too. How is this commercial showing Mitt any different than the President we already have?

This commercial shows me more of the same, and to be honest I don't want to see any of the candidates in running shorts thank you very much.

Give me substance not a slogan. This reminds me of the commercial with Kerry on a windsurfer. No one wants to see that.

Tom - Dedham, Mass   September 5th, 2007 1:27 pm ET

Introducing our next President of these United states.

Reach across the aisle Mitt and reunite this country, trust me all Democrats are not like the hacks that inhabit Taxachusetts.

Arlen, Jamestown   September 5th, 2007 12:22 pm ET

Fantastic! Shows that a candidate doesn't have to degrade others and make vague promises to succeed.

Mark, Princeton, NJ   September 5th, 2007 11:10 am ET

Go, Mitt! Or should I say – run, Mitt, run!

jamie - santa barbara, ca.   September 5th, 2007 10:41 am ET

Romney in running shorts?! Where do I sign up ?!

Shawnie Cannon, Grants Pass OR   September 5th, 2007 10:37 am ET

I love this ad!
