WASHINGTON (CNN) – Portraying himself as the only candidate that can bring change to Washington, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, released a new television ad Wednesday.

"I approve this message to ask you to believe - not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington," says Obama in the ad. "I'm asking you to believe in yours."

Obama, who has promised not to take money from lobbyists, has said he will work to reduce the influence of special interest groups on lawmakers. He continues to promote that idea in his ad.

"Every time I speak about my hope for America, the cynics in Washington roll their eyes," Obama says. "You see, they don't believe we can actually change politics and bring an end to decades of division and deadlock. They don't believe we can limit the power of lobbyists who block our progress, or that we can trust the American people with the truth."

The ad starts running in Iowa Wednesday.

GO GO GO Obama!!!! OBAMA'08!!!

Ron Nebraska   September 20th, 2007 9:40 pm ET

I sincerely hope this country does not miss its' chance to regain it's sanity and position in the world under the leadership of Barack Obama.

Until the american people pay for the elections nothing will change. When exxon pays a politition the bill is passed on to you. You pay, they benefit. Same amount incumbent/ challenger. No outside or personal money. You want democracy? Pay for it!!!!

A flat tax is the very definition of "unfair." Instead of basing the tax rate on taxpayers' ability to pay, it requires people in the highest and lowest tax bracket to pay the exact same percentage of their income in taxes. This, although Bill Gates and I value/need/use 20% of our respective incomes very differently. A flat tax is a HUGE tax break for the wealthy.

Re: Mary, Pasadena CA
Ahem, someone has to undo what Bush did whilst in the Oval Office i.e. give the rich beneficial tax breaks....

Overall a flat tax sounds fair....

Mary, Pasadena CA   September 19th, 2007 5:30 pm ET

Dan is right–a flat tax is the fairest. Those who make more pay more and tose who make less pay less. If taxes are increased, those who make more end up paying more. If taxes are reduced, those who have paid more get a bigger break. How is that not fair? To do otherwise is to penalize hard working successful people who have realized the American dream, only to have someone like Obama tell them they are undeserving because others, due primarily to their poor choices,(such aas giving birth when unwed and unable to afford it, taking drugs, not staying in school)are earing minimum wage. Keep in mind that those "successful" people who are paying all the taxes don't get much of the government benefit either.

Jeff Spangler, Arlington.
Can't you differentiate what CNN has written in the article from what Obama's ad says, which is in quotations? CNN wrote the "The only candidate that can bring change to Washington" not Obama.

Politicians can hope and speculate this or that, but its a different story when they get in office.

The changes in Washington that Sen. Obama is talking about are vitally important. I think about my grandchildren and generations to come who will more than ever need a government that represents the people and not only special interest groups. I pray that all Americans seriously consider what's at stake when we go to the polls.

GO FOR IT OBAMA

John Thomas, Edina, MN   September 19th, 2007 4:01 pm ET

Gotta love all you people eating up Obama's crap. Change this, change that... shut up and tell me how! Oh, and Obama isn't as great of a guy as you all have been brainwashed to believe–he's corrupt just like the rest of the political scum in Washington. Every single candidate has BIG skeletons in their closet, other than Ron Paul. I dare you to find any dirt on him.

Jeannie, Sacramento, CA   September 19th, 2007 4:00 pm ET

I believe him! Let's envision a Washington that doesn't depend on lobbyist money for its operations, that isn't afraid of an in-your-face confrontation with any party that tramples on the Constitution, that isn't afraid to ask the wealthy to give up a few bucks so the poor can enjoy the same benefits the rich have, that is ready to build up the US instead of a foreign country, and a government that's for the people, of the people, and by the people! When was the last time we've seen this kind of leadership?

Darrius, AR   September 19th, 2007 3:40 pm ET

If George W. Bush has taught me one thing, it is that it matters who the President is.

A first-term President can get any single policy passed no matter how unpopular it is at the beginning. He can make it popular, and he can get it passed.

Presidents can make major policy changes to the way America does business that last for decades or even century. Take George B. Bush as an example. He has taken unpopular and committed us to it for at least 10 years after his Presidency. Franklin Roosevelt started Social Security 50 years ago. Bill Clinton's NAFTA has had the country exporting jobs for 10 years and it is still running strong.

If this tax plan is Obama's main agenda upon becoming President he can get it done as long as it is physically possible for us to do it.

Anonymous   September 19th, 2007 3:30 pm ET

Have you people actually looked into Obama's FEC filings?? Barack Obama has just as many lobbyists and special interests backing him as all the other so-called "front runners." Barack Obama's campaign has been funded by the Rockefellers, the banking institutions, and AIPAC. Don't listen to him when he claims that he is being supported by the "average working American." There is only ONE candidate whose campaign is 98.5% funded by individual contributors – and half of them less than $200. Go to FEC.gov and do some research before claiming Mr. Obama is untouched by special interests. Mr. Obama is a creation of these groups, and no one had even heard of the man before they made him their patsy.

J Champaign, IL   September 19th, 2007 3:09 pm ET

I'm happy to see Obama doing something productive instead of responding to Jesse's comments.

J Houston, TX   September 19th, 2007 2:40 pm ET

Won't happen. Pooled money weighs in to win. But as all things with economics, there will be a backlash as time goes on. You think moveon.org is a good thing? Wait until a conservative equivalent rises.

Obama has no plans but frankly can't. He pretty much as to declare dictatorship and oust Washington and start over if he wants to do what he intends.

Andrew, Niagara Falls, NY   September 19th, 2007 1:41 pm ET

While I think that Obama is honest and really wants to bring about change...I wonder what he actually means by these statements. I think this primary has had quite a few hotair statements of 'change' and 'experience' when there is no substance behind such claims.. Obama, Clinton, and Edwards *really* need to tell the American people their plans, with substance and detail for people to know what the heck they actually stand for... Anyone other than Bush would technically be 'a change', lets put some meaning behind the rhetoric.

Ron, TX   September 19th, 2007 1:33 pm ET

"Don't ever trust to a Politician who promises you the world and can't detail a single reason how he can make it happen."

I agree. Fortunately, Obama is the only politician that has released detailed plans for everything he plans to do. As far as experience- Obama is the only candidate with experience changing Washington. Ethics reform, governmental transparency, and rejecting lobbyists are all changes Obama has experience doing. The same can't be said for the democratic "poll-frontrunner".

Anon   September 19th, 2007 1:30 pm ET

Jeff from VA

You may not care for Obama and that is fine with me; your welcome to choose your candidate whom ever that is. Of course everyone running for president is talking about change, it happens during every election cycle. Obama's message is about minimizing the power that special intrests have over American politics (both sides of the political system).

But what do you think about the lobbyist and special interest groups?
Do you think that they hold too much sway over our current political system?

That is what Obama's main message is about.

w19 CA   September 19th, 2007 1:27 pm ET

Anonymus does not get it. Obama does not promise to deliver change; Obama is asking Anonymus to change.

Jessica, Wisconsin   September 19th, 2007 1:09 pm ET

Why don't you post a link to the ad or actually put it up here so people can see it.

Mike, Cleveland, Ohio   September 19th, 2007 1:06 pm ET

Outlaw/ban lobbyist and special interest groups everywhere. Our elected officials in Washington and our state capitols need to go back to basics; start listening to the real American public again. When that is done, we can start having a real discussion about our country's policies.

excellent comercial there is also a user generated comercial on youtube called the "Quality of Judgement" which features the worst picture of Hillary – check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq54KoIgf6E

"Change, change... it's time we change America!" "Trust in me!" "I'll tell you the truth!" "Real change, not that fake kind of change!" "I support sunshine, babies, happiness, and America!"

Don't ever trust to a Politician who promises you the world and can't detail a single reason how he can make it happen. Yeah – i'd like affordable healthcare, no war, no taxes... the same as anyone else. But just because you claim you can change things over and over again, doesn't make it true. Where's the candidate with the record to back up those promises?

Jeff Spangler, Arlington, VA   September 19th, 2007 12:34 pm ET

"The only candidate that can bring change to Washington"?! This arrogant hyperbole alone demonstrates the unfitness of this unelectable frontrunner for office.

John, Des Moines, Iowa   September 19th, 2007 12:29 pm ET

Not only will Obama win Iowa, Tom Harkin, but then he's gonna go to Texas and Washington state, and then to Vermont, and to Delaware, and to Florida, and Georgia, and then he's going to take back over the White House for Democrats!!! Yaaarrrrrr! Just adding a little humor to the comments section, but seriously, I'm looking for change and I think this is the guy for me. Obama '08 and '12!!

KJ, Sacramento, CA   September 19th, 2007 12:25 pm ET

It is time, as Americans, to take a chance. To give Obama the benefit of the doubt that he means what he says. As someone who has had the pleasure of meeting Obama several times, I know that he does. But, for those who haven't – it is a leap of faith I know. Can you imagine how awesome our country will be again if Obama's ideologies are put into action? Throw the cyncism out the window and take a chance one last time. Positiveness in our government again and a President who believes in and listens to the American public – there is something that I want!

Common Sense   September 19th, 2007 12:23 pm ET

You are bringing me hope Barack. Hope that I have not experienced once in my entire life regarding American Politics until you came along. Our political system is broken and I feel that Obama is the only one that actually wants to TRY to fix it. With all the talk of Internationl Experience and how much Hilary claims to have, which we all know isn't true in the slightest; we need to fix the problems at home as well, and no one else seems to think there is a problem.

Jon G. Paris, TX   September 19th, 2007 12:23 pm ET

Keep up the great job, Barack!

Obama '08!

Scott, Fort Lauderdale, FL   September 19th, 2007 12:22 pm ET

If everyone did their research on Obama he would be dominating in the national and local polls. This mans life is an open book, educate yourself for the good of our nations future.

We can change, we can improve.
