Clinton: I am not a lesbian

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. Hillary Clinton's sexuality is not the most pressing issue on the presidential campaign trail, but it is likely to get a fair amount of attention on a lazy Friday in the nation’s capital.

The Advocate asked Clinton about past rumors that she is gay.

The New York Democrat tells “The Advocate” that she is not a lesbian, according to a story in Friday’s edition of The New York Daily News.

"It's not true, but it is something that I have no control over," Clinton tells the magazine in a story set for publication next week.

“People will say what they want to say," she added.

The comments came in response to a question posed by Sean Kennedy, an editor of the Advocate: "How do you respond to the occasional rumor that you're a lesbian?"

Kennedy tells CNN he asked Clinton about the rumors because "they are a point of solidarity between her and the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community."

"Because her political opponents, and others, have used the word 'lesbian' to hurt her personally and politically, she knows first hand the stigma associated with homosexuality just as gay people do," Kennedy said. "She did not seem surprised by the question in the least and responded like the experienced politician she is."

The interview was conducted immediately after last month's Human Rights Campaign presidential forum.

UPDATE: The Advocate has published the full article on its Web site

the only reason men think she's a lesbian is because she's smarter and more successful than most of them will ever be.

Why is CNN even posting this story if it's not a story? Is CNN part of the plot to make it a story?

Just read these posts (and any other responses on this site) and it becomes quickly apparent that the GOP is in deep deep panic.
They are attacking Hillary because they genuinely 'hate' her. Why?
Ask a republican and try and pin them down on subsatantive, fact based debate on exactly what she has done policy-wise to rise to the level of their 'hate'for her. Once you get into specifics, they have nothing on her except personal feelings and petty fallacies.
They want her to win the dem nomination because they think that is the only chance they have to win the WH. They may not even be right about that either.
They are trashing her health care plan which is a revised version of a GOP plan floated in '93 to counter her plan. So if you Republicans want to call it 'Socialized Medicine', 'Communism' or any other non-substantive hype, then you ought to look at your own party's image in the mirror. Because 15 years ago, you were all for it! It was your answer to 'Hillary Care'...remember?
    W
omen likely hold the key to this election. To be honest Its the White Males who 'hate' her who she will never get the vote from, but women are watching and their comes a point, regradless of whether you are for Hillary or against her, where women start taking offense to bashing Hillary because after a while, it sounds like bashing women. So keep on keeping on with that, GOP. Eventually it will backfire.
Meanwhile, coming up is Obama, the worst fear of all for the GOP. A fresh face, with fresh ideas and an aura of change. The more you concentrate on Hillary, the more Obama is allowed to rise above it all. Im cool either way. Bash Hillary and elevate Obama or bash Obama and let Hillary continue her centrist stride. We win either way!

Who cares anyway! Is anyone saying that if you are a Lesbian, you can't run a country? If she can end the war in Iraq, keep social security as it is, have healthcare insurance for all that can't afford it, keep America strong, get us back to No. 1 in the world, and get Osama Bin Laden for his attack on us on 9/11, she has my vote. Being straight or gay should play no role on who our next President should be.

Yes, this is totally true. Furthermore, she was also surrogate for John McCain's "black baby."

Are you kidding me now? Why is this news, WHO CARES, does someone think she will do a better job is she is or isn't? I honestly cannot believe some of the editorials I read and "so called" news issues. I personnally will not vote for her one way or the other, but I truly feel that ones sexual orientation is worth wondering in this case, unless you are breaking the law. However, what does that matter anymore anyhow? If one has a lot of money or in power somehow they think we are all idiots and will believe anything and the same laws don't apply to us. Take Larry Craig, I have had to adjust my position on many public restroom seats and not once did it require me reaching my hand under the stall or playing footsies with someone. Report on news and not this stuff please, we have soldiers in harms way all over the world because our politicians cannot agree on anything. We have borders that are so open it is rediculous, yet we spent billions on space exploration rather than fix our issues at home. Start minding our own business and take care of the homeland and get your minds focused on the people that put you in office and feed you as well as provide for these very high class lifestyles you enjoy and and think is your right now instead of a job. I think when we fire a senator or representative they should loose health benefits and have to roll the retirement over into a qualified program as the common public does.

Let us judge the quality of those with hatred in their hearts by the quality of their spelling and grammar.
Take this grammatically challenged person's contention to it's conclusion and everyone would be wearing a tin-foil hat. I bet her's is very nice.

Speaking of grammatically challenged – the possessive "its" does not take an apostrophe. The apostrophe is only used in the contraction for "it is". How much hatred is in your heart, hmmm?

CNN is disengenuous once again. Ms. Clinton did not say that she is not a lesbian, but responded that "It's not true," but your headline infers that she actually said that she is not a lesbian. CNN getting as sickening as the pap coming out of the White House.

Shes no more a lesbian than George Bush is a gay man! Only people full of hate (ie. the Republican Party) would agree that shes lesbian

IF she were a Lesbian, then Hillary would not be as corrupt, and "out to please everyone". Lesbians are straightforward (no pun intended), honest, and frank.

We would be MUCH MUCH better off with a lesbian President, than the HILLarious HILLarian.

While Cnn is wasting time with this crap. The real news is when Pres. Bush made this comment and I quote," well Mandela's dead because the Saddam's of the world killed him." That is wrong on so many levels. Boy, I'm gonna miss that guy.

Come on people....ask the proper question to avoid getting a half-truth. Ask is she is a lesbian or bi-sexual???

If she likes men and women, she would not say she is a "lesbian"...be careful what and how you ask.

Maybe not, but she's also not qualified to be president. She has been a senator for 7 years, but what executive position has she ever held? Has she ever run a company, lead a non-profit agency, or even run the local dog catchers office?

First we're talking about her cleavage and now her sexuality. She is a polical figure people. Why aren't we talking about Barak's Bulge or Edwards'Erroticism. Sexism is evidently still alive and thriving in our media. Let's move on and talk about more important issues please.

There is no comparison of Sen. Craig's denial and Mrs. Clinton's denial. She didn't try to solicit sex in the bathroom of an airport. It's like comparing apples and oranges...or in this case, peaches and bananas.

"Righties think they are better than women"

    There's an intelligent statement.

Comparable to all lesbians chose to be gay.

Most of the minority groups think they are holier than thou, but, in truth, are the main perpetuators of stereotypes. Can't tell people to stop with the stereotypes out of one side of your mouth and add your own with the other side of your mouth.

Ah! Although I am not gay, why can't gay/lesbian be given a chance to be president of America if Hillary is not gay?? Why does gay too matter to America? Gay issue should not be involved in any politic or government work. The only place where gay issue is concerned and discussed for protection is a religious house such temple, church, mosque or home. Not public. Please don't bring this issue to public. Saying "I am not lesbian" is not right thing to say in public because how to get gay voters confidence in Hillary or any presidential candidate for life in America?
