I think the biggest detractor to a Ron Paul candidacy is that he's running from the platform of the Republican party. Republican Party?!?!? If he were running as a Democrat or even an Independent I could see him polling a LOT higher.

Has anyone stopped to consider for a minute that maybe the reason he polls consistently in single digits is that such polls are comprised of likely and/or registered voters in REPUBLICAN caucuses and primaries?

For a party that voted twice for George W Bush into the office of commander in-chief, I doubt such a Pro-Torture, Pro-War, and Pro-Religion in Government pool of voters would be interested in the truth to power that Ron Paul speaks and his insistence of upholding the constitution and separation of church and state.

But his identification with the Republican party is why I cannot, in good conscience, vote for Ron Paul. Instead I would ask Dr. Paul to please consider a run as an Independent.

It's awesome how Ron Paul says he is "pro" something as opposed to saying he's "anti" its opposite.

It's like Mother Theresa said.... "I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there."

I'm tired of paying taxes for programs I'll never use like social security... and federal income tax is unconstitutional anyway.

In accordance with CNN Comment Policy eh? As in, in accordance with whatever mainstream agenda must be pulled through to prevent freedom in this country? To prevent educating and informing the people? The number one job of MEDIA???? ISNT THAT YOUR DUTY? I KEEP SEEING FAIR COMMENTS ERASED? WHY?!?!?!?!?!?

Congratulations to you folks, who have proclaimed you have changed your voter registration to vote for Ron Paul. Let me point out though, it does not matter what party you are registered under, you can vote for anyone you want. On the 2nd Amendment, Ron Paul is on the money. The fact that there are crazies running around shooting people and creating a negative stigma for gun owners. The 2nd amendment was in fact written to allow people to keep the government in check, and take it down should it be needed. This is a legitimate concern these days, and we need to keep our constitution. Another point I would like to make, while i don't agree with everything Ron Paul says, or all his positions, I do firmly believe, that if they people speak, he will listen, and the majority would rule. This would not, and has not been the case with other leaders. I do not think Paul is as polished as he could be, but the message is clear, and he has proven himself to be beyond reproach. I don't care who you are, you have to respect that. Life is too complicated these days, and while we don't always agree on everything, I would hope, that given the chance, Paul will listen to the people, after all, that is what he is all about... the people, our freedom, and restoring the republic.

Thanks again for staying involved if we agree or not.

Guess what I just did? I'm a lifelong democrat who just switched parties so I can vote for Ron Paul in the primary! (My state has closed primaries.) This guy is huge, and I think people will be surprised when he flat out wins NH.

>But i wonder how many really understand his positions.

I think you'll find more of his supporters know his positions more than other candidates' supporters.

>Ron Paul would cut drastically on domestic spending.

Yes, that's the whole point. But he would cut internalional spending completely.

>He would let the market and private sector deal with health care…which means no change.

You right on his stance for the most part, but your conclusion is wrong; it would be a BIG change. Right now the problem with the health insurance industry IS government policy.

We don't complain about auto insurance, do we? Instead, we see Geico commercials on 24/7 and lots of competition.

This is because we don't get car insurance from our employers and our car insurance doesn't cover tune-ups and oil changes. So why is health insurance different? Because the government makes health insurance tax deductible for employers (but not for individuals) and insurance claim expenses tax deductible for insurers (but not for you).

>I think he would cut a lot of important domestic government programs.

Like what? Important why? I think hard working Americans are getting tired of paying 40%+ (effective tax rate) for income taxes and getting nothing in return. Name one FEDERAL resources that you use on a regular basis?

I can't name one besides national defense, which isn't defending our nation because it's being used to police the world.

In fact, you get a TON more value from your local tax dollars. Police, fire, rescue, local and state roads, education, etc...

I've read these comments and the dumbest ones are from people who say they would not vote for Ron Paul solely based on the fact that he's running as a Republican. Not real smart about what a true Republican stands for, are ya? It's called LESS GOVERNMENT! Now vote on the issues and with your heart -- not on party names that mean nothing. Grow up.

Why are there people who say they will not vote for Ron Paul because he is a Republican? STOP towing the party line! There is no big difference between Republicans and Democrats. They are all after special interest money! Finally an honest man (Ron Paul) with a perfect voting record comes along, and people can't pull their heads out of their butts! If you are sick and tired of the direction our country is going and you want America to get back to the way it is supposed to be, Vote for Paul!

What an amazing feat!

Too bad it is buried deep down in the Politics stories. Not even in the Top Stories list. OH, I see why:

TOP NEWS: Pat Robertson backs Giuliani! He's got it in the bag folks! Big story here!!
TOP NEWS: McCain gets Brownback endorsement!

So Ron Paul pulls in $4M in one day - 24 measly hours - from 35,000 people - and gets this short blog? Not even a link as a Top Story? If Giuliani or Hillary did this we'd be reading front-page-news about it for months.

Nice to see someone making real legitimate progress, and not simply looking as far as their next lame "endorsement".

I like his stance on the war but being basically a libertarian i disagree with him on most everything else.
I wonder if people are more attracted to his rising popularity...almost like it's "cool" to support Ron Paul.

But i wonder how many really understand his positions. Ron Paul would cut drastically on domestic spending. And leave almost every decision to the market. He would let the market and private sector deal with healthcare...which means no change.
I think he would cut a lot of important domestic government programs.

Although i won't vote for him, i respect his positions and respect his character for holding to his beliefs and staying firm on his positions even when it is not the politically correct answer for his party.

I am shifting my support away from the democratic mob and beginning to embrace the idea that Ron Paul deserves my vote. Prior to this, I felt that I'd waste my vote if I did so. I now realize that the worst thing I can do is cast my vote for another arrogant member of the governing class. Dr Paul is the only candidate who speaks in support of the American public.

The internet is a valuable source of information. It allows one to speak without signs being taken down off of fences, or being told to move off of a busy intersection with a written point of view. For those who care about their country and how it's being run are aware of the issues that our country is facing today. They know who's running for president. They listen to the candidates and their point of views. If anyone is listening close enough they'll realize that Ron Paul has America's best interests at heart, and he won't let us down.

What's so shocking about it? There is no such thing as an unbiased media these days, when increased quarterly profits dictate what we're going to see on television or hear on the radio. No corporation is going to put the spotlight on the man who is going put things back into order by killing ridiculous spending; in this case, 'Big Pharm' will take a blow when Paul fixes free trade with drug imports (i.e. Canada and Mexico). Are those not your sponsors CNN? Which "side effects may include.." commercial are you scheduled to air next? It's a real disappointment That objectivity has been replaced with so much opinion.. and that some of the most important stories go unheard, and are suppressed by garbage that isn't even newsworthy. In a poll two weeks ago, 41% of Americans could not name a single republican candidate running. FORTY ONE PERCENT!!! More people are aware of things 'you people' think we should care about, like what kind of trouble Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have gotten themselves into this week. That is repulsive and intolerable. The American people are being 'dumbed down' and misinformed, and this network takes a fair share of the blame. Here's a newsworthy story: The American People are becoming more and more aware that we can no longer allow the corrupt policies and Corporate Machine to run on cruise-control; because absolute powers will ALWAYS corrupt, and we have long since passed that mile-marker.

America is waking up now. We have a year to go and most voters have internet connections. While many corporate sites are filtering-out much of the Ron Paul phenomenon, there is a passionate and unstoppable drive from many 'true Americans' to get the word out that our Constitution is being molested, and we have to remedy the problem before it's out of our hands. Ron Paul is the only candidate willing to acknowledge the truth, while every last one of the others turn a blind eye to it (their only difference are the degrees to which heads are turning from the 'real' issues of today). THAT'S the shocker.

For those that support Ron Paul, I am happy that you are looking forward to VOTING. It is ashame that not all Americans are VOTING. Let me state this again; we as American need to be voting even if it means that a bunch of people write in someone for city council. It starts there.

As to those that think Ron Paul is a statesman, I must respectfully disagree. To remove the U.S. from many treaties and trade in the world is asking for trouble. He appears to be an isolationist to me. I can't agree with a man who believes government is totally evil. That is how it appears. The money he raised is for the fact that he is an underdog and not just for his views.

It's a shame that this was not the top story on the politics page yesterday and is relegated to only the Political Ticker. Meanwhile the top story on the politics page was "Obama supporters rally to get Colbert off the ballot" I like Colbert, but come on. Biggest single-day contriutions in one day and you're talking about a comedian running a fake election??!? WTF?

The 'lame stream' media becomes more antiquated every week. The world is changing faster all the time and the narrow minded corporate fascist elite media simply is not agile enough to deal with a motivated, educated and technologically literate voting constituency.

It's funny how we (me included) love to get upset at the ridiculous spin the media puts on Ron Paul. I make a sport out of sniffing it out and discrediting it...I look forward to the day when we all realize that their voices have become totally irrelevant.

Interesting that CNN would delete my post from 8:19 or so EST. All it did was refer to the marginalization of Mr. Paul while clearly indicating that I wasn't a supporter. I simply referred to the fact that the people, not the mainstream media, should decide what was relevant. Oh, and that Mr. Paul's notable fundraising was perhaps more significant than Obama's camp blocking Colbert's candidacy in S. Car.

Mea culpa. And, to paraphrase Mr. T., "I pity the fool that didn't expect me to copy my prior posts." Because the one I sent earlier today did not contain anything objectionable in the way of language or usage.

Oh, and by the way and, again, I'm not a member of Ron Paul's cadre, but seriously CNN, you could not find a more neutral picture in your archives? Freedom of speech and fairness of the press demands not that you put the best face forward, only that you not put the worst face forward and that you try to navigate in such a way that you stay towards the middle. Wow. I'd like to take the clever individual who thought that pic was a good idea to lunch. I don't expect I'll receive an acceptance. Hubris reduces wisdom and cowardice confirms it never existed. Whoever chose this picture of Ron Paul is a coward or, worse, is not objective because he or she has a stake in the next election.

Ron Paul's ideas are refreshing and logical. If you have not taken a serious look at his politics visit his website or catch some of his videos on youtube.com. He knows what real freedom means, unlike the "powers" that are trying to block or suppress the legitimacy of his message. CNN we want more Ron Paul!

Did you hear it? The sound of every Neo-Conservative jaw hitting the floor at the same time?

It's about time. The mainstream media still downplays the numbers of Americans who want liberty and true justice, but it's going to come back and bite them in their collective butts.

America needs Ron Paul big time. Anybody else will just result in more of our children getting killed for another undeclared and illegal war.

I am a supporter of Barak Obama - but
I must say I am impressed.

I am also a registered Republican and I will be voting for Ron Paul in the NY primary just to stick it to the old guard of the very old fashioned Rep. party.

I truly respect your doctor!

Ron Paul is the only Republican I'd even consider voting for. The man has a great vision for America, but will it result in votes. All the people who are dependent on the Federal government (welfare) will probably dislike him.

But he's someone who represents what the Republican party used to stand for, before it became the huge mess it is today.

If Obama isn't the Democrat running I'll be voting for Ron Paul, even if I have to write in his name, 1) because I think Ron Paul would be a great candidate and 2) I will never ever vote for Hillary. I don't care if I have to suffer through another Republican there's no way any of them would be worse than Hillary, well anyone but Gulliani who's just as bad.

Ron Paul should have been on the front page of CNN for this. Once again hiding him in the riff raff? The public wants to hear about Ron Paul, we want to see stories on Ron Paul. CNN just can't figure out what the people want. Ron Paul for President 2008!

If they are trying to reform their party with this guy too bad….I don't want a white house controlled by republicans.. Doesn't matter who they are!

They think they can fool us by picking on the nice guy for us to think that their party is still alive…looks like this guy is cashing in too with a book.I don't see any honesty in that…I just hate republicans no matter how good they might!

I have been thinking the same...Take for example your sister get killed by a husband of a certain family....They have another son that is good and gets along with people..Would you go ahead and feel good about the other son and associate with him and think you can eat from the same table.....I wouldn't and I think I would feel that the memory of My sister would hurt further relationship with such a family....I wouldn't use the other son to bring them into any kind of friendship.....This is the same here. No matter how good Ron paul might be....I wouldn't think to have him as my president would be a good idea for me and not any republican!
I am hurt and I am sure American people are hurting...Time to move on without these Idiots(republicans)...
If you feel he is still a good choice, good luck with that....

Nice of CNN to bury this story halfway down the politics blogs website, and not mention it anywhere on the cnn.com homepage.. instead you have a huge image of hillary talking about her horrible debate performance. I see where CNN's loyalties lie.

At least MSNBC ran this story on the front page of their website!

I've never given to a political campaign before, until Ron Paul. Finally there is someone who speaks for me. That is Ron Paul! Changes will be painful and this just shows CNN, a big corporation is afraid of change even if the change will make us all more proud as Americans. But thanks for publishing my first comment!

The campaing is built and is growing in leaps and bounds. An enigma truly, not seen since Ronald Reagan??

"I guarantee you the number is false. "Reported" versus "Actual". Ron Paul's campaign will do/say anything to try to drum up notice.

The guy is a kook who thinks the pentagon was blown up on 9/11 by a government missile because there was no wreckage from an airliner found.

I am voting for Ron Paul, because there were no airplane parts, and we don't build the kind of building that can be knocked down with a silly lil airplane, let alone 2 of'em.
