Hey Steve Mantua from NJ-

Sorry for the late response. There is a grid on MSNBC that I find very helpful when looking at each of the candidates (sorry CNN, you just don't have a similiar resource).

You understanding is incorrect, JB from Boston.

-Paul wants to save Social Security. He's never voted to spend money from it, and I believe he's introduced legislation that would have blocked social security funds from being spent on anything but the promised benefits. By removing troops from around the world and cutting off federal aid to foreign nations, we would have enough money to ensure those who have invested in SS get the benefits. At the same time, Paul would work to allow younger people to opt out of social security and invest their money their own way. If you want to put your faith in social security being there in 20 or 30 years, you can continue to pay for it; if not, and you think you can make sound investments, you can keep your money. Sounds more than fair, doesn't it?

-We don't need the WTO or NAFTA to trade with other nations. International organizations have been gaining greater influence, which can subvert the republican process. The federal government has already passed laws, and presidents have dragged us into needless wars, because of UN resolutions, WTO agreements, etc.

As for the FDA and Department of Energy (and you forgot Education!), where does the Constitution grant the federal government the power to regulate these? Either way, it is not something Paul could do unilaterally. He would need the support of Congress, which would spur a national dialogue over the usefulness of these agencies. Personally, I think the market (or, at worst, state governments) could handle drug production, food safety, energy concerns, education, etc. far better than the federal government could, but I don't expect everyone to go along with that. Neither does Paul.

To: Phil Chicago, Ill

How about you point out some issues to debate rather than make silly comments with no substance. Can you? If so, you will get taken to the woodshed by the Ron Paul supporters in a debate. Come on, gimme some points to debate!

Ok Paul - since you're so eager to defend Ron Paul's isolationist/Libertarian views:

1. Ron Paul wants to legalize drugs. Yeah - meth, cocaine, heroine have ALL done so much to help our society!

2. Ron Paul wants to eliminate Homeland Security, FBI, and the CIA.
Yeah - turn over "national security" to 50 states, Govenors, etc. Exactly HOW will your great state of Louisiana get information on terrorists - plotting in Yemen to carry out blowing up the Superdome? Louisiana Government officials? (Hell they can't handle helping get water to hurricane victims in their backyard much less deal with national or military issues!)

3. Ron Paul wants to withdraw EVERY US soldier deployed abroad (Japan, Germany, England, Korea, Middle East, etc).
Yeah... cause the NEXT attack on US will come from a spanish armada of wooden ships and cannon balls? Ron Paul is warmed-over Pat Buchanan when it comes to being an isolationist!

Go ahead, Paul, explain away how better off our country will be when heroine addicts freely walk the streets (schools), we have NO national or international force to keep an eye on those bent to do US citizens harm. Tell us how better off the world will be when the only remaining Superpower says - go ahead... kill each we don't really care about genocide... develop nuclear weapons - point them at our capital cities... burying our heads in the sand is a GREAT solution!

OK Ron Paul fans- please address the following.

From what I understand he wants-

-to abolish medicare and medicaid
-Leave NAFTO and WTO
-abolish the FDA
-eliminate the Energy department

I have heard several other extreme positions that will scare people away. You can kiss the votes of anyone over 50 goodbye with the first bullet point. You can't be this extreme and expect people to get in line.

Phil from Ill,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpowder_Plot

Let look at it another way,

Nov 5th celebrates the foiling of a conspiracy of 10 or so men to over through the government. Guy Fawkes was the explosives expert who got caught and was executed! I think the people who came up with the fund raising idea are suggesting there is a conspiracy well underway except there are ties embedded inside our government(a coop so to speak), influenced by powerful people outside of government. Hence, conspiracy theorists and all the comments and efforts to paint these people who voice a belief in the “possibility” of a conspiracy as tin-foil hat, UFO seeing, moon bats. Back in the day they said the same thing about Christopher Columbus. His ideas when against the powers to be at the time so they discredited him for stating he thought the world was not flat.

CNN is heavily censoring most comments about Ron Paul - letting very few negative remarks to be posted.

Did Ron Paul threaten to sue you CNN?? Why so scared? You allow a free flow of remarks about other candidates. Wonder why the censoring about RP??

Specifically about Ron Paul - I find it only fitting his campaign is using Nov 5 as a theme to raise money... Guy Fawkes - the criminal who attempted to blow up government buildings.

Why not glorify Tim McVeigh, Mr Paul?

Of course Ron Paul's disciples will howl that Ron Paul didn't create the tribute for this campaign (Guy Fawkes)... but will he keep the money??

Thought so.

John Wrote: "...he's a complete nutjob. he wants to get rid of all public education in the country and return to home schooling."

Poor John, that is absurd and I'm afraid you are misinformed among other things. Name calling displays you level of intelligence. You obviously don't have children because if you did you would understand the education system of this county. Dr. Paul proposes to remove the federal level of the education system (oversight), leaving it the each state to administrate their public school system. Dr. Paul wants to shrink the federal bureaucracy and keep the tasks of government at the state level with the federal government playing its part (like national defense). This is how our county was set up by the founding fathers. Over the years the federal government kept growing and growing and gaining more power. If you like paying out the nose for a huge bureaucracy that wants to take your freedom and liberty in order to “protect you”, don't vote for Ron Paul. If you like the idea of restoring a "government of the people, by the people, for the people", vote for Ron Paul.

RE: John, Detroit, Michigan:

You have no idea what "insane" is. Insane is to continue advocating the publica education system as it is, while it has done nothing but decrease the quality of education since day 1.

Children in the US were better educated without the federally-controlled public education system.

Sanity is wanting to give control back to the states and back to the local communities. Sanity is admitting that the nationwide public school system is a complete and total failure (it clearly is by any measure), and dismantling it.

Insanity is pushing for the status quo, more of the "same old same old" when it is clearly not working.

Sanity is correcting a mistake, NOT continuing it.

Now go find yourself some sanity, John from Detriot. And you better start reaching deep in your pockets if you dont want Ron Paul to win, because the Revolution is putting its money where its mouth is. And we WILL get our pro-freedom candidate ELECTED!

>he wants to get rid of all public education in the country and return to home schooling.

You are sadly misinformed on these matters. He stands up for the rights of parents to home school their children if they wish. He wants to eliminate the Federal Department of Education. Public schools are a local matter; he does not wish to abolish public education, but to free it from the oversight and restrictions of the federal government.

The only reason Ron Paul hasn't been getting the same coverage as the other candidates is because he is truly the only real candidate. The elite own all of the other horses in the race, and is seen as the only threat to Hillary Clinton's ascension to the White House. Don't trust me, look into it for yourself, we may think we have democracy in the United States, but its really a dictatorship run by Bilderburgers and other secret organizations of the elite.

Research this candidate. There's a lot more to being President than simply saying he'd get us out of Iraq.

Ron Paul would shutter the doors of the White House and turn the entire country over to Blackwater. He doesn't believe in government in any sense whatsoever. His entire position on energy, healthcare, war, and everything else is absolutely NOTHING.

There is a difference between Republican ideas of what small, hands off government should be and what Ron Paul stands for. He stands for nothing.

Yes, Ron has raised over $4 million. Hard to laugh him off as "nutjob" lower tier candidate. The sheep that belive CNN or the other big media outlets have their head stuck in the sand. The people decide elections. the media, bankers and corporations try to sway it but it is time to take the country back. They know this and just watch how scared they are of Paul (as Gandhi said, "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they attack you").

Ha ha, all these I wish Bush and Cheney would be assassinated liberal democrats who pretend to support Ron Paul will all be voting for Hillary come November 2008. Ron is not your man, he is not hateful, he is honest, and he will not support your politics of stealing from hard working Americans and giving that money to the entitlement class "great society" libs that are basically paid a check each month from the government for a guaranteed Democrat vote each November. It is easy to see if a person is honest, respectful, fair, and a positive impact on our society. Just ask them if they want to get rid of the death tax, if they say no then they are pure evil, selfish people who represent everything that is wrong with this country.

You are all so right on! I tried to comment about Ron Paul, yesterday, stating that he is the smartest candidate out here and will come up in the polls and CNN took my comment off! That is all I said and they removed my comment in the same way that they removed this story from the front page! CNN is biased and sensationalistic and I feel like I'm in a Marxist country with them and NOT in a free speech democracy. Let's see if this makes it to the column.

I guess I'll repeat what I wrote this morning that you did not publish. Obviously you only left the Paul comment open for about 15 seconds. Been stuck at 5 comments since 4:30 AM this morning (Germany time) V for Vendetta is a good movie but give me a break. The movie you should be writing about (if movies have anything to do with the Political Ticker) is Network because this is more what is happening in America. Look at all straw Polls and all viewer polls. Whose way on top? Ron Paul of course. Just since you published your stupid article the campaign has brought in another 3 million. PRINT THAT spineless CNN!!!

Why won't CNN cover this as the major story it is?

Ron Paul raised more money online in one day than any other candidate EVER! Yet, CNN is running stories about Biden not wanting to be Hillary's running mate and on the political page - Hillary's poll. Why not the REAL money that Ron Paul supporters have put behind their candidate? Why not? Because CNN would rather bury the story in the depths of their website than protect their journalistic integrity.

Ron Paul has way more backing than the polls CNN reports on, but read the fine print - they're only contacting just under 500 pre-picked people.

Ron Paul is not just about a bunch of Internet junkies... Ron Paul has the backing of real supporters. Ron Paul has the support of "We the People." At the end of the day, Ron Paul is the only candidate that is trying to protect what this country was once great for, what established this country, which is the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the words of the Founding Fathers. Our Founding Fathers have answers for nearly all the problems we face today. We just have to open our ears and hear them, which can only be done by reading and respecting the words the put down for our generations to read. If we fail to listen, then we deserve the tyranny and oppression that governments give us. The same type of tyranny that King George offered. The same tyranny that drove my ancestors from an oppressive England in the mid-1600s.

So when Ron Paul speaks, please listen.

Let us - "We the People" take back our CONSTITUTION and our COUNTRY!

I agree it is odd they use the better photos for the candiates they (media) promote. They (media) then use awkward shots for the candidates they are told to shun.

Now I have seen many bad pictures of Clinton, I mean it's kind of hard NOT to have a bad picture of her (she is quite the NON-looker), but the majority of the ones within the media are a nice, air brushed, face lift shot.

I am so sick of the main stream media treating people like Ron Paul as a joke. He is the ONLY candidate that believes in the original intent of the US.

How can an organization like CNN expect to a serious media outlet when it chooses who it promotes and who it mocks?

CNN still has a LONG way to go before it can even polish the shoes of the BBC News reporting standard.

It is simply outrageous that there is no media coverage for Dr. Paul. Absolutely the only candidate that has this countries true values at the core of his message. Bring liberty back to the US ... Vote Ron Paul in 2008.

As a Canadian watching the political scene as it unfolds in the U.S., I have also become "cured of my political apathy" by Dr. Paul ! We could only *wish* to have a leader here with the same PASSION for his country, without the baggage of owing your position to the highest coorporate bidder. I am astonished by the mainstream media and its attempt to marginalize Dr. Paul. People, he is the real deal.. Do your homework and research his background ... CNN- Shame on you for forgetting your duty for UNBIASED reporting !!!!

Here is the only candidate I can stomach. The only candidate not bought and sold by the people who want to sell this Republic down the river. If you really believe in what the Founding Fathers established, you'll take a good look at Ron Paul.

It is absolutely astonishing to me that <b>Ron Paul<b> is still this low in the polls.
You'd think <i>Republicans<i> would want to rally behind a man who <b>"tells it like it is,"<b> a man who doesn't pull punches while still maintaining the upmost respect for his fellow candidates as well as the American people.
I am a split-ticket Independent, and vote on the issues, as everyone should do, and I can't think of another candidate who is better for this country than <b>Ron Paul<b>.
If you're a <i>Republican<i>, an <i>Independent<i>, or even a <i>Democrat<i>, the only clear choice is <b>Ron Paul in 2008<b>.

Please suggest to your TV associates that viewers would like to get Ron Paul's take on the constitutional crisis in Pakistan, since Paul has been a strong advocate of adherance to our own Constitution.

Why is this not on the front page, CNN?? His campaign has raised over $3.8 million, more then 35,000 total donations, in one day. I think it's time that Ron Paul is taken seriously, and given the respect he deserves.
