Before being critical of the dems when it comes to pork remember what the republicans have done for the prior 6 years. They broke the bank when it came to doling out the pork. My senator from Missouri (Bond) is one of the worst. Fortunatly the other one McCaskill has sworn not to do it (she is a democrat). Point is they all do it and we all let them get away with it.

This country is going to hell financially. What everyone needs to realize is that the Chinese are financing most of this pork.

What's wrong with museums? They have tons of them in this country. And I guarantee you not a single one of them will appeal to every American. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be funded. Just because one person doesn't like a particular one doesn't mean everyone won't. They need to be a little more open minded.

For example, I live in an area where there are a lot of logging companies. I don't particularly like logging, and I specifically do not approve of some of the logging companies practices, such as clear cutting or cutting down Redwood trees. But I fully support having logging museums here because it is a large part of this community.

If you have no pork – than elect a better representative or Senator.

The article states Bishop has the largest Mule Days celebration in the U.S. – & they do have around 30,000 people attend - but Benson, NC has between 60,000 – 70,000 people attending their Mule Days celebrations!

Museums add to our culture. I'd rather support that than imperialistic wars for oil and corporate profit.
Call me crazy.

Mr. Murtha has the #1 highest rating (as in nobody ahead of hime) as being the most 'ear marking pork barreler' of all time. Way to go Dems. Looking forward to defeating you in '08.

sorry, but the nation's security comes first; fund the military and senior health care and infrastructure and leave the arts to private donations

Look at Hillarys add to the SCHIP (State Childrens Health Plan) – adding a million for a Woodstock museum...and this is during an election cycle...when she is supposed to be on her best behavior....the left is wrong for the country....as is the right....we need a moderate....Giuliani

Mules have not gone extinct and neither has drug addition, sexual promiscuity and rock'n'roll. So please CNN, stop trying to justify Hillary's liberal support for a Woodstock museum. Some things are better left unglorified..

Mike, Cleveland, OH   October 31st, 2007 11:07 am ET

For those who don't know, the mule museum was a republican-backed pork spending project (Rep. Buck McKeon, R-California). So all those who rightfully critisied Hillary and Chuck Schumer for the Woodstock museum should also rightfully be critical of this project as well.

What concerns me is that the very notion of funding museums is smirked at and looked down upon.

I'm not saying a mule museum is necessarily something I'd be thrilled to fund, but if it's part of a community's heritage in our country, then it deserves preservation.

Many Americans have already forgotten what it is to be an American– the last thing we should do is make the situation worse by not properly funding museums.
