Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Oh grow up – stop looking to be offend everytime someone hiccups. Christians believe they are prefected Jews, Jews are waiting for the savior, Muslims believe Mohammad was a prophet....Great we all believe what we want – free thought, free speech...Novel concept.

WOW Ann Chose her words badly!

To hope every human being on earth accepts Jesus Christ into their hearts and will go to heaven is a very Christian hope. To have a firm belief that if everyone made the personal choice to believe in Jesus Christ, that the world would be a better place is not even wrong.

To choose the words "No, we think — we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say." is an incredibly insensitive way to try to express such feelings.

Sure Coulters an idiot that's her job, to keep herself in the headlines as much as possible. The world would be better if the press would just stop talking to these people.

Ann Coulter is a modern day Nazi, I mean old school, nobody is "perfect" if they are not a white, Christain. She is an embarrassment to women who care about politics and policy, and our troubled Nation. Somebody grab her in the pants, because I really think she is a white, male, patriarcial pig!

    Coulter Logic:

So, if like, Jews believe the Old Testament and Christians believe the Old and New Testamnet and Muslims believe the Old Testament, New Testament and the Koran... are Muslims perfect Christians???

my political affiliation aside, as a jew i can tell you that pigs are not kosher and i think this woman is a pig dressed in a mini skirt. that said, she will continue to fatten herself up by wallowing in crap – becasue so many people actually believe her. today she is a best selling author – one day, and that day can not come soon enough, she will just be another pound of bacon in the freezer section of a local safeway market. oh wait, it was another little piggy that went to market. THIS LITTLE PIGGY IS GOING STRAIGHT TO HELL.

When will the non-Jewish world understand that Jews don't give a -- about Jesus. They don't have any interest in the afterlife. They don't like proselitizing. They care about life here on earth; they are GENEROUS – with their hearts, time, spirit, and yes, even money. They are peaceful people who want to practice THEIR religion, in peace, without their lives being threatened. JEWS forgive themselves, and each other, EVERY YEAR. They don't need to pray to God in silence to forgive their sins, they are accountable for their sins here and now. I'm tired of Christians, and other religions, thinking Jews are so threatening, and being Jewish is wrong. There are so few of us, we just want to be accepted for who we are.

I can't believe that in this day and age people on both sides can't accept each other for their differences. To make statements about another's religion that insinuate that they are wrong in their belief and should be "perfected" is a horrible approach if conversion is your mission. How would Christians react if the conversation were reversed, I am sure they would be just as offended, since we are taught all others are wrong. Ms. Coulter is clearly insecure and intolerant to all others feelings and beliefs, but most of us know this. It is this country's sick fascination with "train wrecks" that keep people like her in the public eye. Unfortunately the ignorant masses believe this woman to be a role model and a person of character, which makes me worried that impressionable people defend such a clear example of what Americans DO NOT stand for since America was established.

To those who think Ann should be too smart for such antics, remember: Dan Quayle passed the New York bar. To her, a "perfect Jew" must abide by Deuteronomy 13:7-11, which requires that a parent kill his child should they doubt the Lord (try that one in court). What about Deuteronomy 13:1, "Whatever I am now commanding you, you must keep and observe, adding nothing, taking nothing away." It provides no caveat that such rules are nullified if a convicted criminal 1500 years later be regarded as savior. It doesn't mention fulfillment of the law as Jesus does in Matthew 5:18, "...one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." We should take the quote from God Himself or disregard it all as a relic of a bygone era, which is all Coulter (who has not read or understood her Holy Book) is. She's the best argument conservatives have against women's rights.

And the Elite go marching on! The Republican Convention of '04? So the US would be better if we are all white, upper middle class (or wealthier), Christian and spoke with a condesending tone about minority races and religions? I am sure that is why we have the Constitution (sarcasim). I am sure the convention was nice and happy that is what happens when everyone in the room has the same ideas. That is not the US! Anyone notice a pattern, O'Riely's commentary on Blacks, Coulter's on Jews?

For those who ask why the news media gives Coulter so much airtime/coverage, just look at the number and the tone of responses here. It's all marketing folks. And we're all buying her "product" every time we get outraged and post a response. Oh, she's smart alright. And the news media knows that she's a guaranteed payoff. She generates interest, doesn't matter whether it's positive or negative. It sells advertising. Frankly, we should all be ashamed for falling prey to such a blatant scam.

This proves that education does not necessarily mean intelligent. Ignorance comes in many forms.

Her understanding of Judaism is obviously limited to preconceptions. Comments such as "You have to obey laws"..."Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament." show a complete lack of the historical context of these documents.

Of more concern to me is the fact that religion is at the forefront of our political landscape. The christian right sets agendas on topics that are not their province.

The entire notion of separation of church and state, a concept upon which our country was founded, is being eroded by religious special interests.

When a pundits like Coulter espouse this position, it further muddies the waters precisely because she is seen as a bright, well-educated, independent thinker.

It shows that all she says and does is said and done through the gauze of her religious beliefs, and those beliefs are extreme.

You cannot just take clips and then butcher what anyone says. Show the entire quote and let the public decide if she meant to be damaging.

Ann is just stating known doctrinal fact. It's Deutsch who is showing his lack of education. His pretense of offense reveals his agenda which is that we should all accept a general malaise of tolerance rather than an individual pursuit of truth. Coulter is not forcing her belief on anyone, she's merely stating it, which, I believe is her right.

By the way, Jewish theology has the rest of us going to hell as well. Oh yeah and Islamic doctrine has us all going to hell too.

Beleive whatever you want....just make sure you are trusting in the truth!

People were happy in 2004? One of the most divisive points in modern history...continued. She lives on her own planet that has nothing to do with other peoples reality.

She looks like she needs to eat some cheeseburgers.

Look hear...the Jewish people are going to come under allot more attention from this point forward as we closer to the return of Jesus Christ. The debates that will take place from this point forward will unfortunately hurt, physically and emotionally. There will be a separation, either you believe or you don't and right now we have great number of people on both sides of the fence. Yes the Jewish people are still looking for their savior, and won't believe that Jesus Christ is the answer, and Christians believe he has came, died, rose from the dead, ascension to GOD and will return. And some point in the near future someone will have to be right or wrong. You better be 100% sure about that decision, because there will be a price to pay.

I am Jewish, but I am not insulted or offended by this kind of crap. This is a reflection on the person who said it, and right now Ann Coulter looks pretty foolish and stupid. The bigger problem I have is with the Religious Right and those of that ilk becoming more and more an integral part of the Republican Party in the USA. I think it's not only dangerous for the majority of us who do not believe in their specific brand of faith, it also goes completely against the separation of church and state, one of the basic principles upon which our great country was founded.

There is something not quite right with Ann Coulter. I wonder what filled her with so much venom.
There is also something wrong with continually giving her access to microphone, we know she is going to be offensive.
I am a liberal but I don't believe her words are condoned by most conservatives. If I were them I would be embarrassed.

The Jews scream anti-semetic whenever someone says something negative about them regardless of whether it's true or not. The blacks scream racism whether it's the truth or not. It's an attempt to create only a positive image of them. If you got all the Christians to honestly speak their minds without being accused like she is most would tell you they agree with her.

I personally find Ms. Coulter to be as inconsequential as Paris Hilton. If you exchanged them, I'm not sure I could tell the difference. Do we really need to hear any more from either one of them?

And when will the Conservative Right come to the realization that their ideas and beliefs are not everyones, and it is insulting and preposterous to hear them refer to themselves as perfect. There isn't any adjective that could be further from the truth in describing this group of people, their beliefs and their political actions. Surely the last six years have proven that!

Ann Coulter is merely inflamatory and self-serving in her actions and comments. As I said, she has a lot in common with Paris!
