I'm ashamed of everyone on here who in their own words would "never support a nominee of Bush." How close minded can you get? It's called a democracy we elect a president (twice) and he gets to do things like pick an AG. It's up to the senate to confirm that AG, the two democratic senators who voted for him obviously have more information than you do about his qualifications and probably are in a better position to make a judgement call about him. I generally always applaud senators who cross party lines to do the right thing instead of pander to their far left/right base.

Good luck with that from Mass. I don't think you have much chance of that one. Chuck's safe and secure even if YOU don't know the reasoning behind his decision. This person has made him secure in his decision,Chuck doesn't sell out.

it's high time for people to start a new party as a real alternative to the status quo. surely there must be competent individuals who can run against schumer and feinstein and kick them out of the senate come next election. remember, people, how schumer and feinstein voted on this issue, and spread the word, to make sure that they'll be gone asap.

I am very disappointed that Senator's Feinstein and Schumer have decided that Judge Mukasey is acceptable.

If he cannot determine now that waterboarding is torture, how will he be able to decide the tough issues facing the DOJ if he is confirmed?

There is not much time left in this administration, but there is still plenty of time for them to further damage the constitution, the country and the world.

This man should be sent back to retirement.

I am disgusted with Feinstein and Schumer - after all the criticism they correctly lobbed at Gonzales, they are now prepared to vote for yet another torture apologist.

Feinstein lost half of my support when she said that Hillary's gender should be a reason for people to support her - a lazy, facile statement that is sexist because it suggests that Hillary's gender, and not her policies (whatever these are), are the salient issue. Sexist, IMO.

And now, with this Mukasey support, Feinstein is officially off my list of likeable senators.

Dianne Feinstein has screwed her California constituents AGAIN!!! Please Gov. Schwarzenegger, run against her. Return to your SoCal home and take her on. You'd kick her butt and she could retire with all the blood money her husband made selling arms to the US military.

What is happening to The United States of America? When did we become so afraid of anything that we are willing to torture people for information that has been proven unreliable when obtained in such a way.

Where is our heart?

Reject the fear tactics that we've been fed since 9/11. We are less safe now than we were on 9/12 because of this.

Is there a voice of sanity anywhere in our government?

The man won't take a stand on the moral question of "water-boarding is torture"? how can it be more clear? The Bushies are hoodwinking the US Senate again and they have learned nothing in the last 7 years, Feinstein and Schumer and others just roll over for these criminals to continue dissolving the constitution and trampling what was once our good name. I think we have foxes watching the hen house. Politician means you are to persuade your colleagues to accept your constituents point of view, this is what we 70% of the American public think you are to do for your pay, what is the hold up?

The Democrats are spineless, soulless bags of wind and do not deserve control of the Congress or the White House. THIS is an example of "leadership"? I'm so tired of the same old dialogue (read: excuses) from Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy and their ilk. They are as delusional as Bush and Cheney combined if they think this shameful - (more like SHAMful) - behavior and selling out over the FISA bill justifies earning the support and respect to run this country. No thank you, I'll pass (or not vote)! This is the last straw among many - since the Dems took control of Congress - for this life-long Democrat. Your hopeless game of rollover has gone too far! So long party of no principles or moral center. Call me when you grow a pair and can PROVE TO ME WHAT YOU REALLY STAND FOR! If you can't stand up to this administration, how the hell are you going to stand up to any other conflict from outside of your own party or government?
Sad ...

Immediately the far left folks attack their own for allowing something in Washington to get done. Democrats are in a real pickle trying to cater to their fanatical Anti-Bush base while not appearing obstructionist to moderate swing voters.

All they want is for him to say that water-boarding is torture. Is that too much to ask? Oh. I forgot "We do not torture." Sorry, but yes we do. I want to hear no more about Hillary's "double talk" until someone, anyone, calls this administration to task for their continual lying, as if they think we are all dumb as mud and only the almighty DECIDER can take care of us. They scare me to death, and if this man cannot be trusted to call a spade a spade, why will he be any better than Gonzalez?

Mukasey was reluctantly nominated by Bush as a compromise candidate for DoJ. Someone who would be cautious, moderate, understand the interworkings of DoJ and bring healing to an organization torn up by the politics and incompetence of Alberto Gonzalez. Makes sense to me. However, the Dems have now played the politics card and are aiming to defeat his nomination to satisfy the ever-increasing appetite of its extreme left-wing base. If that happens, Bush should recess appoint a staunch conservative like Ted Olsen in retaliation. The atmosphere in Washington is increasing poisonous and only getting worse as we approach 2008.
