What a relief when I realized that, yes, there are legitimate reasons why a Christian would choose to vote for either side. And I absolutely believe in separation of church and state. I LOVE separation of church and state. The church is better off without ties to the government, and we need to always keep a watch on this. Barack is walking a fine line here, but I'm glad to know more about his faith... maybe we can finally begin breaking those ties between religion and the Republican party. I think Christianity is so much more than a couple of hot-button issues, and that while God is concerned about the lives of unborn babies, He is also so very concerned about the millions of children who go to bed hungry every night, about the 30,000 children who die each day from hunger-related causes... I think that we do begin to see God's Kingdom here on earth when we reach out to the poor and the marginalized. That is what Jesus is all about, and that's the kingdom that He created, yes, beginning right here on earth. Why is it wrong to talk about it as such? Obama speaks of such things and it comes across for he has a heart for the people, which is the mark of gifted leadership. These are the same people who have spent the last twenty years (and they're not done yet) trying to foist their own "Kingdom" on the rest of us: one in which their religion, and their religion alone, decides what we can see, hear, say, and believe. One in which Christianity will be enforced in the schools, and all other religions or belief systems scorned and silenced. One in which the individual conscience about matters as profound as abortion are smashed by their belief that they, and they alone, know the truth, and will impose it on others. If they weren't so ignorant of the rest of the world, rather than denouncing Obama as a "Mooslim" (What's that? Here in Maine we might think it's a slim moose) they might understand that he is saying exactly what JFK said in his inaugural address, when he invoked God, but said that "here on earth, God's work must truly be our own."
