Bush was on duty when 9/11 happened. Every intelligence report available to Bill Clinton on his last day in office were available to Bush on his first day in office. Bush had EIGHT MONTHS to prevent 9/11 and FAILED. He was so unconcerned about an attack that George Tenet testified he had not been in touch with Bush during the MONTH before 9/11 because Bush was ON VACATION. Then, when 9/11 happened, Bush sat and read "The Pet Goat" while hundreds of Americans died in our cities. It was one of the most disgraceful performances by a "military leader" in history.

Those who viciously wage a war between Hillary and Barack need to use their heads. Half of you will lose. Will you then say "Nevermind. Vote Democrat anyway" or "vote Republican"? Tearing down each other only helps to convince independents that neither is worthy and they are the ones who WILL DETERMINE who our next president is. Start thinking!

You can hate Cheney's politics, much as I dislike the Clintons' politics - but comparing him to Eichman? That is beneath contempt. It's too bad we can't have rational debate anymore.

Anyway, I thought a couple of points made by mean stupid people deserved addressing. "Madrassa" is simply another word for "school." Insofar as it has come to mean a school of Islamic fundamentalism, promoting severe views including hostility toward the west, the term clearly does not apply to any institution where young Barack Obama studied. The actual place in Indonesia at issue teaches students of many religions, and the primary focus is on conventional scholarship rather than religious study. It as a school, but in no way was it an institution for advancing a particular faith, let alone a particular perversion of that faith.

Speaking of which, since when did it become fashionable for Christians to lie and spew so much hatred into the world? Barack Obama was obviously not the one member of our legislature to be sworn in on a Qur'an. There is the lie that it strains plausibility to imagine any adult intent on discussing civics would actually be stupid enough to believe.

Then there is also all this hatred in evidence on this thread. How many of today's Christians are really so insecure and xenophobic that they would favor a "compassionate conservative" whose idea of compassion is to aggressively promote the use of torture abroad and whose idea of conservatism is to make the nation obsessed with terrorist threats (i.e. to help the terrorists accomplish their goal of terrifying Americans) then break new ground in the history of government overspending. However nasty people feel a "tax and spend" approach may be, a "borrow and spend" approach is actually much worse for the economy, and by extension also future tax rates.

As a final note, I wonder how many of these venomous liars were on the Ann Coulter bandwagon back when Bill Clinton did respond to the Al Qaeada threat. People who are not totally clueless about the subject may remember that, on Dick Clarke's advice, Bill Clinton did attack several suspected Al Qaeada targets with surgical strikes. Almost as soon as this activity started, the right wing noise machines rolled out in full force with cries of "wag the dog."

Pundits and pseudojournalists were so obsessed with inflating the importance of a Presidential sex scandal that they were relentless in the call to end American responses to the Al Qaeada threat. It is true Clinton could have shown more courage and carried on with the attacks, but it is also true that dealing responsibly with the threat was denounced by the Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and pretty much all of their kindred on the conservative side of the political misinformation business. If people today are ignorant enough to swallow the "Obama's a closet Muslim" talking point, it seems almost certain at that time they also would have swallowed the "attacking Al Qaeada is just a distraction to take Ken Starr's vital investigation out of the headlines." My question for the peanut gallery is, how many times do these dittoheads have to swallow and regurgitate obvious lies before they begin to recognize the bitter taste of it all?

Petty insults are the stock-in-trade for such right-wing loonies as Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, and all the others. And Ann Colter has made a career out of petty insults.

I don't believe that Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, or Ann Coulter are running for president. They get paid for offering their opinions. They are not politicians, Barack Obama, although not a good one, unfortunately is.

Obama was born to a Muslim father, and a Christian mother. Muslims would consider Obama to be born a muslim. His mother remarried to another muslim, and they moved to Indonesia where Obama had early schooling. In that muslim country parents are required to declare their religion, and the religion of their children. The schools are religiously based. It is very likely that Obama attended a madrassa in his early years. The information about his first schooling has never been publicized, only his later schooling after his mother left his step father.

Katie Couric's Notebook on the CBS news site dated 04-11-07 quotes a childhood friend (unnamed) who said he and Obama prayed together in the mosque, but 'not seriously' and that Obama also prayed with Catholic schoolmates. This is unusual for Indonesia where you go to jail for preaching Christianity to muslims as it is a crime to attempt to convert muslims there. You can get the death penalty. The real truth about young Obama's background is open because the detailes are totally obscure. That tells me he was likely truley raised as a muslim in those years

If anyone actually cares, films show that Barack, like a lot of people, did not put his hand over his heart for the NATIONAL ANTHEM in the circulated picture. Films also show that he sang along with the whole anthem and applauded at the end. He DID NOT REFUSE to say the pledge and stopped wearing his flag pin because he felt there were too many people wearing it who were hypocrits. Wake up!

Wake up! Learn about the candidates. Don't believe in racist smears, but actually look at FACTS. Barack Obama is a Christian who has been attending United Church of Christ in Chicago since the mid 1980's. THERE IS NOT ONE FACT TO SUPPORT ANY CLAIMS THAT ANYTHING HE HAS DONE IN HIS ADULT LIFE INDICATES THAT OBAMA IS A MUSLIM. Look it up! Think for yourself! Think!

We have had more soldiers killed in a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11 than Americans who died in 9/11. Al qaeda was under control in Iraq until Bush made it easier for them. As analysts pointed out, bin Laden released his first message in a year just days before the American election in a move that clearly helped Bush. Obviously, bin Laden felt he could generate more supporters using Bush as president than a newcomer. After all, it was Bush who said that he wasn't all that concerned about bin Laden.

Cheney hasn't always been wrong. After the Gulf War when they actually knew Saddam had WMD, Cheney said "How many additional dead Americans is Saddam worth? Our judgment was, not very many, and I think we got it right". "Once you got to Iraq and took it over, took down Saddam Hussein's government, then what are you going to put in its place? That's a very volatile part of the world, and if you take down the central government of Iraq, you could very easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off". "It's a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq.". If only he was smart enough to listen to himself.
