Hillary opens up on romance with Bill

Sen. Clinton said she is 'really happy' she made the decision to stay with husband Bill.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton is quite the romantic husband, according to wife Hillary.

The Democratic presidential frontrunner discusses her relationship with her famous spouse in the latest issue of Essence Magazine, describing how the former president often showers her with gifts when returning from trips abroad.

"He's so romantic. He's always bringing me back things from his trips," the New York senator told the magazine. "He brought me a giant wooden giraffe from Africa. Oh, he bought me this watch…I had dental surgery, and he said it reminded him of teeth.”

Clinton adds she is "really happy" she decided to stay with her husband following the news of his affair in 1996 with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

"Obviously we've had challenges as everybody in the world knows," she told the magazine. “But I never doubted that it was a marriage worth investing in even in the midst of those challenges and I'm really happy that I made that decision."

"Again, not a decision for everybody," she continued. "And I think it's so important for women to stand up for the right of women to make a decision that is best for them.”

Clinton also describes her first impressions of the future president when passing him by chance at Yale Law School in 1971.

"I thought he was very attractive. I mean, he was tall. At the time he had long hair and a red beard. His hair was much more red-gold, and it was curly, and he had a vikingesque beard."

The people that have posted negative comments about the Clinton's need to take a good, hard look at yourselves. I feel sorry for you miserable people.

Is there nothing that this powermad woman will say or do that deserves the slightest respect from any of us.

    This article sickens me.

If America had a King and Queen, William Jefferson Clinton and Hillary R Clinton would be our royalty. Bill and Hillary are the most loved and most reviled couple in the country.
Bill at his worst is 100 times better than Bush and Hillary, well, she is nonpariel. These two are an American treasure, much to the dismay of republicans.

    Jim – Atlanta,

You wrote, "At least, she has concrete proposals for solving problems."

Gee Jim – you really think Hillary is brilliant for finding new ways to spend $200 Billion a year?? Face it – you're just one of those bought-and-paid-for democrats licking your chops at the new ways Government will pay your bills.

Those of us who believe in personal responsibility, those that believe the American Dream still exists will fight the American Nightmare (Hillary's European Socialism).

    Matt R, FL:

You criticize how Hillary handled Bill's affair while frist lady. What exactly do you expect from her? She was about to be humiliated in front of an entire country. Something that is already painful personally was public. She stood strong and she represented the role of first lady with remarkable composure. Would it have been better for her to go on TV crying her eyes out lashing out against her husband. She did what a leading family should do during personal crises and she stayed strong and kept the pain and emotions she was going through to her self. I admired how she handled that situation and so did most Americans. She could have completely distratced the country more had she made it into a hollywood soap opera.

This makes me sick,,, the only reason she stayed with him is to run for office. What a sad way to live out your life for such a looser. Stuck with Bill and not President.

Despite Bill's scandelous affairs this family stayed together. Giuliani can say what he wants about Hillary but he can't touch this one. Giuliani and his wife have six(6) marriages between them and all their ex's are still living. If Giuliani's children won't support him, why should we, Chelsey was standing tall with her parents.

Hillary is the biggest phony in politics, and that's saying something. She's only about winning, not about what is true or false. Her supporters, desperate to have her win, are either the most gullible people that ever lived, or just as false as she is.

Now she's insulting our intelligence. Rangel, the POS, comes out knocking Guliani in the only thing that he can, his personal life and 3 wives. The next day she comes out with this nonsense.

Even if she does believe, why say it?

Wake up America! She's done nothing for NY as Senator, and she'll do nothing as POTUS!

Of course Clinton is romantic...Why do you think women flock to him? He is easy on the eyes, well spoken, intelligent. For the most part pretty down to earth and easy to talk with. I think most of the people here are just jealous of the success of this couple. Someone please tell me one marriage that doesnt have some type of issue and I will show you a couple who are leading separate lives.

Pl is correct why is it so wrong for Hillary to do what the men in politics have been doing for years?

With 20 comments posted so far 17– all from men–who don't like what they see or hear. That is not an encouraging ratio.
I understand where they come from. But I want to repeat it.
    Give women powersharing.
Learn a new kind of family life.
Give them the best of you, not just, as always, your dirty socks.

Hillary Clinton is a liar. She stayed with Bill for her own political agenda.Any woman who suffers world wide political humilation as she did at the hands of her husband and stays with her man, it just reeks like a political tactic, not one of love and forgiveness

Some of us have loved ones in Iraq. When are Americans going to realize that they are not at camp or visiting, leisurely? Do you have ANY idea what it is truly like?If you don't have any compassion, at least try to fake it. Please.

I don't think it's fair for people to say "well, she only stayed with him because he has political power."

Do those people really know that? No.

I personally think that it was a positive moral act for Hillary to decide to stick with her husband despite having every reason to leave him. When so many Christian marriages end in flames and divorce and lots of people (including conservatives) lament the state of America because of the divorce rate, it is a nice thing to see someone with the fidelity to stick with her husband despite his very public betrayal. Why must we judge her even for that?

I love Bill, and I love Hillary, but this sounds like political propaganda. Sorry Mrs. Clinton, but it seems like you're trying to throw an unseen human side into the relationship.

I really don't care about anyone's relationship. I want a president who has brains–the smarts to deal with the rest of the world, and our complicated domestic issues. I am so very tired of having an intellectual vacuum in the White House. If Bush had deliberately set out to systematically destroy our reputation around the world, he couldn't have done a better job than he's doing now. It's so very sad...

The only thing I find more comical than the fake sentiment on HRC's part is the negative feedback from men here – as if it's Hillary's fault her husband cheated on her; or maybe men here are saying that she's so much of an Ice Queen that she should have castrated him for it.

First, Bill Clinton is FAR from the first president in history to have an affair. Everyone talks about JFK as if he was the second coming of Christ. Not only did he cheat, but he was a regular at the dives in Las Vegas before becoming president and turning on the casino establishment. Second, Hillary and Chelsea were the victims, and the decision of whether to maintain the family would be no different than any other family going through the same thing – a private matter. Third, we as men would be hypocrits to say the least if we didn't admit that many of our relationships are over money/power; and gullable if we thought that women NEVER did the same.

Quite frankly, I'm betting there are some men here that are responding this way because it secretly scares and humbles some of them to imagine the smallest possibility that their own wives are still married to them for reasons other than love – i.e., image, money/security, loyalty to children, etc. As for the ladies, well... you have to admit there's some truth to the whole Desperate Housewives thing.

WHAT A JOKE. It's been documented that Bill has NEVER been faithful to her. This is just another political tactic and I can't believe anybody would be dumb enough to fall for it.

Hillary is disgusting with the stuff she's coming up with to get votes and position her campaign.

AMERICA CAN DO BETTER THAN HILLARY. Just about anybody would be better than this fake, self-servicing, self-centered egomaniac.

Argh, again with the Obama is so great talk. I read on some article that Obama's message is one of hope and faith, Hillary's is one of education and health care reform and Edwards talks about poverty. Tell me something:

What the heck does Edwards really know about poverty? I can't even consider this guy a serious contender, especially with the way his dragon of a wife keeps meddling in his campaign.

And Obama.. yeah, hope and faith is great and all, but how are you going to get our boys out of Iraq with hope and faith? How are you going to start fixing our economy? How are you going to help the health care crisis? How are you going to solve the problems with our education systems with hope and faith? I'm personally starting to get pretty tired of the "fluff and stuff" coming our of Feel Good Obama's campaign, and it wows me that so many people are buying into his talk about being the new face of politics even though he's playing just as dirty as the most old school politicians.

And Clinton. Yeah, she's not perfect. But you know what? There is NOTHING anyone has said against her that's worse than what could be said of any of the other candidates, including the would-be Saint Obama. I mean seriously.. stuck up, verbose, fake??? EVERY LAST ONE of these candidates is fake. She's the only one who's shown any sort of capacity for being a solid and competent president, and the blind lemmings of this country are too caught up in feel-good Obama-related nonsense to see it.

I'm just sad to see Clinton having to do the feel-good spiel in this campaign, instead of being able to focus exclusively on the pertinent issues at hand.

I think Mrs. Clinton did a wonderful thing with sticking with her marriage. The real reason we have a divorce rate around 50% is people treating marraiges as worthless and running off to get a divorce as soon as they hit a bump. I see nothing calculating about wanting to save your marraige.

All you cynics out there need to remember that nobody has the right to analyze what is the "perfect" relationship or the "correct" marriage. Work on your own relationships and leave Bill and Hillary alone.
