Clinton: I am not a lesbian

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. Hillary Clinton's sexuality is not the most pressing issue on the presidential campaign trail, but it is likely to get a fair amount of attention on a lazy Friday in the nation’s capital.

The Advocate asked Clinton about past rumors that she is gay.

The New York Democrat tells “The Advocate” that she is not a lesbian, according to a story in Friday’s edition of The New York Daily News.

"It's not true, but it is something that I have no control over," Clinton tells the magazine in a story set for publication next week.

“People will say what they want to say," she added.

The comments came in response to a question posed by Sean Kennedy, an editor of the Advocate: "How do you respond to the occasional rumor that you're a lesbian?"

Kennedy tells CNN he asked Clinton about the rumors because "they are a point of solidarity between her and the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community."

"Because her political opponents, and others, have used the word 'lesbian' to hurt her personally and politically, she knows first hand the stigma associated with homosexuality just as gay people do," Kennedy said. "She did not seem surprised by the question in the least and responded like the experienced politician she is."

The interview was conducted immediately after last month's Human Rights Campaign presidential forum.

UPDATE: The Advocate has published the full article on its Web site

Some of these comments are maybe the dumbest things I have ever read. A lot of people have seized on the line " . . . it is something that I have no control over." That statement was, if people bothered to read the story, in reference to other comments she made about people "say[ing] what they want to say." She also said "It's not true." Of course this shouldn't matter to people anyway, but if it does matter to you, read the damn article and try to understand what it says first.

    Unbelievable.

Right after Rudy goes public with his rant about Hillary insulting General Petraeus, the Advocate which is just another Move ON Org. comes out with the Hillary is a Lesbian Story! So transparent it's laughable!

The Advocate Slam on Hillary is nothing more than a vicious Republican pay back. And if you can't see that you should take off your rose colored glasses. And all those who believe anything they hear or see in the Media should consider the source of the Hillary Attack.

And then send your hateful comments to the supposed to be specimen of Man who started this uproar.

Or his other email address: which should give you insight as to the credibility of his report

Your time and energy would be better spent disecting your current President and his ruthless band of yes men.

They should be focusing on her lack of qualifications instead. She's never been in charge of anything!

I have to agree with the Anonymous coward above who said:

Right. And Richard Nixon is not a crook, and O.J. didn't kill Nicole, and Bush has an IQ above 60.

I thought that CNN had some backbone. Obviously, if they will report this and yet say nothing about congress voting against our freedom of speech by voting to condemn those that speak out against this administration and congress and do not even report on the congress's vote to end habeas corpus this week, they are part of the problem not part of the solution!

Just check back in 5 minutes, CNN will have deleted this comment because it casts a negative image on them. Is CNN in favor of freedom of speech?

They have now deleted my last four comments to this article.

As of this posting, 441 people have responded. I make 442. I think that in itself explains why this is posted on the "Ticker". I'm not sure whether She's gay, bi, or what, but I think that if she was attracted to the same gender, that Bill would be down with that!

Good grief! The coverage of the election on this site is like watching a train wreck frame by interminable frame. Yesterday it was "Hillary's mother lives with them", today it is "Hillary is a lesbian". CNN please – get back to issues of substance. If I want this stuff I can always get the Enquirer.

Rose, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a qualified woman as president. But what has Hillary ever been in charge of? Has she ever been mayor of a city or governor of a state? Being a Senator is far different than running the executive branch.

Do you recall what happened when Bill put her in charge of health care reform early in his first term? She ttok the discussions behind closed doors (in violation of sunshine laws) and produced a huge bloated monstrosity that had no chance of becoming law. What other history do we have of her being in charge of anything?

The sad part is that the majority of these posts, even those supporting Hillary, are homophobic. Not good, especially after the racism around the Jena 6 correspondences this week. Not much tolerance out and about in the USA today.

Honestly, I always thought that she acted rather masculine, but until this article came out, it didn't cross my mind that she was a lesbian. I wouldn't be suprised if she is, though.

In reading these comments it's no wonder America has the image they have around the world!

How any American could viciously slander and condemn a Democrat Candidate with nary a fact to base their comments on is hypocrisy at it's highest level.

I'm sure some of these same people voted for George Bush twice! Yet they have the audacity to condemn Hillary Clinton! ANd to accuse her of having no experience!

Hillary has no experience? She is the most experienced Candidate in the race! Maybe you've grown too accustomed to George to recognize experience. As he is certainly lacking in more than experience. He is the sorriest excuse for a leader the world has ever witnessed. Maybe "The Decider" has been making all your decisions for so long you can't think for yourselves anymore. I don't know but I hope you all get a grip soon for the collateral good of all mankind and all Nations around the world.

I pray you find Wisdom before it's too late.

The US Dollar is worth less than the Canadian for the first time in years! Does that shed any light on the subject of US Leadership?
