Actor James Denton will be in Iowa on Saturday and Sunday.

DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) — James Denton, also known as "Mike Delfino" on the ABC series "Desperate Housewives," will campaign in Iowa this weekend on behalf of former Sen. John Edwards, D-North Carolina, the campaign announced Wednesday.

Denton will also be accompanied by the Edwards' eldest daughter, Cate, who is currently attending Harvard Law School. A campaign spokesman tells CNN that this is the first time Cate Edwards has campaigned for her father in Iowa this cycle.

The pair's tour through Iowa Saturday and Sunday will include stops in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Grinnell, Des Moines, Ames, and Indianola.

How appropriate… someone backing Edwards… yeah, I'd say that's pretty Desperate.

This dude says, "Edwards is the most straight-forward, progressive candidate out there…"

Progressive. Is that the nom du jour for "socialism" these days?

Please tell me what exactly is "progressive" about wealth confiscation and redistribution?

…to steal from successful, hardworking and shrewd individuals for the purpose of rewarding lazy deadbeats. It's like a reward for failure, or even failing to try. It's rewarding laziness, stupidity and poor decision making, and punishing drive/initiative/gumption.

Next, this Desperate Clown is going to start lecturing us about environmentalism and how we all need to "do more" to help… a message surely to be delivered from the comfort of his luxurious, air conditioned, 15,000 sq. ft., 10-bathroom Hollywood mansion.

I've never seen his show, but he shows good taste!

Maybe the GOP'd get more Hollywood endorsements if they'd stop running every Hollywood Republican they can get their hands on as a candidate. Silver/Pantoliano '12!

What's with the word "progressive" being bandied about so much lately?

All the liberal candidates are showing on the horizon is re-distribution of wealth, aka raising taxes , aka bulls##*T.

We still will have the threat of radical Islam but with a weak White House and cut in military pay, they'll for sure try 9-11 the Sequel. Not trying to scare you, but you can feel good without a feel-good President. We need a kick a** military when Ahmandinajed shows his ugly mug again, and that's what we'll get with a conservative President .

John Edwards made his millions off of junk science lawsuits. And he represents the average American? I don't think so.

laurinda,ny   September 26th, 2007 9:00 pm ET

RONNIE FROM Tenn. You seem so bitter. I guess I would be too if I had to live in Knoxville knowing that all that money was in that vault. I would be furious that Bush is giving it to Iraq when I could personally use some of it. If I were you I would write to the governor and tell him exactly how you feel. Good luck.

Julie, Atlanta, GA   September 26th, 2007 5:53 pm ET

Dylan sure knows what he's talking about (above).

"Edwards is the most straight-forward, progressive candidate out there. And he also has more specific policy initiatives than any of the candidates. He's got a lot to offer."

Too bad others are less informed but John has THE most comprehensive policies that will benefit the lives of EVERYDAY Americans. And it's about time, I say…BU$HCO is killing us.

GO JOHN GO!!!!!

Greg , ashburn VA   September 26th, 2007 4:41 pm ET

WOULD EDWARDS TAKE VP SPOT AGAIN?

Dylan, Portland, Oregon   September 26th, 2007 3:24 pm ET

Hey, maybe Desparate Housewives isn't so bad afterall. Go Denton!

Why are people shocked about him supporting Edwards? Edwards is the most straight-forward, progressive candidate out there. And he also has more specific policy initiatives than any of the candidates. He's got a lot to offer.

Pat, Huntington, ny   September 26th, 2007 3:04 pm ET

And if elected president, Edwards promises to rename Pennsylvania Ave…Wysteria Lane.

Michael Beusch, San Mateo, CA   September 26th, 2007 2:45 pm ET

"Democrats get porn stars, Hollywood libs and madams to support them. That's very telling."

Speaking of madams, I wonder how much David Vitter's charges for her services. Pot meet kettle.

Brad, Stockton, CA   September 26th, 2007 2:05 pm ET

Another "celebrity" endorsement of a candidate? What makes this celebrity's opinion any more or less important than another celebrity's, and what makes a celebrity's opinion more important than yours or mine?

Steve Elliott Columbia, SC   September 26th, 2007 1:56 pm ET

No wonder the Democratic Party and its candidates find no support from conservative "value voters" when they eagerly accept this type of campaign support. The show is another indication of the moral decay in our nation.

Maybe John Edwards should consider a new television series "Desperate Candidates".

Jennifer, Houston, TX   September 26th, 2007 1:49 pm ET

Well, that bumped James Denton up in my book!

CALVIN, GREENVILLE SC   September 26th, 2007 1:19 pm ET

HE'S ONLY SUPPORTING JOHN BECAUSE HE IS A WHITE MALE. JUST FOR THOSE BASHING OPRAH!

AJ; Montpelier, VT   September 26th, 2007 1:17 pm ET

"Democrats get porn stars, Hollywood libs and madams to support them"

And Republicans get to have them as their candidates.

org, denver, co.   September 26th, 2007 1:05 pm ET

Denton seemed so sensible and cool, now he's with the Breck Girl. Ug. ust be a southern thing James feels a kinship to.

James, Phoenix AZ   September 26th, 2007 12:57 pm ET

I love the irony… Desperate Housewife… John Edwards.

pl. at the UN for a while.   September 26th, 2007 12:51 pm ET

Aghee. Senator, questions have already been raised about who is the real candidate.
This piece of news doesn't help.

Pat, huntington, ny   September 26th, 2007 12:45 pm ET

Yum! Love's me some James Denton…up until the moment…why Edwards?

ronnie - knoxville, tn.   September 26th, 2007 12:42 pm ET
