You go girl….you have done well for Upstate NY…do not let those Republican lies get you down…keep on truckin!

laurinda,ny   October 19th, 2007 4:07 pm ET

Were I live in upstate ny there is a big yellow and brown sign that say something like home of the Republicans. I can't stand that people would ever think that it applies to me!!! So don't blame the Democrats!!

Angelo K., NYC, NY   October 18th, 2007 4:57 pm ET

To those who are from upstate NY and complain about Hillary:
I live in NYC and I am a republican. But, I will never vote for Guliani as he is the most opportunist person I have ever come across and plays his 9/11 card all the time to draw sympathy. If 9/11 had not happened, Guliani has nothing to say about his accomplishments except for few clean ups here and there. Guliani has the worst family values records, his children hate him, he is controlled by his wife, and he changes his positions all the time. Between him and Hillary, I would certainly choose Hillary. But, my first choice is Ron Paul.

laurinda,ny   October 18th, 2007 4:34 pm ET

You are absolutely right upstate NY is gloomy country. I have lived here nine years to long. As soon as the housing market picks up, I am out of here. If the Republicans didn't ruin our economy I would have left last year.

Davis, NJ   October 18th, 2007 4:22 pm ET

CNN, the BIAS in your reporting is astounding!
Why don't you go to all the candidates' home states and ask find out whether republicans there would vote for them?
…In fact what prompted this report anyway? CNN goes out of its way to advertise for Sen. Clinton about her appeal in upstate NY. …. AND the video doesn't even sample various opinions and views of the Senator.
I have a task for CNN's reporters - maybe you should go to Illinois and ask the republicans there how they elected a young, black man with a funny name, who was outspend six to one to the US Senate.
That would be more sensible, i think!!

Howard, Huntington, NY   October 18th, 2007 2:39 pm ET

I used to live in Upstate NY too, and now I live on Long Island. I can't think of a single thing that Hillary has done to help NY.

Oh, but she fought violent video games! Thanks Hillary, you can find common ground with the GOP only when they go for nanny-state laws too.

S.C. Johnson, Richmond VA   October 18th, 2007 1:54 pm ET

I used to live in the real upstate NY (i.e. far north of Duchess County) and still visit there. It's pretty gloomy country economically and Hillary Clinton has done nothing to change that. She's pretty good at sponsering trivial, window dressing legislation just like her husband was.

Sam, Rhode Island   October 18th, 2007 1:52 pm ET

Jon,
How much has she really accomplished for New York though? I read that she has only sponsored like 10 substantive bills the whole time she's been in office. How is that being 'effective'?

Ryan Indianapolis   October 18th, 2007 1:18 pm ET

Sorry but no, I dont know one level headed republican that would vote for that marxist.

RuthieM   October 18th, 2007 1:10 pm ET

In answer to the question can she do so nationally to win the white house, I sure hope not.

Janet T., Boston, MA   October 18th, 2007 12:50 pm ET

CNN don't want my comments below:

Disgruntled republicans are frustrated because they have nothing to talk about their candidates. Polls show that only 20% of republican voters are satisfied with their choice. While more than 50% of democrats are happy with their candidates of which more than 50% support Hillary. That means republicans are either vote for Hillary or sit home. There is no match between Hillary, Obama and any other republican nominee. If Rudy wins the nomination, Hillary or Obama will crush him in the debate. For the prosparity of the average americans and to earn respect for this country, we need a democrat president.

Eric NYC   October 18th, 2007 12:44 pm ET

for the record, i was born in poughkeepsie and this story is complete b.s. they voted for her as a senator, not a president. slightly different scenario.

Mike, Milwaukee, WI   October 18th, 2007 12:40 pm ET

She and her husband know how the GOP think….and they know how to beat them.

Janet Pickett, Boston, MA   October 18th, 2007 12:12 pm ET

Dutchess County isn't upstate, it's barely north of the city. Trying to save on gas? Head into the Adirondacks or over to the Finger Lakes!

Jon, Pittsburgh, PA   October 18th, 2007 10:53 am ET

Hillary grew up in a Republican household. Was a Goldwater supporter. Took jobs working for women's and children's organizations rather than a big law firm. She has earned Republican support from New Yorkers because she has traveled to their communities, listened to their concerns and delivered. It's really pretty simple - she's effective and represents her constituents.

People will label her as whatever they like. The truth is in the details and results. Most are not interested in investigating the details and results. A pity really.

Daniel, Minneapolis MN   October 18th, 2007 10:16 am ET

Really, Ronnie from Knoxville? The polls don't seem to show that half of democrats hate her. In fact, it seems that most of the Independents are looking towards Senator Clinton for leadership as well. But what do those polls mean anyway, ha. I'm enjoying this turn of events. Normally it is the Democrats that are shaking in their boots….I have to say I quite enjoy watching the "conservatives" tremble.

Jim   October 18th, 2007 9:17 am ET

Obama just raised almost $1 million in one day.

Dutchess County is hardly upstate New York

Chris, Middletown, CT   October 18th, 2007 8:45 am ET

Thomas
Isn't that song "New York, New York" - I thought she lived in Arkansas? Why didn't she run for Senator there?? (wait….I think you know that answer already….)

Ben, Upstate New York   October 18th, 2007 8:30 am ET

Uhhhhhhhh WHAT? I know 0 republicans in upstate new york who like this woman. Not a single one. In fact, we all hate her.

I dont know who they interviewed in this, but i can tell you as an upstate new york republican….this little blurb CNN decided to throw up is not the opinion of 99% of upstate new york republicans.

Jim in upstate NY   October 18th, 2007 8:02 am ET

What a bunch of baloney! New York is so far to the left, I can guarantee she didn't win much of the Republican vote. It is purely a numbers game. Kudos to her for solidyfying the Democrat majority in NY, but let's not alter history and tell people she won over the Republican base. The Republicans didn't put up much of a fight against her in NY choosing to spend their campaign dollars where they had a chance. Certainly not in Democratic NY with all of her campaign dollars. Thanks for the line of crap CNN.

laurinda,ny   October 18th, 2007 7:42 am ET

ARSHAD..Dutchess CO. is still living in the past. Most of you still have well water. I am a Democrat living in Ulster which is even living futher in the past and I am voting for Hillary!

Kyu Reisch, Radcliff, Kentucky   October 18th, 2007 2:41 am ET

Daniel, recently several military retirees told me that they are Republican in whole their lives, but they will vote Hillary Clinton this time, I was so happy to hear that. I am sure they watched Debate and realized how Hillary is strong to change and lead this Country to the right direction.

ronnie - knoxville tn   October 18th, 2007 1:26 am ET

I do think charles in utah has something; think about hillary and her entitlement programs and higher taxes. For a decade we'll have fighting and extreeme partisanship . She will divide this country bitterly because half the democrats hate her and most of the conserv. hate her. sorry hillary fans, but you know it's true

Daniel   October 17th, 2007 11:49 pm ET

Clinton does have a lot of potential in red states. Today's poll from Kentucky of all states has her leading Rudy Giuliani!

Charles in Utah   October 17th, 2007 11:46 pm ET

Wise up, idiots. The only reason ANY Republican would pretend to support Hillary Clinton would be to savor the chance of running someone opposite her. Even the morons who follow Ron Paul think their Libertarian fuhrer has a chance against her — which might just be a toss up. She's a divider, not a healer. If the unthinkable happened and she ever became President, look forward to at least another decade of the bitter hatred and divisiveness that we've put up with for the past ten years. ANY other Democratic candidate would be an easy win in November. Hillary is a sure lose for everybody — whether she carries the vote or not.

ronnie - knoxville, tn.   October 17th, 2007 11:09 pm ET

every time I think about hillary with relation to ny, I just think of the word carpetbagger.

a.thomas, new york, ny   October 17th, 2007 10:43 pm ET

As the song goes:

She wants to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find she's queen of the hill, top of the heap…
If she can make it there
She'll make it anywhere

Hillary 08.

Arshad, New York, NY   October 17th, 2007 10:15 pm ET

So what's the point CNN? I din't hear anyone but one woman who said she even remotely consider Hillary based on who her opposition is. No one else said a single good word about her. By the way, I am a democrat living in Dutchess county. Senator Obama has my vote and it won't change regardless who his opponent is. Since you went to upstate, NY you could have asked them about Obama. May be you did but din't show it because the answers were not what you want people to know.

I see a HUGE headline on Hillary's lead on CNN based on just 307 samples. May I expect a headline saying the ONLY black governor of the nation, MA governor Deval Patric is endorsing Senator Obama. Can we be fair and professional in covering Obama headlines.

Tom Dedham, Mass   October 17th, 2007 9:46 pm ET

You have to be kidding me.

No other candidate actually DID or SAID ANYTHING today?

This is beyond pathetic, I feel for the other Democrats.
