One of the most excruciating and frustrating realities, quite real to non-Americans, is the possible fact that Osama bin Laden, as he now exists, remains nothing but a manufactured image, packaged, fuelled and in essence constructed by an alarmist media. It is quite something when the wealthiest nation on earth, which also houses dubious achievements in literacy and medical standards, accepts sound-bites and casual images as proof of a credible threat to their country and people. Has anyone watched any one of these so called Osama bin Laden videos? Are the unedited versions of these video messages available to just anyone? Are you sure this is not some actor pretending to be someone we're not even sure existed in the first place or at least in the incarnations attested to by the American intelligence machine? No wonder the world despises this country. And, nothing anyone can say changes people's minds. Trust me, I have visited 15 countries and dozens of cities, villages and towns in the past two years and America is despised. Osama bin Laden t-shirts are quite common in moderate Islamic countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia and no one believe any of the rhetoric around Terror and Terrorism because at least 4 billion people view the so called terrorists as freedom fighters who history will vindicate in the way the ANC has been in South Africa.
But none of what I have said is anything new. There are those Americans who will work hard to change international perceptions of America because these people recognize that we do indeed share a planet. But, the majority, who can't even find Burma/Myanmar on the map, will continue only caring about one thing, "kicking ass."

I have said this before and I'm saying it again. As long as George W. is president Bin Laden will not be killed. If Al Gore or John Kerry would have been elected, Bin Laden would be dead today. If they can find Saddam Hussein in a hole dug in someones back yard they can find bin Laden. Robert of Hollywood

Bin Laden is probably sitting back in a Lazy boy chair in Downtown Washington watching himself on CNN. Just my guess since no one else can find the guy. Our media gives a video from this guy first hand coverage. I personally could care less about what Bin Laden has to say. If he had any guts he would be out in the open but as we all know this guy hides in caves and has an army of body guards. There is the to often news stories that the guy has died but this cat with more than 9 lives does unfortunately live on each time. His time is coming. We will get him.

After reading 94 comments, it seems that six years of hindsight is providing 20/20 vision. (at least for about 70% of us). But the point is... now that it is getting harder to scare the public, EXPECT an attack to put is back in place....

Nice list, Henry. I see you posted it twice, just to make sure it got the eyeballs.

You know it reminds me of the list of hijackers that was miraculously provided within hours of the 9/11 events, though not a single Muslim name appeared on any of the flight manifests on any of the hijacked aircraft. CNN posted those manifests at:
cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/victims/AA11.victims.html
cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/victims/AA77.victims.html
cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/victims/ua175.victims.html
cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/victims/ua93.victims.html

Remarkable how quickly the FBI found the names after being so totally clueless up to the events themselves.

Remarkable also how seven of the supposed hijackers have been shown to be still alive. (See, for example, http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/hijackers_flt_11.html )

One of them, Satam M.A. Al Suqami, was believed to be aboard the first plane to hit the WTC. Although the "indestructible" black boxes were "never found", remarkably, Al Suqami's passport fluttered safely to the sidewalk, thus <i>proving</i> he was on board.

Don't you love lists?

I like most Americans would love to see the US Military capture Osama Bin Laden, but I like most Americans realize that he is just a figure head.In actuality President Bush has bested and imprisoned Osama because he left him imprisoned in his little desert caves and holes which can't possibly be better than the luxurious prison surroundings we'd have to place him in should we capture him.Political correctness would have us sick at the lifestyle we'd be forced to provide. I like having Osama run and hide like the little coward he is.His endless FEAR of being captured by US Forces is comforting to me.FEAR is a terrible thing and Osama is clearly filled with it. Way to go President Bush!!

Has anyone thought of the possibility that Bush and Co. are making these tapes, from old tapes of OBL? It wouldn't surprise me in the least. They seem to come when it's politically expedient for Bush. He's lied before. Shy should we expect him to tell the truth now?

I’m calling it this time. I am calling this complete bs on the new video coming soon to a theater near you. Complete Bush Administration propaganda bs. How is it that the most wanted man can get his video to Al Jazeera w/o being caught by us? Wouldn’t we have CIA folks crawling all over the news sources offices, undercover CIA posing as editors, authors, and camera men and following them where all the newspapers writers and investigators go? Doesn’t it amaze anyone that Al Jazeera can find this guy but we can’t?

I have too much doubt now, that the video which is in the hands of the white house as we speak (they apparently got the DVD release before it is released to the rest of the world) is fabricated from people within our government. Why am I suspicious to do this? It is because we have no good reasons to continue the so-called “pseudo war on terror”. This administration needs to scare the American public with this kind of fear mongering propaganda to continue this war and continue all of their war profiteering.

If we just let go of the fears (like this) that have been created for us, then we would see and understand that we have nothing to fear. No fear, no loss of liberty, and no need for additional security.

The Bush administraton does NOT want to capture or kill bin Laden, the boogeyman used to justify the 'war on terror'. If bin Laden were captured or killed it would be the end of the story, the achievement of a goal. The war on terror would lose support and end the gravy train upon which Bush's cronies make gluttons of themselves.

Bin laden is dead.

he is on kidney dialysis, Musharraf and the bush administration admit it.
how can you run a machine like that in a cave!? he would need medical supplies and electricity which would be traceable. Why dont we ask why Bin laden was allowed to leave Tora Bora in 2001-2002? Musharraf and the bush administration admit it. its on CNN!

That makes sense considering Osama Bin Laden is dead. Osama bin Laden is dead. The news first came from sources in Afghanistan and Pakistan a few years back: the fugitive died in December [2001] and was buried in the mountains of southeast Afghanistan. Pakistan's president, Pervez Musharraf, echoed the information. The remnants of Osama's gang, however, have mostly stayed silent, either to keep Osama's ghost alive or because they have no means of communication

Bin Laden is in Pakistan, we all know that. But if we were to take him out, that is, if the secular Pakistani government were to give him up, then we could see civil war in Pakistan... is it worth it?

If bush captures bin ladin, the war is finished. So why should he want to do that? His family is invested heavily in the war industry and cheney makes his money from halliburton. Nuf said.

The worst thing that could happen to this administration would be to catch this guy because then the truth about govt complicity in 911 would come out. I guarantee they are not looking for him and would not take him if he walked in the front door of the white house. After all it is common knowledge that he was in a US govt hospital for dialysis just after 911 - so why didnt they act then. As for some alleged new tape of him you in the press are not doing your jobs if you accept it as authentic - more US govt propaganda

Al Cia Duh. People are too dumb to see between the lines by daily propagenda by Fox, Abc, Nbc, Cnn. Talking heads babbling on about non issues. Mr. Bin Laden is probably dead and had not a single thing to do with 911. 7 of the supposed hi jackers are still alive??? wtc building 7 wasnt even hit by a plane and it crumble in on itself in record time. Larry Silverstein the own of wtc7 had it "pulled" meaning demolished. That was one quick demo job. Hmmm. how many cameras were point at the Pentagon?? More than a handle full one would think and all we the public get is a few grainy frames of "something" hitting the building and it none of those clips there isnt even a full object to see hit it. We need to wake up or Waco. Time for a revolution I dare say. This administration is getting us nowhere fast. Wake up people.

This, if nothing else, is an indictment of the failed presidency of George W. Bush.

He let Iraq distract him from the real enemy. After spending four plus fruitless years in Iraq, hundreds of billions of dollars, the lives of over 3,500 men and women and creating a national deficit that our kids will have to pay off, all we have in return is to be embarrassed in front of the whole world by bin Laden.

Thanks Mr. President.

Bush has said he's not concerned about finding bin Laden, and the search to track him down was disbanded some time ago. So no...we won't catch him because we're not looking for him. Google it...it's in the mainstream news.

OBL pops up and everyone is in a frenzy. Both Presidents blew it when going after him.

More importantly this week, 2 muslim extremists were captured in Florida with pipe bombs near the Navy base and in Germany 3 muslim extremists were captured before they could follow threw with their plans to blow up US installations.

Old ugly crawls out from his cave or puts out an old video and these other stories are glossed over or like the FLORIDA one NOT REPORTED.

I know, it's just a bumper sticker.

Seems to me the clearest statement by any candidate on trying to capture or kill Bin Laden was by Barack Obama. He thinks that if we get Bin Laden in our sights in the thinly populated western provinces of Pakistan, we should pull the trigger. Hopefully, with the blessing of Pakistan, but if for some reason they don't agree, Obama thinks we should go in anyway to take Bin Laden out. I agree with Obama. Any one here disagree that we should take Bin Laden out whether Pakistan agrees with it or not? Please, I want to know how many disagree with me.

Clinton apparently disagrees with this OR maybe she disagrees we should say it because actually saying what your beliefs and policies are is somehow a weakness. I personally think stating your beliefs and policies clearly is an act of confidence and leadership. Can some Clinton fan explain to me how clearly stating this policy is destabilizing to Pakistan? If Pakistan is so unstable, shouldn't we already be preparing to face the islamic radical Pakistan that is likely to come? Or maybe Pakistan is fairly stable and making our policy clear is going make communications more reliable down the road.

Clinton also dissed Obama for taking nukes off the table for use in Pakistan. So Clinton WOULD use nuclear weapons to kill Bin Laden in Pakistan? OR is she saying again we shouldn't tell the truth because we're afraid of the consequences? Is there anyone here who would EVER support the use of nuclear weapons in Pakistan to kill Bin Laden under ANY circumstance? Can Clinton supporters explain her logic here?

Here's the sad truth. Does it really matter if we catch him? There are already hundreds of other boys in training in Pakistan to be the next Bin Laden. Invading Iraq and creating more extremists didn't help either..it made the problem worse.

I wonder, if we did get him, how would the "Hate Bush" movement respond?

I still have hope that we will get him.

ThirstyJon

We'll respond by saying "Gosh, we were wrong in saying that the incompetent bumbling clowns in the White house would never get the guy; in fact, it only took them eight years. So sorry. Our mistake. Who knew?"

But that's just a theory, because they'll never catch him. They don't <i>want</i> to catch him. He's so much more useful as the boogeyman in the closet; all they have to do is say "if you don't give us all the money we want and shut up with your questions and criticisms, Osama will come in the night and eat you all up," and all the sheep will just say "Oh no, Mr. President, please protect me from the bad bad man." Why would they want to turn a huge asset like that into just another prisoner at Gitmo?

Honestly, it doesn't matter what Al-Qaida puts out there. Obama has been dead for a while now. The U.S. doesn't wanna look too over-confident so they won't admit it, and the coward terrorists(or terrucos as we call them in Peru) want people to think Bin Laden has out-run the U.S. military. The real news is, Bin Laden has been dead for a long time that's why Al-Qaida needs other ways of getting cash and resources. Terrucos are a bunch of cowards that kill innocent people. They're no freedom fighters or defenders of their religion, they're just a bunch of cowards. And the way to solve that problem is by exterminating them as we did in Peru. They're like weed, you leave some alive and next thing you know, they're back at it again.

What's wrong with this picture? Bush says we're "kicking ass" in a war on a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, while in a few days on the anniversary of 9/11, Osama bin Laden is giving us his State of the Union Address. This totally stinks! Maybe we haven't found OBL because his family is rich and well-connected, just like Bush's.

Bin Laden was hired by certain government officials to be the 'face' of terrorism. He was paid-off to take the blame for 9-11, and stayed low while the Americans handled Saddam. He, and the rest of his gang are probably sitting behind a high-speed T-1 internet connection on a network of iMacs in a really big house with curtains in the windows so you cant see in. Even if Bin is brought forward to the public, the world would not be any less dangerous (like we learned with Saddam) and oil would still be expensive.

The US could obvioulsly kill/capture Bin Laden. They are not willing to do so because it would upset Pakistand where Bin Laden lives. Why anyone cares what those stone age people in the provinces cares or thinks is beyond me.

You all need to read the 9/11 Commission Report. It shows quite plainly how bureaucratic BS, not due necessarily to Clinton (because Clinton wanted OBL dead), prevented US forces from killing OBL multiple times. This is a problem with government as a whole not any particular political party. What is a problem is that, instead of focusing on catching OBL, Bush pulled troops away in order to invade Iraq. So now OBL just isn't a priority compared to the horrendous mess we have there now. It will probably take another massive loss of life on American soil to wake the government up again...

Why would Bush capture Bin Laden? They're the two faces of the same coin. They need each other. Bushs need Bin Laden to continue his wars against wrong enemies and Bin Laden needs Bush to fuel hatred for America in the middle east. The perfect match... made in hell.

Bin Laden is irrelevant. Much like the celebrity idols that liberals like to worship, his face draws a strong reaction due to his notoriety but, overall, he is no longer significant. Would I like to see him captured or killed? Sure. Until then he can stay hidden and ineffective in his cave where he belongs.

"If a Democrat is elected to the White House - 100% gaurantee OBL will avoid capture. Clinton didn't want him when he was offered up years ago. Why would Hillary do anything different than her husband?"

THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULDN'T VOTE FOR HER BUDDY, VOTE FOR OBAMA BECAUSE HE ACTUALLY WANTS TO GET BIN LADEN. THE REPUBLICANS WILL KEEP TRYING TO CONVINCE YOU AL QUEDA IS IN IRAQ, WHICH IS A REDICULOUS NOTION, AND HILARY DOESN'T HAVE A SINGLE ORIGINAL THOUGHT OF HER OWN. OBAMA HAS ACTUALLY SAID HE WANTS TO FIND BIN LADEN.

Bush's brain reads Bin Laden = Iraq. Plain and simple. The who, what, when, where, and why do not matter anymore to him. This was a poor excuse to go after Iraq after 9/11 to clean up elder Bushes mess from 17 years ago. We should have finished it then. But now we poorly connect Bin Laden to Iraq to justify this mess! Meanwhile, Bin Laden could be on a beach drinking a pina colada or dead of old age. Good job! Lets bring our men and women serving home. We need to secure our own borders and truly protect our future here.

It's just sad that we have never caught him, especially knowing that we have had numerous chances in the past. I will never forgive this country for ALLOWING him to escape. A real American Tragedy. And Bush and Clinton, and The White House, and a lot of Congress doesn't even give a crap about the people who's lives and families will forever be changed by the biggest blunder in American history. Yes, we are living through it, ain't it grand?

Our administration is UNWILLING to catch Osama Bin Laden..they diverted resources from that endeavour to attack Iraq instead,a country that was not involved in 9/11 no matter how often the White House claims it. Just remember that northern Afghanistan does not have oil, while Iraq does.

Hopefully CNN won't delete this comment a second time. My first post called to task those that made the following comments:

<b>"What has your boy GW done in the EIGHT YEARS he has had to catch OBL? NOTHING!"</b>

and;

<b>"President Bush and the Republicans are going on 8 years"</b>

I simply pointed to the fact that, if we are to believe assertions and claims in these posts, how much credence can we put in them if the author cannot grasp simple concepts like addition or subtraction?

I remember the first WTC bombings, by my calculations, they happened 14 years ago.

8 years ago, it was 1999 (hint: 2007 - 8 = 1999).

President Bush was sworn into office in 2001. Once again, 2007 - 2001 = 6. Since it is September, it would be 6.75 yrs. Granted it may seem like longer, but since the posts fail on such a simple level, one must ask if the poster is expressing their own opinion or just parroting something they heard in an attempt to pile-on and 'score some points'?

If you aren't aware of how long the current administration has been around, how can we take seriously the far more complicated details expressed in your posts?

There is no political advantage in catching Bin Laden. As long as he is out there, politicians can point to him and play the fear card to manipulate the masses and feed the military-industrial complex. We will always have an enemy they can use. Russia has played out, so it's Bin Laden's turn. They don't want to see him caught.

Actually, Henry Tucker, if a Dem is elected, they will find BinLaden because they actually want to find and stop him. Unlike the GOP leaders who prefer having a boogy man around to scare cowards like you into surrending your rights and turning our republic, which I put my life on the line for for over six years, into a dictatorship. Clinton's policies caught the conspirators of the first WTC bombing and stopped the millenium bombings from ever happening. Dubya's refusal to read a two page PDB contributed to 911 happening.

<i>I wonder, if we did get him, how would the "Hate Bush" movement respond?

I still have hope that we will get him.</i>

You don't have to worry about that. Bush disbanded the team searching for OBL a long time ago. It was well documented.

If you ask me, they've already got Bin Laden! He's in some secret prison in the middle of the desert somewhere eating 3 good meals a day in a nice a/c cell. So come about...oh... October of 2008 they'll stage some heroic scene with guns a' blazin' and "capture" him. This will rocket the Republicans to the top of the polls because they are "tough on terror" and the Republican candidate will win the election. Yes! The Repubs win!! Victory! All carefully planned out by Rove down in Texas! Now...unlikely scenario...but, it would not surprise me one bit given the record of corruption of this wonderful slimey Republican party.

People! He's already been captured, and is being held in the White House basement. If he's caught, then the rethuglicans loose one of their reasons for waging war in the middle east so their hiding him for just the right moment. And, if things go sour for the rethuglicans in the days leading up to the 2008 election, guess who's going to be roled out of the basement and displayed on TV as having been just caught?
