Romney open to Iran 'bombardment'

Watch Romney explain his approach to Iran.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (CNN) - Campaigning in the critical primary state of New Hampshire, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said Thursday that he would take “military action” against Iran if “strict economic and diplomatic sanctions” did not curtail that country’s nuclear buildup.

“Let their country know that they are a pariah,” Romney said firmly during a visit to a local hospital.

“If for some reason they continue down their course of folly toward nuclear ambition, then I would take military action if that's available to us. That's an option that's on the table.”

“I really can't lay out exactly how that would be done, but we have a number of options, from blockade to bombardment of some kind….[F]rankly, I think it's unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons."

Romney reiterated that he also supported strict sanctions and other forms of international pressure to prevent Iran’s nuclear buildup. He also said he would seek to indict Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad under the U.N.’s Genocide Convention.

    Nice headline CNN!

Romney said, "“I really can't lay out exactly how that would be done, but we have a number of options, from blockade to bombardment of some kind….[F]rankly, I think it's unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons."

A more responsible headline: "Romney against Iran having nuclear weapons"

No – that might be too fair-handed. "Romney to bomb Iran" – yeah that better pushes your agenda, CNN.

It's sad to know that with talk like this, my kids probably won't see their adult years.

Can we just 'bombard' Romney instead? And all the other warmongerers while we're at it.

Once again, this is getting so old. Who are we to dictate who and who does not have a nuclear weapon? I don't hear Romney getting shrill about Pakistan's nukes, or Israel's for that matter. Just because the right has officially sanctioned Iran as an enemy of the USA does not make it so. You never hear about Iran threatening the USA, we're the ones doing all the threatening. Maybe Romney could also explain what military we will be attacking Iran with, since ours is currently stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Are we going to start hiring foreign conscripts to fight in new wars for us?

Perhaps your neighbor in Murfreesboro, TN will start stock piling assault rifles, grenades, and other weaponry. And perhaps they'll tell you and others to keep off their land and how they hate the "Jewish" neighbor down the street.

Yeah – you just keep quiet and don't complain or do anything about it. Better to not get involved. In fact, plant a garden so you will have flowers to lay at the doorstep when your Jewish neighbor is murdered.

What a great neighbor and friend, you are Pixie!

Well, the Bear, i.e., the USSR, and the Eagle, i.e, the USA, have made peace. Now, we are seeing this powerderkeg happen in the middle east...and now its let's bomb bomb bomb Iran! Guess my friend was right. God help us all.

With the Clinton surplus spent and billions added to our national debt, exactly what we don't need to yet another theatre of war. Isn't Iraq and Afganistan enough without yet another war? Romney is an idiot.

If Iran was intereseted in peaceful nuclear power they wouldn't be so insistent on enriching their own fuel.
Israel will deal with Iran before we do, they can't afford to let Iran have a nuke.

Did I miss an election? When did the world decide that the United States was the sole decider in who gets to lead a country, whole gets to develop nuclear power and who gets to develop weapons of total destruction as the US is. As in the lead up to the Iraq war, the United Nations is questioning the US intelligence and conclusions.

You have become a very dangerous country!!

Romney is supported by both parties in Congress. Clinton is said all options are on the table as well as majority leaders in both chambers of congress.

How ironic (and hypocritical) that Romney wants to try Ahmadinejad under the UN Genocide convention -when he stated last week that he wants to disband the UN! I guess, for the moment, it suits his agenda. At least the UN had it right when they said Iraq had no WMDs -but that didn't fit with any Republican agenda, either.

dont be stupid. when ahmadenajajajadjajd came to speak at columbia, there was a parade and on a missile were the words "death to america." Im by no means the smartest man on the block, but that sounds like a threat to me. Cant be said enough if the "islamo extremist political party" have it their way we in the west who dont want to practice islam will be killed, right after the athiests, and gays.

Iran is threatinging us with the possible-likely-almost certain- gathering threat of a covert military-terrorist-against our 1% of U.S. families' legacy interests.

Pakistan, India, Israel, Russia, France, Brazil, our "superfund" waste-sites we'd rather not have to worry our little heads about those possibilities!

I'm privately glad that he offered his opinion to help with my voting decisions. One more person to cross off presidential candidate list. For the sake of the United States' and its welfare, I do wish that he hadn't tried to irritate another Middle East country. There are enough other countries' leaders and citizens who are opposed to the United States attempt to "make a difference".

Until Romney has at least 3 of his son's in Iraq-he should be the last person talking about going to war. Who is the US to dictate to other countries?

“I really can't lay out exactly how that would be done, but we have a number of options, from blockade to bombardment of some kind…"

Romeny can't really lay it out, because he has ZERO military experience.

In addition he has ZERO international experience. He may be good at building a bank account, but what good is money, if it is nuked?

    Typical MittSpeak.

He has five able-bodied sons and not one has ever served in the military.

Amazing how these tough-talking warhawks are so ready to send someone elses kid off to war.

    This man is BAD news.
