If Gore wins a Nobel Peace prize, presidential talk is certain to heat up again.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Will Al Gore add a Nobel Peace Prize to his Oscar and Emmy honors?

"An Inconvenient Truth," a documentary featuring the former vice president captured two Academy Awards in February. The film focuses on Gore and his worldwide travels to educate the public about the severity of global warming. (Related: Draft Gore group steps up efforts)

Last month Gore picked up an Emmy - the highest award in television - for "Current TV," which he co-created. The show describes itself as a global television network that gives its viewers the opportunity to create and influence its programming.

Way to go Vice-President Gore, congrats on your sharing the Nobel Peace prize with an agency within the the good United Nations! Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. It's great to see an American on the world stage being honored for something positive, by a neutral entity. What a great year for V.P. Gore!! I hope it continues!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

Is it just me or is that the most hideous possum-like face you've ever seen?

D.J. - Wilmington, NC   October 12th, 2007 2:48 pm ET

Oh my gosh ! How Al Gore 's legacy has grown. He didn't have the votes for President so he latched onto the one issue held sacred by liberals – The "Plaaaaanet" (spoken with a long whiny tone) – and that catapulted him to god-like status. If only Al Gore were President, we'd pay sky-high taxes so that his own company could sell you your carbon offsets so you wouldn't feel guilty about having that eight bathroom mansion !

xtina - chicago IL   October 12th, 2007 2:44 pm ET

Thank you for your comments Tom in Denham,MA. Now, you're a real American. How could we go from global cooling in the mid-'70s to global warming? If the temp has only gone up one degree, why are we thinking warming exists? And, how can a fine American such as Ed Begley who lives the way we all should, not be the spokesperson for living a clean life? Many things bug me about Al Gore, but one is that he charges $50,000 to tell groups that we're ruining the planet, flying there in a chartered plane to do so. If we truly were in peril, wouldn't he make his presentation available for free to less affluent groups and colleges?

ronnie - knoxville tn   October 12th, 2007 2:36 pm ET

This whole Al Gore worship is creepy; it's like a substitute for religion. Liberals tend towards the cult of personality, they are attracted to those who pander to popular (socialist) opinion. Al Gore fits the bill AND he's a victim (having lost the election.) Say, this Al Gore thing could be more retribution from people who voted for the wrong guy in the last election and still can't just let it go that they lost.

Tom - Dedham, Mass   October 12th, 2007 10:04 am ET

Even yesterday his "movie" with all of it's LIES and DISTORTIONS was called out, by no, not a Republican, but another country.

There are real experts from all around the world and that includes my backyard of MIT, Harvard etc, etc, that say he is full of it.

The same people that said we were going to be wiped out by "killer bees" in the 1970's are all on his side.

The worlds mean temperature has gone up one degree in the last 100 or so years.

Of course the usual left-leaning organizations are genuflecting for this guy and I do APPLAUD him for getting us to talk about the WORLD, but I will not bow down to him as a savior until he stops jet-setting around in planes that are bad for the environment and pissing away 20 times the energy the rest of us use in our homes.

The real Nobel prize winner and hero of the movement should be Ed Begley jr, who not only talks the talk, he has been living it for years.

No running around the world using planes and cars that "pollute" and then getting a warm fuzzy by planting a couple of trees to "make up for it".

I do my part, I recycle my papers and plastics as I believe in that part of the "cause".

laurinda,ny   October 12th, 2007 8:11 am ET

NORTH CAROLNA..AL did win the peace prize and he won't be running for prez. If anything he will be Hillary's running mate. They have my vote as well as many other sensible people.

Greg Williams, California   October 12th, 2007 7:00 am ET

With the state of major disarray the US is currently under with the Bush regime, this country needs a president with integrity, honor, an ear of responsibility to the nation's people and a conscience. Bush offers none of the above and that's why careful selection of our next president remains of critical importance.

I truly believe Gore is a president that would help right the sinking USA Minnow; which is taking on momentous amounts of water right now. Gore has proven to have a pulse with the people and I think it would be greatly in this nation's, the people's, interest to see him run. I surely hope he does. America deserves much better and I think Gore is truly the only candidate that can live up to the nation's needs.

North Carolina   October 12th, 2007 2:39 am ET

It makes the Republicans cringe when they hear Al Gore's name mentioned because they don't want him to have any exposure for fear of him running for President in 2008. I hope he wins the Nobel Peace Prize and if he will come out for Prez in 2008 it will be a landslide victory. God Bless America!

Ashley, Santa Rosa, CA   October 12th, 2007 12:11 am ET

An Inconvient Truth was unfortunately biased by the decision to insert scenes from Gore's presidential race.

After reading these posts, I suddenly realize something!

All the nations of the world who signed the Kyoto treaty are stupid!
The vast majority of all scientists are all stupid!
The Nobel Prize Committee are all stupid!
Al Gore and all the people who made the movie are all stupid!
The people who helped with Al Gore's book are all stupid!
Birds are all stupid for migrating farther North than they used to – for no reason!
Polar bears are all stupid for dying for no reason! Bears are so dumb!
The Antarctic is stupid for melting for absolutely no reason! Ice is stupid!

And who is smart?
Laurinda, who says "How exactly does a crapumentary using junk science qualify Algore for the Nobel Peace Prize?"
Burn wood who says, "You mean Nobel Nut Prize. I see he is back to shaving, must have donated the beard hair to 'Build a Bird Nest Family'"
TideDruid, who says "How many CNN employees must disagree with him before he goes away to his high energy household?"
Randy, who says "the credibility for taht award, went out the window when Big-Mouth Jimmy Carter won it. he needs to go back to his peanut farm and shut the hell up."

What a fool I've been!

N.T. Emm, Topeka, KS   October 11th, 2007 9:34 pm ET

Yasser Arafat.
Jimmy Carter.
Al Gore (potential winner).

Alfred Nobel must be spinning in his grave. What was once a highly praised and important humanitarian award has been reduced to a politically charged and skewed popularity contest that is on par with the Daytime Emmy Awards.

If Al Gore wins due to his work on Global Warming – then the Nobel Prize needs to add a category for fibbing.

Cathleen Seattle WA   October 11th, 2007 8:08 pm ET

Um….generally the Nobel Peace Prize is not given because science is involved….just efforts in peace

.....I don't understand how Global Warming fits into the Nobel Peace Prize

...UMMMM try doing some research. The criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize are as follows:
Criteria of the AFSC Nobel Peace Prize Nominating Committee:
1. The candidate’s commitment to nonviolent methods.
2. The quality of the candidate as a person and of her/his sustained contribution to peace.
3. The candidate’s work on issues of peace, justice, human dignity, and the integrity of the environment.
4. The candidate’s possession of a world view and/or global impact as opposed to a parochial concern.

Tara, Virginia   October 11th, 2007 8:08 pm ET

Hmm...Al Gore winning the Nobel peace prize for his Global Warming debut? Quite the expansion on the definition of "peace"......

Lucia, TEXAS   October 11th, 2007 8:00 pm ET

Al, you're the MAN. I can't wait to see you receive this fantastic honor.

Bets, Hood River, OR   October 11th, 2007 7:59 pm ET

Terrific if Gore wins the Nobel Peace Price...but if he's going to run for President...will he do it on a "real wealth" platform? Our current consumer economy must transition if we're going to address global climate change. Riane Eisler's book, Real Wealth of Nations outlines concrete steps that would transform the dominator/consumption economy to one of caring/consciousness and valuing what's truly important: humans and the earth working in harmony.

Way to go Al! To those of you who don't want to believe the facts in his book. YOU ARE IN DENIAL! All I can say is I sure hope you snap out of it so there will be something left worth living on for our children and grandchildren.
Better news would be that he will run for pres. again.

I personally think Al should get the Nobel Peace Prize for inventing the internet!! That's a much bigger accomplishment than a fake-u-mentory.

Maybe next year, Michael Moore can be nominated for his stellar work with Farenheit 9/11?

deroy, w. palm, FL   October 11th, 2007 6:56 pm ET

he will win the prize and declare sweden is his home.

he will never return.

Josh   October 11th, 2007 6:01 pm ET

Attention supporters of Al Gore. Get your facts straight. During this period of so called "global warming" there has been no increase or decrease in temperature during the last 8 years. Gores movie was based on an idea. Many of the "facts" in his movie have been proven to be false. His "science" is based on a consensus. Real science in based on a theory that is tested and retested and exists as fact like... gravity, not like global warming.

Additionally, During the Earths history, it has been both warmer and colder and man had nothing to do with that.

Also, How can you be so cocky and arrogant to assume that this is the earths ideal temperature. Even if the globe is warming, maybe it's warming up to the correct temperature. To think that you should decide what the temperature should be for the kids of our future. Shame on you Mr. Gore and all you constituency.

joseph, austin, tx   October 11th, 2007 5:04 pm ET

Mac, Severn, Md   October 11th, 2007 4:52 pm ET

British court ruled this week that Gore's Inconvenient Truth has at LEAST 9 major factual ERRORS in it. Why would he get prizes for this? Rewarding Un-truths? How low can you go. He's a flim flam man.

Betty Childers, Houston, TX   October 11th, 2007 4:50 pm ET

I don't understand how Global Warming fits into the Nobel Peace Prize. As for the documentary film dreamed up by Mr Gore, and shown to all our school children, it was so flawed it was/is a disgrace. How can a "prize" be based on that. This wonderful world has to have someone more befitting...

Steve   October 11th, 2007 4:16 pm ET

Go, Al. What a man.

Now, if you declare for the presidency, do NOT march up and down the debate stage like a thug! And this time, take credit for all of the good Clinton and you did, rather than backing away from EVERYTHING Clinton because of Bill's sex addiction.

It's obvious, most of the U.S. is nostalgic for B. Clinton's presidency, based on recent polls.

Thanks.

Ryan, New York, NY   October 11th, 2007 4:15 pm ET

I think there are two reasons that the Red Staters don't care about global warming:
1) They live in the middle of the country and are longing for a day when the oceans swallow Manhattan, LA, San Francisco and Southern Florida.

2) The Apocalypse is nigh.

Even if CO2 emissions aren't the cause, they're definitely not helping to curb global warming. That said, what's the problem with trying to find more efficient alternatives? They at least require less fuel, which is a step in the right direction for other reasons, unless you're an oil company that will make less money from reduced sales.

Conversely, if they are the cause, I think we all know what'll happen.

Nick, CA   October 11th, 2007 3:59 pm ET

I don't think Al Gore should get the Nobel Peace Prize for this. Simple as that. And please, before you go posting anything about global warming, please do some of your own research instead of reading one bias article. This narrow-minded perspective is bound to collide with someone else's narrow-minded perspective; History is proof of that.

Steve H., Tempe, Arizona   October 11th, 2007 3:41 pm ET

I am not here to comment directly about Al Gore and/or the Nobel Peace Prize.

My comments have to do with media attention on environmental issues. In the late 60s, early 70s, there were several hot button issues that were as much, if not more, in the public realm as global warming. The book "The Population Bomb", films like "Soylent Green" (which mentions the Greenhouse Effect)all painted a very bleak future for the world (i.e. the next 30-40 years).

Well, those 30 years have passed and very little of those dire scenarios have come to pass.

As a child of the 70s, I find it harder and harder to accept the dire predictions of the global warming crowd.

Now, I AM NOT DENYING that something may be amiss with the weather, and WE may very well be a part of it. My question is: How can we know what is an immediate danger versus what is media hype. The media reports the findings, but what are, if any, the agendas of those purporting these views?

Is it up to us as citizens to cut through the media angles and the possible bias? Anyone else want to comment on this?

I guess I am just jaded. Have a great day, everyone!!!

Tim , Seattle   October 11th, 2007 3:31 pm ET

Ah, Can you feel the jealousy?

I see a democrat that is putting meaning to his life after politics. He won the popular vote for the presidency and he is even more widely revered now because of his concern for global issues and his enlightenment of an entire generation.
I can only assume that conservatives are jealous of the fact that he has more influence and is listened to more on our planet than our existing president. Too bad you are threatened by someone who has a brain.
You can dis-believe all you want in what he has to say, but lets face it...the man is an excellent writer and thinker...and better still a good listener. I guess the world sees him for what he is. And now he is being honored for it.
I suppose thats a very inconvenient truth to those that just want to disrespect him. Too bad, because you are in a very slim minority.

Lets see....Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr on Africa, Carter and habitat for humanity and Sudan, Gore on the environment.
Go guys!

JB, Oaktown   October 11th, 2007 3:20 pm ET

"junk science", "flip-flop", "fuzzy math" How do these comebacks work for the right?

Aaron, Lynnwood, WA   October 11th, 2007 3:18 pm ET

This man is a fraud, and I'm sure he's planning on running for president no matter what he's been telling us.

Jennifer, Seattle, WA   October 11th, 2007 3:18 pm ET

Um....generally the Nobel Peace Prize is not given because science is involved....just efforts in peace

Olaf, Tucson, AZ   October 11th, 2007 3:15 pm ET

If he does, that will mean the Nobel Peace Prize has about as much merit as winning a Gold medal in the Olympics....that really doesn't mean anything anymore either...or breaking a homerun record in baseball.....just yesterday's news...

Bob, San Francisco, CA   October 11th, 2007 2:43 pm ET

"junk science" must be the new buzz word for the flat-earth society. The same folks who believe the world is only 6,000 years old and we fought in Vietnam and Iraq "for our freedom and for democracy".

Why jump all over Al Gore on this issue? Can't people at least be enlightened enough to give credit where credit is due? Can people think beyond the rhetoric that's spoon-fed to them by right wing spin doctors?

Just me   October 11th, 2007 2:25 pm ET

How does making a film about the environment qualify anyone for a Nobel Peace Prize? I don't see the connection, I mean, aren't the people selected usually those who have either helped end conflicts, or promoted peace...how does a film on global warming apply to this category?

Barabas, Hot City, TX   October 11th, 2007 2:15 pm ET

If this happens I will no longer have respect for the Nobel Peace Prize. Gore gets all the attention on this because he is a household name....meanwhile the people who really thought of and created the documentary and TV show get no credit because no one knows their names. If he was a stand-up guy he would give credit where credit is due.

Not to mention that global warming is based on shady science at best. It seems every day there is a conflicting report on what does or doesn't cause global warming.

Meanwhile, Gore sits in his 100,000 square foot energy-sucking mansion, flies to events in a fuel-gulping jet, and craps in a huge 1,000 gallon-per-flush toilet – OK, I made up that last one. He has no real concern for the environment.

Randy S. Lawton, OK   October 11th, 2007 2:06 pm ET

the credibility for taht award, went out the window when Big-Mouth Jimmy Carter won it.

he needs to go back to his peanut farm and shut the hell up.

TR in Wallingford, CT   October 11th, 2007 2:05 pm ET

Who are these people who don't believe in global warming who are posting these negative comments?

Are these the same GOPers who don't believe in evolution?

Give credit where credit's due. Al Gore has brought tremendous attention to this important issue.

Dan (Columbia, MD)   October 11th, 2007 1:45 pm ET

Junk science = Nobel Peace Prize?

There goes the credibility for that award.

TideDruid   October 11th, 2007 1:45 pm ET

Good grief, I am sick of watching people bow down to Al Gore. How many CNN employees must disagree with him before he goes away to his high energy household?

Ben   October 11th, 2007 1:23 pm ET

He will win the Nobel Peace Prize and endorse Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States.

Good news all around

Burn wood stove Clearbrook VA   October 11th, 2007 1:12 pm ET

You mean Nobel Nut Prize. I see he is back to shaving, must have donated the beard hair to "Build a Bird Nest Family"

John, Kansas City, MO   October 11th, 2007 12:46 pm ET

Gore may have Bush's nose, but the resemblance stops there. Gore has a brain...and a conscience.

Tom, ALBUQUERQUE, NM   October 11th, 2007 12:25 pm ET

A NOBLE MAN. I believe Gore is effective in what he is doing now. I would rather that he continue his clarion calls to a world in environmental distress. This is indeed a noble cause.

RightyTighty   October 11th, 2007 12:23 pm ET

They're giving away peace prices for scare mongering again? Or is this board make up from those same agenda-driven environmental alarmists of 1973??

Then the "consensus among the scientists" was that there is global cooling. If you review Newsweek’s first Earth Day edition, please do, you will see people holding up signs that read, "The next Ice Age is coming."

Like those people, Al has done nothing but prompt his own self glory. Its clearly seen in his arrogant stance on the facts. Like Bill's finger wagging, Al's incompetence easily shines through the smoke screen. And like Bill's behavior, its not something that should be rewarded..

Edward Mares , Rio Rancho New mexico   October 11th, 2007 12:19 pm ET

In the film many of Gore's so called facts have been proven to be fraudulent or made up. Gore's nomination for this award should have been pulled long ago. Just ask the polar bears.

George, Champaign, IL   October 11th, 2007 11:39 am ET

I hope he doesn't; what exactly is his accomplishment is bringing "peace" to human civilization?

On the other note, though, the Peace prize has been awarded to thugs like Kissinger and Arafat, anyways. It doesn't really have too much value IMO.

TWPeck, Saginaw, MI   October 11th, 2007 11:33 am ET

It would be An Inconvenient Truth considering how his body of work has been so one-sided and hypocritical.

even an English court found his movie full of errors and partisan

Chris, Middletown, CT   October 11th, 2007 11:30 am ET

If he does – it will invalidate the Nobel prize. Generally in science you have the theory and open it up to alternate theories. With Al Gore – you have the CO2 is causing global warming – even though cause and effect are in reverse (warming happened – then CO2 increased.....generally you don't bleed...then you get shot....)

Chris, FL   October 11th, 2007 11:23 am ET

Gore has George Bushes nose. Man I wish I wouldn't of watched that video that talked about noses.
