Watch CNN's Bill Schneider report on Oprah's potential role in the Obama campaign.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The impact of a prominent presidential endorsement often fails to resonate at the polls, but popular talk show host Oprah Winfrey's backing of Barack Obama could prove to have a more significant effect.

Oprah, who first told CNN's Larry King last year she is backing Obama, may assume a visible role in his presidential bid, a source close to the Illinois senator tells CNN. She is already slated to hold a star-studded fundraiser at her California estate this weekend.

Oprah has repeatedly shown her name can sell nearly anything, but the media magnate has never endorsed a presidential candidate before.

It remains to be seen if the popular talk show host's role may go beyond raising money from her Hollywood friends, but the prospect of seeing Oprah in campaign commercials or on the stump is already causing widespread speculation on the effect she may have.

I have come to the conclusion that Oprah is a reverse racialist, and it has become more obvious. I was a big fan in the beginning of her career, but the more celebrity she achieved, the more blatant it has become. I wish she would have refrained from entering the political arena. I also was intrigued but Barack Obama, but now, I don't know. Hiliary is looking better and better.

Patrick Power- Deptford, NJ   September 13th, 2007 11:49 pm ET

tsk..tsk..tsk Let's keep it real, guys. What is her talent? The fact is- Oprah Winfrey is a rip-off. She used the old Phil Donahue forum to nourish a career that incorporated the politically correct issue of our time- male bashing.

How many caucasions did she invite to her "Legends" night? I give her credit one thing though- being a cunning con artist that has house-frows, live audiences and book clubs members (mostly white) believing they have a black friend. Do you really thinks she likes caucasions? Cut me a break!

But, in a democracy she has a right to be a pied-piper and endorse of her choice…any surprise it's Mr. Obama?

Mark Ellis - Greenwich, Connecticut   September 13th, 2007 1:01 pm ET

Oprah Winfrey is a fraud as far as I am concerned. The woman has the audacity to except millions of dollars from Americas then instead of building a school for the impovrished African Amercian, Asian Amercian, Hispanic American- White American kids she goes to Africa and builds one. BULL! Hey lady you would be nothing if it were not for the Amercian people supporting all of your products. You give back to the people who gave you what have, then you have the right to be a philanthropist anywhere you choose!I hope people start seeing you for the person you really are.

Lee williams you said, you can't stand Oprah because she endorsed Obama ,do you have aproblem or you're just a racist.so many people like you have been hiding their racism but if she had endorsed a white person what would you say,why didn't you comment when she endorsed Dr.Phil and others of your choice.would you not stand her.Idon't think anyone educated can stand your thinking.

Lowell/IN,
Legislating shows someone's knowledge who can even be president.sitting and waiting for other people's documents to sign or approve what one has said its insane not thinking much only to rely on false documents and sign them without enough facts and you think that one can be president of US that is not good judgement that's why people need abig change in washington like it or not only fools will be fooled again like 2004 making the same mistake like you SIR think twice or use your common sense.

Tom - Dedham, Mass   September 10th, 2007 9:28 am ET

I am a fan of Obama's wife and was one of the posters that applauded her for being real on a previous blog, her husband seems like a good guy as well, even as an independent/Republican I would be thrilled if he beat out Shrillary for the nomination, for the sole eason being he is twice the candidate she is and twice the human being.

If Oprah wants to endorse him, good for her, in this capitalist society that progressives hate so much, she is a self made person who achieved NOT via "what can the government do for me", but by hard work and dedication.

Bravo to her, I do find it disappointing that she has not voted in the primaries since 1988 though (researched I am sure by the Clinton political attack machine).

Mrs. Obama best "be ware," Oprah loves married men!

Neet, Charlotte, NC   September 9th, 2007 4:10 pm ET

I have read all of the comments about Oprah being a racist because of her decision to endorse Barack Obama. While I do not want to spend a lot of time elaborating on Oprah’s decision, I am, however, incensed over the banter about her being a racist because of her decision. Only the uninformed, misinformed, and nauseatingly obtuse can accuse any black American of being a racist.

Please KNOW that racism is a peculiarity assigned to WHITE people in America. When black people do not like, or in extreme cases hate, white people, it is not because black people are racist, it is because of the disparity blacks in America have experienced (and still experience) at the hands of white America. Black people in America did not enslave white people in America, nor did black people institute JIM CROWE. Black people in America did not create an economic system that derived billions of dollars from selling white people in America, nor did black Americans exact free labor for white Americas. Black folk in America have NEVER, EVER systematically OPPRESSED white folk in America.

PEOPLE, the psyche of America is sick and her spirit is broken and this kind of iniquitous banter only contributes to America’s ills.

"I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today."

Shantee, When Obama married to Oprah?
Hillary and Bill are wife and husband. Do you understand family? I guess not.
I never watched Oprah because she acts in lordly manner with her money. Now she proved it again with Obama. Oprah is better than Michelle, that is sure.

hawnstyle   September 7th, 2007 6:33 pm ET

Is Obama black? He is a weak pansy of a man, if you can call him that, hiding behind his wife, and racist Oprah… this will backfire, and Oprah will be crying next year…

OPRAH, THIS IS ALL ABOUT RACE!

AJ; Montpelier, VT   September 7th, 2007 8:07 am ET

This is hardly news. Oprah would endorse Hitler if he were alive and black.

Amy, FL   September 7th, 2007 1:16 am ET

And what is up with the uproar over Oprah actually endorsing a candidate. Is she a US citizen? If yes, then she has every right to endorse whomever she wants. For all the capitalists out there, she built her TV show, she owns the production company, she worked hard and she can do whatever she damn well chooses with it, whether it be including or excluding guests. It's her perogative.

I cannot believe the amount of comments on this thread. SHE'S A CITIZEN AND CAN ENDORSE WHOMEVER SHE CHOOSES, the end. Who cares.

Amy, FL   September 7th, 2007 1:10 am ET

An awful lot of white folks saying Oprah must be endorsing Obama because he's black.

But, ok, it's a reasonable point; Bill Clinton may have endorse Hillary just because she's white.

Posted By Carrington Ward, Queens NY

LOL, too funny. Point well made. Time to stop associating and judging people by their race. We are a diverse country with many many races/ethnicities. Judge Obama and the others by their character and vision and any other attribute other than race….it's irrelevant.

Monique, Atlanta, GA   September 7th, 2007 12:59 am ET

If Oprah knew ANYTHING about politics she would vote for Ron Paul.

Steve, Austin, Tx   September 7th, 2007 12:47 am ET

Oprah should stay out of politics at this level. It might just come around her and bite her. Of course why would someone with Billions care? I wish she would be this aggressive with the rap industry in cleaning up their act. That is a ball she dropped!

Claude, Mesa AZ   September 7th, 2007 12:34 am ET

Obama attracts integrity upon integrity. Hillary attracts fraud upon fraud. Awesome choice Oprah and I wish you the best. Thank you for making the best choice for the people. I don't watch your show, but I know who you are and your roots. You have come a LONG way overcoming many many obstacles. It's great to see you recognize that Obama has the same gift.

James, Olaya Street, Riyadh   September 7th, 2007 12:27 am ET

Oprah has the same right to try to influence the election as every pig farmer in Iowa and every sex worker in Nevada. Come on DNC, let's hear it for Oprah!

Andrew, Jakarta, Indonesia   September 7th, 2007 12:17 am ET

To Wendy from Lexington, you are absolutely right. Media people should refrain from voicing an opinion, but instead should only report the prepared texts of the candidates. Welcome to the People's Republic, people.

hawnstyle   September 7th, 2007 12:11 am ET

I used to have some respect for Obama… But to hide behind two strong women is weak. He should wear a pink skirt and call Oprah mommy… Eventually, this move by Oprah will backfire and the nails will be driven in Obamas coffin… GO ROMNEY!!!

Evan Esteves, Boca Raton, FL   September 7th, 2007 12:01 am ET

I have now come to think that the reason Obama threads get so much visible hate from the neo conservatives on here…Is that you all are very scared of the prospect of facing him in the general election. Unfortunately for you guys though, your stupidity will not sway democrats choice for a nomination…we listened to you guys for the last 7 1/2 years…we've all had enough!

Walters, A   September 6th, 2007 11:36 pm ET

It's really amazing for people to jump on Oprah for having her preference. She is simply endorsing Obama, Just like Brerizieski and congressman Murphy, does it means those two are racist too. please the blogs should be aim at intellectual opinions inorder to advance the political discourse. AL Sharpton, Jesse Jackson were also blacks running for office and if Oprah was all about race she would have endorsed any of these black candidates before, so please don't jump to stupid conclusions
Obama 2008.

Joe Memphis, TN   September 6th, 2007 10:57 pm ET

Go Oprah. She is an American. She can support any one she wants. No one complains if a white celebrity supports a white politician like Barbara Streisand, Steve Spielberg and Hillary Clinton. Guess what Mr. Spielberg has been throwing fundraisers for her. But OMG if the black celebrities happen to support black candidates they known for 12 years. They are labeled racist. Stop using the race card. Its being over played. Stop! Your jealousy against both Oprah and Obama is crystal clear. Heres the strange thing Oprah knows the man. Let me say this again she has known him for over 12 years. If you don't like the fact that she is supporting a friend she has known for 12 YEARS then go work on someone else's campaign.

Amanda, Chicago IL   September 6th, 2007 10:48 pm ET

To Ed Mares:

Obama did NOT say that he would go into the middle east without congressional approval. He said that he would send troops to areas where there is ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE. Anyone would send troops where there was actionable intelligence, especially as to where Bin Ladin is hiding, which is what he was referring to.

It's ok if you don't want to vote for him, but make sure that it's for the right reasons. And not because you've been given faulty information.

And to everyone else on this board: Oprah is not just a black woman. And Obama is not just a black man. And I'm hoping that Oprah will get America to see that he is NOT just a black man. He is a highly educated individual with more imagination and vision for this country than anyone we've seen in the past. Maybe his resume isn't as lengthy as you care for, but our #1 requirement for a leader should be a conscience. And he's the only one who demonstrates a real care and concern for the people.

Jim, Smithtown NY   September 6th, 2007 9:49 pm ET

Oh yeah, just what we need – another somebody who claims they are not a Washington insider…Neither was Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter…all those outsiders did us a lot of good. Hillary has shown she can work with anyone and get things done. Let's not blow this election because "I just don't like her" mentality. It's either Hillary or another Republican…

Wendy   September 6th, 2007 9:37 pm ET

The poll you cited did not say Obama got more vote from educaqted people. Obama and Hillary Clinton split the votes from educated people but Clinton has more support

Why is it so difficult for people to just accept someone being an American considering the dire of the American Constitution?

Reading comments against Oprah's decision to support Obama really makes feel like the founding fathers only wasted their lives. We are so far away from living the real America values. Bill is supporting Hillary, no problem. Oprah is supporting Obama, that is racist.

What happened to freedom of rights, justice and the pursuit of happiness? Please, let me know when you find out.

Oprah's endorsement of Obama is absolutely wonderful. She is attracting much needed attention to Barack Obama and what he stands for. He should be our president and I am overjoyed at her outright in your face support of him, he deserves it and I hope to god he is elected. Anyone who meets him and feels his energy will know that he is good for us. I agree with his plans and think more people should be aware of his plan for the presidency, she is intriguing people, her fans will want to know who she is so sure of, they will go and find out. She is using her power for the greater good to educate us about how wonderful this man is! He is someone to believe in, he is a miracle, he has never put anyone candidate down one time as every other candidate has done, Barack is a positive force. He is infectious, and we need him.

To Kimbrlyton, who in the post immediately above just said a "great guy like Obama could never get elected because he is black. Why, my son just got called the N word…"

I am young, I'm white, and I've never in my life taken more than a casual glance at the political pages of CNN or another media outlet before, much less gotten involved in a campaign.

I could give a rats ass what color Barack Obama is. He has inspired me in a way no politician of my generation ever has. He has blasted a ray of light over the darkness that is American fear, oppression and hatred and called us back home again, back home to a country where anything actually IS possible. Where anyone can make a difference. Where we actually can take charge of our country again and make it whole, actually make our souls whole again by picking our leader for a change instead of letting him be picked for us, by actually standing up and saying, "enough. YOU OUT THERE will not dictate my fate any longer."

I had a conversation with an older black woman at work the other day about Obama.

She likes him, but didn't support him, even though her sister was supposedly working her ass off for his campaign in L.A. This woman preferred Hillary, and she said the exact same thing you just said… "America is too racist to let such a great black man get elected."

She also added she felt something bad would befall him if he did manage to get the job.

I told her that she's right only when she says that racists won't vote for Obama. They may give him lip service, but when voting time comes, they'll stay home with their heads hung in shame. Or maybe they'll vote another way once alone with their bigoted views. Alone. Unheard. A legend in their own minds. Is that the majority of this nation?

No. It's what gives meaning to the word, "minority."

Those sad people, those closeted racists you speak of… they can NEVER overtake the good heart that is the center of this still great nation of ours. We are a nation of ideas, not color. For every one of them that stays at home, alone, wrought by their own fears and the propaganda of others, ten more people who've never even thought about politics before, people like myself, will get excited enough about Barack Obama and his war, his war of IDEAS, to not only vote but bring a car load of others to vote as well.

From what I've seen they'll be ALL colors. They'll come in busses, in vans, on bikes. They'll wait in the rain at precincts that have broken voting machines and they'll refuse to go home even if it means they could lose their jobs. They'll work until five o clock and call undecided voters until nine when they have to go to bed again. They'll actually start caring about this country in a way maybe they only saw through the prism of their childhoods, if ever.

The American innocence that they once felt lost forever, they'll discover again, one by one, as they realize motion is perpetual and never too late. And once the foundation is built, it will be built upon until the backward thinking minority you so worry about is comfortably in the back of the bus, finally and for good.

The neocons and their ilk will toss voter registrations out by the bushel, they'll pour provisional ballots and voter I.D.s like water on fire.
But like brave soldiers before machine guns, people will keep coming. Brand new voters right along old ones will refill the bucket again and again, with more and more enthusiasm, until the well overflows.

Because, for once, they'll care. don't you see that? They'll really, truly start to take charge of the government of this country and when that happens, not bigots, not neocons, not fear mongers, nobody but nobody will be able to prevent the election of Senator Barack Obama.

And don't you think Obama knows the stakes? As my friend at work pointed out, don't you think he knows that by putting himself in such a position as the first viable black candidate for president in U.S. history he is putting not only his life but that of his family at risk?

The woman I spoke to Obama with, well, she left a bit less ready to say that Obama could never do it. She's going with her sister the next time she attends an event. She's still undecided, but at least her ears are open and so are her eyes.

Only you can count yourself out. Nobody else but. You cannot suppress what WILL NOT BE SUPRESSED.

Many people have ideas. Many people have facts, figures and smarts. Yet, only one person in a generation can inspire the sort of passion that can actually accomplish real change.
Barack Obama is that person.

He is the next president of the United States, but only after we get off our asses and even off these boards and into the real world where we can make it happen.

The greatest fear is always within.

Obama 08

Carrington Ward, Queens NY   September 6th, 2007 6:31 pm ET

"I'm afraid if Obama is elected the likes of Al Sharpton would have a direct line to the white house, this would be a complete circus."

Em… doubtful. Sharpton hasn't endorsed Obama. It might be a worry for some that Paul Hodes (NH) and the entire Vermont delegation have likely earned themselves a 'line to the white house' with their early and whole-hearted endorsement. But, you might say, that's a Holstein of a different color.

Carrington Ward, Queens NY   September 6th, 2007 6:24 pm ET

An awful lot of white folks saying Oprah must be endorsing Obama because he's black.

They're probably the same folks who wonder "why all the black kids sit together in the cafeteria?" without stopping to think that the white kids sit together too.

But, ok, it's a reasonable point; Bill Clinton may have endorse Hillary just because she's white.

Jamal. Tulsa, OK   September 6th, 2007 6:20 pm ET

This talk about Oprah is an insult to black people. Stop it now! White people don't own us. Black people can endorse whoever they please or feel is more qualified.

Quincy Jones and Maya Angelou (black people whom I admire) have endorsed Hillary Clinton.

Oprah Winfrey (a black woman I admire very much) has endorsed Barack Obama. Why are Hillary supporters being disingenuous about this?

I can understand why you feel threatened (and you should be), but I think you're doing your candidate a disservice and black voters are paying attention.

AT, San Francisco, CA   September 6th, 2007 6:15 pm ET

Guess Obama may become a VP.

KD, Dallas, TX   September 6th, 2007 5:44 pm ET

Some of these responses are so narrow minded. To say that Oprah is only endorsing Obama because he is black? I happen to think he is rather remarkable as well and I am white, well educated masters degree, 48. I research the candidates to know what they stand for. I see Oprah doing the same. Rarely has someone come along that has the passion and intuition to be a leader like Obama does. Those that think HIllary has more experience really need to write down what she has done, compare it to Obama and rethink their "bandwagon" stand. Hillary has been selling that campaign and it just isn't true. In all honestly, I have voted democratic for quite some time (I never voted for Bush). However, if Hillary were to run against Romney, I would vote for Romney over Clinton for sure. Hillary to me represents what is wrong with our government.

Georgia   September 6th, 2007 5:24 pm ET

Two things Obama has in common:

1. cockiness

2. What eye are you looking at?

One things I have in common with Oprah and Obama: "I can't stand either one of them"

A Smith, suburban Houston, TX   September 6th, 2007 5:18 pm ET

You didn't get the memo?

Unfortunately, some peole's disdain with Oprah supporting someone has everything to do with a powerful black woman supporting a HALF black male. In Amerikkka, blacks aren't supposed to be seen supporting, endorsing, financially backing each other in public site because it will upset some whites who will claim anything but thier own prejudice and white priveledge superiority issues.

As AA, we are only supposed to kill each other and tear each other down. The racially charged and ignorant comments on this site is why I don't bother with CNN's blogs as much anymore.
I prefer posters who have more than 10 brain cells like the folks at dailykos dot com.

For the record, GO OBAMA!!!!! :)

PR, Dallas, Tx   September 6th, 2007 4:57 pm ET

Endorsing do not win elections. It's something more subtle, "MONEY" Money buys presidencies. I have been voting for almost 50 years now. I will dare make a prediction. Neither Mrs. Clinton, nor Mr Obama I think stand a chance. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think this great nation of ours is ready to vote into office neither a woman, nor a member of "minority". Again, I hope I am wrong. I would like to see that happen in my lifetime. I expect a male Caucasian to win.

Al, KS   September 6th, 2007 4:55 pm ET

Some of you need to get over your racial bias. Learn to be color blind…and assume that others are as well. There is absolutly no evidence that anyone is backing someone because of race or gender. There are all sorts of celebrities and politicians out there that have cast their lot with one candidate or another. Some are white, some are black, some are female, some are male. It's just not right to assume that you can speak for what motivates another human being.

Maria, Houston   September 6th, 2007 4:54 pm ET

Any day I'd rather see celebrities bringing attention to politics and important causes than mainstream media bringing attention to Paris Hilton & co. I don't have time to watch Oprah show, but she is making thoughtful and compassionate choices and this is just one more example. And for those who belittle her endorsment I'd like to remind you that Barack Obama , "the inexperienced candidate", is endorsed by Zbygniew Brzezinski, highly respected former US National Security Advisor (called also Democratic equivalent of Henry Kissinger)who praised his qualities and abilities in comparison to specifically Hillary Clinton. And BTW, another great Obama supporter is George Clooney, (the white guy), so could it be that those speculations about " Vast Black Conspiracy" are unfounded? :-) Its all about Integrity, Vision and Conviction, folks, that's what true leaders are made of and Barack Obama has it.

Tony, Dallas TX   September 6th, 2007 4:42 pm ET

Too much racist hatred in this post. What is the matter with you people?. Is this what America is turning to be?. Those people who are spitting venom because of this endorsement are racists at best. How come no one raised any such questions when Madamme DC endorsed Clinton, or Steven Spielberg for that matter. What is the difference?. These posts also smell of sheer envy for this endorsement pick up by Barack. Shame on you people and grow up. Think how much you are poisoning the country with such utterances. May the mature stand up please!!

John Wilson Racine, WI   September 6th, 2007 4:32 pm ET

For all of you buffons who say, Oprah can back anyone she wants…it is still a free country, isn't it?" NO! And it hasn't been a free country for a good long time now!
Your pool of choices are a few millionaires and a few other would be millionaires…How is that free?
You languish in your illusion that you have a CHOICE?
When everyone in AMERICA can afford to spend 500 – 800 million dollars on an election, you will have a CHOICE!
Until that time, just realize that your only LIMITED CHOICE is among a few millionaires or would be millionaires whom other millionaires have put up for you to vote on…

Max, Dallas, TX   September 6th, 2007 4:24 pm ET

Ok..ok…I get it. All men hate Oprah, but since this is the very first time she has completely endorsed a candidate, shouldn't we take notice. Granted she'll never be broke, but she has a lot of credability to lose when the women's vote has been so biased towards the conservative campaigns within the last 8 years. She is obviously a very good business woman and sees something very valuable in Mr. Obama. This is a BIG move and we would be stupid to underestimate Ms. Winfrey's capabilities this early in the game.

Don from Oregon says:

"…I really don't care who Oprah endorses. Obama will still not get the nomination. Hillary will get it and most likely become the first female President of the United States. Oprah should be prepared for the blowback though as should Obama – like it or not – dispute it or not – there will be lots of resentment against Oprah for this and that will translate into loss of votes for Obama."

It seems we are in the reasoned-comments phase. Excellent!

William, Chicago IL   September 6th, 2007 4:20 pm ET

I have read every single comment on here also and I think I'm going to vote for the lady from OK. I want someone like that in the Whitehouse. Hasn't been bought and paid for by PAC and Special Interest Groups. We can start a gressroots campaign for her. I'm on board Shelly, Owasso Ok. How do I get in touch with you?

Grace, NH   September 6th, 2007 4:20 pm ET

I'm confused…why do all of you Oprah haters and Obama haters care whether she has "blow Back"?

i think you just want to try to scare her or persuade her not to do it. Well anyone who knows Oprah she doesn't scare easy…she stood up to the cattle industry in TX when they sued her.

She does not consider herself a jounalist anymore but if she did …I didn't her anyone complaining when Adra Mitchell from NBC attended a hillary fun raiser..then goes on TV and pretends to cover the race objectively.

As for money, the women is worth BILLIONS do you think she cares. If she wants to do it she will. She doesn't ever have to work again.

If you don't want to watch oprah now or later fine, if you don't want to vote for Obama fine…don't. be honest you care because she has the ability to allow him a platform to speak from that you which your candidate had. Espicially those Hillary supporters are GREEN with envy or is it fear that smells. All of a sudden you won't have the MSM running interference with Obama getting his message out and shaping everything in her favor.

Tell Hillary she needs to start worrying about staying out of jail since she is being sued again tommorrow in CA court over new campaign Finance problems(again). maybe that is why oprah is not supporting her

Which poll are you looking at? I hope not the Clinton News Network polling.

Unfortunately, some of the posts on this board are very suspect.

Polls are the only thing the Clinton's took at. In the words of Dick Morris (the most honest man from the Clinton White House) the Clintons have NEVER met a 60% poll they didn't like. I just heard another Clintonite on MSNNBC say that Hillary Clinton has taken the side of what is best regarding poll. Well, we know she will never be a "Profile in Courage."

One thing I can say about Pres. Bush he doesn't look at polling numbers to make a decision.

GenX, Kansas   September 6th, 2007 4:13 pm ET

It sickens me the amount of hatred and bigotry spewing from the people on this board. This is why a qualified, intelligent black man could never be elected president at this point – not in this type of diabolical climate. Shame on you Un-Americans. You are not what this country is about! Hopefully this hatred will go with you all to your graves and will not be passed on to my generation, so that we may have a fresh start and bring intelligence back to politics (if it was ever there to begin with)….

Lee, NE PA   September 6th, 2007 4:12 pm ET

This is all about race with Oprah!

She would go with a woman (Clinton), if Obama wasn't black.

Stopped watching her years ago…too high and mighty!

Obama isn't ready!

I really don't care who Oprah endorses. Obama will still not get the nomination. Hillary will get it and most likely become the first female President of the United States. Oprah should be prepared for the blowback though as should Obama – like it or not – dispute it or not – there will be lots of resentment against Oprah for this and that will translate into loss of votes for Obama.

Kathe Oakland California   September 6th, 2007 3:38 pm ET

Before Oprah was saying Hill would be next president – now it is Obama??? Who is this Oprah anyway nothing more than a day time entertainer that is all folks – she is not God she has no great degrees, just a RICH black women. So why did she not endorse Jessie Jackson when he ran – he is a black man too.
Don't be fooled Obama People – having Oprah on your team is a GREAT BIG MISTAKE!!!! She will bring you down, down, down. It will take more than her monies to get Obama elected and her potential role in his campaign is TROUBLE. She has no political background, she won't even speak up with Imus demeaned those women on basketball team – now she is for Obama???
WAKE UP AMERICA

David, Los Angeles, CA   September 6th, 2007 3:38 pm ET

Hmmm, don't know if this a good thing for Obama yet in terms of demographics. Oprah is admired in the black community for her success, but there is also a huge segment of the black community who feels she is totally out of touch with black culture, especially given her fan base of, let's face it, white housewives who might not ever vote for Obama.

Also, men in general don't really care for Oprah at all.

Endorsements and money are good, but I don't think it is in Obama's best interest to have it appear as though Oprah is intimately involved in his campaign. I don't think voters mind voting for Hillary and Bill, but I think they will not be willing to vote for Obama and Oprah.

It would not be so strange if Oprah had not shied away from politics for so long, and it does beg the question of why, after all these years, is Oprah finally endorsing a candidate? What makes Obama so very different from Edwards, Dean, Gore, Bradley, Bill, Clark, Gov. Wilder, Gov. Brown, McCarthy and all the others?

cjones, suburban Chicago   September 6th, 2007 3:31 pm ET

I have read every single comment here. Wow. The hate. The divisiveness. Both of those things are things Obama has had experience with. I have known him since before he ran for Congress and from my own personal view, we need a man like him leading this severely damaged country. He may make a few mistakes, but he's the only one that has a chance, if there is one, of healing this country first. I know that Oprah sees that as well. What is wrong with her telling her viewers? I am a white woman, over-educated, and will be proud to call Hillary, Pres if that is what happens, but my hopes are with Obama and anyone who still has hope should take a closer look.

kathe Oakland California   September 6th, 2007 3:29 pm ET

I am sorry but Oprah needs to stick to her white TV shows and Leave Obama and his campaign alone.
Don't know that you realize it, but some of us don't watch or perform to Oprah's call – even us black women. So now I have two folks who make me want to throw up with their comments: Oprah and Mrs. Edwards. I feel Oprah will hurt Obama's campaign.

Nan, Atlanta, GA   September 6th, 2007 3:22 pm ET

Oprah's endorsement of Barack Obama will have no impact on his campaign. He will not win! Neither will Hillary, if either of these candidates are the nominee for the Democratic party, the Repulican Party will become energized. Another Republician will be elected in 2008.

Tony, Mount Vernon, NY   September 6th, 2007 3:20 pm ET

With his numbers in the polls slipping and all the major union endorsements going to his competitors even though he claims to be a man of the people, I guess he needs Oprah right about now. However, I don't think it will do him any good. Hollywood tried to get out the vote for Kerry and we all know how that turned out.

As a journalist though, I find Oprah's endorsement insulting. How can you claim to do honest reporting and openly endorse one candidate or one party over another? Sure, we all have an opinion, but you try to keep that out of your reporting to give the public a more well-rounded picture so they can make up their own minds. Shame on you Oprah!

Matt, Albany, GA   September 6th, 2007 3:19 pm ET

Lou, Mississippi   September 6th, 2007 3:13 pm ET

Those who are upset by this endorsement are only angry because Oprah didn't endorse THEIR CANDIDATE.

Bottom line, the numbers DON'T LIE! Vice President Gore was up on Governor Bush by 10 points, Sept. 16th or there about. He went on Oprah's show, kissed her and the next poll showed Vice President Gore up by only 2 points.

Oprah has alot of clout with women in general. White, Black, or poka-dot purple. This is a big get for the Obama campaign. The only one left is Vice President, uh, I mean President Gore. And rumors are that he is going to endorse, NOT HILLARY! LOL

Good job Obama camp.

Hilda, Baltimore MD   September 6th, 2007 3:13 pm ET

First: Oprah can endorse whomever she pleases (afterall, this is still a free country, isn't it?).

Second: This has nothing to do with race and the sooner Americans get out of that mindset, the better off we will all be. If this were racially-motivated, why did Oprah not endorse Al Sharpton and Carol Moseley Braun when they were running?

Third: Oprah may JUST be an entertainer, but so were Ronald Reagan and Governator Arnie. Like it or not, she's a pretty powerful lady.

Cary - Lowell IN   September 6th, 2007 3:12 pm ET

See, no amt. of power is enough for Oprah because she needs power over others to feel self-esteem. This stems from her upbringing. Knowing the President is the closest she can come to political office. She doesn't want to give of her own time to run for office, so she'll piggyback on Obama. He's perfect- he's black, he's vaguely spiritual like her, and he's a blank canvas onto which the masses can project their own image. Obama doesn't stand for anything, so he can be anything to anyone. Oprah is over the top in ego, emotion and feel-good philosophy (not that there's anything wrong with that) and Obama is the perfect vehicle for that. Now, President of the United States, leader of the Free World, I don't think so.

P.S. Oprah has announced/proclaimed/declared that she is ONLY HAVING ONE candidate on her show. And it's Barack. In other words, she's not open to debate. The case is closed, she's wearing blinders to others' opinions.

Brenda, Annapolis MD   September 6th, 2007 3:07 pm ET

1. We should really attempt to have more faith in our fellow Americans. I find it hard to at times (neither election did I vote for Bush, yet citizens from other countries chastise me as if I had); however, it's important to refrain from being so cynical. Oprah is supporting him because she "knows him personally", which kind of sounds like high school when you vote for your friend for class president just because they're your friend. I doubt Oprah will have as much of an impact as she (or Obama) thinks.

2. I said "so cynical" in the previous comment. With that, I still chose to remain cynical about the quality of the candidates (Repub or Dem) for president. How disheartening to feel utterly helpless at the lack of quality for the most significant position of our country? What's more, I'm only 23–and I haven't believed in our government for a long time now.

3. Not a single candidate has expressed their plan for the country in any kind of way but vague. Obama is probably one of the worst at failing to give specifics. Not to mention his actions truly speak for themselves (Remember the debacle with Pakistan? And he hasn't even been elected). How many times is it going to take us to realize, we can't be so forgiving of the people ELECTED to run this country? It's OUR country; WE'RE the ones who need to fix it.

4.Tapera Bandera, Toronto–Obama is the Nelson Mandela of America? How can you even put both in the same sentence? That is the crudest comparison I've seen in a long time.

Micki Santa Clarita CA   September 6th, 2007 3:02 pm ET

I'm hoping Oprah's involvement will get the American people to really look at the candidates and the party platforms. I would love to have a candidate to vote FOR rather than having to chose between the least of two evils. Now more than ever, our country needs some real leadership and, quite frankly, I don't care if it is a man or woman, black, white or purple with pink polka dots!!

I will be hoping and praying that we get a real choice and some real action. A previous post listed a lot of the issues that the new President will be dealing with (and hit most of them right on the head)! We must have a change — a change for the better.

WHO will get us there?

WHICH IS VERY SAD, i will not watch her show anymore

Brent   September 6th, 2007 2:54 pm ET

Why doesn't Oprah just run herself? Oh wait, she could never win. Neither can Obama, but at least he won't have a reputation to ruin (he has no reputation at all, and that is ALL he has going for him). Obama is a worthless candidate. Being a well spoken black man does not automatically qualify him to lead the country –especially considering some of the crisis that we face with hostile anti-American/Western regimes and terrorism.

The only worse candidate in my view, would be Clinton. Bill did nothing about terrorism during his terms. Why would Hillary act any differently? She wants to ignore the threats to our country and raise yours and my taxes, so she can "buy" support for socialism through "free" health care. However, anyone with a brain knows that America has by far, the best health care in the world. Also, Universal Health care is only free for those who already don't contribute jack our Nation anyway, primarily because it is far more convenient and easy to blame someone else for not working, rather than having a strong work ethic, an aptitude and motivation toward success, and the satisfaction and appreciation that only comes from earning a living through hard work — resulting in self reliance for oneself and his family. People who work have insurance — and that is the bottomline.

What is pathetic about both of these candidates is the fact that they rely on people who are too lazy and/or dumb to make a career for themselves by utilizing whatever talent that God have given as a gift to them. It is far easier to not take responsibility for yourself, because when times are rough, it is always somebody else's fault.

By the way, it seems to me that this welfare system is a horrible failure, since there are still an awful lot of people on it. You would think that this "free" money might help people get on their feet. You would think wrongly. Why work and take responsibility for your own life, when you can let some other moron do it?

So if you want to let some other moron run your life, vote for a liberal.

TalkAboutChange, Ames, IA   September 6th, 2007 2:52 pm ET

Oprah only endorses genuine article and Oprah's endorsement is not for die-hard Hillary supporters. It is for independent open-minded voters who would like to give Obama a second look.

Those posting negative comments here are jealous and scared loyal supporters of other candidates who wouldn’t vote for Obama anyway.

Think about this- The Clintons are not the only family in America. They've had their chance. Why are they being greedy?

Bill, Ann Arbor, Michigan   September 6th, 2007 2:46 pm ET

Why are people upset over Oprah using her celebrity and money to endorse Mr. Obama? Lets face it, all elections and politicians are bought and paid for. Beconming a Political appointees is generally "pay back" for support in one form or another. Given the way black people have been treated in this country ( I am a highly educated white man by the way)I can understand why Oprah would want someone representing her that looks like her. Obama inexperienced? Cheney and Rumsfeld are experienced serving in previous administrations. What a mess they've gotten us into in Iraq. Who was an executive at Haliburton? Boy we need some more "experienced politicians" like them. Who was the boob we had for Vice President to the 1st President Bush? Dan Q…..? Thank God the President never became incapacitated. Lastly, Oprah has done a lot with her money to benefit a lot of people of all ehtnic origins, all over the world. I doubt she's a "closed racist" She didn't get rich because she's stupid. I think she's done her homework on Mr. Obama.

Dale K. Bethel, Oh   September 6th, 2007 2:46 pm ET

I'm sick and tired of so much emphasis placed on the wrong areas of a candidate's qualifications.
I don't care about Obama's chameleon-like abilities to sound like a Harvard lawyer or a down-home preacher, I don't care about Hillary Clinton's cleavage or femininity. I don't care about Guliani's failed marriages. I don't care about race, gender, politics, or Oprah Winfrey.
I care about a candidate's ability to do the job – I care about the candidate's ability to put lesser considerations aside for the good of the country.
Black, white, male, female, Democrat, Republican – all of these things, and more, are secondary, and perhaps even inconsequential, to the President's responsibilities to the Constitution, the people, and the nation as a whole.
I think it would be interesting to get their take from that perspective.

Mary, Beaver, PA   September 6th, 2007 2:46 pm ET

xtina, I don't always agree with you, but you are dead-on with your comments here. I am tired of people thinking with their guts and their "feelings." It's about time we used, and young people were taught to use, their heads. A logical argument will best someone's warm fuzzy "feelings" any day. Oprah is the Queen of warm, fuzzy "feelings." She has made herself very rich exploiting them.

Eric, THE Republic of Texas   September 6th, 2007 2:45 pm ET

Great. So is Oprah officially entering the political arena?

Given her clout, money, connections and supposed influence, would it be too much to require her to officially register as a 527?

I don't see any reason why the most power and influential female mogul in media and entertainment should have a problem with that little requirement.

PD, Iowa City IA   September 6th, 2007 2:45 pm ET

Obama is not the first black presidential candidate; dump the racist ignorance and learn some recent political history.

Oprah is a sucker for hope, and that is what Obama is all about. If you respect Oprah's judgment, try to see if you share the values that are her basis for supporting Obama. If you do not respect Oprah's judgment, use your own.

I think Oprah is a fool. I support Obama based on my own judgment.

Brenda; Annapolis, MD   September 6th, 2007 2:42 pm ET

>>Obama is a nice enough guy, but what is his experience in makig budget decisions, lowering taxes, and lowering crime. He doesn't have ANY experience, other than legislating, which is NOT what a President does.

Posted By Cary – Lowell, IN : September 6, 2007 11:49 am >>

Oh my. How do you think taxes get lowers, crime rates drop, and budgets get set? The answer: through legislation… that's the political process…

Posted By Ron, TX : September 6, 2007 12:03 pm

Last I checked Ron, TX–the position of president is within the EXECUTIVE Branch…not the LEGISLATIVE. The president excutes the laws, not makes them. Sure the president can veto, but the legislative branch can override it. That's why they call it the system of checks and balances.

Stephanie, Memphis Tennessee   September 6th, 2007 2:38 pm ET

WHATEVER! I could care less what Oprah thinks. She is a talk show host with money. That is it! I can only hope and pray that the voters will look at the candidates seriously…this is not like we are voting for Prom Queen & King. Oprah go back to recommending books for your book club, not individuals for President..this is WAY out of your league.

Ike. Manchester, NH   September 6th, 2007 2:36 pm ET

Experience in what, Herman? In the Senate with only 2 sponsored bills passed or as first lady with a messed up healthcare plan and myriads of scandals? Is that what you call experience? come on tell me something else.

I challenge anyone who claims to be supporting Hillary because of experience to explain why they're not supporting Bill Richardson, Joe Biden or Chris Dodd instead.

Ellen, San Francisco   September 6th, 2007 2:33 pm ET

Is Oprah doing a sour grape on Hillary because she did not want her to be her VP in the election? I think this country is not ready for a black president just yet. I think American voters would rather have a white female in the White House than vote for a black candidate. Just the facts of life, folks!

Ed Mares Rio Rancho, N.M.   September 6th, 2007 2:31 pm ET

Ophrah's backing of Obama does not, in my opion, make him any better of a candidiate. His recent statments regarding the mid-east and his ideas of attacking without congressional approval turned me against him being president.

Diamond. Bradenton, FL   September 6th, 2007 2:29 pm ET

First, to claim you would not vote Obama because he was endorsed by Oprah is a BIG FAT LIE.
The reverse is more likely to be true.

Second, Oprah is not seeking favors from Obama or repaying him for favors traded. Besides he's trailing Hillary in the polls and endorsing him seems like a risky thing to do. That's why Oprah's endorsement is more genuine.

That's why her endorsement is as good as a victory for Obama and people know it. If she had endorsed Hillary, this election would've been over.

monica, rochester NY   September 6th, 2007 2:29 pm ET

Those of you who've said "only uneducated" people watch or listen to Oprah, I guess you don't know the Gallup poll facts that show most educated women are supporting obama, and most uneducated women are supporting Hillary. So what does that tell you about Hillary?? In this country when a Black person supports another Black in politics or work or wherever, white people generally accuse them of doing it for race. How many Black presidents have white people ever supported. Before Obama, the answer in ZERO. How many Black senators have white people supported, considering Obama's only the 3rd in history. Only 1 Black governor etc. etc. So white people have no moral authority to accuse any black person of only supporting their own race, it doesn't even make any sense. I guess she was suppose to support Hillary to make you happy. Obama is great and inspiring and Oprah has always been attracted to greatness, it's not her fault we've never had anyone like that in recent memory to run for president.

Tim, Acworth, GA   September 6th, 2007 2:28 pm ET

I don't know why people try to conjoin Obama with Al Sharpton just because they are both black. Al Sharton doesn't even like Obama and is still harboring resentment because Obama didn't back him when ran for President. That's like saying if Rudy gets elected Jim Baker or Pat Robertson will have a direct line to the White House.

Jason Smith, Oneonta, NY   September 6th, 2007 2:25 pm ET

I lived and went to graduate school up the road from where Oprah grew up in Kosciusko, MS. It is dirt poor even today, and is totally forgotten by any politician, unless there is something personal at stake, such as when Trent Lott's house was damaged by Katrina, and then all of a sudden he cared about the home insurers pulling out of the state. There are no opportunities unless they need someone to work in the new casinos in Tunica, or the new Nissan plant in Canton.

I dont watch many talk shows but I admire Oprah's determination in getting out of that place. As such, she is very outspoken and adamant in her beliefs. I, like many Americans, questioned why she opened her school in Africa and not in the U.S. and then thought about how much money is wasted in schools in this country, and how no schoolchildren I have worked with in this country have ever appreciated all the efforts and resources to educate them…In the South, we had backwards policies such as forced integration and redistricting which only forced my family to be uprooted several times, and changing schools, for some totally ineffective policy just for political gains by changing the voting districts.

The increasingly mind-numbing bureaucracy, faith-based mumbo jumbo, "No child left behind" idiacy, and increasing burdens placed upon teachers in order to "teach to the test" instead of really educating children is putting us further down the wrong road…I think Obama is the only truly independent candidate that is not beholden to special interests. Other candidates' "experience" has only distanced themselves from the American public on health care, education, etc. and led us into a protracted endless war to establish ever-more permanent bases overseas, first in Iraq, then Iran, and finally Syria. No Republican candidate except Ron Paul will get us out of the quagmire, and the Republican establishment won't let him get any airtime, since he is not following along party lines.

Therefore, Oprah's endorsement was well thought-out and, since her reputation is at stake, also a revealing statement that Oprah thought Obama has a real chance of his voice resonating with the American people…

IrishAmericanForObama, Cincinnati, OH   September 6th, 2007 2:23 pm ET

When I see the disingenuously negative comments about Oprah's involvement in the Obama campaign, IT MAKES ME HAPPY! I know it has struck a nerve and people are scared to death. It means people recognise the power of God, I meant Oprah.

The people making these negative comments would never vote for Obama even if God himself endorsed him.

But the truth is, while these crazy folks are ranting in the blogosphere, the people whom Oprah will influence to vote for Barack are on their couch watching her show. They’re not reading all those comments.

Mikey, Brooklyn, NY   September 6th, 2007 2:22 pm ET

To those people spouting this "racism" crap:

Oprah jumped on board because Obama is black? Really? She told you this? Interesting. Because in my entire life I've never felt passionately about a candidate. That is, until I heard Obama speak, time after time, and realized -this- is a man who deserves to be President. And who I will urge everyone I know to pay attention to.

Any chance you might entertain the thought that Oprah feels the same way?

Tim, Acworth, GA   September 6th, 2007 2:22 pm ET

If she can get people to look at him closer and see what he stands for then go for it. People are ruling him out before they even listen to his message which is a shame and would rather vote for Rudy or Hilary to continue the same type of politics we've seen for the last 16 years!!!

Oprah is a billionaire who doesn't have to care. But she does. What difference will it make to her who's president? She will be okay regardless of who wins this election. If I were a billionaire I'm not so sure I would care based on the stupidity I'm reading on this blog.

Oprah is not doing it for money. She is not doing it for power. She's doing it because she believes it's the right thing to do. God bless her for that.

I'm so grateful that Oprah has stepped up to do what she thinks is in the best interest of our country and its citizens. She doesn't have to speak out. She doesn't have to subject herself to the criticism and racism I've read on this blog. And yet, she's willing to do it because she loves her country.

Many of you should be ashamed of yourselves for the ugly things you're saying about a loving and caring fellow citizen.

You don't hear too many billionaires out there advocating for average Americans like you and me. Most of them are too busy trying to figure out how to rip us off through some tax loophole. Be grateful this billionaire cares. Be thankful.

First I want to say I love Oprah – she’s an amazing individual with an amazing life story. I respect her and admire her courage and her ability to make positive change. However – Oprah – Girlfriend – you know and I know Senator Obama is not ready to be President. I think he’s on the right path – but he is lacking some very important credentials. What he needs to do the job and the job well can’t be learned as you go. He has to be ready and he needs to get a little more experience under his belt. Now Oprah you wouldn’t the new guy at the Mercedes dealership working on your Benz when you take it in because the engine light is on – oh no you want the best and most experience mechanic they have. Obama for 2016 you have my vote – but for now I need to choose the more experience mechanic who just happens to be a woman.

I like Oprah and watch her show as often as I can. I also like Senator Obama and voted for him when he ran for U.S. Senate; however, I believe at this time in our lives what our country needs is someone who can take charge on day one without learning on the job, which is why I'm voting for Senator Hillary Clinton. No offense to either Oprah or Barack, but experience does make a difference to me. We've already seen what the effects of lack of experience has done to this country.

Aunty   September 6th, 2007 2:06 pm ET

Yea But is Oprah Black Enough?

Justine   September 6th, 2007 2:05 pm ET

I think Oprah is one of the most influential figures in entertainment but Obama had my vote prior to this huge endosement.
It was just reassuring to hear Oprah speak so highly of Barack even before he was ever involved in politics. It was reassuring in knowing that Barack is not merely smiling for the camera. This man is actually who he said he is!!!

Nancy Keosathit - Philadelphia, PA   September 6th, 2007 2:05 pm ET

Oprah viewers ARE uneducated boobs who twisting and distorting the process simply because Oprah – who is an unqualified authority on virtually every topic (except how to profit as an entertainment/media mogul), says to go vote for Obama.

I don't care if she backed Obama because he's black, or a Democrat, or because he dresses or sounds so nice. It's just another uninformed opinion that she spews to her all-too-eager dummy audience that they will inevitably lap up and obey. The candidate could've been Hillary or Fred Thompson – just as worthless as her book club endorsements or anti-beef propaganda.

The ReadyWriter   September 6th, 2007 2:05 pm ET

Oprah doesn't persuade my vote at all but I'm still supporting OBAMA for change! The Clinton's are just down right greedy, they've had their chance.

andrew s rostolder hillsdale nj   September 6th, 2007 2:03 pm ET

oprah, you really blew it this time. it looks like you started a racial thing. you have never endorsed any one before.when you do come out for someone, the guy just happens to be black, hmmmmmmm. if obama is smart enough to be president he will distance himself from you and this situation.

Walt, Belton, TX   September 6th, 2007 1:58 pm ET

If Oprah's endorsing Obama, then she's made my selection that much easier. If I can't stand her, I obviously can't support him.

Mia, Stafford, VA   September 6th, 2007 1:54 pm ET

People get a GRIP. Oprah just like you and me can endorse anyone she wants. The difference is, her endorsement is heard world wide, and our endorsement is among our friends, family and peers.

Stop being so darn judgemental. If she wants to use her star status that's her choice, and it is each individual person's choice to vote for whom they please!

Dee Tee Gee Arlington, TX   September 6th, 2007 1:51 pm ET

Oprah is about to learn the same lesson that O.J. Simpson & Michael Vick learned. The lesson is that the white people are about to remind Oprah that despite how rich, famous & powerful she is, she's still black, & when push comes to shove, she will get treated as such & if she hooks her truck to the Obama train, the shoving will begin. These are the same white people who would swear to God they aren't racist. But what other problem would they have with Oprah backing Obama? Had she announced she was backing Hillary, white people would be happy & the black folks would be mad at her. But let's be real. Oprah is where she is because of the following she has with white women, and it sounds as if these women don't want a black president. Moral of this story; Never forget you're black in America. It's very painful when white people remind you of that. They put her on that pedestal & they would love to knock her off of it.

N. Wyatt Tennessee   September 6th, 2007 1:43 pm ET

Who cares who Oprah endorses. It won't influence who I vote for. I resent the comment that all people watching her are uneducated. I am a woman who is educated, has a nursing degree and I do watch Oprah at times. She has shows I find interesting at times. Like Global Warming and healthcare issues. I usually watch depending on the subject. I don't know how I'm voting yet. It won't be based on anyone else's vote.It will soley depend on the illegal immigration that is hurting us in healthcare and economy wise and on the global warming issues we need to address. So far I haven't found any canidate that I am sure on. I don't care about what party they are from just about the issues.

Bonnie O.   September 6th, 2007 1:40 pm ET

Barack Obama will have my vote regardless of who endorses him. I don't think it's Oprah's intention to sway the vote towards Obama but simply to use her visibility to let him put forth his views. He can make a difference in this country. I support Oprah's decision.

Wendy from Florida   September 6th, 2007 1:39 pm ET

The rest of the world thinks we Americans are very superficial. Otherwise, we won't vote to have our current president in power. Since when inexperience became a virtue in this country? If someone is inexperienced, he/she can say I have a new approach. I am trying to bring change to your company or organization! Sound naïve? This is exactly what we are doing for selecting the most important person—the president of our country!

The reason Obama repeatedly brag about his opposition of war in Iraq long time ago (five years is a long time, considering the longest time a president can serve is only eight years) is because he has nothing else to talk about!! Does he have any accomplishment to talk about? Did he introduce any bills in the US senate (State senate does not qualify him as the leader of the United State of America) that have been past? Has he been a leader in any legislation in the congress?
He is already the least experienced and least knowledgeable among all running. After eight years of an administration that does not know anything about policy, 2008 will be the last chance for US to correct its course if it has any hope to be among the top five strongest countries in the world in next decade. Electing another inexperienced person like Obama, US will have no chance to comeback later.

Obama is an inspirational speaker but has zero qualification as our leader. If we really vote such a man into white house, it really tells how low our national intelligence is after eight years of a dumbest president we have ever elected.

Opera has been telling people she supports women but forgets about it once someone in her own skin comes along. Now I have to choose between believing that either Opera is a racists or that she is really dump when it comes to important issues. She has mouth to talk but no brain to think.

Keith, Chicago   September 6th, 2007 1:38 pm ET

It scares me as too how many racist and ignorant people are out there.

Many people on here are questioning Oprah for endorsing Obama because they are both black…and some are even going as far as accusing her of being racist. I guess that means that any time a white person endorses a white candidate, that they are racist too?

Also, many people are claiming that Obama is the first black candidate for president…ever hear of Jesse Jackson, Alan Keyes, Al Sharpton, Carol Mosley-Braun? Oprah never endorsed any of those candidates.

To anyone with even a modicum of intelligence, they would realize that Oprah has endorsed Obama because they have a close relationship from working together for many years in the Chicago community…and that she is very well aware of his extraordinary intelligence (went to Columbia and Harvard law), his extremely unselfish and caring nature (passed up many ridiculously high-paying jobs in NYC to become a civil-rights lawyer in Chicago for MUCH lower pay), his committment to helping others, and his enormous degree of integrity.

Not to mention, he has by far the best ideas of any presidential candidate…he has the best plan for universal healthcare (and the best strategy for getting it passed), his diplomatic approach to foreign policy is a huge improvement over the current administration or Clinton's proposed policies, his plans to reduce the power that special interests hold in Washington by making a lot of things much more transparent, and his sound judgment in issues such as Iraq – where he voiced his opposition to the war from the onset, whereas Clinton, Edwards, and almost every other candidate gave Bush a blank check to start the war.

Kaja Virginia Beach, VA   September 6th, 2007 1:34 pm ET

I have not seen anyone in media who has accuratly represented the hope promise and change I watched Obama bring to Chicago's inner city before his political career. I hope the endorsement from Oprah and the length of time she has known him will help counter balance the unprofessional slights (Osama Obama, Blacks will vote for Clinton, Is Obama black enough) that have frustrated me as a young black woman. He is a great canidate he deserves great endorsements.

Looking for Change, Chicago, IL   September 6th, 2007 1:34 pm ET

Everyone is talking about Obama's "lack of expieriece", look what happened when people voted for candidates with "experience" in 2001, and 2005? Maybe "lack of experience" will do this country some good!

Shawnie - Grants Pass, OR   September 6th, 2007 1:31 pm ET

I hope Oprah can stand the embarrassment of going down with the ship.

Tapera Bandera, Toronto   September 6th, 2007 1:26 pm ET

I don't remember hearing that Oprah endorsed Al Sharpton. I believe that she has seen the greatness of Obama. Obama is the Nelson Mandela of America. People should listen to the candidates before making up their minds. I hope America won't make the same mistake again as when they voted for Bush. You have to make peace with the world and stop living in fear. I believe that Obama will be able to achieve this. Gone are those times when people had to rule by fear.

I have never been interested in politics before and have never trusted politicians but I give a considerable amount of trust to Obama.

Julius   September 6th, 2007 1:25 pm ET

It's quite disburbing to realize how deeply rooted some people here are divisive in thier assertions. Why should there be a big deal if Oprah is supporting and endorsing Obama? Those of you that said Oprah has been bias and untrue to herself for not endorsing any politican until now still havent gotten it yet! Its not about Black or White thing, its about the difference, about the needed change in the ways politics has been conducted in washington, about the generation that needs new perceptions and ideas that will shore off and reinstate american values in the New World.
Look, majority of those supporting Obama have never been interested in the politics, but they strongly believe in this guy called Obama now! Oprah just naturally respond to the moment that create change like every other Americans.
Again why should she be receiving unjust comments from people because she is supporting Obama who happens to be an african-american? Will it have been okay if she endorsed Hillary because she is a WHITE woman? Is being a white celebrate like Speilberg to endorse Hillary and becomes a terribe mistake if Oprah endorses Obama?
You seem to forget that when Quiency Jones, an african-american, endorsed Hillary clinton among many other blacks, no one thinks it is bad or being racism to receive such endorsement from a prominent black like Jones?
Answer those questions justly in your mind and truly, you will realize deeply how unjust those speaking ill of Oprah have been!

lavelle,rochester,ny   September 6th, 2007 1:24 pm ET

I don’t know if bill Clinton is running for president or Hillary. It’s funny as to when Obama gets a lil star power. Those who weren’t going to vote for him anyway look at this move as a mistake? Please why do you think so many people look to Oprah for anything? People hate it when you’re on top and Oprah has been on top for such a long time. She is a power house and a force to be reckoned with. Hell Bill Clinton would love to have Oprah's endorsement I mean Hillary.

Keith, Chicago   September 6th, 2007 1:23 pm ET

Xtina – Clinton, Edwards, McCain, Thompson, Biden, Dodd, and most other candidates don't have any executive experience either. Many presidents never had any executive experience before becoming president, including Lincoln and JFK. So please explain to me who you plan to vote for and also explain to me why you need to have executive experience to become a good president. Bush had executive experience – that turned out really well…

Taniger NY   September 6th, 2007 1:23 pm ET

With Oprah solidly behind Obama, Hillary can kiss her bid for the presidency goodbye. For good or bad, Oprah will marshall so much support for Obama that Hillary will be forced to accept the VP position or go home.

Micahel Guinn, Port Hueneme,CA   September 6th, 2007 1:22 pm ET

Oprah has championed many worth-while causes. To me, there is none more important than seeing Barack Obama in the Oval Office. She came out with her support early-on. I worked for Bill Clinton's election both times- and I'm proud of that- but Barack is the one to bring us back as ONE NATION!

Hey Michelle, she stands by skin color. That's what she's truly all about. Her benefit she did for all her friends…..all black women. Oprah is only about skin color and nothing else. She only tolerates the white women cause they're the ones making her rich.

JP, Minneapolis, MN   September 6th, 2007 1:21 pm ET

I'm afraid if Obama is elected the likes of Al Sharpton would have a direct line to the white house, this would be a complete circus.

I was leaning toward Obama but changed my mind after the Don Imus and Duke La crosse incidents, We need someone with experience. This could backfire on Oprah and fans could turn on her.

AB, Seattle, WA   September 6th, 2007 1:20 pm ET

Why are people so upset over Oprah endorsing Obama? No one says a word when a workers union endorses Edwards or someone else endorses someone else?
She just 'endorsed' Obama like many other celebrities endorsing other candidates. What's so special about this news?

Terrance D. Taylor Sacramento, California   September 6th, 2007 1:18 pm ET

Honestly I think it is awesome that Oprah is standing up and stepping out to help endorse Obama campagin. Yes I agree Obama may not have all the skills he need but who does these days. Hillary doesnt but what gets her out of trouble is that she has her husband to fall back on. And Obama now have Oprah and others supporters that are quietly helping. Yes America needs a change in a major way and I do believe strongly that racism is still a major issue as well as health care senior citizens and jobs. If your think i'm lying ust read some of these comments what people had to say. So these two power house front runners for the presdiency still have alot to learn from others as well as each other. I don't think in a million and one years that this will hurt Oprah in any way because if she can support one candidate for presidant she can support others don't think for once that other political leaders aren't watching this and saying if she can do for him maybe she can do it for me. A racist no Oprah helps out all races and means it from her heart and I have to be honest I don't watch Oprah but when I do catch a show are two are hear about what she has done for someone are some country I have to be like Ebert and Ropert two thumbs up! So I say Oprah Stay Strong And God Bless And Suppoort who you feel will be a great Presidant because I know I will.

Oprah has shown over and over she is prejudiced against anyone that is not Black. She is only backing Obama not because he is the better candidate, has better experience, or is a better person in general, she is only backing him because he is black. She has never backed a presidential candidate before because they were always white and she is for the blacks.

Go Barack go!!!

Kathryn Irby - Metairie, LA   September 6th, 2007 1:13 pm ET

Just because Oprah may be a supporter of Obama's doesn't mean that he will become the next President of the United States. He doesn't have enough experience to be elected as President, whereas Hillary Rodham Clinton does. Furthermore, Clinton will become the next and First Female President of the United States. Suck it up, Oprah! You won't have your way this time, money or no money!

If people in this country are dumb enough to let their votes be swayed by who Oprah or any other celebrity (who don't live in the real world) supports then we should just let George stay another four years and not even bother having an election! Funny that Oprah never came out and supported any other presidential candidate until now that there is a african-american on the ballad. I'm surprised she hasn't run for president herself so she can be the first african american and first woman president! Oh boy, wouldn't that just make the front page of "O" magazine!

aj, birmingham, mi   September 6th, 2007 1:12 pm ET

This is about adding to oprah's glory! Have you seen her show lately? She had that Broadway star on who says Oprah is the reason she followed her dreams to Broadway; so Oprah doesn't have self-esteem, she has to have people on giving testimonials to how GREAT SHE IS! If you're truly great you're also humble and don't need people stroking you ON YOUR OWN SHOW!

Terrence, Albany NY   September 6th, 2007 1:12 pm ET

Obama fan? yes, Oprah fan? heck no. Do I think her backing Obama is good for his campaign? really couldn't hurt…if you end up not supporting him now with Oprah on board, chances are you weren't much of a supporter to begin with…and if you were somewhat ambivilent about him before and happen to be part of Oprah's audience, well like I said, couldn't hurt.

I hope that on this people do what they are supposed to do and think for themselves.

Atlanta, Georgia   September 6th, 2007 1:04 pm ET

Oprah is a joke! Obama running the country will be a joke! Anyone who thinks Obama can make a difference is a joke! Oprah will eventually come down. Play your cards elsewhere Oprah. No one buys anything unless they want to. Oprah doesn't give anything away. It is clearly avertisement from sponsors who basically pay (by giving their products away) to be on her show. For God sake, if anyone remotely thinks that Oprah gives anything away, think twice. Lets start revealing all the dirty little secrets about Oprah, and she'll stop endorsing Obama. Why? She always wants to look good in the public eye. This would definately make her hide! Oprah supports Gayle and that girl never kept her show. She endorsed the book "million little pieces" and had to recant her endorsement as it was very embarrasing. Also, funny thing she has nothing to do with Tom Cruise. Just a laughing and carrying away when he appeared on the show acting foolish. Oh and let me remind you about her close "friend" Jennifer Anniston. does she ever really talk about her anymore? The woman is fake and discusting. I hope her dad publishes the book. "My father and I soeak daily" yeah rightm or you (Oprah) would have known he was writing a book. I hope her family memebers gets paid a lot more to reveal her dirty little secrets!

Rich   September 6th, 2007 1:04 pm ET

If this demigod Winfrey weants to be president she should run herself. Her overblown ego and "Star Power" has no business in American politics… Let her use her considerable assets where they will do real good and not just feed her lust for power and adoration… let her feed people in third-world countries. Bill Gates has donated more money than Oprah will ever be worth without fanfare or press release… neither does he use his much greater wealth and power to influence the American political process.

Oprah needs to get some class… ASAP.

Adriana Illinois   September 6th, 2007 1:04 pm ET

jinnifer, lakewood, ohio   September 6th, 2007 1:01 pm ET

what i believe to be absurd over this whole subject is that everyone seems to be arguing over whether oprah should/not endorse and whether anyone should/not vote obama because of this.
why can't americans get over celebrity status and wealth? that is what has put this country in these dire straits. if americans would stand up and argue about the true issues [education and taxes] we wouldn't have to worry about who oprah is and what she does.
If people really cared about who their president is we would have a higher voter turnout and more involvement in the process. Instead, the American media plays up stories like this and people spend their time arguing over the rights/wrongs of who someone endorses.
It is time for America to stand up for themselves. But they are too busy with their fantasy football drafts, who is going to win survivor, and what is on oprah!
GET A LIFE!!

Johnny Chicago   September 6th, 2007 12:58 pm ET

Sorry folks, bottom line here is that Oprah is the most successful Minority/Woman in the world. I would challenge anyone to find a more inspirational and powerful public figure. This does not mean that she will jam Washington rhetoric down anyones throat to promote Obama rather she will merely provide the best possible forums for the Candidate to speak and be discovered in. Obama will not have to do much once the right people in the right places get a chance to hear the man. He is brilliant, and is exactly what this country needs in this ultimate time of desperation. Our country is on the brink of ruin. 4, 8, 12, 16 years more of the same two families running this country not only sounds like a monarcy or dynasty, but it also sounds like a broken Democracy. Please people, I emplore you to take a chance.

Obama 08

Terri   September 6th, 2007 12:57 pm ET

People need to really wake up here. You are being influenced by EVERYONE. The media has been force feeding you their chosen candidates for decades! Politicians have done it … forever. At least the usual ones.

Oprah is a citizen also. If she chooses to endorse a candidate, she has as much right as anyone.

If anyone allows anyone at all to influence their vote, without doing their own thorough investigation about who these candidates are and what they stand for, then stop blaming celebrities and media and everyone else for your failure to make an informed decision.

I could care less who Oprah endorses. I could care less who the media has coronated. I am my own person, and so are you. Stop listening to second-hand information, and political spin jobs. You found your way here, you can find your way to a wealth of information on who the candidates are and what they stand for.

I support Barack Obama because I've done my homework. I keep myself informed on all the candidates. So my choice is clear.

You have the ability and responsibility to think for yourself. There is a lot of misinformation and political spin to wade through to get it, but it's there.

KeepinItStraight, Atlanta, GA   September 6th, 2007 12:53 pm ET

Some of you all are funny. I am not an Oprahist (although I give her credit for what she has done for others) but let’s be real:
• There is no reliable source stating she will serve as an Obama spokesperson.
• Celebrities backing candidates is nothing new people. It’s just being sensationalized by the media which in turn forces CNN and others of its caliber to cover such superficial stuff to keep up with those who have no problem feeding it’s audience nonsensical news that affects no one. When was the last time you bumped up your credit score by knowing ________________(fill in blank with whatever hollywood crap the media is sensationalizing this afternoon)?
• To say Oprah should lay low means one believes she single-handedly “crushed” the beef industry. It was learning how beef stays in your system for days while festering that made people question their diet choices (along with this little thing called Mad Cow- duh!).
• The “he needs more experience” excuse is just that – an excuse. I’m not advocating that we elect a sophomore Poli Sci major for prez, but what we have seen for some time now does not bode well for the “I have experience” chant (I must say I kinda like the “shoot from the hip” Uncle Gravel but I know he won’t win).

Who I will vote for is still up in the air but I WILL VOTE – and my ballot will be cast for the best candidate who speaks to those issues which are relevant in my opinion – not for the one who appeared on “Entertainment Tonight”.

In response to LINDA KENNEDY from KNOXVILLE, TN, I am not sure how you could say that Oprah has decided to jump on the Obama bandwagon because he is black. Hmmm….If she was being so "racial", then wouldn't she have helped Al Sharpton considering he ran for the democratic nomination about 3-4 times. OR wouldn't she have helped Jesse Jackson…..Hmmmm…..Your reasoning seems to be lacking factual evidence. And I'm not sure but….I do believe that Barack Obama is bi-racial soooooo…Hmmm…Why can't you just believe that Oprah actually supports Obama because she feels that he's the best candidate??? Wouldn't that make since?

Furthermore, is America really ready to change? I mean….Caucasian female president or Biracial Male President? hmmmm……It's hard for me to believe that as a country we will actually choose a minority (considering that women are considered a minority and so are African-Americans or biracial people)!

People who are prone to left wing thinking make their decisions based on "emotion" and "feelings". That's why there's so much anger and sensitivity in the Democratic party. they must "love" their politicians, in turn their politicians usually have fractured histories that make them seek out the love of voters.

Conservatives may like their candidates, but it's more a business decision- who is going to protect our country from enemies, who is going to lower taxes, etc. It's like someone here wrote, look at it as a job interview; credentials more important than likeability.

Michael James - Illinois   September 6th, 2007 12:51 pm ET

For what it's worth, I think having Oprah help Barack is a positive development for him.

A lot of people like Oprah and respect her opinions. A lot of rich and powerful people have a high opinion of themselves and Oprah is no different in that regard. If you are a person who doesn't like Oprah for whatever reason(s), why do you care what she does with her time and whatever political capital she may be able to amass on behalf of her chosen candidate?

There was an interesting story I saw recently that illustrated how George W. Bush received a big bounce after he appeared on Oprah's show and spoke about his faith and love for his wife, etc. If just having the platform of Oprah's show did that for Dubya, I don't see how having that and more for Barack in this election is a negative for Barack.

All you need to do is look at how Oprah's book club can instantly turn a book into a bestseller to know that Oprah's backing can make a big difference.

The bottom line is that, like many of us, Oprah sees great things in Obama and, for the first time, is getting active in supporting a candidate. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Caroline Mass.   September 6th, 2007 12:49 pm ET

Oprah didn't even know where to put the gasoline nozzle in her car when she filled her tank up with gas last summer on her "road trip" with Gail. Why on earth should her supporting Barack Obama sway me to do the same?

Anonymous   September 6th, 2007 12:49 pm ET

she should run herself.

I won't honor Oprahs wishes. She is a Phony rich woman. She is not GOD. Does she stand beside Woopy, and like animals being tortured?

CitizenJ   September 6th, 2007 12:47 pm ET

Why are people so obsessed with this? Hillary is a nobody without Bill. She would just be another semi-anonymous Senator if Bill were never president. Hell, she may never have been elected Senator if it weren't for him. And she continues to use HIS presidency as evidence of HER experience.

What's the difference? Lets focus on what the actual candidates say instead of worrying about who is supporting who.

Vince S, Edison, NJ   September 6th, 2007 12:47 pm ET

I sincerely hope that the only reason Oprah has given Obama her first public endorsement is that he is the first candidate to truly inspire her; having said that, I do not feel that her endorsement will have much affect on voters. While millions love and respect Oprah, I think her audience may be a little insulted by her sudden foray into politics. Several women I have talked to that religiously watch her show, by the books she recommends, and purchase products she has endorsed said they are put off by her endorsement of Obama. Is it that a person's vote is too personal? Is it that we do not want our entertainers professing their political views? I liken it to the feeling one gets at a concert when the singer/entertainer starts bashing Bush. I dislike Bush greatly and even I am insulted by such actions. I paid to watch you sing, not comment on political issues.

Erika - Portland, Maine   September 6th, 2007 12:47 pm ET

"People buy books WHEN SHE TELLS THEM TO. They will watch her shows, and buy her magazines WHEN SHE ASKS THEM TO." Hmmm. No offense to Oprah viewers, but I really hope you folks have minds of your own when it comes to something as important as presidential politics. What has become of this country's voting process when the whole deal can be (significantly?) influenced by one celebrity's endorsement? I can hear it now – "I'm voting for Obama because Oprah likes him!!!" Hot topics and sensitive national issues be damned. Good grief.

Joe Indianapolis IN   September 6th, 2007 12:46 pm ET

I'm neither a racist or a bigot, but regarding Hillary and Obama's experience and ability to run the country:

not THAT woman
not THAT African American

TC Minneapolis MN   September 6th, 2007 12:45 pm ET

Wow, Oprah is showing her racism. I would be my life savings she has gotten this involved with any other presidential candidate. Why him?

Shannon, New Orleans, LA   September 6th, 2007 12:44 pm ET

All of these entries just goes to show you where our country stands on the race issue. When a black woman, of power and Oprah is just that, decides to support a black man of power, being Barak Obama, for whatever reason, it's all of a sudden an issue. Oprah Winfrey is not merely an entertainer, she is an educated, well respected, buisness savvy, influential woman and she has every right to voice her support or non support of whomever she chooses. Many high profile celebrities over the years have openly supported political candidates, but now all of sudden it's a problem because Oprah (who happens to be African American) is supporting another African American. She has a voice and a venue to express her support and she has every right to do so.

And for the person who made the comment "she is JUST an entertainer," what does that mean? Entertainers are not educated, they don't have opinion, they are unable to make an educated decision? The sad part about this country is that MOST Americans have no clue what is going on in America or the world at large. The media influences people's decisions everyday. The fact that over the last decade or so, politicians think it is ok to slander/mud sling negative things about their opponents without EVER ONCE addressing how they intend to improve the current state of affairs, goes to show that we as a people of this "great" nation have failed to remind those that are public servents to us that we hold them to a higher standard! We hold no one accountable for anything anymore. But we all can come out and shout and protest because OPRAH WINFREY decided to be public about supporting Barak Obama.

It's a sad state of current affairs!

kimberly Grand Rapids, Michigan   September 6th, 2007 12:44 pm ET

Oprah wouldn't sway my thinking toward any one candidate. She hasn't taken a role in any past campaigns (atleast not openly),until Obama. This only leads me to think her views are biased. I like Oprah, but, it won't change my vote.

As an Independent, I view Clinton as the stronger, experienced, and positive ideas candidate. Obama is a strong Vice Presidential Candidate. The Republican tar and feather machine has taken many dumps on Hillary and she is still standing strong. She is better suited to deflect the arrows of hate that Republicans will be relentless in aiming toward any Democrat, no matter how effective or positive the candidate could be for our country.

Maria Mitchell, Georgia   September 6th, 2007 12:42 pm ET

Do not think for one minute just because Oprah Winfrey is backing Barack Obama that I will be running to the polls and voting for Mr. Obama. Yes! Oprah has repeatedly shown her name can sell nearly anything. However, my vote is not for sell.

Dan, Groveland, Il   September 6th, 2007 12:40 pm ET

T Graves   September 6th, 2007 12:40 pm ET

I would like to respond to the comment that calls those of us who watch Oprah "below intelligence". I am college educated and own a large business that I am sure makes an impact on your life. I watch Oprah and donate to her charities. I endorse whom I choose for President, based on what I feel our country needs, not what any celebrity tells me I should do. What sets our country apart is the fact that I can watch what I want on TV, worship where and whom I want, speak when I want and vote for whomever I choose. I can home school my children or send them for free public education. I may not agree with the war in Iraq but I support the men and woman who are there! Obviously some people wanted the same things this country offered, because I look at the names on this blog it is easy to see that allot of ancestors, just like my husbands came to this country looking for the same freedoms.
So if Oprah chooses to support Obama, good for her, but in this country at least we have the freedom to choose! So who cares who she votes for, lets focus on the important issues, like what he has in store to fix this country, not what their having for dinner at Oprah’s house.

CJ, Wichita KS   September 6th, 2007 12:39 pm ET

What does it say about this country when a celeberity endorserment can have so much weight that it will give a presidential canidate a boost in the election process? Are we such lemmings that we would follow the opinions of a celeberity over making an informed decision of our own. Are we really that lazy or apathetic? SHAME ON US!!!!!

Stephannie Lewis, Minneapolis, MN   September 6th, 2007 12:39 pm ET

For all those who are bent on believing that Oprah has political ambitions, why didn't she answer "the call" to make a run for the White House when there was a very public grassroots campaign last year? Why did Oprah's attorneys file an injunction to stop the campaign from gaining momentum, when she could have easily accepted the unofficial nomination and run?

It is clear that Oprah has absolutley no future sights set on the White House, aside from attending the inaugural ball. She is simply supporting someone that shares her values and vision for America. Isn't that the criteria most Americans use when we cast our vote?

Mike, Milwaukee, WI   September 6th, 2007 12:38 pm ET

Some of you people write the stupidest things. Frist of all how can Oprah be a closet racist if more than 70% of her audience are white women? Secondly, how would an endorsement hurt her buisness? It wouldn;t matter if the woman was endorsing Mike Gravel. She would still be always and forever, on top!

Sharon, Baltimore, MD   September 6th, 2007 12:38 pm ET

I support Oprah's right as an American citizen to support the candidate of her choice. She is a kind hearted humanitarian supporting another kind hearted humanitarian. I give the American public the credit they are due when I say they will choose the candidate that they feel best represents their interests.

TRAVIS Gloucester City, NJ   September 6th, 2007 12:36 pm ET

I think that Opera's whole motivation is racial. Opera has already speculated on herself running for president someday, and she would be the first Black Woman as President. So of course she would back either Clinton or Obama so he can be the first Black to pave her way to the "White House" If Obama wasn't Black, Opera would be supporting Clinton for the same reason to help pave her way to the White House. I'm going to now start my campaign against the FAT Talk Show Host, it's time we bring her off her high horse.
TRAVIS!

It's very simple. Oprah is not trying to buy this election, it's imposible any ways. Oprah is really trying to let us get to know Obama a little better. She simply feels that he is the right person for the job. That's all. If I were in her place, I'd do the same thing. Obama '08

I honestly don't see one, unless we passed a law inbetween then. I'm sure there is, but I honestly have no idea what it is. Someone elighten me on the subject.

Otherwise, I have no problem with anyone entering this country for the purpose of having a better life.

Anyone who would support Hillary has there head in the sand anyways. The Clintons have been in Washington for way too long and we were lucky enough to get through his 8 years relatively unscathed, besides our militay which was completely underfunded, at the expense of a "balanced budget." Hillary chooses sides of an issue based on the political climate just like Bill did and is still doing…its actually incredible to think they are still even in the political arena and not laughed and ridiculed out of the picture!! They are both gutless, spineless cowards who will achieve power by any means necessary. Thank God we have Barack to hopefully save the Democrats, but the Clintons are at it again, and despite the speechs, debates, and town meetings I have watched, which have all proven to discredit the Hillary's stances and uplifted Obama's position as the next obvious choice for our President- it seems as if the media and all political analysts have granted Hillary the candidacy already. There cant be that many sheep in this country, can there? …maybe Oprah will help awaken the Clinton hypnosis this country seems to be under

Americans possess a grand passion. And I think we see evidence of that even here, in this small forum.

Oprah is, of course, entitled to endorse whomever she wishes.

I, for one, am interested to see what a youthful and intelligent person can do for this country.

We signed on for eight years of a quintessential "establishment and experience" administration.

I'm not impressed. Let's get some fresh ideas in Washington. Let's give Barack a shot.

To Karen in Harrisburg, Pa.

I think you have lost your mind…there has never been a president of color. I guess you want minorities to continue to elect white men only.

Guess what some day that is going to change because the population is changing and the minorities are becoming the morjority. Lets see if you can handle that..probably not.

Maybe that's why so many of you are hoping that you can live on the moon…

We as black people have had to endure injustice for centuries and now there is a chance for a black man to become president and as usual you people show your racist ways everytime.

Nothing has changed but it will, with GODS help it will. And in the not so distant future, too.

I guess the administration we have now is what you want for the future. You all need to pray more!!!

Oprah has every right to support whom ever she wishes to. For those who will stop watching her program, they were never true fans anyway.

Do you think this will hurt her, think again. Oprah probably has business ties that you will never, ever know about.

To Rodriquez in TX, so you are hoping Oprah is gay, well what are you? GOD will judge us all not you or Me.

People get over this idiotic manic obsession you have with a black woman supporting a black man for president. White people have been sticking with whites for centuries even when they knew it was wrong.

Read your history, listen to stories your ancestors have passed down.

Well I gotta go…

OBAMA in 08!!!

Oprah will have little to no effect on this election. She's an entertainer, not a political expert, or someone America should turn to when deciding upon such a critical decision. Can she review books and offer suggestions, yes. Is she a wonderful philanthropist, yes. Do I trust a billonaire to have a real view of the middle class and poor of this country, no. Would I turn to her for judgement on terrorism and war, absolutely not.

Dan, Groveland, Il   September 6th, 2007 12:23 pm ET

Oprah is out to get the black votes and women votes. That's O.K.! I'm a white male and Barack Obama has my vote already! Clinton would have gotten my vote but her pro illegal immigrant stance turned me off completely!

RuthieM   September 6th, 2007 12:18 pm ET

Again, the media is creating conflict here where there should be none, for there should only be CHEERS! Instead of treating this as simply another great Obama endorsement in the bank, which it is, it's all being tangled into 'will Oprah's endorsement get Obama to the white house"? She never said it would and neither has he. IT'S AN ENDORSEMENT. Why wasn't the same questioning and prodding asked about and said for all the endorsements Clinton got — 'But will that endorsement get Hillary to the white house?' And the recent union endorsements Edwards got: 'But will the steel union's endorsement get Edwards to the white house?' All those endorsements were immediately just touted as fantastic boosting endorsements to their campaigns, and in all the major news for an entire week after. No negatives there. Yet, why is it when Obama gets an endorsement either it is in so small print SOMEWHERE when one finally stumbles upon it, possibly, and it is turned into a negative, and/or a fight between him and Hillary Clinton, as the news spins it.
I'm congratulating Obama on another fantastic endorsement, which is what this is, and I so look forward to the many many more jumbo endorsements for Obama because he deserves every single one of 'em!!! Thanks Oprah, you've endorsed the best, the very best candidate!!!! Now, on to the next…

Louise - Dallas, Texas   September 6th, 2007 12:16 pm ET

Oprah, is popular, but generally, their money is what helps the politicians like Obama and she'll give plenty of that. He is going to run a close race but he'll not make it to the finish line. Many voters will think Oprah is putting her hopes in Obama because he's black. Not openingly, but just a fact.
Personally, I believe this young man, Obama might wait a few years along with getting more experience. I'm tired of having a Presidednt who is totally faking it as a President.

B. Brooklyn   September 6th, 2007 12:15 pm ET

To: Nicole, Chicago, IL (and others)…
This is not about endorment of a candidate. What is potentially going to happen here is she will actually campaign for him. This would be a huge mistake not only for her as an entertainer but for her as a business person.

Endorsments are great but we must remember these are entertainers NOT politicians.

R.Harper Memphis, Tn   September 6th, 2007 12:12 pm ET

Oprah backing Obama has nothing to do with the fact that the he is black. And If that statement was true then are you saying that the only reason a white supporter of one of the white canidates, supporting them because they have the same skin color. It can't be because they truely believe in this person and believe they will do what they claim they will do if eleceted to office. I see we still live in a world of racial ingnorance and lack of common sense.

George, Queen Creek Arizona   September 6th, 2007 12:10 pm ET

Bias! Bias! Bias!. It doesn't make any difference if it is Obama or any other black person. As long as he/she is black that who she would back. Just because she is who she is doest change the bias.

xtina chicago IL   September 6th, 2007 12:10 pm ET

Emotion has nothing to do with voting for the right person for the Presidental nomination. Whether or not you like someone is secondary to who will protect America's soverignty, who will stop earmark spending by Congress and who has experience in making decisions. Most of the candidates (on both Dem and Repub. side) are Senators who have done little more than sit and debate.

Farrell   September 6th, 2007 12:07 pm ET

Oprah has the right as an American to back anyone she choose and by doing so she is not infringing on any ones rights. I am an African American female and democrat and not influenced by anyone and favors Obama, however Mitt Romney is the person of interest to me at this time, I like him.

Manny, CA   September 6th, 2007 12:06 pm ET

I like Oprah; she’s done lots of good things for people needing help, all over the world.
I don't have time to watch her show anymore and for someone we’ve watched struggle with a weight problem for years, her magazine is stuffed full of too many skinny models, which I think is strange. Anyway, our country is in crisis and anyone who would let a talk-show host influence their vote in anyway shouldn't be allowed vote.
Then again, there are a lot of people who are so clueless that I’ve decided we need to have a test to see who should be allowed in the voting booths. Written in ENGLISH, of course. If you’re an American you should be able to answer the following questions: (hint: they don’t have anything to do with Brittany, Paris, Vick or Oprah).

1. Name the first 5 presidents of the United States, in order.
2. What is the capital of the United States of America?
3. What is the name of the CURRENT Vice President?
4. The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from what country?
5. What year was the Declaration of Independence written (hint: also known as the birthday of America).

AG, Los Angeles, CA   September 6th, 2007 12:05 pm ET

Well, I don't affiliate myself with any political party. I am in my twenties and admire Oprah on many levels. That said I don't think O prah supporting Obama is going to make any diff as to who I'll vote for. Its her decision and I vaalue myself to trust my own judgement as to who I think will make the best president to focus on the needs of the country at this time. I do believe that considering the very big global problems our country faces, this is not the time to choose someone just for their gender of race. I try my best to be informed and have some idea as to what needs to be done and will vote for someone who I think is best suitable to get that done. I am leaning towards the democrats but the gender or race will not be part of my consideration. As far as Obama is concerned I wish I'll be able to know more of what he stands for, I think he's playing too safe so as not to turn people away and I am just sick of people playing it safe. We end up voting not for the person we like the most but the one we dislike the least.

Nicole, Chicago, IL   September 6th, 2007 12:05 pm ET

I don't understand why so many of you are getting angry over the possible impact of Oprah's endorsement. There are plenty of celebrities endorsing candidates and you're not whining about them. Half of you posting these negative comments probably don't even vote yourselves. If you do in fact decide to go to the polls, make your choice and get over yourselves. Oprah may be "an entertainer" but she is not a selfish one. Why is it that the race card is always pulled in this country? Who cares why she chose to endore Obama. Obama would be a great candidate with or without her.

Jurgen Schulze, New York, NY   September 6th, 2007 12:05 pm ET

What a terrifying thought: Oprah Winfrey tells the American public who should be President! I would have thought that she had more common sense than to endorse a candidate who has yet to earn a record of proven leadership.

Ron, TX   September 6th, 2007 12:03 pm ET

Posted By Cary – Lowell, IN : September 6, 2007 11:49 am >>

Oh my. How do you think taxes get lowers, crime rates drop, and budgets get set? The answer: through legislation… that's the political process…

Lyn, MD   September 6th, 2007 12:01 pm ET

I find some of these comments amazing.

I suspect the problem is that she is backing Obama and not Hillary, right Michelle from Va. If she did it would be great. She knows Hillary that is correct…maybe that should tell you something, as far as "she is" concerned which is the better candidate since she knows them personally and calls both friend.

Secondly, How is she trying to buy the election? What I suspect the Oprah haters don't like is that she can offer Obama a "PLATFORM" (TV, Radio and magazine) to talk to the American people unfiltered by the MSM -a true no media spin zone. It's up to him after that.

I see no complaints when other people get endorsements from media moguls, govenors, entertainment people etc. and I suspect there would be no complaint if she merely said "I like Obama and endorse him" its just that she has the ability to back it up. I believe Oprah will lay out her beliefs and feelings and tell her audience here is the man…make your own decision after you listen to him.

Linda - Albany, NY   September 6th, 2007 12:00 pm ET

Oprah is just as out of touch with reality as Obama. Unfortunately, there are those who will never see that.

Frank, Whittier CA   September 6th, 2007 11:59 am ET

Who does not love Oprah? She is the Queen of Queens! But I agree with most, her edorsement will have no effect on my choice for the election. I'm already a Clinton supporter but I love Obama too!

Beverly, Cherry Hill, NJ   September 6th, 2007 11:59 am ET

Is anyone tired of elections being bought, paid for, and wraped with a bow? Is anyone tired of "others" trying to make up our minds. If it isn't the press trying to sway us then it is the entertainers who use their clout that WE gave them to push their choice on us. Oprah has a right to her choice and so do I but why should her choice be more important or influential than mine. I remember when it wasn't.
No big shots money is going to help when the person in the White House has to make a life and death decision. Their money is not going to give the President more wisdom. We need the best person for the job not necessarily the one with most influencial friends.

Roberto, Austin, TX   September 6th, 2007 11:58 am ET

I'm a conservative who hasn't voted for a Democrat since 1992, however after listening to positions and looking at leadership ability, I will be supporting Obama this election. We need a leader, not a lobbyist and PAC sellout like Clinton, Edwards, Giuliani, or Romney.

Angel, Alexandria, VA   September 6th, 2007 11:57 am ET

Oprah can support whoever she wants, there's nothing wrong with that. Get off her back. If you dont want to vote for Obama, then DON'T. But Oprah can do whatever she wants!

Karen-Harrisburg PA   September 6th, 2007 11:55 am ET

I just think it is obvious, that she is only backing him because he is black. She never supported anyone before and now she is. I do think she does a lot of good generally for all
kinds of people but the bottom line, is, she is black and will always be of the mind set to stick with blacks, yet it the very people that say not to be prejudice. Look at Al Sharpton and Jessee Jackson..only things they get involved with are when blacks are accused. I still never remembering them apologizing to the Duke boys when it came out the girl was a fraud.
Dont see them disgusted with Mike Vick that killed and did all sorts of undergrounded related to the dog fighting…but we are to FORGIVE HIM…but hate IMUS for using words.
He didnt kill and gamble away monies that could help someone…but Vick..all those monies could be goin to schools and help the blacks..IMUS has ranch for sick children..
the inequity of the thinking of most people —for me…I dont get it!

I have absolutely no problem with Oprah endorsing Obama or anyone else. I just don't want to see it on her show or read about it in every issue of her magazine. Heck She can run herself I just don't want to see her on the campaign trail everytime I turn the TV on. Oh and go easy on the coffee.

I predict a possible backlash of many of Oprahs white, female, conservative minded fans who will stop viewing the Oprah show. This is not a view from a racial point but rather one from a political stand.

James, Phoenix AZ   September 6th, 2007 11:50 am ET

Oprah has enjoyed much success in talk-show hosting, production company (Harpo), magazine, etc. I genuinely believe THIS will be her undoing – becoming too involved in Obama's campaign. Oprah has come under her own spell that if OPRAH endorses it the rest of the country should buy it. Now she wants to prove her endorsement can inaugurate a Presidency.

I hope Americans DON'T vote for Obama simply to put an end to Oprah's ego trip. Hollywood and Talk-Show hosts make tons of money entertaining us – not THINKING for us.

Patty Schroeder, Aurora, IL   September 6th, 2007 11:49 am ET

People suggesting that Obama is using Oprah and Hillary is using Bill to promote their candidacy is totally absurd. Both of these candidates have their positives and some ngatives. No one from the democratic side is perfect, but certainly they are superior than any of the republicans. People should not vote based on the endorsements by celebrities, but by their positions, experience, and wisdom to handle difficult issues.

Cary - Lowell, IN   September 6th, 2007 11:49 am ET

Obama is a nice enough guy, but what is his experience in makig budget decisions, lowering taxes, and lowering crime. He doesn't have ANY experience, other than legislating, which is NOT what a President does.

Sam, Washington, DC   September 6th, 2007 11:49 am ET

A great example of why we need to re-implement the fairness doctrine.

Dawn, Arlington VA   September 6th, 2007 11:46 am ET

Jerry,Tallahassee,FL

Who are you…the reincarnation of Jerry Falwell? Define Evil! Is evil spending millions of dollars each year to educate African American men at Morehouse University and other colleges and universites around the country? Investing in euducation in South Africa to create future leaders to lead that nation out of poverty and despair? Donating millions to the recovery of NOLA? Donating millions to catch child sexual predators? Purchasing a new home for Corretta Scott King? Spending untold millions more to better the lives of Americans and people around the globe?

Jerry, what are you doing to better the lives of anyone? Nothing!

Steve Wittlake Blaine Washington   September 6th, 2007 11:45 am ET

Before the Democratic primaries and caucuses are over Clinton and Obama will have destroyed the Democratic
party.

georgina   September 6th, 2007 11:44 am ET

So does this mean that when Queen Oprah has a fund raiser for Obama, all will wear black and she and he will wear red to distinguish themselves with the great unwashed? Get over yourself Oprah!

Dawn, Arlington VA   September 6th, 2007 11:40 am ET

Shelly, Owasso Ok,

Did you have such a negative reaction when Steven Spielberg endorsed Hillary Clinton? Like you, Spielberg and every other American, Oprah Winfrey has every right for her voice to be in heard. If she truly believes that Senator Obama is the best person suited to lead this country, why shouldn't she say so? Last I checked, there wasn't a financial or celebrity cap or exclusion to being part of the democratic process. If Ronald Reagan and Arnold Swartenegger (spelling?) could jump from the big screen to the CA governor's seat, then Oprah has every write to be part of this process too.

Anonymous   September 6th, 2007 11:38 am ET

Obama brings hope to the forgotten people. If Oprah can help draw more focus to Obama then thats great. Its no different from getting a labour union to endorse a candidate. The union guides or influence its members on who to vote for, they dont force them. its my believe Oprah would look to do the same for Obama. Oprah is a very influencial person to many americans of all classes and races.

Stefanie Richard, Canada   September 6th, 2007 11:38 am ET

Really I am impressed if women in America just start voting. So if it takes Oprah to do that, so be it. Perhaps it will create a habit for the futur.

C. K. Preddie, Ontario, Canada   September 6th, 2007 11:37 am ET

There is no doubting Oprah's power and influence. However, prior to speaking on Larry King's show, she introduced Hilary Clinton as the next President of the U.S.A. How times have changed.

Recently Mr. Obama was reported to have argued that he has more experience than Hilary Clinton, which would mean that he has had greater exposure to conventional politics and conventional thinking in politics that Hilary Clinton, which might make him more contaminated by the wat we do politics today, that she has been. We should remember she was not a member of her husband's administration even thoug so many Americans now seem to link her directly with that administration at the same time that they wish to deny her that experiebce.

aen... brazil   September 6th, 2007 11:35 am ET

Obama/Oprah, anyone? She's trying to buy her place in the ticket.

Think about it, she's a woman and she's black. Isn't that Elizabeth Edwards' (bless her – just wish she wasn't involved in the campaign/her husband wasn't running) recipe for success?

Martina Rodriguez - East Rutherford, NJ   September 6th, 2007 11:35 am ET

Who cares ? The regular viewership and so-called "Church of Oprah" are of below-average intelligence and will readily vote for someone, if they are told to do so.

Ironically, a large percentage of such voters will probably recoil in horror and denounce Oprah, when she finally reveals herself to be a lesbian.

David, Silver Spring, MD   September 6th, 2007 11:33 am ET

J. Smith of Washington DC tries to suggest that Oprah is supporting Obama because of his race. That's absurd, given that in 2004 Carol Mosley Braun of Illinois also ran for President. If Oprah were just out to support a "black" candidate, that would've been the time to do it.

Oprah has proven herself to be intelligent, articulate, and engaged in the world around her. I think her endorsement should be seen in light of her obvious qualifications to make such an evaluation.

pl. at the UN for a while.   September 6th, 2007 11:33 am ET

I am not American. I cannot vote.

Dan from TX says:

"…So Hillary has Bill and Barack has Oprah. That more than levels the playing field.

"I don't think Oprah can convince anyone directly to vote for Obama, but she can convince people to look closely at him and his policies and then decide for themselves."

That's well thought out and concisely presented. Good fodder for the reader.

D.Barris Meadville, PA   September 6th, 2007 11:33 am ET

Even with all her money, Oprah is a caring and giving individual. Maybe she knows something about Obama we don't. Either way, we are truly a country in trouble if Hillary goes to the White House.

Michelle, Marion, VA   September 6th, 2007 11:32 am ET

Oprah always talks about empowering women. Then, she turns around and backs a man for president when there is a woman running. She doesn't stand by what she preaches.

Josh D, Wichita Falls, Texas   September 6th, 2007 11:31 am ET

Let's just hope Obama doesn't slip one past Oprah and America the way James Frey did…the US might be in a million little pieces if we listen to Oprah too much…everyone should listen to their own beliefs before relying on someone made famous by daytime tv…

Tulsa Oklahoma   September 6th, 2007 11:30 am ET

Well I would hope that we can think for ourselves why is it we say Church and State or seperate but Oprah can say hey I'm backing this man and we say okay well if Oprah says he is okay then he is okay. Sorry Oprah is not my leader as much as I respect her and much as Halle is my girl, I will not be voting for Obama, or Hillary I have not decided yet but I can think for myself and I do not need Hollywood to thinking for me. I may vote republican again like I did last time what we need to do is listen to all the people that are running for office and see what we consider important to us and that is how we should vote and not get upset the 1st time someone disagree's with what you say you turn on them . I said that to say this no matter how much I may agree with somethings a person stands for when it comes down to it I will still go ahead and think for myself thanks but no thanks.

Hopeful, Trenton, NJ   September 6th, 2007 11:27 am ET

The point is not that Oprah will be blindly leading anyone, or that the election will be bought. It is that Oprah has the respect of a lot of people. When we make decisions on how we feel about issues affecting us, we sometimes look to people whose opinions we respect. I Oprah is simply introducing Obama to this group of people that pay attention to her. His main problem in the polls is not that he is not a viable candidate, but that Hillary Clinton is a household name, and people will say they are voting for her simply because they don't know enough about the other candidates. I think that as people start to pay more attention to what Obama says, and how genuine he is when he says it, then things will change. Overall, voting for someone because a celebrity tells you too is ridiculous. However paying attention to the people they are supporting is never a bad thing.

Jeff Hertel, Sherwood Ar   September 6th, 2007 11:27 am ET

It is a fearful thing to think that an egomanic like Oprah can potentially influence the voting choice of millions of relatively under educated (or uneducated), ill-informed viewers. This is especially sad if Oprah's primary reason for endorsing Obama is because he is black – in that case Oprah's support would be racially motivated. Can you imagine the fall out if a white TV host openly supported Hillary chiefly because of her skin color?

kebD, Flint, Michigan   September 6th, 2007 11:27 am ET

I don't see what all the fuss is about? Oprah just sees what so many other Americans see in Obama:

A strong, intelligent man who is capable of running our country and repairing the deep damage that this current administration has done.

I have never been a fan of Oprah but I back her on this! OBAMA 08!!

DPrice Fairfax, VA   September 6th, 2007 11:26 am ET

It is very stupid for anyone to think that Oprah's business will be hurt by this. It is not a money issue, she does not need more money. She feels he is the best person for the job and like all Americans she is entitled to support and vote for whom she chooses. Bush is in the White House because of his father and has done a poor job since Day 1. If anything, this should provoke us to look at each candidate and what they could do for the country.

"Oprah backing Obama is huge. She will be a huge force for him, help out strongly with the womens vote, and most likely the black vote as well."

the person that wrote this apparently have never watch Oprah!!!… over 90% of Oprah's audience is WHITE!!!!!

this is just a big ZZZZZZZZZ…. Obama is getting DESPERATE to break the slump he is right now and is pulling all the stops….

so sorry Obama, she will NOT help you win…. she have NO political CLOUT and she have been sucking up to the Clintons for a long time….. is very OBVIOUS why is she backing you!!!!!!

Kelly, Houston, TX   September 6th, 2007 11:24 am ET

they are both pro-aborts (Obama and Clinton)…so I don't support either…

J Houston, TX   September 6th, 2007 11:22 am ET

Let's face it. We now choose Presidents based upon whom is the least horrible. That's how pathetic this elections options are.

Shelly, Owasso Ok.   September 6th, 2007 11:22 am ET

Who's Sheel?

B. Brooklyn NY I second that!!!

Jerry,Tallahassee,FL   September 6th, 2007 11:18 am ET

Oprah is evil. I like Obama but Oprah has a swelled head and IS NOT doing this for the people.. she is doing this for OPRAH

Ethel, Harrisburg PA   September 6th, 2007 11:17 am ET

Oprah has a large audience listening to her. It will allow Obama to speak to them and answer their questions. It will also allow him to get closer to them to allow them to really get to know him. Then they are able to decision if he will address the issues that affect them.

J. Smith Washington D.C.   September 6th, 2007 11:14 am ET

Never supported a candidate before,…..before their was a black candidate that is. This is a ridiculous entry, and an insult to all Americans, of any color. Do you people really believe that she will influence the voters? Please. I think she is a closet racist, and she is showing her true colors. What people should really be asking her is: "Why now, why Obama"? What sets him apart? Once again, you forget about the entire mid-section of this country who couldn't give a rat's behind about who Oprah endorses. Thanks for continuing the on-going dummying-down of America. Long live the Cult of Celebrity!

andrew s rostolder hillsdale nj   September 6th, 2007 11:10 am ET

Hey Sheel in Oklahoma are you done with Bill also.Since his wife is using him for her political gains.

Linda this is reality

B. Brooklyn, NY USA   September 6th, 2007 11:10 am ET

In my humble opinion. Ms. Winfrey should in fact stay clear of to close an involvment to ANY canidate as it could potentially backfire and hurt her business.

Fund raising is fair game becoming a spokesperson is forcing to much of your opinion down others throats. She is afterall still just an entertainer.

B. Brooklyn, NY

Ron, TX   September 6th, 2007 11:08 am ET

Hillary is using Bill Clinton's clout to try and ride her way into the White House. It's nice to see that Obama has an equal footing in the race now! Maybe absent minded Clintonites will start to compare the candidate's statements instead of their backers?

Wendy, Lexington, KY   September 6th, 2007 11:08 am ET

I wouldn't expect Oprah to endorse anyone but Obama. Endorsements by celebrities should not play a role in which candidate one votes for. It's become a very sad time in our country where people have to follow celebrities in regards to which book they read, what candidate they vote for, etc. Why can't people make up their own minds?

Renee St.Louis   September 6th, 2007 11:08 am ET

Oprah isn't trying to buy the election. She sees a canidate who can inspire this country and bring it back to the american people. What is wrong with that.Hey Hillary has Bill she shouldn't be using her husband as experience for herself. All you negative people Get A Life. It is time for change Obama 08

Chicago, IL   September 6th, 2007 11:05 am ET

Oprah backing Obama is huge. She will be a huge force for him, help out strongly with the womens vote, and most likely the black vote as well.

Lee Williams, Hoover, Alabama   September 6th, 2007 11:01 am ET

I absolutely cannot stand Oprah Winfrey, so an endorsement from her would backfire in my case. I'd run the other way from anyone she supported!

George, Orlando FL   September 6th, 2007 11:00 am ET

Quick question… Has anyone noticed that the fundamental principles our country was founded on are now gone? There needs to be a revolution before our country will ever be able to return to its natural state. I am not trying to bash Obama, but all current politicians. Our jobs are being shipped over seas, amnesty is being offered to illegals, we are paying insane amounts of PERSONAL income tax (few remember the days when taxes were tarrifs on goods not on the person), backdoor deals within our government making a few rich, universal health care (like it or not it will ruin health care quality), constant state of war, education amoung youth falling, high dependance on welfare amoung the poor, etc etc. We are faced with many problems and NONE of the candidates, Republican nor Democrat are working towards fixing this nation.

Dan, TX   September 6th, 2007 10:59 am ET

So Hillary has Bill and Barack has Oprah. That more than levels the playing field.

I don't think Oprah can convince anyone directly to vote for Obama, but she can convince people to look closely at him and his policies and then decide for themselves.

Amanda, Flint MI   September 6th, 2007 10:56 am ET

While I agree that people trust Oprah and some people may vote simply because she tells them to – I think (and hope)that enough of the population has realized that they have to take an active roll in choosing their presidential candidate. I sincerely hope the era of blind obediance to mass media is over. And by the way – I am a big Obama fan.

Katie, cincinnati, ohio   September 6th, 2007 10:53 am ET

I have been a loyal oprah fan for 20 years. Her endorsement of Obama will have no effect on my presidential choice. It is not a popularity contest in this time of crisis in our country.

Shelly, Owasso Ok.   September 6th, 2007 10:49 am ET

I love Oprah. I am one of those that buys her magazines and watches her show. But if she uses her clout to buy this election I'm done with her.
