Campaigning on 9/11

Sen. Hillary Clinton has a new campaign ad about her involvement in helping 9/11 rescue and clean-up workers.

(CNN) - Mary Snow takes a look at the potential benefits and risks of using imagery associated with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to campaign for political office.

What did Rudy actually DO on 9/11? It seems like all you Rudy supporters can say is "he was DOING".... what that DOING means is never mentioned. Go up to New York and ask the locals. Ask the firefighters and the police. This guy did not DO anything....

    And, Ian from Arlington, TX,
Last I heard, Hillary was not married to George Bush... who has been such a shame for our great state.

Hillary is campaigning as a Republican, and I find that disgusting.

Let's nominate a Democrat in the Democratic primaries, people. Pull the wool back from over your eyes and THINK.

    Hey "Ron Paul"

Just saying that Rudy did nothing on 9-11 doesn't make it so. Go back and read the Time article accompanying his "Person of the Year" Award.

I'm not voting for him, but, to say he did nothing is BS and offensive

Sen. Clinton hasn't used 9/11 to suggest that, unless you vote for her, terrorist wolves will come and eat your little children. Nor does she argue, as Mayor Giuliani does, that, because he was mayor on that terrible day, we should just go ahead and crown him, regardless of what came before or after. Sen. Clinton's ad points out what she did as Senator in the aftermath of the disaster, which is relevant to her qualifications for the presidency. She isn't exploiting anyone or anything connected to the day. Therefore, her ad is perfectly legitimate.

She WAS booed the first time spoke in NYC after the tragedy, but Sen. Clinton has never let ill-informed attacks stop her from doing the right thing. (This personal quality is one of the best arguments for electing her.) After the booing, she helped get the frontline workers proper equipment (which Mayor Giuliani did not) and later, she got them appropriate health care (Giuliani - again no). That's why she is CURRENTLY so popular among frontine workers, many of whom now despise Giuliani. Just wait, you'll see THEIR ads.

Giuliani may have done the best he could on the morning of 9/11, but before that he sited Central Command in the WTC, which every terrorism expert told him NOT to do because terrorists had hit it before. That's why the fire and police chiefs were in different places when he gave the order to evacuate. The police chief got the order but the fire chief didn't. That might not have ended up mattering anyway, because, once more thanks to the Mayor's "leadership," his department heads didn't have inter-operable radios. So the fire chief most likely wouldn't have been able to give the order to his fire-fighters anyway. If that's Giulian's best, protect the country from even his second-best.

STEVE: exactly what facts do you find less than truthful in Sen. Clinton's advertisement? I'm getting a little tired of Sen. Clinton's opponents making charges against her, or repeating catch-phrases with no evidence to back them up. Also, 20,000,000 new jobs, a balanced budget, a nice surplus and shrinking public debt, efficient, professional, well-run government departments, a sane and sensible foreign policy: works for me.

    "To Mike in Texas.

I am so surprised with someone from TEXAS bashing Hillary Clinton!!!! After all, your great state has given us the best president ever! (i'm not refering to LBJ or Bush Sr.)"

    r,sisk , Nevada
You are making the wrong assumption of that I am a Bushy because I am from Texas. I have news for you: I don't know about Nevada but Texans have diverse views on things and they are not all Bushies. There are independents , democrats and even independent republicans. I am a democrat and I didn't like when I saw Bush and Guiliani exploit 9/11 (but at least I am usedto it) but it makes me even furious when a democrat does the same thing after criticizing the repubs harshly for past few years. Got it?

    It is truly amazing
that none of you see what is really going on. This blindness of our
populous is really the problem with America. You actually believe
that one of these candidates is different from another and that the
two parties stand for different principles. Don't you see that the
same people have been in power for decades and the changing of
control in congress from one party to another is mere theatrics. If
Hillary is elected, either a Clinton or a Bush will have been in the
presidency for a minimum of 20 years!
senators started back in the 1970's and keep getting re-elected. If
you want our country back YOU
have to stop putting the same people in power, remove the career
politicians, introduce term limits on senators and sponsor true
statesmen. Otherwise, the agenda of the status quo will continue as
it has for the past 75 years. Learn your history people and stop
repeating your mistakes...I beg this of you. Oh, and don't forget to
    wear your flag pin!

Hillary was NOT there for a loooong time.
Actually, she was "invisible" (her word) for New Yorkers, right after 9/11.
Even now, if you ask New Yorkers many of them will not be sure if she was NY Senator at that time because she was "invisible".

"I don't know how Hillary can live with herself. To use 9/11 victims and the workers whose blood, sweat and tears helped this country on to recovery is an abomination. She fails to address the guilty party in all this and continues to oppose those efforts of retaliation. She should be ashamed."

Posted By Lyndal, Lowell, Arkansas : October 6, 2007 10:22 am

You mean retaliation against Saddam??? No wonder you voted for Bushco the last 2 times and this country is in a world of crap.

Neither Hillary, nor Rudy, nor Bush did anything of great value on 9-11 that anyone else wouldn't have done (in Bush's case, it was less).

Rudy has been cravenly milking 9-11 in the most nauseating manner for years and it's the ONLY reason any fool that supposrts him thinks he is "qualified". If he didn't milk it, he'd just be a another ex-mayor, never again to win another office in New York state.

No one should "use" 9-11, no one. Even if Rudy milked it for years and Bush used it to fool and scare people into Iraq (a place he wanted to invade before 9-11 but was hunting for an excuse), HRC shouldn't touch it.

Let the shameless republican pukes keep milking it and lets start exposing them for wrapping themselves in it, like prior scum wrapped themselves in the flag while only promoting themselves.

As a Democrat I am voting for Hillary. Voting for Obama will only take votes away from Hillary. That's what the Republicans want. To divide our party. Republicans are wolves in sheep clothing. They don't care about anyone but themselves. The Democrats want to help everyone. They are the kind andgentle party. Think about that.

9/11 is the only reason Bush was able to steal the president election.

EVERYONE involved with 9/11 is allowed to share their experience; this is America the land of the FREE! It happened to the ENTIRE US. It should NEVER be ignored because the republicans used it in every way they could last election and the republicans hid behind this dishonest current admin and let him fool America into chasing the wrong guy wasting billions of money and single handedly causing a bogus war that continues to kill many Americans each month. Bush protected the Osama family the morning of 9/11, why you ask? Watch Michaels Moore’s 9/11, you'll understand bush was defending daddy going after Hussein, yes, even at the expense of our great country.

ALL current republicans need to be replaced!

    As for Bush/Chaney….”IMPEACH, IMPEACH IMPEACH”!!!!

    JB Boston of MA,

I know you probably won't read this comment since it is an "old" story already but I have to leave this comment in here for the record.

How typical of a modern day republican to trust what Time magazine says over what the actual workers of our country say and care about. That is exactly what's wrong with the Republican party of today under the guidance of the Bush regime. That is why we need Ron Paul to lead it back to the glory days and make sure guys like you and Rudy do not make a mockery out of this party.

Wow...so Giuliani didn't get along with the firefighters....the police or the teachers?? (wait....you are talking about the unions...not the actual teachers...firefighters..and police) – unions have taken advantage of us – their time has come and gone....you misrepresenting the facts is helping nobody – who ensures that no reforms are put into our nations failing public schools...yep....the teachers unions (read the Worm in the Apple) – who ensures that police guilty of butuality are kept on the job paid....yep...the police union...who ensures that paid firefighters are given all benefits even after they retire (even though it bankrupts the cities they work in...and nobody I know of is drafted to be a fireman) – yep....its the firemans union....the abuses of the unions is staggering...they need to be eliminated before we can compete in a global economy....and we need to stop the only party pandering to them (you know who you are)

Wow Chris of Middletown, CT, you sound like quite the "centrist" here with regard to unions, LOL, while in other discussions you've been a shill for Rudy Guiliani pushing him as a "centrist".

Anything negative unions have done pales in comparison to what Republicans have done in the past decade to ruin our country at home and abroad.

    It's no contest.

And they should be held accountable, in full, which disqualifies pretend "centrists" like Guiliani who have been supporters and apologists for the disasterous administration we have had.

I would enjoy seeing a satirical play on this farce of an ad – Hillary standing before the group of firefighters honoring their fallen brethren... and Hillary is being booed.

    Ron Paul-

I am guessing any article that provides information contrary to your opinions is not worth reading. And I am sure you didn't read the article or else you would be harping on the negatives about Giuliani. There are quite a few.

I am also sure that Time magazine talked to more people before writing the article than you ever have.
