I'm ashamed of everyone on here who in their own words would "never support a nominee of Bush." How close minded can you get? It's called a democracy we elect a president (twice) and he gets to do things like pick an AG. It's up to the senate to confirm that AG, the two democratic senators who voted for him obviously have more information than you do about his qualifications and probably are in a better position to make a judgement call about him. I generally always applaud senators who cross party lines to do the right thing instead of pander to their far left/right base.

it's high time for people to start a new party as a real alternative to the status quo. surely there must be competent individuals who can run against schumer and feinstein and kick them out of the senate come next election. remember, people, how schumer and feinstein voted on this issue, and spread the word, to make sure that they'll be gone asap.

I am very disappointed that Senator's Feinstein and Schumer have decided that Judge Mukasey is acceptable.

If he cannot determine now that waterboarding is torture, how will he be able to decide the tough issues facing the DOJ if he is confirmed?

There is not much time left in this administration, but there is still plenty of time for them to further damage the constitution, the country and the world.

This man should be sent back to retirement.

I am disgusted with Feinstein and Schumer – after all the criticism they correctly lobbed at Gonzales, they are now prepared to vote for yet another torture apologist.

Feinstein lost half of my support when she said that Hillary's gender should be a reason for people to support her – a lazy, facile statement that is sexist because it suggests that Hillary's gender, and not her policies (whatever these are), are the salient issue. Sexist, IMO.

And now, with this Mukasey support, Feinstein is officially off my list of likeable senators.

Mukasey was reluctantly nominated by Bush as a compromise candidate for DoJ. Someone who would be cautious, moderate, understand the interworkings of DoJ and bring healing to an organization torn up by the politics and incompetence of Alberto Gonzalez. Makes sense to me. However, the Dems have now played the politics card and are aiming to defeat his nomination to satisfy the ever-increasing appetite of its extreme left-wing base. If that happens, Bush should recess appoint a staunch conservative like Ted Olsen in retaliation. The atmosphere in Washington is increasing poisonous and only getting worse as we approach 2008.
