President Bush will give his progress report on Iraq next week, based on information from Gen. David Petraeus.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — When President Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq last weekend, he made clear he was pleased with what he saw.

"The security situation is changing," Bush told reporters during the visit. "There's more work to be done. But reconciliation is taking place."

But according to the Sydney Morning Herald of Australia, the president gave a more-to-the-point assessment to Australia Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile.

"We're kicking ass," Bush said to Vaile Tuesday, according the Herald, after the deputy prime minister inquired about his trip to Iraq.

On Thursday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino would not confirm or deny the reported comment. (Related Video: Jack Cafferty reads your e-mails on Bush's blunt talk)

This isn't the first blunt comment Bush was overheard making to a world leader. At last year's G8 summit, a live microphone picked up the president telling then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair that the United Nations needs to "get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s**t."

Yeah, right.

Mission Accomplished.

Once a year this incompetent boob comes out and announces new successes in Iraq, and once a year the stenographers at CNN loyally pass his nonsense on.

Don't you think people notice that the same things were said in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006?

"The Iraqi Army is being trained up to take over security."

"Progress at political reconciliation is being made."

"The insurgency is in its last throes."

"Bring it on."

"We're kicking ass."

L. Tozzo   September 6th, 2007 5:34 pm ET

Yet another example that this president is delusional….

Bill, Streamwood, IL   September 6th, 2007 5:34 pm ET

Is George Bush taking some sort of special medication of which we citizens of the United States should be told?

If so, how can I get some?

Kit Prate, Montello, Wisconsin   September 6th, 2007 5:37 pm ET

"We're kicking ass!" That's going to look really great emblazoned on the wall of W's Presidential Library. Maybe directly opposite from the shelf containing his collection of "cowboy" stories and the other two books he's read.

Johnny Chicago   September 6th, 2007 5:37 pm ET

Can someone please assasinate him?

Phillip Page Fredericktown, Missouri   September 6th, 2007 5:37 pm ET

Impeach the idiot.

Diane Doyle Lake Arrowhead CA   September 6th, 2007 5:37 pm ET

So "presidential."

Ace, Orange Count California   September 6th, 2007 5:38 pm ET

If "kicking ass" means thousands of innocent people are dying because of his greed, then we must be kicking ass.

Jarred, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma   September 6th, 2007 5:38 pm ET

I'm glad to hear that the President is so down to earth and can tell it like it is.

Logan, Huntington, WV   September 6th, 2007 5:38 pm ET

He's the president of the most powerful nation on Earth and he says, "We're kicking ass," like he's talking about a Texas high school football team.

Ross, Manlius, NY   September 6th, 2007 5:38 pm ET

Another crude comment from a fool cowboy who causes other people to die, but who can't even prove he served his time in the military!

Becky, Euless, TX   September 6th, 2007 5:41 pm ET

Really? How many Troops have died in this senseless war again?

bvt, Elko, Nevada   September 6th, 2007 5:41 pm ET

Whose ass? The American peoples'?

Arkay, Detrot, MI   September 6th, 2007 5:41 pm ET

"We're kicking ass,", "Fantastic Freedom Institute" and "replenish ol' coffers". Can he get any more adolescent?

John, Green Bay Wisconsin   September 6th, 2007 5:44 pm ET

and people wonder why the US is not taken seriously in the world, when our 'leader' is making statements that sound like something out of a bad action movie. He's not the brightest guy.

Mark, Holmen, Wisconsin   September 6th, 2007 5:45 pm ET

Very classy, Mr. President. We need less tough talking cowboy hyperbole and more reason and logic in your approach to this mess you have created.

Josh Maloney, Oakland, CA   September 6th, 2007 5:51 pm ET

No, Mr. President. We are not "kicking ass" in Iraq. Only a moron would make a comment like this. I rest my point.

Jim Arnold, Germantown, TN   September 6th, 2007 5:51 pm ET

Did we hear that right, George? "Kicking ass?"
Our men and women certainly have had successes, but your deceitful and toxic policies are to blame for the thousands of dead and wounded that were sent their because of your lies. And let's not forgot what you have done to Iraq and its citizens–hundreds of thousands dead and wounded, millions displaced, sectarian violence that is reminiscent of the Middle Ages. Childhoods robbed and lives forever altered because you like to "Kick Ass."

Kicking ass, indeed! What a misguided simpleton we have as president. My fingers won't allow me to even spell president (this one anyway) with a capital p. W, you are disgraceful.

Jim Arnold

Kris, Toronto   September 6th, 2007 5:52 pm ET

There's that cowboy we all love so much.

Kicking who's ass, exactly? The American taxpayer's ass?

Hank, Palm Springs, CA   September 6th, 2007 5:52 pm ET

Would like to say I am surprised … but I am not. This has to be the most foolish president in the history of the United States.

Justin, St Petersburg, FL   September 6th, 2007 5:56 pm ET

"Kicking Ass"?

This guy is unbelievable. All the people that have died. All the billions of dollars that have been wasted. All the credibility America has lost, and this is our PRESIDENT's bonehead summation?

501 days, that's all I can look forward to.

Jay Austin, Texas   September 6th, 2007 5:57 pm ET

This yahoo will be remembered as the Worst President Ever. He is such an incredible embarrassment.

Witheld   September 6th, 2007 5:58 pm ET

I really enjoy how the headline is "We're kicking ass" yet CNN can't even validate if the President said the line. More liberal headlines….

Henry Tucker, Ga   September 6th, 2007 5:58 pm ET

Thank You President Bush for continuing to stand up for our soldiers - unlike these weak-knee'd liberals that continually provide aid and comfort to our enemies.

Perhaps Bin Laden in his upcoming video will help guide the American people in knowing which democratic candidate he and his fellow terrorists support.

dan, Denver, CO   September 6th, 2007 5:58 pm ET

Our president the third grader. How freakin embarrassing can this clown get?

I guess it goes a long ways toward explaining why he kept reading My Pet Goat after he was told "our nation is under attack". Embarrasing…

J Houston, TX   September 6th, 2007 5:58 pm ET

Hundreds of thousands have not died in Iraq. Not even close. Quit lying.

We are kicking ass, and if we weren't fighting terrorism abroad, we'd be fighting it here. The question is "why haven't we won yet" not "why did we go to war." For anyone who thinks America didn't want this war, you are gravely confused and likely a Democrat trying to pull political clout. The fact is, most of this country supported the war at the start, they are now war weary with good reason to be so.

jeremyt, Bris, QLD   September 6th, 2007 5:59 pm ET

Who cares?? I'm glad we are kicking arse. And Syria and Hezballah SHOULD stop this s***.

Bush tells it how it is. I'm so glad we don't have to listen to the same old academic wankery that some politicians come up with to try to explain something so simple.

Badonkadonk, Houston, Texas   September 6th, 2007 6:00 pm ET

Ron, Champaign, IL   September 6th, 2007 6:03 pm ET

"reconciliation is taking place"=Shiites are killing or driving away all the Sunni's in Baghdad so after the ethnic cleansing is done then things will be better, except the Shiites factions will then probably turn to killing each other - lots more ass kicking to come!

Dennis, San Francisco, CA   September 6th, 2007 6:03 pm ET

"Kicking ass"??? Could this boob at least PRETEND to be presidential? And this on the heels of comparing Iraq to Vietnam. Yeah, we kicked ass there too. Perhaps he should take a short walk to the Vietnam Memorial. And yes I was in the military between '69 & '73 and those of us who were remember what a fiasco that was.

nathan, gilbert AZ   September 6th, 2007 6:04 pm ET

oh my god. come on. we all curse and bush does too. GET OVER IT! what has news come to? i hate bush, but i feel sorry for him because everytime he mutters a curse word he gets a news story written about him on cnn. this seriously lowers my opinion of this site.

Moriah Tampa, Florida   September 6th, 2007 6:05 pm ET

President Bush makes me feel ashamed sometimes to live in America.
We constantly go over to other countries and kick down their doors for no reason. But their excuse is they're checking for weapons of mass destruction. We still have no right to charge in like we own the place. Other countries don't come into ours to check if we do. So what gives us the right? All we're doing is exterminating our country slowly by sending us to Iraq where all that happens is we're killed in car bombs and suicide missions. Then we bribe men to join the army by giving them $20,000 but these men aren't even fit enough so our troops can't even last 5 minutes. How is that ass kicking? Iraq is kicking our ass and the president just wants to hide it from us so we don't panic. He should be a "man" and tell us the truth. Our troops are weak, which makes us lose more men.

This is just a load of crap.

Pete. Fernandina Beach, Florida   September 6th, 2007 6:06 pm ET

This is typical of a "Commander in Chief" that never saw a day of combat or can even produce his entire military record. What a surprise when our military is allowed to engage we are successful. We can occupy forever losing some mythical acceptable number of soldiers daily or work out a political solution and allow our finest citizens, our military to come home. They have "Kicked Ass" twice now. Grow UP!

Mandy, Tampa, Florida   September 6th, 2007 6:07 pm ET

Our armed services act as shield and sword. As far as shield and swords go, we definitely have the best, most able to “kick ass” there is, something for which I am very, very thankful. But as far as people wielding the shield and sword go, we probably have one of the most incompetent, least kick-ass of all time (i.e. Bush).

john p breen, freeport, new york   September 6th, 2007 6:09 pm ET

President Bush is out of control and continues to be completely oblivious to the facts, i.e., the NIE report, the GAO report, reporters on the ground in Iraq, etc. At some point, he needs to be held accountable for his continued incompetence and refusal to be truthful with himself and the American people. His behavior is unacceptable.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   September 6th, 2007 6:09 pm ET

Well it looks like we won't have to wait for Gen. Petraeus' report since Bush has already announced "we're kicking ass".

Clint, Menlo Park, CA   September 6th, 2007 6:10 pm ET

Another completely insensitive, inappropriate and inaccurate comment from our incompetent and insane leader.

Were we kicking ass when some of our people shot up a bunch of Iraqi women, and children? Are we kicking ass when we torture prisoners? Are we kicking ass when the government we set up is half gone?

Someone should kick Bush's ass. If given the opportunity, I would be first in line.

Rob R., Chicago, IL   September 6th, 2007 6:10 pm ET

Word now has it that Osama bin Laden will be addressing us this September 11. Suppose **he'll** be talking about whose posterior's been punted?

Silly ignorant loudmouthed schmuck.

Dave, St. Clairsville, OH   September 6th, 2007 6:11 pm ET

I'm certain that the civil Iraqi's who are fleeing their country as refugees, and who have been left for other countries to deal with, feel like they've had their asses kicked. The President needs to talk with Huckabee to discuss the new 'we broke it we bought it' foreign policy.

AURA VEIRS, CLAREMONT,CA   September 6th, 2007 6:11 pm ET

IRAQ NATIONALIZED ITS OIL AND OTHER NATURAL RESOURCES, AND BY "KICKING THEIR ASS," PRES. BUSH SEEKS TO PUT THOSE VALUABLE ASSETS UNDER CONTROL OF PRIVATE INVESTORS.THE DAY THAT IS DONE, THE WAR WILL BE OVER AND THE SAME INVESTORS WILL USE ANOTHER PRESIDENT TO AFTER OTHER ASSETS WHEREVER THEY HAVE BECOME PUBLIC PROPERTY.

Bill, Streamwood, IL   September 6th, 2007 6:11 pm ET

While "We're kicking ass" in Iraq, Osama bin Laden has been laughing his ass off for the last six years in Pakistan or where ever.

Of course George Bush is too dense to realize how humiliated this makes him and the U.S. look.

How come Senator Obama is the ONLY presidential candidate who has, until today, talked about getting bin Laden?

Cindy Stevens   September 6th, 2007 6:12 pm ET

We're kicking ass? Ok what kinda of drugs is this man on and where can I get some? I'll need them just to get thru the rest of his term. Hell, the whole country will need them, just to get thru. Ok so that brings me to a National Health Care program, oh God don't get me started……

Anonymous   September 6th, 2007 6:12 pm ET

This badmouthing of President and his party took us "the most arrogant nation" on the planet and its going to take lot of time for the next president to change the impression among other nations. Let's "kick ass" this corrupt, scandalus, and arrogant party in 2008.

Darren, Fort Lauderdale, FL   September 6th, 2007 6:25 pm ET

This President continues to demonstrate that he is an absolute moron and that he thinks he is a kid in a candy store. To make a comment like "we're kicking ass" is the kind of thing you'd here on a high school football field — not in a situation in which you're directly responsible for the deaths of 3700+ Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis and have gotten the United States into a war for which their is no easy way out.

Tricia M Charlottetown PEI   September 6th, 2007 6:26 pm ET

Why would his statement surprise anyone?

When he was Govenor of Texas he continually praised their Justice System for performing the highest number of executions across America! In fact according to Amnesty International, Texas performed more executions in the same time period than Communist China! What a great achievement. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles seldom met to discuss either and if they did the members discussed the life and death situations of prisoners via telephone. They apparently didn't consider life a serious enough matter to discuss face to face. (Not long ago the media informed the world that many of those executions took the lives of innocent people!)

So I wasn't surprised by Bush's rush to war and his "We'll Hunt Them Down." Rhetoric.

And I'm still not surprised by the rough and ready cowboy, jargon he recklessly puts out to the media.

Yet, this is the same man who would like us to believe he cries alot !! Crocodile Tears I guess.

Rodney Dallas TX   September 6th, 2007 6:27 pm ET

Which Iraq is he talking about cause it's certainly not the same one I've been hearing about.

ralph tyler, santa fe NM   September 6th, 2007 6:27 pm ET

Oh yes. We are surely kicking ass in Iraq.

The question is whose ass are we kicking? All our dead and wounded soldiers? All the Iraqi dead and wounded? All the Iraqi refugees?

Anyone who makes a comment like that is psychotic.

Tyler Durden, Atlanta GA   September 6th, 2007 6:28 pm ET

K. Blake, Clinton, Mississippi   September 6th, 2007 6:28 pm ET

God Bless our President and our Great Country

Ron, TX   September 6th, 2007 6:29 pm ET

The only ass Bush, the Republicans, and Hillary Clinton are kicking is Al-Maliki, the head of the Iraqi government… I still can't believe they all publicly denounced him while he is struggling for power.

gerry goodhand montreal quebec, canada   September 6th, 2007 6:30 pm ET

John, Everett, WA   September 6th, 2007 6:32 pm ET

He's an immature frat boy who has no business on the world stage dealing with real leaders.

Vienna, VA   September 6th, 2007 6:33 pm ET

Another 'Bring it on' moment perhaps? Or is it a 'Mission Accomplished' mentality?

Mandy, Tampa, FL   September 6th, 2007 6:34 pm ET

It’s important to recognize that our armed services merely act as shield and sword. And as far as shields and swords go, we definitely have the best, most “kick ass” there is, something for which I am very proud and very thankful. But when it comes to people wielding the shield and sword, metaphorically speaking, we probably have one of the least competent, least “kick-ass” of all time (i.e. Bush).

Jackie Warren, NY, NY   September 6th, 2007 6:34 pm ET

Bush says, "we're kicking ass." Ya sure, if killing a million people (many of them civilians) and leaving a hornet's nest of warring factions is kicking ass. The only ass Bush is kicking is his own as he stumbles through the last days of his presidency.

Matt, San Francisco California   September 6th, 2007 6:35 pm ET

Worst. President. Ever.

John E. Free, Lansing, Michigan   September 6th, 2007 6:37 pm ET

It amazes me that this guy has somehow managed not to get impeached. George W. Bush has singlehandedly dragged the reputation of the United States and its citizens to an all-time low. But instead of getting a clue about the damage he has done, he just keeps adding fuel to the flames by utilizing his typical, classless rhetoric to describe his version of reality.

Libby, Grand Rapids, MI   September 6th, 2007 6:38 pm ET

Wow, not only does he speak English like it's his second language, he's delusional too! Yikes

Manual De'Espana   September 6th, 2007 6:38 pm ET

What part of "Mission Accomplished" don't you people get? Oh, yeah, that's right… never mind. Seriously though, don't you get the sense that Hitler reassured people from his bunker that his forces were "kicking ass" against the Soviets and Americans? I doubt even Bush's friends (those who haven't bailed yet, and are still gathering material for their books) place much credability in his remarks.

George Hozendorf Hot Springs, AR   September 6th, 2007 6:39 pm ET

What an excellent example to set for our children and grandchildren. The President, during my 63 years, has always been someone we looked up to even when we didn't believe what he was doing. It's a sad day in American history when the President talks in such a manner publicly. Hopefully our next President will have some class.

Cathy Seattle WA   September 6th, 2007 6:39 pm ET

Kicking Ass??? Misson accomplished, Huh, George? To quote one of your more eloquent statements "Fool me once, shame one me…Fool me…can't get fooled again". What a moron

Stephen, Boulder, Colorado   September 6th, 2007 6:40 pm ET

Put that one up there with
"Mission Accomplished"
Was he in a flight suit on an Aircraft Carrier again?

Impeach Bush Now!

This story title was so outrageous it made me LOL for real!! What a moron - remember when he said to the insurgents a few years back "bring it on" They sure brought it didn't they.

I still can't believe that some people can still drive around with a bush/cheney 04 sticker.

Are you sure he was not referring to the appalcian state score at halftime?

Terry, El Paso, TX   September 6th, 2007 6:41 pm ET

If we are capturing, killing, or otherwise neutralizing the very large group of killers in Iraq, then that is fine with me. However, this enemy is not going to surrender like Japan and Germany surrendered to us in WWII. According to what I have read, many of the Islamic fanatics believe that destruction is their mission, and they are willing to die to destroy. I read one interview in which an Islamic terrorist observed that at the current rate of Jew-killing, only 27 Muslims had to die to kill one Jew. He said, and I'm afraid he meant it, "Those numbers are acceptable. If 100 million Muslims must die to eradicate all Jews, there will be plenty of Muslims left to continue the Islamic struggle in a post-Israel world." (I'm paraphrasing from memory.)

This enemy cannot be exterminated. For every one we kill, two more take his place. There are now many more terrorists than there was before we started killing them. We must help moderate Muslims build a counter-balancing political vision that is more secular in its perspective.

This is not going to be fixed by the 2008 elections. It is going to take a couple of generations to settle, and get out your checkbook. It is not going to be cheap.

I recommend a tax surcharge on every voter who voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 to help pay for the war. I was able to vote against the man four times, twice in the Texas gubernatorial race and twice for President.

We who saw him for what he is told all of you what kind of lightweight he is and most of you wouldn't listen. You voted for him anyway because you are against flag-burning and abortion. Now my children and I will have to pay huge taxes for the next decade or two because of your hard-headed Conservatism. You Conservatives, of course, are what I call "the free lunch bunch." You want to prosper in this society but you are unwilling to pay the cost of running a complex democracy in the 21st century. You will continue to elect Congressmen who will cut YOUR taxes, the country be damned.

RB   September 6th, 2007 6:41 pm ET

Imagine this coming from the leader of the most powerful nation in the free world. Honest to God, can this guy get any more arrogant?

He pandering to the chickenhawks like Hannity, Limbaugh, Blo'Reilly, Boortz and their ilk, hoping they'll carry his water for another few days.

This man is an embarrassment and a buffoon.

If he wants to see a real all-American ass-kicking, wait until he sees what the GOP gets in 2008, thanks to him.

Larry Broadcast of Boston   September 6th, 2007 6:43 pm ET

Kicking Ass? I suggest we get an aircraft carrier and have the President land on it in a jet and in a flight suit, and have a huge banner on the deck that reads MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - and then we could …..uhh, wait a minute, we already did that.

Jared Wyatt Fort McMurray, Alberta   September 6th, 2007 6:43 pm ET

I just want to close my eyes and ears until he is out of office.

James, Phoenix AZ   September 6th, 2007 6:47 pm ET

I can't believe he didn't carry a banner that said Mission Accomplished with him. And then we learn Osama is going to make a new terror video - good job Bush! Why don't you get on your horse, take your pistols and head out to the wild wild west and capture yourself a terrorist yourself - then make you can say you kicked some ass. Until then, stop the embarrassing remarks. DISGRACEFUL!

Keith Guice Franklin, Tn   September 6th, 2007 6:48 pm ET

Kicking ass and Mission Accomplished…..boy oh boy…W does it again.

Kicking ass for ol' Daddy's sake.

Where were you in Vietnam…W…you were kissing ass then…weren't you?

Marc, Sacramento, CA   September 6th, 2007 6:51 pm ET

The only ass Bush is kicking is that of things like the Bill of Rights, Habeus Corpus, America's standing in the eyes of the world, and the national budget, which my grandkids will be forced to pay to balance someday.

His latest gaffe is right in line with such previous Bush gems like "Mission Accomplished," "Bring 'em on," and "Heck of a job, Brownie."

How this man survived to adulthood is beyond me.

Jeremy, Madison, WI - Go Badgers!   September 6th, 2007 6:52 pm ET

I think he meant the 'ass' of our children and grandchildren who will still be paying the price for this idiotic invasion….

Don't you get the impression that Bush thinks the National Debt is like his score in Asteroids in 1980 and he's going for an unbeatable record?

John Starnes Tampa Florida   September 6th, 2007 6:55 pm ET

What would we expect from a loser who at 40 had failed at every business venture, and was the coke head alcoholic son of a president who had to tell us all that "I am not a wimp". Like father like son except in this case totally devoid of intelligence and empathy, both displaced by adolescent ego? Parachute him into downtown Bagdhad and let's watch him "Kick ass" as our soldiers come home. What a shameful excuse for a man and a President…surely his parents shake their heads daily.

Brad, Columbia, SC   September 6th, 2007 6:55 pm ET

The language itself doesn't bother me. I have no problem with the president using words like ass or s#!t.

And, if we take the remark out of its specific context, it's kind of funny. And on some level it's refreshing when politicians don't always offer the same canned sound bites. If either Guliani or Clinton, for example, were to say that their campaigns are "kicking ass," I'd be fine with that.

BUT…

Knowing what we know about Bush — his love of tough-guy rhetoric, his pride in his "Texas swagger," and his reckless tendency to view complex issues in stark terms — this latest remark only further demonstrates that Bush sees and believes what he wants and tries to force the evidence to fit his foregone conclusions. Remember, this is the guy who recently cited as evidence of progress in Iraq an official report that said more benchmarks for progress had not been met than had been.

jason hewitt, santee, sc   September 6th, 2007 6:56 pm ET

give me a break people. we all slip and say stuff like this. you are supposed to be on his side(america's side). i guess everyone forgot about those plane attacks again. i dont think he took the presidential seat knowing what it held for him. no one does. put yourself in his shoes. nevermind, you cant. i dont encourage or like war, and i feel for every family who has lost a family member, but sometimes you have to react when you have been the target of a terror plot. guess we shouldnt have increased security at airports either. remember he is a human being and your leader and we should support him and this country in whatever our/your president feels is best for this great land

Please say it ain't so!! It can't be another 500 days of this crude man. It just can't be!
With all the lives that have been lost during this needless war, that is the best jargon that he can muster up. Frankly, maybe it is his ass that really needs to be kicked.

Ed   September 6th, 2007 7:05 pm ET

But then again if it wasn’t for Bush’s Fascist ideology none of this would be happening right? Wrong. Terrorist have been running hither and fro for many decades trying to kill Americans. Even in the Billary decade when the left would like us to think that the world was hugging and kissing our American butts but according to Richard N. Haass, President, Council on Foreign Relations in 1996 (YES 1996!) stated that…

Terrorism is “a war with an unlimited number of battles, none of them decisive…. For a long time, terrorism was something we Americans mostly read about or saw on television. Now, terrorism has come to the United States, with a growing list of casualties and notorious events: the World Trade Center bombing, Oklahoma City, the Unibomber attacks, possibly TWA Flight 800–and certainly the pipe bomb at the Atlanta Olympics.” Haass went on to state, “In a world in which borders count for less and less, it should come as little surprise that terrorism has come to America. Our cities are the new battlefields, and we are the combatants.”

There is a growing body of extremely alarming and highly credible evidence that the U.S. Government, for purposes of stimulating public acceptance of legislation to limit personal freedoms, has itself engaged in the encouragement and the actual planning of acts of domestic terrorism against its own citizens. Some of this “encouragement” was brought to light when a reliable FBI informant notified the bureau of the immanent bombing of the World Trade Center. The incident was reported by the New York Times in the form of transcripts of tape recordings made by the aforementioned informant. These tapes were made of his conversations with FBI agents using equipment they had supplied him.

Against vigorous efforts by the Justice Department to keep the tapes and their contents secret, the federal judge presiding over the case of those indicted for the Trade Center bombing, ordered the recordings released and they became public knowledge.

Richard Ben-Veniste, former associate Watergate special prosecutor, exclaimed that the tapes, apparently unprecedented in American jurisprudence, foreshadowed “an absolute nightmare for federal prosecutors.” In addition to the New York Times story, the Los Angeles Times in an October 28, 1993 article also revealed details of FBI involvement in the terrorist act. FBI spokesmen in Washington refused comment.

This is from those whom you defend. The left… Drink the Kool-Aid… Drink it my children… they want to get you… they want to shut you up…

Smurfcrusher   September 6th, 2007 7:07 pm ET

"Heck of a job!" -er, oops, no, that was about his comment about the job the horse-trader Brown did after Katrina. Rest assured, in the ~500 days this idiot has in office, he will do plenty more damage.

Well… now there is an intelligent comment from our President.

jeff, williamstown, wv   September 6th, 2007 7:10 pm ET

SO WHATTTTT!!!!! Thank god he said whats on his mind and thank god for a real person. Thats how real people talk. Whatever your position on the war and thoughts of the president, we've gone mad and so robotic that anything UNPOLISHED and unscripted is outlandish. I wonder if Truman or Kenedy ever said something like this. You bet they did and its refreshing to hear sound clips like that today.

porter robinson columbus ohio   September 6th, 2007 7:10 pm ET

what a stupid comment. no wonder we are in the mess we are in.

Oscar A., Alhambra, CA   September 6th, 2007 7:12 pm ET

Just like in his college years, when he stood on the sidelines wearing a cheerleader outfit while the players were getting banged up on the field (or drafted for the Vietnam War) our "Commander in Chief" again, is talking tough while the real soldiers do the fighting.
This kind of talk only appeals to the 25% moron populace who incredulously, still support this embarrassing buffoon.

Okay Bush, time to exit your bubble and join the real world.

xtina - chicago IL   September 6th, 2007 7:16 pm ET

Thank you, President Bush for keeping the faith. And thank you to the fine men and women serving in our military. Please know that each and every one of you brave souls fighting to protect this great country are all doing something that not every person is capable of doing: Protecting people you have never met. No matter what religion or political lean a person has certain words mean the same to everyone- Bravery, Courage and Honor. And these three qualities describe our military.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for protecting me and my loved ones.

Once again, the White House resident demonstrates that he is incapable of speaking on behalf of the citizenry and unfit as leader and commander-in-chief. Given the wealth of talent in this great nation, it is unfortunate that we have a second string leader.

Rick, Chicago Illinois   September 6th, 2007 7:18 pm ET

All you bush-haters are angry because we're actually succeeding? Granted it hasn't been easy but you're constant negativity about Bush makes you look like the idiots!

Give the President some respect.

David, Dallas Tx   September 6th, 2007 7:19 pm ET

The score card:

Bin Laden - 2,752 Americans killed.

Sadaam Hussein - 122 Americans killed, all from the first Iraq invasion.

George W. Bush - 3,734 Americans killed, and still going strong.

Congrats Dubya! You ARE kicking ass in Iraq!

And doing more to kill Americans than bin Laden and Hussein together ever could.

Pity you're not as good at killing bin Laden. But then, you knew he wasn't in Iraq when you decided to pull troops out of Afghanistan in order to invade Iraq. Maybe–whisper it!–you weren't as excited about getting bin Laden as you were about seeing how well you could do as commander-in-chief of a fully unleashed American military campaign.

Henry Tucker, Ga   September 6th, 2007 7:23 pm ET

CNN chose to delete a supportive message for the President:

Thank You President Bush for continuing to stand up for our soldiers - unlike these weak-knee'd liberals that continually provide aid and comfort to our enemies.

Perhaps Bin Laden in his upcoming video will help guide the American people in knowing which democratic candidate he and his fellow terrorists support.

Barbara Antonsson, Pasadena, CA   September 6th, 2007 7:24 pm ET

David, Silver Spring, MD   September 6th, 2007 7:24 pm ET

Dubya: It's only been 4 years. It's still good! It's still good!

Dubya: There's only been a couple thousand U.S. casualties! It's still good! It's still good!

Dubya: There's only been millions of innocent Iraqis displaced! It's still good! It's still good!

Dubya: Iraq has gone into economic, social, and political turmoil! It's still good! It's still good!

Dubya: Our foreign policy has gone out the window! It's still good! It's still good!

Dubya: They didn't find WMDs! It's still good! It's still good!

Dubya: We didn't find any links to Al Qaeda! It's still good! It's still good!

U.S.: Come on Dubya … just give it up … it's gone.

Dubya: Aww …

Chris Haynes, Winston-Salem, NC   September 6th, 2007 7:29 pm ET

Hey Ed, kissing the left's "ignorant" ass? Shouldn't that term be reserved for the party and individuals who believe a quagmire is "kicking ass"? Oh, big, bad Texas guy; are you afraid to leave a name, or are you too busy kicking your girlfriend's ass?

D.R., East Windsor, NJ   September 6th, 2007 7:29 pm ET

Any morning now we will wake up and see that "The Decider" has decided to "Kick Ass" in Iran next even though the IAEC has repeatedly stated that Iran is in FULL COMPLIANCE with their mandates and the NPT, which Israel, with their 200 nukes, will not even sign! This regime LIED to the world some months back in stating that weapons grade uranium had been found in Iran; we were soon sorely chastised and the world was reminded that Iran's SMALL AMOUNT of uranium was the 3.5% used for power plants….like the one the US gave to the Shah when he was our puppet terrorizing his people. The US and the world are fodder for this simpleton's ego. Impeach him AND Cheney!

Debra, Takoma Park, MD   September 6th, 2007 7:34 pm ET

WHAT PLANET IS THIS MAN LIVING ON. NOT THE EARTH

SGT Drew Bartow, FOB Loyalty, Iraq   September 6th, 2007 7:35 pm ET

I am reading this story and for some odd reason I clicked comments, just to see what uninformed people would say. I glanced at their comments and where they are from, Oakland, CA, Germantown, TN and my personal favorite, Anonymous. Not one person from Baghdad, or anywhere in Iraq. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT DOES ON HERE ON A DAILY BASIS? I have yet to see anyone in the media report on the thousands of humanitarian aid projects and reconstruction projects that are going on all over this country. Because of the sweat, blood and ultimate sacrifices of my brothers and sisters in arms, Iraqi people in my area of operations for the FIRST TIME IN THEIR LIFE, have clean, potable drinking water, we curbed a typhoid outbreak because of this, saving how many lives we will never know. We have built schools so children have a clean and safe place to study and learn and become productive members of Iraqi society. We have built health care clinics, helped restore market centers and commerce areas, we are making progress and inroads to security and ridding the area of insurgents and terrorists. It is easy to be arm chair quarterback when you have not sacrificed anything and still want to call yourselves American. You complain to be embarrassed or disgraced, why? Because of what one man says? I understand most of you could not dream of doing what we do for a living. It would be inconceivable to think you could leave your BMW’s and Mercedes Benz’s up for an armored troop carrier. It would be utterly devastating to have to give up tee times and golf clubs for body armor and weapons. And no one would volunteer to give up their air-conditioned office with a corner view, with a 15 foot walk to the water cooler, to work in 120 degree heat, with 80+ lbs of gear and equipment and have to walk for 4-6 hours out on a foot patrol.
I leave at home 5 children, I have missed my daughters first and last day of Kindergarten, her first day of first grade, birthdays, my wedding anniversary, holidays and so forth. I put my life on the line everyday. I strap on 80+ lbs of body armor and gear to do my job in temperatures above 120 degrees, there is not a day where I wake up and think “Oh I think I will call in sick today”. I am making a difference in people's lives, be it a new soccer ball to a child, school supplies, a bag of candy or a stuffed toy to a child who lives in a "house" made of mud and scrap metal, who has no food, running water or electricity, we are kicking ass, I can say it, I see it, I live it. You look into a father’s eyes and see the tears well up because you stopped and took care of his child, you see that smile on a child’s face because now they have a little something of their very own. Instead of lambasting the POTUS or politicians, each and every one of you should be sending a Thank You card to a soldier stationed overseas, who day in and day out, are putting their life in harms way so you can sit in your air conditioned, 3 bedroom, split level house with big screen tv and show that you know absolutely nothing of what we are doing over here. Be sure to ask for seconds on the kool aid when the media cuts to commercial break.
Ignorant comments like the how many soldiers have died, for what? The numbers do not matter. The only thing that matters is that someone other than you, put their life on hold, put what means the most in their life on hold, to uphold the most basic value in American society, freedom. We ensure everyday that Iraqis are one step closer to knowing what freedom is, so one day they too can criticize their government and leaders without fear of “political re-education”. Sleep well tonight America, we will stand watch for you.

He's right of course- we have been kicking ass. In fact we've been kicking ass since we went in. And what good has it done us??? If we had a leader who realized there's more to foreign affairs than just ass kicking we might have spent some time on rational planning for the post-war occupation. But noooo- we have a President who thought (and evidently still does) all we had to do was kick ass, and everything would then take care of itself.

Here in America, before police recruits get to carry a gun and serve the public, their intelligence is tested, their physical ability is tested and their psychological stability and suitability is evaluated. So why is it that here in America, we allow the trigger of the most powerful weapon on the planet to fall under the finger of a person whose most outstanding qualifications seem to be their political connections and the amount of money in the "Family's" bank account? Who are we calling stupid?

I love how people rattle off about GW killing thousands upon thousands of American men and women, when you actually have no clue what you're talking about.

So far, approx. 3750 members of our armed forces have been killed, and another 300 coalition forces (non-US.)

Compare that to the nearly 60,000 that died in Veitnam. Or how about the 3000 civilians that were murdered in one morning, six years ago in New York.

We absolutely are kicking ass, and while some of you may scoff at such vulgarities… I've got news for you, war is a vulgar business.

Al-Qeada and their murderous operatives who have attacked us and can't wait to attack us again, are dying by the tens of thousands each year. We are denying them safe-havens in the middle-east. While Slick willy clinton was getting a BJ, Al-Qeada was planning 9/11, but with this president, we're not GOING TO BOW DOWN TO TERRORISTS LIKE WE DID WITH THE USS COLE, THE AFRICAN EMBASSY BOMBINGS, THE 93 WTC BOMBING, THIS PRESIDENT AND THIS COUNTRY'S ARMED FORCES ARE KICKING THE TERRORISTS ASSES. HE IS NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT AND NEITHER AM I!

The only problem is, liberals want the US to fail to spite Bush. The run on the soapbox of surrender and blame america first. But not this president, he's not afraid to hurt the terrorist's feelings.

YEAH GWB, THIS IS WHY I VOTED FOR YOU!!!

I crack up when you try to censor mild expletives like sh-t. I mean why the hypocrisy? The media televises things much worse every day, then you make a huge deal over very mild words like those. I think it's because you hate the president so much, that you are grasping at every little thing you can to try and make him look bad.

Granted, he has done some things that were in poor taste and lacking in good judgment, but haven't we all.

I'm only seventeen and taking Honors Government. I can only say that the 1 that needs kicking ass is u. We should improve our country first and then worry about fixing others.

"We're "kicking ass" in Iraq"…. ?
That sounds like that lame-brained "bring it on" statement. I am embarrassed that a leader of our country would act so un-professional and so un-presidential. Why aren't we using all of our great military might to pursue the REAL terrorist, bin Laden? OMG, is it time for the next President to take office Y E T ????

"Where were you in Vietnam…W…you were kissing ass then…weren't you?" Posted By Keith Guice Franklin, Tn : September 6, 2007 6:48 pm

Where were you, Keith? Or if you were born too late for Viet Nam, are you in military service now? On leave from Iraq perhaps? If you have not worn the uniform yourself, you have no right to ask others to display patriotism that you yourself have not shown.

Bush and I are the same age. In my effort to stay out of Viet Nam, I tried to join the National Guard too, but the wait
