Clinton took a moment to tend to her shoes Tuesday.

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (CNN) - Her shoelace, that is.

After delivering a speech on retirement accounts Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, was asked by an audience member, "Would you tie your shoes so that you don't trip over them?"

"I might need health care!" Clinton responded laughing. "I bought these moccasins, which I highly recommend to you, at the Fort Dodge [Iowa] museum and gift shop. They are so comfortable, but occasionally I have to stop and tie them... Thank you."

After first asking Clinton her thoughts on the length of the campaign season, the woman raised the shoelace issue as a quick follow-up.

Once the laughter in the audience died down, Clinton responded to the first question.

"Boy, you are singing my song. I'll tell you what, if there were a way to shorten campaigns I would be the first one in line."

Oh sure, she may make president, she just won't know what to do. Awful judgment. Why does she want to be president anyway? She's really not for the people. Wouldn't she rather go out with the girls shopping for her rocking chair and future grandbaby's clothes and let someone run the country who can actually do it, like Obama?

a.thomas, new york, ny   October 10th, 2007 8:03 pm ET

If George Bush were in the same shoe untied situation, there are two possibilities:

a) he will trip over the shoe lace and hit his head; or

b) he will forget the question after he ties up his shoe lace.

May she should just give up on her effort for the nomination; go out too celebrate and have a couple of glasses of Quats. Liquid fungicides that attack decay organisms. The quat preserve is used in swimming pool chemicals, shampoos, hospital mop washes, and many other human contact applications.

Yes, this is a worthy story for CNN to report on at this time. I'm sure there is nothing going on more noteworthy. Bang up job, CNN. – Matt

Yeah-yeah, sure thing – I haven't seen anybody protesting a "worthy" news of traffic accident with Michelle Obama's car involved.

laurinda,ny   October 10th, 2007 9:49 am ET

Let me tell you something you Republicans, maybe you've never worn moccassins. The shoe laces they put on them are terrible! Even double tieing them doesn't work. So stop being so stupid.

Matt, Manchester, CT   October 10th, 2007 8:21 am ET

Is Mrs Clinton sure someone didn't feed that person the question? They can't be smart enough on their own to notice her shoes were untied. There must be some sort of spy satellite watching Mrs Clinton that fed the info into the chip planted into that person's brain...probably implanted by the right wing conspiracy.

How could CNN fail to report on the real story here?

Carolyn   October 9th, 2007 11:41 pm ET

this is the real hillary ya just saw,she didnt know her mocassions were not tied...Im glad someone told her..she is a very warm person, and a very very strong effective canidate, and the most strongest President, effective with ideas and policys for Our Country,

a.thomas, new york, NY   October 9th, 2007 10:23 pm ET

She handled the could-be embarrassing situation very smoothly and well. She acted presidential to me.

Dave, Richmond, VA   October 9th, 2007 8:49 pm ET

Hey, I tied both my shoes today. Where's my article?

Seriously, quit with the non-stories. It's a presidential race, there MUST be more compelling things to talk about. Real issues, maybe?

SteveG, Huntingtn, WV   October 9th, 2007 8:47 pm ET

Go Hilary Go. You will def be the hottest president this country has ever had!!

John in CA   October 9th, 2007 8:44 pm ET

Hillarys shoe came untied...stop the presses..good job CNN thats what i call first rate journalism

Lisa Ling, Dallas, TX   October 9th, 2007 7:38 pm ET

Let's see, you have a chance to personally discuss the issues with a Presidential candidate, and you choose to comment on her shoelaces! And we let these people vote?!?!?!?

Linda, Boulder, CO   October 9th, 2007 7:06 pm ET

Ouch. What mean comments. Why is everyone so mean? Why can't we just be nice? It would be a different world if we could be kinder to each other, in our thoughts and actions. Please, be nice, everyone. Then folks will be nice to you.

Scott, Ohio   October 9th, 2007 6:46 pm ET

Bill Martin, that first sentence is about the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Are you serious? Is this article even serious? What the hell is the deal with the media? This country, along with Bill's comment, is making me nauseous.

America is making me sick, I'm already looking forward to 2012 just like Bush haters look forward to 2008.

Honest to God, I'd vote Bush over Hillary every day of the week. AND I'm NOT even a big Bush defender/Republican (I support Biden the most), I just see right through Hillary.

Donna L   October 9th, 2007 6:29 pm ET

How very "astute" of the questioner to notice the candidate's show was untied. I have learned a lot today about the candidate.

Robert New York City & Miami, Florida   October 9th, 2007 6:11 pm ET

I'll tie your shoe and vote for you.

Another Clinton saves the country of the mess left by Bush!

frank Honolulu HI   October 9th, 2007 6:05 pm ET

This story is silly. Can't you get deeper into the real issues?
Was this written by a high schooler?

Jim, Jacksonville, FL   October 9th, 2007 5:44 pm ET

Man she is a hoot, she should replace David Letterman she is so funny. Quick someone put this not funny out of candidate out of her misery and send her back to New York to torture a smaller portion of the American population.

Alice Chicago   October 9th, 2007 5:29 pm ET

Really professional and Lady like....This woman is a trainwreck, you people really could see this self-righteous clown as our president????You democrats really need a reality check.

Bill Martin, Lewisburg, Tn.   October 9th, 2007 5:19 pm ET

More evidence that the Senator is a very "real" person. She is going to make a very strong Democratic canidate, but will be a very effective President.

Anonymous   October 9th, 2007 5:14 pm ET

Are you serious with this story?

Eric, Newtown, PA   October 9th, 2007 5:02 pm ET

CNN is entering the realm of self-parody. Seriously, you just wrote about a candidate tying her shoes.

pl. at the UN for a while.   October 9th, 2007 4:51 pm ET

Someone finally said it. Ms Rodham Clinton is no longer a "probable" nominee, but an "assured" one.
Mr Obama is doing well not to burn bridges behind him.
Mr Edwards, on the other hand, is going for broke, hoping for a repeat of the Dean-Kerry come-from-the-back results of 2003.
Why even bother with the primaries?

Rex, Toledo, Ohio   October 9th, 2007 4:49 pm ET

No Hillary, YOU have health care. The finest our tax money can buy.

I see that Hillary has changed her mind about the $5000 dollar to every baby born idea in favor of the Government matching up to $1000 dollars in a 401k retirement plan.

Communism at its finest.....
Ron Paul 'o8!

VanReuter NY NY   October 9th, 2007 4:43 pm ET

Next, it will be the old guy with the hairstyle question. Keeping the readers informed on all the important issues in the campaign, it's CNN's political trickster, er, ticker...

Van

JR, Ohio   October 9th, 2007 4:40 pm ET

Does the media not have anything better to do than talk about Hillary's shoe being untied? How many times did she chew her food? This is going overboard. Each canidate should get equal press time no matter what the party, race, or sex.

Anonymous   October 9th, 2007 4:31 pm ET

Good tatic. Show support for the states Native Americans on national TV. I wonder how many of them even vote?

Tom - Dedham, Mass   October 9th, 2007 4:24 pm ET

If they shortened the campaign, you would have to do your "real" job.

VanReuter NY NY   October 9th, 2007 4:23 pm ET

We all wish there was a way to shorten the campaign too Hillary. Seeing and hearing less of you would be much better.

Glad to see you rid the audience of any REAL questions and now get softball questions about the length of the campaign and your shoelaces...

or should that have been HSU-laces?
