Hillary opens up on romance with Bill

Sen. Clinton said she is 'really happy' she made the decision to stay with husband Bill.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton is quite the romantic husband, according to wife Hillary.

The Democratic presidential frontrunner discusses her relationship with her famous spouse in the latest issue of Essence Magazine, describing how the former president often showers her with gifts when returning from trips abroad.

"He's so romantic. He's always bringing me back things from his trips," the New York senator told the magazine. "He brought me a giant wooden giraffe from Africa. Oh, he bought me this watch…I had dental surgery, and he said it reminded him of teeth.”

Clinton adds she is "really happy" she decided to stay with her husband following the news of his affair in 1996 with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

"Obviously we've had challenges as everybody in the world knows," she told the magazine. “But I never doubted that it was a marriage worth investing in even in the midst of those challenges and I'm really happy that I made that decision."

"Again, not a decision for everybody," she continued. "And I think it's so important for women to stand up for the right of women to make a decision that is best for them.”

Clinton also describes her first impressions of the future president when passing him by chance at Yale Law School in 1971.

"I thought he was very attractive. I mean, he was tall. At the time he had long hair and a red beard. His hair was much more red-gold, and it was curly, and he had a vikingesque beard."

anyone will tell you that body language you see there is more palsy-welsy than romantic love. they can barely stand to touch one another; and the look on their faces is one of embarrassment. . .

Bill has had one affair after another and publicly dragged his marriage with Hillary through the mud. She's either a person of very little self respect and confidence or.... sticking with him because of what she can gain from him politically.

Has to be the later since she can't do it on her own. This woman is nothing without Bill.

If Hillary was a man she would be looked at as a strong and intelligent person. The kind of person that should be president. But those characteristics people don't like to see in women. Conservatives especially don't like to see a strong woman become leader of the country.

Also Hillary forgiving Bill makes me see her as an even greater person. It would take a lot to forgive a person who did that. This is the kind of thing Christians teach to do – forgive.

I notice you totally did not respond to my factual statement about Mitt Romney being married to one woman for over 35 years with NO cheating.

You either lied or are uninformed.

I guess you haven't been paying attention to these blogs as Hillary and Obama (who I like) and others have been out there talking about, gasp, family values.

Democrats have been talking about it for years, not beating it into the ground like Republicans, but they DO talk about "values" in front of "certain" crowds.

Nothing uptight about me, I am a realist, I can see FORGIVING someone for a single affair, twice is unfathomable, three and four is laughable and one would only have to take the blinders off to see why she stayed with him, she would not even be a Senator, let alone a presidential contender without his GREATNESS as a politician.

See, in my little world I can give props when deserved, but if you think I would ever consider giving these two anything resembling props as human beings, not happening.

I ignore the comments of the folk that wouldn't vote for Hillary if she were Mother Theresa..they are Republicans and thats just the way it is...I'm a Democrat and I can't imagine what any Republican can say that would make me vote Republican,,,but that is based on the Republican agenda not so much on the individual candidates...I'm sure some of those guys are alright people that I could sit down and be friends with. I just implore the Democrats that are on here to see the big picture...which is to have a Democratic president in office come 2008. Right or wrong I am voting for Hillary because i think she is our best shot. Does that mean I don't like Obama ...no...he seems like a intelligent, honest, engaging candidate...I just don't think he can win the general election. You have all the talk about wanting a fresh, new face in the white house..and I tell you the Republicans will have a field day on his experience issue, especially with the mess Bush is going to leave in Iraq and they're uncanny ability to play on people fears. So all I am saying is you might see Obama get in as the Democratic candidate( I don't put much on polls) and if thats all you want go for it, but if you want a Dem pres in the white house the best candidate of the two to get that accomplished is Hillary Clinton.

It is amazing how the right wing goof balls shower Hillary with crap she does NOT deserve. I suppose you'd prefer the cross dressing incestuous pervert Guiliani as your flag bearer on the issue of morality or perhaps the pedophiles and perverts this administration has spawned. I suggest changing the GOP (Grand Old Party) to the Gang Of Perverts. So Shut Up already you bunch of over the edge, right wing WING NUTS.

Why take the republican infidels out, and put democratic infidels in.?

Oh and infidel comes from infidelity.

And I am not part of the "vast right wing conspiracy" now renamed the "republican attack machine".

ok, once again.... WHOCARES? Does this have ANYTHING to do with the '08 election? wait, i'll answer that for you – no, it does not.

I'm sure a very high number of American husbands bring something back for their wife when they go on trips. Besides, I'm sure Bill is still trying to get out of the dog house... maybe once Hillary wins (dear god I hope not), he'll be out.

It's interesting that conservatives hold the sanctity of marriage above all else, and then attack a woman for not bailing on hers.

I think the reality is both what their greatest admirers believe – that the two both genuinely do care about each other – and also what their greatest critics bleieve – they have a strong political alliance.

Certainly the history of royalty and power is full of marriages, both arranged and chosen, for the purpose of political power or land acquisition.

Everyone needs to shut up about the Clintons' marriage. One, it has no bearing on her career (no, it doesn't - she is a smart, accomplished woman in her own right). Two, Hillary Clinton was/is as much an asset to her husband and he was to her. A smart man like BC does not marry a woman who doesn't have her own two legs to stand on and who isn't going to be an equal partner. So, no, theirs is not a marriage of her political convenience. Three, none of us knows what goes on in their marriage.

I have known people who have met Bill Clinton and he apparently is like a chick magnet. It's unfortunate for his wife, but he is evidently very charming and easy to like.

What says Hillary Clinton didn't fall for the same charms that other women do. Just because Bill Clinton has the roving eye does not mean that he does not love his wife or that he isn't romantic with her. It just means he is a difficult husband.

All of you who thinks this capable woman is undeserving of her candidady just don't vote for her. That's all. Her husband barely campaigns for her nowadays and we'll soon find out who is right about her abilities.

As for me and my house I extend my hope and best wishes to them. Vipers are the first to put theirself on pedestals by tearing their neighbors down ,instead of giving them support. But of course arrogants and belegerants from selfesh, puffed up, stiff-nects will strike as a serpent does.

I believe her. To those who say she stuck with Bill to advance her political career, you couldn't be more wrong. Bill is a liability and a huge detraction, for yes, his philandering among other things. She could do this all on her own, perhaps even better. Bill is in tow because they – at least she – still believes in their relationship. It's called love. Indeed. And sometimes it does transcend extramarital affairs and media scrutiny. Given all that, it's remarkable they are together. But it's also a winning conviction of her faith in family values. As she said in her memoirs, it's as simple as love. How many times must she repeat herself? She doesn't need to convince herself of anything.
