Watch Kucinich explain his UFO experience.

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — So if there are space aliens, can they register to vote?

Perhaps Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich is courting their support, discussing a UFO sighting in Tuesday night’s debate.

He confirmed an account in actress Shirley MacLaine’s book that he saw a UFO at her home in Washington state. Though he didn’t address the rest of her description, that the Ohio congressman “felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind.”

Kucinich said to moderator Tim Russert’s question, “It was an unidentified flying object, OK? It's, like, it's unidentified. I saw something.”

To laughter, he added, “I'm also going to move my campaign office to Roswell, New Mexico, and other one in Exeter, New Hampshire, OK? And also, you have to keep in mind that more — that Jimmy Carter saw a UFO and also that more people in this country have seen UFOs than I think approve of George Bush's presidency.”

Rival candidate Barack Obama, asked if he believes in life on other planets, responded, “You know, I don't know. And I don't presume to know. What I know is there is life here on Earth, and that we're not attending to life here on Earth.”

“We're not taking care of kids who are alive and unfortunately are not getting health care," Obama continued. "We're not taking care of senior citizens who are alive and are seeing their heating prices go up. So, as president, those are the people I will be attending to first."

"There may be some other folks on their way," he added.

The Democratic presidential candidates next square off November 15 at CNN's debate in Las Vegas.

If Kucinich had thought it was an alien spacecraft, he would not have called it "unidentified".

i believe him. maybe a week ago i would have thought he was a nut. UFOs are real you people wont believe it till you see one. i did….

Reagan always consulted an astrologer while he was president.

Kucinich saw something not identifiable – so?

Bob - Memphis, TN   November 2nd, 2007 7:09 pm ET

I have to agree with what someone else said:

I have lost respect for Tim Russert and NBC News. The UFO question was unfair, unrelated, and a complete waste of valuable time that could have been used to address important issues.

I have seen UFO's, my Republican father has seen UFO's, tens of thousands have reported them, and it is ridiculous to argue against the existence of that which is not identified.

The important thing is that Dennis Kucinich believes in the United States of America, he has the experience to lead, and he shares the values of those who want real change.

I thought Tim Russert had personal integrity, but in this example, he clearly let down the public and made himself look foolish.

Get real America, our country's future lies in the balance.

LB, Franklin Lakes, NJ   November 1st, 2007 5:45 pm ET

The yahoos on this blog who say or imply Kucinich is crazy for seeing a UFO is what scares me about the voters of this country. These are unthinking people. Do they really believe the we humans are the only life in the entire universe? How arrogant and 15th century.

Kucinich didn't say he saw little green men. He didn't say God spoke to him like our president did. He saw an object flying in the sky he couldn't identify, hence the term unidentified flying object – UFO.

And the thing is, he didn't lie about it. But the the great clueless out there call him crazy. This is why Bush is the president.

Tennessee Tuxsedo   November 1st, 2007 3:34 pm ET

Normally, he spent his time as "Shoe Shine Boy". But when he takes one of his super power pills, he transformed into Underdog and saves his love interest, new age, tongue-pierced Sweet Red Elizanée Harper Purebred.

There's no need to fear, Kuci is here. I am a hero who never fails. I cannot be bothered with such details.

His nemesis Bush, Simon Bar Sinister the mad scientist.
Cheney, the anthropomorphic wolf gangster, Riff Raff.
But Underdog, I mean Kuci, also faces enemies from alien worlds too, just like real life. There’s the evil Granite Planet, the Magnet Planet, the Planet of Zot, and the Saucer Planet.

When criminals in this world appear, And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear, The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!
Speed of lightning! Roar of thunder! Fighting all who rob or plunder!
Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

He makes me sick..

Jim Topeka, Kansas   November 1st, 2007 9:03 am ET

Don't like Kucinich, but he definetly has brought out the nuts.

Robert Rochester, MN   November 1st, 2007 7:28 am ET

And Bush believes God talks to him. I wonder how many of you mocking Kucinich, the best candidate running, believe in an invisible man in the sky, or virgin births, or people being raised from the dead, or seas parting, or burning bushes talking, or special incantations which can improve one's health, finances, love life, etc.
Silly beliefs abound. That doesn't disqualify the believer from being a competent leader.

Denise,Patton ,Missouri   November 1st, 2007 4:26 am ET

Its funny how as soon as Kucinich said
He wanted the impeachment of bush.He was thrown the UFO question. Why do some of you denie life on another planet somewhere. You don't know.
Do you realiy believe we are all there is.That makes me laugh and think your the pea brain.

Allan, Longwood, FL   November 1st, 2007 2:20 am ET

Anyone denying this mans experience and fascination of what he saw is naive at best. Were you there? What does anyone know about anything? If you can tell me the significance of the endless universe and our place in it, can then judge what he saw.

Matt, OH   October 31st, 2007 8:25 pm ET

I still have yet to understand how this is so crazy to many of you. Seriously please explain it to me. If theres something in the sky that you cant identify its "unidentified". whooooaaa, pretty crazy concept huh? Also there is life out there besides Earth, most scientists believe that too, so while its far fetched to think intelligent life would come here, its not impossible. Frankly, I would hope a president one day has the guts to increase funding to find life outside of earth and find new places we can colonize.

Some of you just need to grow up and use your heads. It disgusts me that many of you are ALLOWED to vote with some of these comments. no wonder our country is going downhill.

Richard, West Palm Beach, FL   October 31st, 2007 7:21 pm ET

"We have proof that something is mentally wrong with this man Kucinich."
– — –
We have NO PROOF whatsoever that this incident shows Kucinich is mentally wrong. He said he saw an UNIDENTIFIED flying object. EVERY PERSON has seen unidentified objects and said "What was that?". He did not say that he saw a flying saucer or aliens. He should be judged by what he actually said rather than what people HOPE he said.

Kucinich is certainly not the first person who questioned the mental state of the president who kept saying "we are stay the course in Iraq" and then said "we were never stay the course". Bush insisted Rumsfeld would stay. He also said he wasn't concerned about bin Laden and then claimed he never said it. These sudden reversals in comments either indicate mental issues or believe that his supporters wouldn't know the difference.

JTR, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada   October 31st, 2007 7:19 pm ET

don't worry…if there's any aliens, Lou Dobbs will keep them out.

Brian   October 31st, 2007 6:59 pm ET

We have people like this, omg i was waiting for the answer to be given last night from him. I about fell off my chair i thought at first he was going to explain something then he said yes I did, Im laughing, what a Kooky Kook, they said Obama is a secret muslim, but that worries me,it truly does,i wont vote for him because he won't anwser the question, he stumbles on it.and the President might have mental problems,Our country is in dire need and we accept this crap,I think all the American citzens should run Our Country.no elected officials,

Chris San Francisco, CA   October 31st, 2007 6:28 pm ET

I don't know what is more strange: Dennis Kucinich seeing a UFO or Dennis (1%) Kucinich believing he is still relevant.

J. Cooper, Dayton Ohio   October 31st, 2007 6:01 pm ET

With respect to DK's UFO experience-Apparently the following is an abridged account of his quote within the Shirley book, “…felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind.” I'm not saying that he didn't see something, however, I think everyone should be just a little curious as what the 'voices' told him to do…

EUNICE, MARYLAND, U.S.A.   October 31st, 2007 5:44 pm ET

I told you so. He said it with his own mouth that if nothing is wrong with Bush then, there is something wrong with him (Kucinich) and here goes the answer to his question. We have proof that something is mentally wrong with this man Kucinich. He is such a looser. That is why he is so bitter toward our Great President George W. Bush. God bless President Bush.

Uwe Warkholdt, Elliot Lake, Northern Ontario, Canada   October 31st, 2007 5:22 pm ET

I think it would be very conceited to think that we are the only inhabited planet in this entire universe.

For someone with his political ambitions to admit to this with the possibility that some folks might think he is a "nut", I believe he saw something that is unexplained. Yet what he saw might have been a natural phenomenon and not from outer space.

But then again it might have been. After all it is Halloween

trent porter, tx   October 31st, 2007 5:08 pm ET

wow, this is the second biggest reason not to take Dennis Kucinich seriously. the first reason is his gun-grabbing ideas. what a fool

Cable King Pittsburgh PA   October 31st, 2007 5:00 pm ET

DC is an idealist who has SOME good things to say and of course he is also a goof (not dangerous like some other goofs). More than the aforementioned he can also be entertaining!

Reggie, Jonestown, TX   October 31st, 2007 4:59 pm ET

Folks, he saw an unidentified flying object, not extra-terrestrials. Can you tell the difference between a helicopter and an airplane at 20 miles?…at night? Probably not. Guess what? That makes it a ufo.

Mitch, Eureka, CA   October 31st, 2007 4:50 pm ET

A person who claims to see something in the sky that he could not identify is not automatically crazy. People beleive and see diffrent things. Now if he started using tax payers money to investigate these UFO's then thats a diffrent story.

J. Cooper, Dayton Ohio   October 31st, 2007 4:40 pm ET

Dear Dennis, you need to work closer with your campaign strategist…If this was a last ditch effort to raise ratings I think you blew it… Good luck!

Karen,ny   October 31st, 2007 4:38 pm ET

Just because YOU haven't seen them that doesn't MEAN that OTHER PEOPLE haven't seen them. You can't see AIR but it's there. You can't see GOD but you think he's there. I can't stand it when people ridicule others because they don't believe. People aren't going to make up something like that so people will laugh at you. He was honest enough to say what he saw and I give him alot of credit for doing that. I respect honesty!!! If more people were honest in this world it would be a much better place to live.

Matt, Columbus, OH   October 31st, 2007 4:31 pm ET

You guys need to calm down. This whole thing is getting blown way out or proportion. It was a stupid and unfair question and he was just joking around about it. Kucinich is the most honest candidate up there and before you start questioning his sanity, find out the issues he stands for. His ideas are progressive and could take this country in a positive direction. STOP LETTING THE MEDIA DECIDE WHO WILL BE PRESIDENT FOR US!

mark wilkes barre pa   October 31st, 2007 4:26 pm ET

dennis should run for president of mars or better yet way out there ,, pluto. then his buddy shirly could really cover some distance when she astro projects her self over for a visit,, beam me up dennis !!!! dont throw stones at glass houses dennis, you might see a UFO in the reflection

Dan, Seattle, WA   October 31st, 2007 4:02 pm ET

I was hoping Dennis would pull out a pocket UFO and explain the intricacies of alien life. What else will he pull out of his pocket?

John, West Chester, PA 19380   October 31st, 2007 3:52 pm ET

lol … always thought this guy was an alien.. wonder if he is illegal

Kenny   October 31st, 2007 3:51 pm ET

Space Aliens? Don't you mean Undocumented Interplanetary Immigrants?

Doug, New Jersey   October 31st, 2007 3:49 pm ET

Dennis did see a UFO!!!

After the democratic debate he saw Hillary take off on her broom. :)

John   October 31st, 2007 3:46 pm ET

Big deal. Watch the documentary channels' UFO specials. When they bring in ex-military or aviation contractors, they'll say that experimental or secret military aircraft (like the SR-71, F-117 and other planes we didn't want our enemies to know about) are often described by those without clearance as Unidentified Flying Objects, because that's the only way they can be described. UFO does not equal alien spaceship, but it's certainly a good smokescreen for top secret development and flights.

Now if he said he saw a UFO that landed on his lawn and it had little green aliens with tentacles staring at him through the windows, then I'd have to wonder…

I Am Snow, Tampa Florida   October 31st, 2007 3:45 pm ET

I think what he actually saw was a giant spleen with eleven elbows flying across the horizon smelling the tulips!

Richard Anderson, Detroit MI   October 31st, 2007 3:42 pm ET

This was too easy. I knew the answer before I even looked. Only because he acts and talks like he's from another planet. And, I bet the one he saw was the one that dropped him off as they flew away as fast as they could! Like dumping out the trash! LOL

Ryan, Provo, UT   October 31st, 2007 3:39 pm ET

There is nothing to criticize here. He said that he saw an unidentified flying object. He didn't claim it was full of little green Martians or anything like that. He just said he saw something he couldn't identify.

I saw a UFO once. It was simply a flying object that was pretty different from planes I'd seen before and to this day I still don't know for sure what it was. I doubt it was anything extraterrestrial, it was probably a military test plane or something but it was by definition a UFO.

Lots of people have seen things like that and it shouldn't disqualify anyone for the position of President.

Jaq Phule   October 31st, 2007 3:38 pm ET

Misquote, mischaracterize, misunderstand for us, okay?

Yep. Smear the antiwar guy for seeing a flying object which he could not identify. Shall we even begin talking about the insane things that Bush believes? Clinton? Biden?

CNN, you're fired. I'm cancelling my RSS feed, removing the link from my favorites, not watching your news channel, and advising everyone I know to do the same. Congratulations, you've joined FAUX on my too-stupid-even-for-journalism list.

richard, virginia   October 31st, 2007 3:24 pm ET

of course cnn doesn't mention anywhere how he has risen to 7% in the national poll and came in 2nd yesterday at a leading straw poll in California.

They also seem to have failed to miss what Kucinich said previously to the UFO account. The whole night, he was the only candidate candid enough and ballsy enough to stick to his word and lay his policies on the table.

There is no doubt in my mind that MSNBC used this question as a way to skew his debate and his personal views. Can't believe the biased media that goes on in this country. Hey CNN what about all the extremely legit claims Kucinich made earlier throughout the night?

UGH! American politics, cliche and predictable as usual.

Michael, Seattle, WA   October 31st, 2007 3:24 pm ET

haha,it's amazing how many people applauded Kucinich for questioning Bush's mental health, meanwhile the congressman is wrapping foil around his head to try to keep the aliens from reading his mind.

Paul Campbell, San Diego California   October 31st, 2007 3:24 pm ET

Did you guys consider the fact that maybe some open mindedness could do some good on Capital Hill. This guy is at least being honest. When did honesty oust you from politics? Oh wait, there is no honesty in politics…….yet! Having some real people in office might be the cure to some of the ills we've been facing for at least the last 8yrs.
I'm not saying that I'll vote for him, but at least his balls are bigger than the rest of them. Don't you think it's a bit egocentric to think we are the only life forms out there. That's right, some of you prob. don't think global warming is our problem…..

Bill Champaign Illinois   October 31st, 2007 3:23 pm ET

Kucinich thinks that Bush has mental problems? I think he's the one that needs mental help. Who needs a president thats been beamed up??!! Give it up Dennis.

Brad Eureka, CA   October 31st, 2007 3:22 pm ET

The question was LAME, just like the coverage it's getting here. The real headline was Kucinich calling for impeachment. I guess if Bush got a BJ, we'd be impeaching him. But getting thousands of people killed… who cares?

CNN has no credibility.

Brian, Cleveland, OH   October 31st, 2007 3:15 pm ET

I agree with John from KY.

Extraterrestrial life is somehow more ridiculous than belief in an omnipotent magical dictator? In the Republican party we have 3 candidates who don't believe in evolution. There's more crazy to go around than we would all like to admit.

Jonathan, Birmingham, AL   October 31st, 2007 3:03 pm ET

UFO, by definition, simply means and "unidentified flying object". If you look up in the sky and see something that you don't recognize as a plane or a star or anything else in your internal database of knowledge, then it is an object, it's flying in some way, and you can't identify it. Whether or not there is an earthly explanation is another thing altogether. But, it is a UFO. Now, concerning whether or not it is an alien craft, or whether life even exists on other planets, is another issue altogether. But, the best evidence for life on other planets is that there is life here on earth. I don't know if any of that alien life has visited us, but it would be tremendously ego-centric to believe that we are the only life in the universe.

Richard, West Palm Beach, FL   October 31st, 2007 3:03 pm ET

People making fun of Kucinich have completely lost the point. His comment was "It was an unidentified flying object, OK? It's, like, it's unidentified. I saw something.”

Get real, people. He did NOT say he saw a flying saucer with little green men. He said he saw an UNIDENTIFIED flying object. He couldn't tell what it was. There could have been many explanations for it. He never said it came from outer space; he just saw something in the air that was not immediately identifiable. Everyone has seen things they couldn't identify at first. This is no different.

I'm not a Kucinich fan, but it's really stupid to hang him for a completely honest statement. He said he couldn't identify it and you are insisting that he could? Grow up!

R   October 31st, 2007 3:02 pm ET

Ben Winchester VA   October 31st, 2007 3:01 pm ET

With those Big Ears I believe he could take us to his leader. Beam us up kuchinich you idiot.

Brendan, Arizona   October 31st, 2007 2:55 pm ET

Why is this presented by CNN.com and other news websites as humorous?

Polls suggest more than 2/3 of Americans genuinely believe in UFOs, and the possibility of life outside of the boundaries of earth.

It is not taken seriously by the media which is a travesty, this is one of the most important issues of our time: Are we alone?

How is it supposed to be presented in a serious way and taken seriously when so called 'news' outlets make fun of it?

Come on, can you actually cover something in an unbiased manner, or do you have to put a spin on everything.

Johnny Swany   October 31st, 2007 2:51 pm ET

Also, UFO's are seen all the time, the man did not say that he saw aliens or believed in them, he merely said he saw something in the night sky that was unidentifiable based on his knowledge. What is wrong with that? I've seen things in the sky that I don't know what they were, but I don't think they were aliens. Someone else stated a weather balloon possibly. You clearly are trying to make him look like a loon which is morally disgusting and is part of what is wrong with the median as a general resource, cause someone has their hand in your pockets, you have an agenda. Too bad everyone already knows.

m T   October 31st, 2007 2:49 pm ET

Report the real news!

Sibel Edmonds has just offered to break state secrets gag orders on her in exchange for an unedited interview. You would think this would be news in a supposedly free society!

FBI translator and whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, the most gagged person in the history of the USA is willing to face charges, and wants to name names of people still in our Congress and government who were involved in corruption and TREASON prior to 9/11.

Stop hiding the real news with fluff like this story!

Mike S., New Orleans, Louisiana   October 31st, 2007 2:48 pm ET

I like Barack Obama more everytime I read something like this. He doesn't waste a lot of time giggling, but always gets right to the heart of the matter.

Johnny Swany   October 31st, 2007 2:47 pm ET

Excuse me, but there was a Democratic Presidential Debate televised last night for two hours and the only mention of it is a weak attempt to make this poor man look crazy? Wow Cnn.com, your moral standards are reprehensible in the words of another blowhard Joe Buck. How bout a story about Obama and Edwards sticking it to the cnn lovechild Clinton? She looked like a moron last night. Thank You.

CNB   October 31st, 2007 2:47 pm ET

C'mom folks. Listen to what he said. He did not say he saw a flying saucer or an alien spaceship. He said he saw a UFO. UFO= Unidentified Flying Object. It does not equal spaceship. Military flyers and commercial pilots report UFO's all the time. They see something…they can't identify it…hence, it is an Unidentified Flying Object.

Science fiction has caused us to equate UFO with spaceship.

Why is it that when some one admits seeing a UFO people react like if the person is a wacko? I do not agree with Kucinich's politics, nor will I ever vote for him, but most likely he did see a UFO. Maybe he saw some test aircraft from the military of any country, or a real spacecraft from a galaxy far away ….

PollM, Dallas Tx   October 31st, 2007 2:30 pm ET

I believe Dennis Kucinich was caught off guard, his response was substandard. He obviously mishandled the situation. He failed to explain his position.

Good grief! A UFO is simply something someone sees in the sky that is moving and is not readily identified or identifiable. It could have been…well..a bird…a plane…but probably not some alien spaceship or Superman. He tried, unsuccessfully—unless you were listening very closely over the media banter—to say (paraphrased), "I saw something, I couldn't identify it, so it was a UFO." Big Deal Out of Nothing!!

Any other politician would lie to try to keep from doing damage to their political career, but you won't hear Dennis Kucinich lie. How refreshing!

I guess the critics would rather have a President that lies to the people? Well, that's what we're used to, right? Well, I am certainly ready for an honest President that can't be bought, and the only choice for Peace-loving, free-thinking Democrats is Kucinich.

Jeremy Vaeni, New York, NY   October 31st, 2007 2:21 pm ET

The piece that everyone missed is this: Even if he's joking about moving his offices to New Mexico and Exeter, New Hampshire, well… almost everyone knows what Roswell is in reference to, but you have to be fairly well-versed in ufology to know that Exeter is the spot where Betty & Barney Hill were abducted. That abduction became the template, if you will, of modern abduction accounts.

Anyone who scoffs at this stuff doesn't know what they're talking about. Listen to authentic alien abductees in discussion at blog.valiens.com and then tell me we're all nuts. I promise you we're not all tin-foil-hatters.

Unidentified Flying Object means just that. It doesn't necessarily mean aliens or flying saucers. Now the possiblity of their being other intelligent life forms somewhere else in the universe pretty high. How could we be the only planet in this HUGE place that was able to create life? Now the idea that they visit us is a little far fetched but hey, no one really knows. Who are we to judge? Just because something extraordinary doesn't happen to everyone doesn't mean it didn't to someone else. Give the guy a break.

I think that it is absurd and narrow-minded to believe that somehow in this dust cloud in which we exist that other forms of intelligent life do not exist. When I think of the infinite proposition of the physical universe as we may or may not perceive it, I tend to think that it would be impossible that intelligent life on Earth is a random, one-in-infinity occurance.

As far as intelligent life visiting Earth, I tend to believe that there is an overwhelming amount of circumstantial evidence that suggests that extra-terrestrials have visited and continue to visit this planet. Hell, a UFO was reported at O'Hare Airport just a year ago.

Ronson Manchild, Colorado   October 31st, 2007 2:06 pm ET

I have lost respect for Tim Russert and NBC News. The UFO question was unfair, unrelated, and a complete waste of valuable time that could have been used to address important issues.

I have seen UFO's, my Republican father has seen UFO's, tens of thousands have reported them, and it is ridiculous to argue against the existence of that which is not identified.

The important thing is that Dennis Kucinich believes in the United States of America, he has the experience to lead, and he shares the values of those who want real change.

I thought Tim Russert had personal integrity, but in this example, he clearly let down the public and made himself look foolish.

Get real America, our country's future lies in the balance.

m T   October 31st, 2007 2:04 pm ET

Typical of the corrupt mainstream media to avoid real news and issues and instead fling this garbage.

Where is the news about Sibel Edmonds wanting an interview? She just offered to break state secret gag orders and name ALL the names that came up in translation at her position of the FBI prior to 9/11 of the corruption and compromised people still in the U.S.government and Congress.

P.S. CNN learn to use a spell checker or hire someone who can spell "laughter."

Ginger, Cleveland, Ohio   October 31st, 2007 2:01 pm ET

Mr. K–You are something else.

Max, Boston, MA   October 31st, 2007 1:59 pm ET

Seeing an unidentified flying object is not equivalent to encountering a space alien. It's seeing something that's flying, asking "What is that?", and not having an answer.

I question the mental health of those who can't comprehend that.

Mike, Columbus, OH   October 31st, 2007 1:57 pm ET

Keeping in mind that this is a blog and that people have the right to their own opinions, I feel a connection in my heart and mind that is forcing me to write this.. Dennis…buddy!!! I can be as accepting as the next guy but WOW! A UFO, huh? Might it have been an airplane? A satelite?

Move along, Mr. Kucinich.. We don't buy crazy here.. Maybe they do on the planet from which your UFO hovered…

Ralf   October 31st, 2007 1:55 pm ET

Yeah, but is there "Intelligent" life on Earth? Apparently not.

Johny, Nebraska   October 31st, 2007 1:54 pm ET

How can he know that it was not be a meteorology balloon ?

Lee M, Somerset, NJ   October 31st, 2007 1:54 pm ET

Poor Dennis! Too bad he wont be able to return home with his friends until Hale Bopp returns in the year 4380.

Moe, NY   October 31st, 2007 1:50 pm ET

I think Kucinich and MacLaine should send these aliens to New York State and our present Governor will issue them a driver's license.

Jake, Dallas, TX   October 31st, 2007 1:49 pm ET

Hey CNN here is a news story that is right up your alley if you know what I mean…

http://www.kxly.com/news/?sect_rank=1&section_id=559&story_id=15425

ET, Cumberland, Maryland   October 31st, 2007 1:45 pm ET

Kucinich really expects that we will give him serious consideration during the primary?

ET call home, Kook-cinich go home !!!!

Jonathan Simeone Seattle, Wa   October 31st, 2007 1:44 pm ET

The saddest part of this is that the Democratic candidates had their best debate of the year last night, but CNN refuses to cover it, because it was on another network. Instead, CNN talks about the dumbest question of the night and the most out of touch candidate in the race. Way to go CNN! Thanks for helping make sure that the public gets all of the needed information to make a good choice in the primaries.

Bob, San Francisco, CA   October 31st, 2007 1:37 pm ET

This was a stupid question to ask at a presidential candidate's "debate", especially when so many crucial issues need to be addressed.
That said, what's the big deal? Like a few previous posters have already mentioned, Bush talks to God. That's just as preposterous as seeing a UFO. And Dennis actually handled it with humor. He's got some good ideas, but he's definitely too wacky to be taken serious as a presidential candidate. Obama did just fine!

SBR, Rockville, MD   October 31st, 2007 1:36 pm ET

"did you know that many companies offer healthcare benefits??" Yes Many do but don't lump Walmart in with them because their employees that are the lowest paid don't qualify for their healthcare plans because they don't work enough hours and most of them are below the poverty line so to ask them to pay for anything is a bit steep. Personally though I think that Cigerettes should be a prescription that is price beyond anyone's reach, after all it's a prescription for health issues. As for the Dems handing out money the Reps do it too just to corporations instead of individuals. Look at all the money that the Contractors in Iraq are making which is OUR TAX DOLLARS! Meanwhile many many many of our military families are living off of food stamps. That the Republicans at work.

BTW Kucinich might be a nut but he's no worse than the one that is currently in the White House that an advocate for invading other countries.

Anita, Troy MI   October 31st, 2007 1:36 pm ET

So I bet all you guys think that it would have been acceptable if he'd said he'd seen "the face of god" or had a conversation with Jesus. Your imaginary friends are no better than his.

Gabe, Clifton, NJ   October 31st, 2007 1:35 pm ET

Oh please!!! You guys are so full of yourselves to think you are alone. Cmon already!!!

Bubba the UFO Watcher, Swainsboro GA   October 31st, 2007 1:35 pm ET

I once saw a big red triangle in the night sky, and I wasn't the only person who pulled my car off to look. We'd be wondering still if the newspaper hadn't told us it was neon gas coming out of a satellite and being lit by ionization.

Christian, Red State, USA   October 31st, 2007 1:34 pm ET

To all right-wingers here:

what does seeing or believing in UFOs has to do with mental health? People believe totally different things, including that God tells them to kill gays or that we should attack Iraq.

Ok? omg…you must have believed in santa claus…you need urgetn mental health help!!!!
go back listen to Rush

Brad, Omaha NE   October 31st, 2007 1:32 pm ET

i think its funny that you guys call him crazy for believing in aliens.

my thought it that if you can keep it in the realm of possibility that there is some "all-knowing-all-powerful-man-in-the-sky' watching over us, then you must also keep it in within the realm of possibilty that aliens and unicorns exist.

none of these things is provable beyond the shadow of doubt… except alien life… thats real… and only a matter of time before its proven to be fact.

call him crazy, but call god-fearers crazy too.

Drew, Twin Cities, MN   October 31st, 2007 1:31 pm ET

This is actually a genius move by the Republicans. Make sure to have somebody that's nuts in the running to make the rest look normal by comparison.

Kinda like the Democrats with Clinton.

…What? You thought I was going to be partisan about it?

E. C., Houston, Texas   October 31st, 2007 1:31 pm ET

Dennis Kucinich is bonafide NUTZ! He claims now that he saw a UFO? Go figure….this guy is off the wall!

Doug White Abington, PA   October 31st, 2007 1:30 pm ET

And he said that Bush had a mental health problem?

Chris, Middletown, CT   October 31st, 2007 1:27 pm ET

To Chris from Middletown, CT:

Oh yeah parental/personal responsibility. Nothing knew with you right-wingers.
So you are willing to penalize a child by denying him/her healthcare if his/her parents turn out to be lazy people who willingly choose not to work. How is that kid's fault?
What about your personal responsibility when it comes to corporations? Citi bank begging government to bail it out now but according to your free market principles it should go bankrupt as they were acting irresponsibly.

Andy again..WHATS DOES UFOs have to do with anything? Who cares??? Bush listens to God who tells him to attack Iraq! and possibly Iran now…speak about mental health here…right wingers

jw, canadian,ok   October 31st, 2007 1:25 pm ET

Hey, I woke last Sunday morning with a woman from what had to be outer space -UGLY.

Anonymous   October 31st, 2007 1:25 pm ET

Kuci, kuci, kooky Kucinich..

S. Wright   October 31st, 2007 1:22 pm ET

I think that the word everyone is looking for regarding Mr. Kucinich is "certifiable".

E   October 31st, 2007 1:20 pm ET

Liberalism is truly a mental disorder.

Sophie, Baton Rouge, Louisiana   October 31st, 2007 1:05 pm ET

Wow the debate must have been a mess last night. Too bad I missed it.

Jen, Boston MA   October 31st, 2007 12:52 pm ET

The only alien around here is you, Dennis. You're the strange creature from another land that nobody understands. Beam back to space for all our sakes, man.

Bob, Seattle, WA   October 31st, 2007 12:51 pm ET

Seeing a UFO may have been Mr. Kucinich's only moment ever of complete lucidness.

Charles - Portland, Me.   October 31st, 2007 12:49 pm ET

…..and this guy questions President Bush's mental health?

Consider the source.

George, Lockhart, TX   October 31st, 2007 12:40 pm ET

And this guy questions Bush's mental health? Right….

Phil Chicago, Ill   October 31st, 2007 12:32 pm ET

Kucinich is PROOF that extraterrestrial life exists!

Chris, Middletown, CT   October 31st, 2007 12:13 pm ET

Did you know that many companies offer healthcare benefits?? (Walmart….Staples….Starbucks – just to name a few….) – I always see the "its for the children" bills….and they always seen to cover more than people (under 18) – and they also don't require any co-payment….say we covered 10 million kids….give them a plan…NOT FOREVER EITHER….and make them "pay a portion of their pay….whether its 1, 2, 5 dollars per visit….many don't seem to have issues affording a pack of smokes….that would contribute anywhere from 10-50 million back to the program….Dems seem to like handing out money openended….with no parental responsibility

Tom, Stow Ohio   October 31st, 2007 11:38 am ET

Could Dennis Kucinich possibly be more of a buffoon? Talk about the mistake on the lake. I don't understand the mind of the people that continue to vote him into office.

RA Las Vegas, NV   October 31st, 2007 11:20 am ET

The older I become the dunber they look.

Dave, Alpharetta GA   October 31st, 2007 11:08 am ET

He's Coo-Coo for Cocoa Puffs too!

Carlos F. Cuyugan, Lake Forest, CA   October 31st, 2007 10:47 am ET

And this dennis kucinich is the same person who doubts the mental health of President George Bush?

No wonder the US congress has lower approval approval rating than Mr. Bush.

John, Covington KY   October 31st, 2007 10:24 am ET

we have a psycho case in the white house who says God talks to him. And you are worried about a person seing a UFO? Which is more believable anyway..but who cares

Michael New York City   October 31st, 2007 10:05 am ET

Wow..just…Wow! I;m a democrat, and I can't believe that this man has said this and still feels like he is qualified for the position of POTUS. What a disgrace to our country.

Steve, Sumter SC   October 31st, 2007 10:03 am ET

This is Presidential material? He claims Presidental Bush has mental problems and HE sees UFOs? Wow!

Andy, Cincinnati OH   October 31st, 2007 9:30 am ET

so what if he saw a UFO? Is that considered bad ??
So what if he said he felt connection in his heart when that happened?
Nobody is talking about Bush saying that God told him to attack Iraq, and so he did.
Questions like these are just ridiculous. Why ask questions that do not have anything to do with anybody running for president? Since when seing a UFO became a disqualifier for being a president???
Mass media should stop asking or reporting questions like that. Aren't there more important issues to discuss?

Terry, El Paso, TX   October 31st, 2007 9:21 am ET

People who see UFOs are often thought of as a little batty. We associate these stories with stories of abductions by aliens from another planet, religious cults waiting for the UFO to take them to the afterlife, and so on. My parents, very sensible people, saw something they could not identify in the sky. My uncle, a farmer as plain as the dirt he plowed, saw a UFO, told a story about seeing a UFO. It was the only such story he ever told, and never again in his 80 years did he say anything else like it. Jimmy Carter saw a UFO.

There are lots of lights in the sky now, and I personally think that my parents, uncle, and president saw something in the sky they could not identify. I do not think that any of them saw a vehicle from another planet piloted by non-humans.

We think that anyone who sees or thinks he sees a UFO is a dingbat, but some of them are just regular folks. Some of them are dingbats though, and others of them are con-artists.

I know other people who hear voices that I cannot hear, and they speak long loud speeches to someone that I cannot see. These people are the Christians and Jews that I know. Most of them are good people. Some are dingbats, but a few are clearly con-artists.

We should not ridicule either group, but neither group should impose their peculiar beliefs on me.

Dan Miyoshi,Las Vegas,Nv   October 31st, 2007 9:20 am ET

Poor Dennis. Just a few stories above he is questioning some elses mental health, and now he is is talking UFO's. Pot calling the kettle black time again.

freetobeme, Rochester, PA   October 31st, 2007 9:19 am ET

Did Kucinich affirm that he had seen a UFO before or after questioning George Bush's sanity?

Of course he saw a UFO at Shirley MacLaine's home. All kinds of weird stuff goes on there. And if you don't believe it, just ask her!

Obama's reply regarding life in space was very measured and sensible, and he deftly brought the discussion back to reality. The first qualification for a Presidential candidate just might be proving that he or she is not a kook.

Michael Brown   October 31st, 2007 9:09 am ET

The inclusion of this story is typical of the blatant irresponsibility of the media. Last night Kucinich discussed serious issues about the war, health insurance, the environment, impeachment, and the embarrasing status of our media. Yet you choose to include this? His response to a completely idiodic question? This is a non-issue. If this is the only side we ever see of him, no wonder he is low in the polls. Shame on you for this completely ridiculous story.

Cosmo NYC   October 31st, 2007 9:00 am ET

LOL, that explains a lot about this man.

Dee Saint Paul, MN   October 31st, 2007 8:48 am ET

Do we really believe that we are the only living beings in the whole big universe I think not! Many of us have seen these things and are not afriad to say so. CNN and Media!! dont make him out to be crazy just because your minds are closed.

demwit   October 31st, 2007 8:48 am ET

The liberal kool-aid is that strong a Shirley's house..

Dan (Columbia, MD)   October 31st, 2007 7:39 am ET

No… what he saw were his chances of ever becoming President out of reach and flying away.

What a knob.

Al, Marietta GA   October 31st, 2007 6:29 am ET

And this from a man who questioned Bush's mental health?

MIKE ADKINS,CHARLOTTE,NC   October 31st, 2007 6:21 am ET

so what if dennis kucinich saw a UFO? he probably thought relatives were dropping in or ann coulter was warming up her broom for holloween. it's got to be the mushrooms!

Harry Plummer, Doha, Qatar   October 31st, 2007 5:15 am ET

Judging by his ears I would say he is a clone of Dr. Spock!

David Sarasota Fl   October 31st, 2007 4:20 am ET

You are the one thats needs mental care. You are a discrace to this country.

Rich W   October 31st, 2007 1:59 am ET

Rick, Kansas City, MO   October 31st, 2007 1:58 am ET

Tighten up the tin foil hat, here comes the crazy parade.

Ouch. I think he's out.

DK   October 31st, 2007 12:42 am ET

The (space) Aliens could all move to New York and get a drivers liscense.

brandi , ny   October 31st, 2007 12:17 am ET

HA HA HA ! HE looks like the alien from My favorite Martian in that picture. Nice ears !

Blayze Kohime, Columbus Ohio   October 31st, 2007 12:15 am ET

If the aliens get a ear full of Bush's rhetoric they might decide there is no intelligent life here and leave. :)

brandi , ny   October 31st, 2007 12:14 am ET

if an alien did come here, it would take one look at Dennis Kucinich and see those beady eyes and nasty liberal mouth and his tall daughter — oops wife, and they'd be go back to their planet in a heartbeat

karen nj   October 31st, 2007 12:10 am ET

LOL ! Shirley MacLaine and him are both nutjobs !
